Let me qualify this post and question by saying this is something I have wanted to ask and write about for quite a while. I often ask this question to people I meet in general life discussion, and I am very interested to hear every response. Today is a great day to ask this…
Think back… So, you are living your life, doing what you and everyone familiar to you are doing in the ordinary and regular way of living your specific life.
Perhaps you paid some attention to the political comings and goings of things, perhaps not.
Perhaps like most comfortably invisible people you were just putting one foot in front of the other, and generally doing the day-to-day things that most would consider ordinary.
Then one day, for some unknown and likely not that consequential reason, something caught your attention. Something piqued your curiosity; perhaps you noticed something you wouldn’t ordinarily have noticed. Perhaps you heard something, or saw something, or were just in a situational space where something itched your brain as you looked at something, heard something or noticed something that just didn’t quite fit or sit right.
Perhaps that little something, or big something, caused you to look just a little bit closer at the story, event or moment with a little more curiosity than before. Perhaps you dug into that specific moment with a little more than a side-eye glance, and you noticed something. After looking at it a little closer, you realized that construct was not at all what it appeared to be on the surface.
From that moment forward, for the first time, you really started to question the ‘thing’ that was in front of you, and from that moment forward, you woke up to recognize that things around you, things you perhaps didn’t pay attention to before, were not what you thought they were. It was from this moment when you really started to pay attention and your political awakening began.
Question: When was that moment for you?
I am always amazed at the replies I get in real life to this question of when the individual awakening began.
For some it was at an early age, for others much later in life. For some it was recently, and for others it was a long time ago. However, for everyone there was that moment when it started, and it is completely unique to the individual.
So, on this day, Sunday February 19, 2023, a generally innocuous day in the grand scheme of things, I pose this question to everyone.
Yes, even all the CTH lurkers who read here and never join the conversation. The comment section is open for all replies with the general rules of on-line decorum still standing. Us old schoolers still use the early internet standards of on-line discussion, and CTH requests polite and civil conversation that enlightens, expands thinking and uplifts the audience.
I am genuinely curious and will be reading every reply because it’s really cool to see what that “moment” was for each person. I’m pretty sure the entire CTH community will also enjoy reading the unique replies to the question.
We all travel a different path. We all come from different, likely comfortably invisible, life experiences. And we all merge into this big melting pot of curious people who are looking deeply at the issues we face. Regardless of how each of us arrived here, the larger dynamic is that we likely share a common curiosity for the reality of our situation. It’s a safe bet to say that almost everyone reading this is in the top-tier of “high information” consumers.
My question is not what arrived you at The Conservative Treehouse, but rather what the moment was when you began looking around and realizing that things just didn’t seem to add up. That’s the origin of the journey. That’s the moment I am inquiring about.
Perhaps it’s a weird way of looking at CTH, but our fellowship is always what has been the most important aspect to this little corner of the internet. It’s not the content of the Treehouse, but the conversation on the porch that matters. You, the readers, friends, people who assemble here, are the important element. Not me and not the site admins.
That’s genuinely the way I have always looked at our fellowship, and that’s also the reason for every detail I put into keeping this little corner of the internet standing.
So, with that in mind, what was that moment in your life when you realized the social, political and/or media narrative, was not at all what it was presented to be?
Love to all,
~ Sundance

For me, what really brought it home like a sledgehammer to the brain was 9/11/01. I worked across the street from Liberty Plaza and on the other side of that was the WTC. The emotion of that day, being there, certainly contributed to my mental clarity in that surreal moment in time. I watched gold futures shoot up a few minutes before the first plane hit. Before. In the few days after, I read in MSM about put options (bets a stock would go down) had been purchased a few days prior on those PARTICULAR airlines, the PARTICULAR insurance companies on the hook for damages to the property and so forth. The speed at which the media suppressed these market facts was stunning to me, as there clearly were records of who purchased those large volumes of put options and benefited. Still, this info never has been released. I was also amazed at the orderly speed at which Manhattan was locked down. I left the Wall Street area just after the second plane hit. At the speed of my walking uptown, Manhattan was being closed like a wave of police state in my wake. Over the next few days we had a new “crime” term … “persons of interest” and if you objected to any of the insane new censorship or invasion of civil liberties, well then you might just be one of THEM, a terrorist or at least terrorist-sympathizer. News stories vanished off the internet, like the dancing on roofs in Brooklyn, like the stock options, or were re-written to suit a better narrative (like the Marriott attack shortly after 9/11). I knew on 9/11 that everything was changed. That opinion was reinforced when the PATRIOT Act was conveniently pulled off the shelf and enacted into law while the populace was literally terrorized and the Bill of Rights took its first body blow.
