According to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a deal “in principle” has been reached between himself and Joe Biden. McCarthy held a brief press conference to announced the deal; however, no details are forthcoming. WATCH:
WASHINGTON DC – … [B]oth Biden and Speaker Kevin McCarthy still have to sell their respective parties on the agreement, navigating fraught votes in both chambers. McCarthy immediately hosted a call with members after the deal was announced, calling it a “big win” and claiming Democrats didn’t get “one thing” that they wanted out of the negotiations on a member-wide conference call, according to three people on the call.
While conservative Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.) vocally criticized the agreement — saying he was “extremely disappointed” that the deal didn’t include “any meaningful cuts” — other Freedom Caucus members praised the deal, including Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Warren Davidson (R-Ohio). Though both said they wanted to see the text, Jordan praised McCarthy for a deal where the government is “spending less” than it did before and getting Democrats to move on work requirements.
“Seems like a pretty darn good deal to me,” Jordan said, according to one of the people on the call.
And the speaker forcefully defended the agreement after Good’s criticism, saying it could pass the Senate and that he never claimed the legislation the House passed last month would be the “end all bill.”
McCarthy concluded the call around 10:30 p.m., telling his conference that he needed to speak to the White House again and make sure the text reflected their agreement on principle. “Let’s stick together,” he said while concluding the call. Biden and McCarthy will talk again Sunday, the speaker had told reporters earlier.
In addition to lifting the $31.4 trillion borrowing cap through the 2024 presidential election, the deal in principle would keep non-defense spending roughly flat for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1, according to a person familiar with the negotiations, falling far short of the $130 billion in cuts at fiscal 2022 levels that Republicans had originally demanded.
Non-defense spending would increase by 1 percent in 2025, followed by years of non-enforceable funding targets, according to the person familiar. Republicans had initially pushed for a decade of strict funding limits. Defense spending would be set at the level proposed in Biden’s budget for the coming fiscal year, representing a modest 3.5 percent increase over current funding levels — less than what many Republican defense hawks would’ve liked to see for the Pentagon in order to keep pace with inflation. the usual kabuki theatre
Regrettable the reps, especially the conservative caucus, exited D C and left McCarthy alone “to cut a deal”. Hope they have him on a short leash.
With who ? Who’s making the deal ?
Proposed 4 TRIILLION DEBT CEILING HIKE in exchange for 400 million
in cuts.

What is up with MTG?
Did you really fall for her rhetoric?
quid pro quo so she can be on her preferred committees?
I worked in workforce development. We put lots of welfare people to work but how does that pittance help? Are we still funding illegals and paying for their hotels, phones, everything? Are we still sending billions to Ukraine? It’s worthless and so are our representatives. What a worthless bunch of liars. May God smite them all.
If only Russia would drop a bomb on what is known as the House of Representatives while they are in session. One way to “clean house.”
Exactly!! How could the dementia patient even negotiate? I don’t get this – who was talking for him?
Yes, nothing changes, why should it? They’re both pushing the WEF agenda.
Secure the border before we start negotiating an actual budget..…….however they raised our credit card limit and upped the minimal payment.
It’s funny how we always hear the news reports of, “The majority of American people want immigration”. No. No we don’t. Not anymore. They’ve gone and eft that up. Shut it down. Shut it all down for 10 years. And round up and deport. That’s what we REALLY want.
AGREE
Yes. You are correct.
The only priority is to spend, and to print, and drive inflation..
As if biden is actually capable of negotiating anything.

I’m aware of only one negotiator.…..how about you?
I trust my meth head cousin’s financial acumen more than that of these leaders. I would stand a better chance of seeing a positive R.O.I if I took all the money Uncle Scam takes from me every year and told him to “invest” it into something..
Judging from the last 40 years of budget negotiations with the sky is falling depredations from the D.C. elite – I will take it that McCarthy did exactly what the deep state req.’d.
It’s like a bad movie that we’ve be forced to watch over and over again …
Yes, I recall that film … Uniparty Groundhog Day.
This year’s sequel looks to be another summer hit.
Good one!
Jeff Foxworthy
Can’t say I was paying attention, knew it was all bullshit .
Actually, I’m afraid we are already under Global Governance control. We just like to think we are able to fight going there.
WHO pretty much dictated our Covid response. Our own medical community just went along and pretty much implemented their recommendations.
