According to Axios, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has given Fox News (Paul Ryan) and Tucker Carlson access to the 41,000 hours of CCTV footage.
Presumably Speaker McCarthy figures this approach will support his previous promise to release and “make public” the full unedited House footage. I’m not sure I would qualify this as fulfilling the pledge. Why is an intermediary needed? Why not just release the footage and let people review it raw and unfiltered?

I’m only speculating, but all the reasons I can see for this non-release/release range from lazy to quid pro quo-type dishonest.
The tamest version I can imagine is that it was just too much stuff to even go through, the same way Congress critters don’t read the big bills they vote on. So KM dumped it onto a network that at least has the editorial staff and equipment needed to review it before the next decade has passed.
Giving the footage to TC/Fox means those guys now have broadcast material of dramatic, narrative and financial value. They certainly won’t release anything close to even 1,000 hours of it unedited. TV time is too costly. Over the next year, Tucker will release and discuss 10-minute edits over many different days. If there even is 41k hours of footage to begin with, these edits need not bear a faithful resemblance to events occurring in real time. The footage will support whatever story they want to make out of it. They can re-size the frame to focus on one person, when the original might have shown five people doing different things. They can compress or expand the timing of digitized material to alter the pacing. They can sweeten and remix the audio, putting off-camera dialog from one area into footage from a different area and time. There will be no way for the audience to know.
Since the material is of substantial narrative value, Kevin McCarthy will in future expect some favors in return, and Tucker/Fox WILL owe him. Perhaps KM will demand more supportive coverage of his legislative agenda, or some kind of editorial veto power over stories. Again, no way we puny viewers will know about it.
The one thing it doesn’t resemble is investigative journalism without a bias. It’s got to be about someone’s agenda, maybe several someones.

This is perhaps old time stuff – but some time ago, it was figured out that one could put drawings up on the ftp site, then you can work on them, make changes – add stuff – I am talking about Auto CAD civil engineering – improvement plans (rough gracing, precise grading, water, sewer, street, meandering sidewalks, retention basins, all kinds of stuff)
so you pull up the drawing and work on it (at your desktop) and then save your work to the ftp site –
what is it that really needs to be done with the J6 footage – I mean, it isn’t “rocket science” is it ?
If they could “give it” to Tucker, then whatever they are “giving” COULD be put on an ftp site – or whatever the current system is called –
is it just to sort it and put it in some kind of sequence, footage from various cameras that is accumulated? Why not just have an index which gives you the camera location and time frame of captured images? People can click on on it with an interactive map that shows the camera locations – also indexed by time where you can look at images gathered during a particular time frame?
It must be the footage has already been saved according to camera location and then in order by date and time – if the Speaker can give it to Tucker, he can just put it on a dedicated website where people can go on there and just look at the recordings, footage – lots of eyeballs!