Ron Paul woke me up in 2007.
Rather than one thing, I experienced an evolution of seeing what I can never again unsee.
Over 20 years ago, I had a friend encourage me to read the Uncle Eric books by Richard Maybury. Created to be the simple reads that they are, they shed profound insight into the inner workings of current events with a more neutral, full-story, of world history. Maybury also accurately defines the natural path of corruption which government provides to those who enter it.
With the internet becoming a new part of our every day world, the same friend made a habit of visiting Lew Rockwell’s site as part of the daily news search ritual, along with sports websites, etc. A practice which in short time, pushed newspapers into oblivion.
Coincidently, I dated young woman who worked for our local Congressman. Accompanying her to numerous political events, I met those in the political world who represented the two prominent parties, and I noticed something about each one of them… While they fell on different sides politically, their personalities were consistent. We all come across natural born leaders and perhaps some of us even are natural leaders ourselves, but politicians were not. Rather, each politician I met seemed to have characteristics of individuals that we have also no doubt encountered. They are the people who are NOT natural born leaders, but who want to be the leader; attempting to get into the middle of every photo op screaming “look at me”! Demanding the attention of the room, they came off as insecure and insincere. They acted like sales-people who seemed to ask personal questions only so far as to attempt sincerity, not really listening let alone caring, before moving on to the next opportunity to “win” a vote. Worse yet, there actually were many causes and organizations who kicked and screamed for 5 minutes of their time who were similarly brushed aside with only enough response to come off as caring.
Soon after, I went to work for a local municipality. It was quickly evident that a “City” was a microcosm of any level of government. Believing that the City revolved around them, department Directors fueled their egos with meeting after meeting, discussing what shiny new project they wished to pursue and arguing for the funding needed for their endeavors. With so many meetings though, rarely was there actually anything accomplished. Talk, talk, talk… Departments operated in silos, and Directors kissed the rear-end of the City Manager who kissed the booty of the City Council… Hierarchies existed at every level, but an obvious disconnect existed. While the “City” believed that all things city-related revolved around them, few in the community actually cared. Residents have families and jobs and lives; and they don’t waste their time concerned with the self-created demand of over-paid Joe Department Director. Few even know Joe exists. The majority of residents are the true reflection of the “City” who typically care only so much to want their roads paved and parks maintained.
With these experiences, the wool was pulled down. What my eye was now trained to see, I could never again unsee. Politicians are just that, politicians. Motivated by self-preservation within the system, they go through the motions of hand-shaking and baby-kissing to serve their own ambitions. Should they actually help some people along the way, then all the better. Unfortunately, when I hear a politician speak now, I instinctively doubt what I hear and then research truth.
I do believe that a few enter politics with good intentions, but are overcome by the system. It’s unlikely to exist for long within it, without succumbing to the corrupt nature that perpetuates more corruption. To say I’ve become skeptical is an understatement. I’ve imprisoned my mind to a skeptical view of the world, but I sleep better at night for it. I’d rather see what I can’t unsee, than turn a blind-eye to live a life “happy and dumb”.
Sundance, thanks for asking.
I woke up in earnest when the Kenyan was installed. The scales fell from my eyes and I began to see the extent of the corruption within the hollowed halls of our government. I held out hope that it was a fluke but when the Kenyan was installed the second time and all the RhinO Repukes did was whine while wringing their hands and stomping their feet I knew that our new war for liberty and independence had begun. When PDJT won, I felt that we were beginning to win the battle. The graft and corruption running pervasively through out our government signifies that our struggle to regain our liberty and our fundamental rights is still in doubt.