Global immigration is being pushed in the EU and, of course, here as well. Our boarders hardly exist as illegals pour in our country.
We are engaged in a war that most of us don’t want to be in so why are we there? The Global powers are trying to manipulate the world structure and financials. So there we are.
Our society is crumbling, financially and morally. The Globalist do not want a strong citizen driven U.S. so they are doing a pretty damn good job destroying it.
Our voting system is corrupt so we citizens have little say in our governance.
There are so many other examples, but I will stop.
It’s just that we citizens have a voice to complain, but few in government care what we say and they are quickly moving to not allow us to complain.
So, I think we are already under Globalist control. They are just expanding and fine tuning that control.
Ugh
It is even in red states.
Look at the current effort to unseat Texas AG Ken Paxton.
The “lawfare” model of impeachment, rolled out for President Trump, is being used against effective, conservative office holders.
It was used to unseat a Christian Sheriff who cared about the county he had jurisdiction of.
Now the current Sheriff is “appointed” and not elected by We the People.
Make no mistake. Evil times are upon the Earth.

Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
but against principalities, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
The US government took in $5 trillion in 2022 and can’t find a way to cut $130 billion (2.6%)? For starters, how about not funding a proxy war with Russia? Remember, these are the same people who wouldn’t give PDJT $18 billion for a border wall (a primary plank of his election win), because ‘we’ couldn’t afford it.
A nice conversation to have with the youngsters – if your income stream needed to be cut by 2.6%, could you do it?
Very disgusted with the “deal making” that goes on in DC. McCarthy could have stood his ground and not given one penny and the US would be in a better place. Big mistake to not pick a speaker with backbone and good sense.
McCarthy is just like the rest of them, but I appreciate your “hope springs eternal” outlook.
Such a person doesn’t exist, Jann. They are all cut from the same cloth.
In January house republicans voted to cut nearly all of the $80 billion in IRS funding. Yesterday McCarty decided to leave IRS with $70 billion.
The line between dems and repubs is starting to blur.
Ugggggh! There IS no line.
There is only a uniparty made up of half who use money to gain power, and half who use power to gain more money.
Starting to?
There is no intention by anyone to pay back any debt. None. This will play out and the ending isn’t good. Just a matter of time.
Well, we have that weapon too. Nothing like some mass civil disobedience in the financial sector to move things along the path to revolution. It’s past time anyway. Our founders would’ve dumped tea and geared up long ago.
So did McCarthy go to Delaware or did Joey stay behind in his lair? Otherwise McCarthy was making deals with Joey’s puppet masters
How McCarthy gets around holding the line:
Send everyone home. With the rascally, annoying caucuses absent, he can negotiate with (somewhat) abandon and thereby move a (bad) deal forward. Have his cheer leaders extol, and give the appearance anyone opposing is unjustly undermining.
I remember Rush always saying they need to go to zero base line budgeting (or similar words).
These so called “spending cuts” are merely reductions in planned increases. The total spending is still more than the previous year’s spending, just not as much of an increase as planned.
It is all a giant fraud!
A pox on ALL of them!
How does this ”deal” of adding 4 Trillion of additional debt preserve our country for the next generation.
Promises made, Promises broken.
Kev and the whole lot of the GOP has to go.
We have no representation in Mordor-on-the-Potomac.
None.
This deal must be viewed in a wider, geopolitical context. Russian sanctions over Ukraine have resulted in a significant effort to de-dollarize the global economy. The process will take a long time and will result in re-monetization of gold (over time). This unfolding process is already resulting in less global demand for dollars as countries are reducing dollar reserves and beginning to trade in local currencies.
While de-dollarization unfolds, the US cannot keep printing new money into existence without increasing the risk of increasing inflation, potentially to the point of hyperinflation. So, instead, the FED is increasing interest rates to make it more attractive to hold dollars (or US treasuries) as a means of slowing the transition. They cannot do this if deficits continually increase.
At the same, one must take note of the damage done to the US economy by Janet Yellen’s zirp policy. For a decade, this policy financed nonsense and wasted the country’s capital creating businesses that cannot stay afloat without access to zero interest money.
