I am from Poland, where many still have an irrational hatred of Russia dating back to WWII or even WWI times, and the desire to right “historical wrongs” from 50 or 100 years ago will only lead to the destruction of the nation. You either let the past go, at some point, or you are doomed to repeat it. This is not to say you can’t honor the dead of the past wars, and mourn them. But remaining fixated on these issues leads only to more of the same. History is just that, the past, and the future can be one of more endless wars, or peace with those you may not like but have to live alongside, regardless.
This is something the peoples of Eastern Europe need to realize, far too many are still stuck in the past and thus the future will look like just more of the same, unless the cycle of endless retribution is broken.
I can say I suffer from this myself, as many memebers of my family were killed in WWII by Ukrainian N a z i s serving in the Waffen SS for their spritual leaders Bandera and Hitler – so I have a very hard time summoning any sympathy for Ukraine today.