What will it take for us to take back our country from the tyrannical forces that bind us? I don’t know for sure. But, what I do know is that what ever it is will be painful and bloody and that the casualties will mount among those who remain blind to the tyranny that grips us.
He’s not Kenyan, he’s Indonesian!
What will it take ? For starters we must repent, and I’m not hearing that anywhere . Even here, so far. We are like the pampered children of Mafia bosses. For generations we consumers have benefitted naively from our nation’s bully ways of extracting wealth from other parts of the world. The CIA toppled democratic governments so corporations could provide us with cheap bananas, sugar, and oil. We invested in the stock markets to share in their profits Our military enforcers broke international laws with impunity Few voters troubled themselves about it.
The assassination of JFK. I was a teenager, it was the first big event that I paid attention to and the story never made sense. I never trusted what “they” did or said from that time on. Then many years later a friend introduced me to a strange story about a Q!
There were two really memorable inflection points. The first was in 1980 when I realized that Democrats hated America and Reagan republicanism was for me. The California schools had trained me even Bach then to be a liberal but I realized I loved America and so did the republicans of that era. The second was in 2021 after reading CTH for years that I realized that there is no Reagan left in the republican world and now both parties hate America but in different ways. I realized that every thing I see ( COVID – J6 – Green energy- anti 2a) are all aspects of a huge business plan that won’t tolerate any deviation from the sales pitch and you either are on board with the business plan or you are not which means you need to be destroyed. That second revelation is much more significant. During all of this though I know this is the War in Heaven we went through to become humans playing out again but on earth. I will still choose God for my second estate.
Lurking since right about the time Trump came down the escalator in 2015, seems like a cliche but it’s true. Was not a fan of The Apprentice but watched it with the bride and softened because it was for a good cause. Got hooked when he started lobbing bombs the likes I hadn’t heard before and the vitriol that followed reminded me of when I woke up when Perot was running in 91/92, was too young to vote but yearned for something real. We know how that turned out, tried to stay involved since then but ended up disappointed every time until Trump ate up his competition in 2015/2016 like Pac Man. I’m still behind Trump and can not wait to watch the show unfold up to 11/2024. Very concerned that the vote does not reflect the people.
More government lies, I missed in my list:
– Vietnam
– Benghazi and the staged Susan Rice lies to the American people and blaming that silly video
– More color revolutions in Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Syria, etc.; the entire Arab Spring caused by Obama
– ISIS, caused by Obama… Trump shut them down is a few weeks
– Iran nuclear “deal” and pallets of money sent to those Islamic criminals by Obama
– James Comey July speech on Hillary Clinton… the indictment that wasn’t.
– CIA MKUltra program
– CIA Mockingbird Media program
– Las Vegas massacre shooting
– “classified documents” BS
– Hiding Hunter Biden and Biden Crime Family stories
-Hiding Hillary Clinton Server stories, Email stories, Clinton Foundation, Uranium One deal
– Hiding Jeffrey Epstein truths
Started questioning U.S. government over the handling of / background of 9/11 (after a relative shared a report with me); got more invested in the ‘grand scheme’ by the end of high school (2009) and read a ton of articles on The Vigilant Citizen website (2011) when they were still free.. And other stuff since (e.g. books, articles, etc.)
I don’t think it was a single incident, it was more gradual than that. Like slowly becoming aware of your surroundings after waking up from a deep sleep.
Probably started around age 25 or so and took about a decade to become fully engaged.
Sort answer: President Reagan
My parents and siblings are all democrats so I thought I was too until President Reagan. His vision and passion for the United States spoke to me and I have never looked back. That is when I really began to pay attention and realize I am a conservative and my political awakening began.
Curiosity and doubt started in the 90’s. Not until the internet was born that I started reading Conservative Blogs and dug deeper for the truth. 2007-2008 during Obama’s presidential campaign the sleeping giant in me was awaken and I started reading a Blog Hillbuzz and found out alot about Obama, Clintons, Bushes New World Order. I read every day about the corruption in Our Government. I was a registered Dem and SWITCHED party to become a REPUBLICAN Then I found Sundance….Trayvon Martin, Jessica Chambers and the in depth reporting of Sundance. This is my favorite site to read multiple times every day
President Trump’s ride down the escalator and I was all in 100%
Many Thanks to the staff and all the Treepers for their Postings.
