I was diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer in 2016, underwent 15 months of violent chemo, radiation, and surgery. 100% success in all treatments. I will never label myself a “cancer survivor”…there’s something about virtue signaling in that, and I’m sick of ALL of it. All four of my brothers had prostate cancer–if they had started calling themselves prostate cancer survivors, we would have just given them the side-eye with the question, “What’re ya doin’ there, brother???” Good grief.
If we are going to go there, I am also a root canal survivor. I am a failed teeth-implant survivor.
And the same goes for the phrase that someone is battling cancer. No. They are not. Their oncology team is fighting the cancer. My part was to show up for my appointments and tolerate the up-to-six hour infusions, for months. They battled cancer on my behalf and they succeeded.
I’m so sick of sainthood being given to women who continue with their lives after successful treatment of cancer. Frankly, I don’t want the pressure of sainthood. I ain’t no saint, except in the way that the Apostle Paul speaks of the church.
My husband’s life was taken by liver cancer. Should I call him a non-survivor? I don’t think so. If for no other reason, the last day he lived he was still wearing his work boots, his denim jeans, and his flannel shirt…and still cleaning and arranging his tool chests so they would be ready to pass on to our sons.
Being diagnosed with cancer doesn’t make anyone special. And they are no more a victim than they choose to be.

Duplicity is ugly and distasteful. If we are Christian, knowing and allowing ourselves to be transformed with daily discipleship, transparency with people we are committed to growing with is key.

I can’t believe the GOPe really believes that we’re all just going to accept Ron DeSantis as the MAGA candidate with no baggage. We all know damn well that the only “baggage” Trump carries is all made up BS and that he’s the only candidate of the bunch and is not owned by any political party. Trump has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he can and will put country above party and do the right thing by us. You can’t manufacture that or fake that.
