Yeah, he really did that. Folks, I’m not sharing this to be snarky about Ron DeSantis per se’, this isn’t actually his messaging. It’s worth looking at this through the prism of who is operating the management, branding and communication effort. This level of ridiculous religious pandering is stunningly identical to Ted Cruz in the early 2016 GOP nomination.
The DeSantis campaign knows they need to target evangelical and faith-based voters. Put a group of people who are not actually centered on the principles of faith in charge of a political campaign, tell them they need to appeal to faith-based voters, and this is exactly what you get.
The DeSantis campaign organizes what should be an interview with friendly allies in the Christian Broadcasting Network. [Full Interview Here] CBN’s David Brody then interviews Ron DeSantis asking him what historic figures he would associate himself with. DeSantis’s answer is so far beyond pandering cringe, it makes you seriously wonder who constructed this messaging for him [likely, Jeff Roe]. WATCH:

Grandma’s rules apply to me providing any further commentary on the issue, but wow – just wow.
That campaign must be under so much external pressure from the GOPe donors, it’s unreal to watch.
Everyone running against Trump is doing so for one reason: to ensure that the theft of the 2020 election (treason) is never corrected and never punished.
There is no depth to his character. I am shocked.
Aren’t all Christians disciples of Christ? What’s the problem here?
What is a Christian?
Some disciples of Jesus turned their backs on him and Judas betrayed him. Jesus said to his disciples that there were some of them who did not believe what he was teaching them and then we read “after this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.” (John 6:66)
Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21) Doing the will of the Father involved keeping the two great commandments: a wholehearted devotion to God and a compassionate concern for your neighbour and also enemies.
Paul wrote, “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)
The word “Christian/s” is only used three times in the New Testament. Those who first believed, loved and followed Jesus were after his resurrection called believers. This word occurs 15 times in the New Testament. It was only when these were recognized in Antioch in Syria (now Turkey) as devoted to the Messiah (in Greek Christ) that they were first called Christians (Acts 11:26).
A real Christian is someone who believes who Jesus said he was, that he died and was raised from the dead, and that through him sins are forgiven and a person can be reconciled to God. Without believing this, baptism and church membership means nothing.
This is an MSNBC/CNN/AOC level take.
A man of faith talks about how awesome it would have been to witness his religious history unfolding first hand, perhaps wondering how he would have reacted.
Knock off the Meth Sundance
So if DeSantis considers himself a political populist nationalist disciple, whose teachings does he study?
I will apologize–I saw the headline and thought what next..
I listened to like 20 seconds(?) enough to almost end up puking.
What will DeSantis do next???