We as a Country have been thru alot and it is time to take this Country back. I pray that President Trump can win 2024
Sundance I have always said you are my GateKeeper. Thank you for every article of truth that you publish. I am eternally grateful.
Love To All
TEA
Your post rung a bell with me. 1990’s I was a Enterprise Large Scale Mainframe (Big Iron – IBM) Computer Operations. When everyone at home had a 56K modem our data center had T1 lines. Being always 3rd shift (because of my talent , overnight is where the action is – always got accolades from the heavy hitters “you must of been on shift while I was on call this last 4 days , I was able to Sleep!” what a complement!)
Those T1 lines were fast and I discovered WorldNetDaily and other Conservative sites That opened my eyes to the False narrative engineering of the Corporate owned News.
Also discovered Art Bell and that show was some great entertainment on those long nights….
I was fortunate enough to have a father who taught me to always question and never take a government/media narrative at face value. But I discovered the depth of the corruption when the Clintons were caught red-handed (pun intended) receiving $$ from the Chinese and nothing happened. Now the nothing happens is a daily event.
The origin of the journey was when I discovered this site around 2012. Before that time, I followed social media wherever it lead. Sundance taught me to search for myself. Now I only go to a few sites I trust for information. This site is number one. I don’t spend much time on social media because I am too busy enjoying life. I pray for my kids and grandkids everyday, and I throw dirt whenever I can. God Bless You All!
This comment section is one of the best reads on the web, maybe ever. Modern/recent history by critical thinkers who lived it. Profoundly interesting and genuine. Sundance, well done! Now answer your own question for us… please.
For me, my awakening was a little at a time then all at once. The final straw was the day of my return from Afghanistan (a place I found to be foundationally evil) in 04. I read the USA Today’s articles on the “war” and it was so far from reality I thought I was reading the National Enquirer.
While politics was always in the background, it was never so clearly corrupted by a complicit MSM with such a warped and often evil agenda. It is the truth that sets us free from evil… eh Sundance!
Yes, I’d love to hear Sundance’s answer!
The first was 11/22/1963. It was the right turn the motorcaid made to go past the Texas School Book Repository building and the smoke from the Grassy Knoll. It never made sense. Oswald was a patsy and Ruby was a setup.
The second was 9/11/2001 and the Pentagon. No video of whatever went into the building. No fuselage remains. Destruction was small. Where was the fuel fire/explosion like the Twin Towers? Eighteen Saudis involved yet we went after Iraq.
Obamacare was the third. Obamacare was a ruse, but McCains thumbs down to vote it out was the clincher. John Roberts redefining a “tax.”
And that brought Trump, who brought common sense and showed me how biased the media has become.
It all opened up for me when I read about how the FBI was illegally spying on/”wire tapping” Trump as a candidate. The constant denials by the FBI and Swamp against the hidden facts that were emerging raised my flag. It made me pay attention that the rig was on.
For myself I would say there were two pivotal moments that shaped my political worldview. The first came early when I was drafted during the war in Vietnam and the second was the release of the DNC emails. The first instance taught me to never believe the government or the media when it came to framing a narrative around armed conflict, because God knows how many people died in that so called “Police Action” that in the end was all for nothing.
Decades later the DNC (Podesta) emails opened my eyes to the existence of another world that I had tried so hard to forget. Going down that rabbit hole lead me to RussiaGate, SpyGate and the Michael Flynn story. From there it was an easy jumping off spot to Dan Bongino and eventually “The Treehouse” where I found a home of like minded individuals.
Initially I may not always agree with Sundance’s point of view, but 99 times out of 100 he has proven himself to be closer to the mark than I was. He called Bill Barr out for what he was, while I was still thinking the guy would eventually do the right thing. Thanks to the Treehouse I have a years supply of food stocked away and a completely different mindset of what to expect in the days ahead.
It was after Donald Trump was elected and the Russia collusion hoax began. The longer it went on the more disheartening it was to see that we were openly being lied to by those we trust to tell us the truth. I realize something evil existed in all facets of media, government, and corporate America. The the VAX mandates came am I started to plot my escape from the tyranny. I am cynical that control can be returned to the people once it has been lost.