And, even more critically, all the zero interest money ultimately led to a tidal wave directed at the US through Europeans having an intent to destroy the US. Cheap dollars borrowed from the FED, deposited into banks and the shadow banking system, were leveraged in the poorly regulated (outside FED control) European financial system and used to buy access to politicians, fund Soros candidates, fund NGO’s spreading hate and division, and ultimately causing chaos in the US, all with the intent of subverting the US, destroying it, and ultimately collapsing us in a Great Reset to global control (ie, European control). THIS is why half the country now hates the other half.
In this context, the budget deal says, “we’ve made a decision to not destroy ourselves and if anyone will control the world it will be us and not WEF/Davos.”
This fight is far from over, but a budget deal that suggests we will not be spending ourselves to destruction is a good deal. Doesnt mean the people doing it are good guys. They’re not. There are no good guys.
If we’re lucky, we might get to watch the euro collapse and Europe fade into irrelevancy.
No. Nice Obamaesque disertation there but you dont save yourself by continuing to spend what you dont have and rationalize it by saying ya but others are in worse shape. McCarthy is a clown, this is a joke, it does nothing for you or me or any other working tax paying US citizen.
Oh, don’t worry. Your taxes will be going up to help cover the deficit.
No offense intended, but many of us are still suffering from the delusion that we have a say in how our govt is run. All you have to do is look at elections to see that isnt true.
I personally remain optimistic we can eventually regain control, but doing so first requires seeing the world as it truly is. We currently live in a house of mirrors with actors all around.
I dont claim to have the only take on reality and Im open to adjustment based on new info. But my take has a lot of explanatory power. Yours, otoh, is based on denial of reality, not acceptance of it.
From your own words above, clearly its you who is struggling with reality. You and and Paul Krugman. Adding to a crushing mountain of debt is somehow an optimistic position? Your thinly veiled attempt to hide behind some of Sundance’s key tenets is weak. Hurry now or you will miss Kev and his minion on the Sunday morning circuit bloviating on why this is such a great “deal”. Have a blessed day.
You have a blessed day as well. I do understand your pov and understand it. While we may disagree, we’re both Americans who care deeply about our country. This is, ultimately, more important than our opinions or disagreements.
Looks like your take was the correct one and I misunderstood the deal. Apologies to you. For the sake of the country, I hope there’s about 25 reps who can stand up and block the deal. And i hope that pos McCarthy is removed.
Btw, Jun 15 is when quarterly payments start refilling the Treasury General Account. Janet Yellen is a liar. The US coukd easily stretch payments a few days if it needed to.
Again, apologies.
All external spending and AID should be completely shut down in times like this for 5yrs.
Then all AID to the millions of illegals should be completely shut down but We The People and the U.S.A. Will get what ALL politicians have done to this country for decades.
Waiting for “minority” groups to protest work requirements racisss
I am so jaded by the efforts of the RINOs in our party that I am only able to hear and see that McCarthy has done what Republicans have always done and that is to cave like a tent with no stakes in the ground regardless of any good that has been done.
Freedom Caucus is not happy with McCarthy negotiaons.

everyone get ready to bend over.
Here it comes again!
They squabble over billions while they spend trillions we don’t have!!
This is a Uni-Party dog and pony Kabuki Show at its best.
Since the first “deals” struck during the regimes of Quisling BUSH II in 2000 and Comrade Obama in 2009, there has not been a single “spending ceiling” deal kept or attempt to even be maintained by any Uni-Party Congress nor any administration save President Trump’s. Even during President Trump’s administration Congress over-road and ignored his efforts.
Every “deal” was broken by the spending the spending rate the very same year it was struck. The spending trajectory and US Debt Level is still on an upward climb no matter if the data set used for comparison is truncated to 1 year back or further.
When we desperately need a Patton, Grant, or Sherman, all we get is a never ending parade of McClellans. Sadly, well over half the country hasn’t a clue about those names or their implications and that’s part of why we’ve come to the end of the Republic.
Franco
I figured McCarthy would sell out… that is his whole reason to be. RAT Weasel.
The US government brings in, on the average 348 billion each and every month in taxes. The fiscal year ends 1 Oct. Why the big rush? Janet Yellen just moved the default date from 1 June to 5 June. If she can move it once, she can move it to 1 October.
The big rush is that the spending rate and values outside the Omnibus Budgets has already busted the last debt ceiling deal made last year.
The rate of spending under Sock Puppet JoeBama exceeds even the rate of spending under his puppet master Comrade Obama during his regime 2009-2016.
The forms have to be observed to sustain the illusion of legality.