It was shortly after Bill Clinton became President and reading how people close to him and Hillary were dying strange deaths. My brother and I subscribed to an early internet talk group that posted on the subject: McDougal from Whitewater, Ron Brown’s airplane crash, witnesses to drug running from Mena airport, etc. etc. etc. Then following that with reading about the Waco Branch Davidian debacle, Ruby Ridge, potential FBI involvement in the Oklahoma City bombing (known wolf), Richard Jewell’s sad case in the 1996 Summer Olympics, etc, etc, etc. Then noticing how the medical establishment started targeting every item that had a role in extending our life expectancy, saying they were going to kill you: coffee, eggs, butter, beef, wine, etc, etc, etc. Then every successful product that provided you comfort: lightbulbs, dishwashers that wash, plastic bags, cars, uncensored news, private medical care, etc, etc, etc. What these people will do to us if they obtain full power is frightening.
My parents lived through the fall of Rhodesia (my father and every other male relative I had from that generation fought in that war, even my grandfather who was in his fifties at the time), moved to South Africa where I was born. We have always known what was happening because we were on the receiving end of the lies almost from the start. Everything we saw around us was different as to what appeared on Western news.
One example told by my family was an ‘anti-apartheid’ (pro-commie really) protest at Wits university. A friend of my father went to look at it as it had been advertised and stood on the roof of the university. There were six white students and fifty blacks behind them. A TV crew arrived and started filming the small protest.
That night, the clip was shown around the world stating that hundreds of white students and thousands of blacks had protested apartheid. The only footage ever shown in that news report of the ‘huge’ protest was extreme close ups of the minute gathering. We have always known reporting was a sham and an attack on Western Christian values.
Yes: an attack on Jude0-Christian Civilization, aka Western Civ.
My eye opening was the Fall of 2016. Watching the massive crowds at a Trump rally versus the small setup crowds at the Biden rallies. It looked staged and seemed like they were lying to us. I started paying closer attention at that point.
Remember the Biden rally where they brought in a whole bunch of new Jeeps to make it seem like it was a well attended car rally! That picture/video is forever etched in my memory.
Thanks Sundance for these eye opening years !
Mine was/is result of the congestion of a few events over time.
1st… The
murder of L.H.Oswald on national television.I was but a child but having been raised amongst critical thinking folk ,a few of them LE and /or in politics at the time, instinctively knew that was extremely suspect.
2…My father was WW2 Marine 1st Div. Okinawa.Sharpshooter/Artillery Gunner.A patriot and later a history professor. It was late 60’s .My brother was about to graduate high school ,didn’t qualify for a scholarship and parents were financially strapped paying off their own schooling and youngest brother’s medical bills. They were concerned about my older brother being drafted.
I over heard my father tell my older brother… “You will not go to VietNam. I will drive you to Canada myself!” 😮 My father ! ? Wasn’t until years later when he finally opened up about Okinawa etc. did I fully understand his vitrol. To be sure ,he understood early on in the Vietnam war ,that we shouldn’t have been there and were being lied to by the politicians and the media and was a little vocal about it at home. He detested Kennedy but more so especially Johnson .
3…Kent State Massacre. Something changed in me that day.Not sure what.
I was and still am antiwar. Not a pacifist.
4…There were some incidents in my spiritual journey that I believe were indications of not only danger but also nefarious ABC agency participation. One incident that never made sense to me until years later was participation of the U.N. + ABC agency +a foreign agency in the grooming of a later American President. Possibly ,in my view ,for reasons, not an American. That said..there was one especially that scared me straight. I hesitate sharing because people ,in general, think it’s your imagination . If that was the case ,there were 3 people ,that I know of ,who were imagining the same thing at the same time.We witnessed a prominent new age spiritual leader’s( lol) eyes go completely (fully) black and back to normal again. Not contacts . No light tricks. Completely black.
Jesus saved me then…again .I learned to filter through Him.
Must add…..Waco and Ruby Ridge.Very enlightening.
2nd Obama term. Approx 2013. I trade stocks and constantly keep eyes on the news ticker. Started noticing how left leaning all the mainstream media had become. Then trying to do everything in their power to destroy Trump
Oddly, my journey began with my always uneasy relationship to the TV. I didn’t watch much TV as a kid. TV made me suspicious and antsy. When I was very young the Vietnam War was playing on TV and Watergate. Something about TV news always made me really uncomfortable–I don’t know how to explain it other than normal cognitive dissonance. Who was filming this and why were they filming this instead of trying to help, and why is there only one view or response to any given situation and why is this then interrupted by ads for Folger’s coffee and Maxwell House and Martini & Rossi on the rocks? It was surreal and a show, only it pretended to be real. Later on, I started to study media critically and to write about it. This took place in the 90s and I looked at everything from product placement in TV shows to ‘reality’ TV like COPS that tried to manipulate reality. I read a great book by Robin Andersen that is undeservedly unknown called Consumer Culture and TV Programming and I read Neil Gabler’s book Amusing Ourselves to Death etc. And then Sept.11th happened, which changed the stakes completely. My feelings about my culture, specifically our government went from highly critical to absolutely outraged. I had just moved out of NYC months earlier and the moment building 7 collapsed I knew we were watching a lie–I just didn’t know what the lie was, or how it worked, but I had that stomach jumping to the heart sensation and I understood that essentially I had just watched a Coup d’etat–but I didn’t know where the Coup came from. So many parallels between Sept. 11 and the Covid Rollout, which I tended to think of as part two of operation Seize our Freedoms, or as part 2 of the coup d’Etat. Thanks for asking the question.
I read “Amusing Ourselves to Death” in 1993 — it’s a must read for us: a properly cautionary tome; a brief chronicle of the decline of American culture. Its author, Neil Postman, is not to be confused with Neal Gabler (both of whose bios can be found at your fingertips via your preferred search engine).
A wonderful question. I was in my fifties before I noticed, and it took a couple more election cycles for me to sort it out! A lifelong Roosevelt Democrat, when Obama ran for office I noticed he was surrounded by people I’d been tracking for years–a pure litmus test of bad policies and bad behavior. It never occurred to me that Obama could be elected, let alone would be not least because of the baggage of those personalities. It’s still possible that he did not win those elections, now that we know the results of Jay Valentine’s research (see American Thinker articles by Jay), but those were an interminable 8 years. I knew something was seriously wrong before 2008 with Bush and the Saudis, but each national election since 2000 has focused my attention. Ever since Trump, it’s nearly impossible to look away from the mess and not see the gears grinding us up.
My question for my countrymen is… what will it take for you to notice?
The Warren Commission was my epiphany. There was no way Oswald could have shot Kennedy with a bolt action rifle in the time alloted from the Book Depository. I could never understand why so many Americans that were familiar with guns and hunting could swallow the BS that was the Commission report. Since then there have been countless examples of how the elected representatives have allowed lies to be spread to enhance and ensure their control of power.
it was in 1992, when I was home working on my doctoral research and dissertation. We had a tile setter from Colorado Springs working at our house who just casually asked one day if I’d ever heard of Rush Limbaugh — I think he had Rush playing on his radio. Since I had the luxury of listening to the radio while writing in my study, I quickly became hooked. His perspective resonated with me, especially, since I was (and still am) married to a hardworking, quintessential entrepreneur. The contrast between the real world of working people and that of lofty academics had already planted its seed, even though, I was fortunate to have had many old school professors in my department who still believed in academic rigor and a classical approach. One of my favorites, a brilliant statistician, was a devout Christian and held weekly bible studies –this was at the University of Colorado, Boulder, in the late 1980’s and early 90’s! Unfortunately, by the time I earned my PhD in ’94, a career as a college professor had lost much of its luster and I left to work in my husband’s business, which I love. My eyes were open.