Great phrase; can’t swing a dead lawyer these days without hitting ‘the illusion of legality‘ We’re surrounded by at, most recently brutalized by it with the Covid operation.
We need someone like Trump to negotiate with these hacks.
And they released this on the weekend of Memorial Day holiday so no one would notice.
There are two groups of naive people:
those who vote for these Republicans and McCathy hoping they will do the right thing
those Republican politicians that oppose this folly but hope by staying in the party they can steer it in the right direction.
Neither are going to happen!
President Biden is taking the US down the Zimbabwe path under the Marxist President, Robert Mugabe and most Republican politicians are helping his endeavor.
And Paxton impeached in Tx.
All hail the GOP!!
I find it amusing the way politicians come out before the cameras with their ties off, shirt tops open, like they have been feverishly sweating bullets, working like dogs, to get where they are in negotiations. I know this is all drama and theatrics for the masses and the final results were done well before the meeting. I am pretty sure we have been sold out….again. No matter how they package it with the pretty wrapping paper, and beautiful bow, the box will still be empty, and the American People will still get the double middle finger like always.
Poor IRS budget cut to $70 billion from $80B
WHAT a WIN GOP
We don’t have the numbers in House or Senate to enforce anything. That’s the bottom line and the sad truth.
We need a solid real conservative majority in the House, a super-majority in the Senate, and ownership of the Presidency before anything meaningful will EVER take place.
Until then, we basically soothe ourselves with our venting about how to fix things.
Give it a rest. They have had that majority before and they don’t do a damn thing differently. What we need is a meteor big enough to take out DC with all of them in it.
Didn’t they have that when Trump won in 2016??
FOR 2Y……..2 years…..
Yep, and we saw how the GOP worked against PDJT at every level.
However, the member does bring up an interesting topic, how it’s gone throughout history where there has been a GOP POTUS and GOP controlled Congress. Did that happen during Reagan? How did it go? Rinse and repeat for other POTUS.
Never from this Republican crowd of politicians!
We have been taken over
and people better soon wake up or else..
This is a perfect example of it.
Hey Mccarthy. Is that hair gel?
That made me laugh. Surprised that I can still do that.
People need to read up on the law. The reprogramming allowances and instructions for the spending of money by the Executive are written by CONGRESS and included in the spending the Bills that are actually LAW by definition.
The Executive Branch can only spend only in accordance with what is AUTHORIZED by CONGRESS in the spending LAWS (BILLS) they pass.
To date the Uni-Party Congress has abrogated their responsibility to the Executive via wide open reprogramming authorization. Congress could shut this crap down fast if the wanted.
In the last 23 years, the only time congress has used it’s power of the purse was to stop President Trump’s efforts to balance the budget. Read the 4 Federal Budget Proposals submitted by President Trump, it included a balanced budget as well as elimination of un-necessary and duplicate departments and spending.
Remove McCarthy and cut the dam spending! Starting with the DOJ, FBI, CIA and DHS!
I can finally sleep at night/ sarc.
Remove all funding for Joe Biden’s Executive Order 14067 before it goes into effect, in July of this year. To include the price of a single piece of toilet paper for the clerk that worked on it. Next, pass a bill to stop its implementation now and in the future.
Scrap all plans for the WHO health care program for the world. And remove the United States from WHO membership.
“Let’s stick . . . it to the American people . . . together,” he said while concluding the call.”
There. I fixed it for you.
Reverse every action carried out by Mr. Biden. And, tell them we want someone who is actually elected!
If you run short of needed items. Tell congress to take us back to 2007 in terms of laws.
More like they agreed on how to screw the country even harder.
BOHICA!
This whole hand wringing exercise every time the debt bumps up against an arbitrary debt ceiling amounts to another nothing burger, and it always will. The place to get spending cuts is in the budget of the Federal Government. As long as Repugs will never abandon the need to print more money to pay for a military that already outspends all of the military spending budgets of all of our supposed allies in Europe, and the Demcommies have never respected the limits on spending for any of their legions of bloated Government Bureaucracies, there will always be an annual ‘negotiation’ that will always result in raising the debt limit to far higher numbers than are expected to be needed in order to get all of the politicians through another election cycle. It is a bad joke that has become nauseating from its repetitious telling. Next subject. We are nowhere near close to having a serious discussion about the supposed limitations on our Treasury Bureaucracies.