I have voted in every presidential election since 1972 and have never voted anything other than republican. I did not become a political junkie until one Barack Hussein Obama came onto the scene. Initially I thought it might be good for America to have a black president so I was willing to at least listen. His response to Joe the plumber that “you didn’t build that” short circuited any notion I could possibly have to vote for him and it went downhill fast from there. It was a politically tortuous eight years for me. It had nothing to do with the color of his skin but everything to do with his ideology, is disdain for America and the content of his character. The McCain and Romney losing experiences, along with finding the CTH website and Andrew Breitbart initiated my doubts about the republican party’s seriousness about true conservatism, especially in regard to a secure border and protecting American jobs and culture.
I was enthused with and supported the Tea Party but unfortunately it had good policy proposals but limited political leadership. Donald J. Trump had me with his first speech. He was the first candidate that exemplified my ideology in an America first platform that the Tea Party had previously exemplified. Trump was also the first political candidate I donated to. It has been an emotional roller coaster ride but I will support only Trump as long as he is running. I abhor the stolen elections of 2020 and 2022 and fear for the future of America but also believe the resurgence in patriotism will prevail over the evil.

1950. My grandfather who owned a small rural grocery store became eligible to enroll in Social Security. I spent afternoons after school with him reading the newspaper. We discussed politics. I can see him now explaining to me how Social Security would eventually fail, would run out of money. He disliked Roosevelt for pushing a program for political gain that offered false hope. He refused to sign up for the program. “I’ve not put a penny in, I won’t take a penny out.”
“Baby, don’t believe what you read or what you hear. Get the facts. Check it out.”
I saw Jack Ruby shoot Oswald during college cafeteria lunch, watched my new husband leave for a year in Vietnam, faced disappointment with Nixon, Clinton, Bush and Bush, and disgust with O and B.
The thing that I’m most ashamed of with respect to my own mother is that I encouraged her to vote for McConnell as the “lesser of two evils”. I wish I could take that back!
Check it out. Know history. Listen to God.
Thank you, Sundance, for the refuge you provide.
Observation: I am not counting, but it seems that Rush Limbaugh is in the lead for waking people up! What a glorious testament to his wisdom, intellect, common sense, and using it for the good of our country.
I think obama is running a close second.
Hard to pinpoint the exact period..the 60’s definitely were a catalyst.., I remember the Missiles in October, scaring the crap out of us, the bomb drills in schools, air raid sirens every Friday noon.. then JFK, being killed..LBJ I believe was instrumental in it.., we may never know.., but it was “the swamp” before we knew there was a ‘swamp’. Then the Vietnam war, having to register for the draft, while my school buddies, came home in body bags from someplace a half a world away.. I started listening to the AM radio DJ expressing his views.., and I’ve been paying attention ever since.. Didn’t really grasp the damage done by Carter, and 14% interest rates until you tried to buy something on credit.. it’s been an uphill battle forever it seems.., and yet here today, we swirl the bowl around the drain.., a Great Society that has lost its way..by design.., incremental In movement, but always a day closer to the abyss. All I can say, with my observations, is the speed it has hastened here of late.., as our enemies are pouring gas on the fire, they started 7+ decades ago.., and fanning the flames.. all the while most people are roasting marshmallows ..
I started to pay attention when Obama said that he was going to fundamentally transform America. That statement stood out in a very disturbing way.
The only time they ever told the truth
Obama’s statement triggered warning bells in my brain. I remember telling the hubs if he gets elected, we’re screwed.
For me it was 2015. I began noticing You tube videos reporting Homeland security buying millions of rounds of HOLLOW POINT ammo (not target rounds) and the constructing of FEMA camps around the country with concertina wire on top of the fencing (?!) Plastic boxes the size of coffins being stored by the hundreds on vacant lots somewhere in the midwest and the topper was Hillary Clinton announcing her bid for the presidency. By the fall of 2016 I could not find anyone who would tell me she would loose the election. By October 3rd 2016 I had sold everything I could lay hands on for a grub stake and a one way ticket to Australia and I was in Melbourne watching the campaigning and the election on Youtube. I was as surprised as anyone when Trump actually won! I returned to the US in the fall of 2017 and I have been here since doing what I can to try to win back our country.
whomever turns out to be the GOP nominee, I wish they would put into their platform the pledge to confiscate every single round of Obama ammunition for distribution to NRA chapters nationwide, where it can either be disbursed to local members or kept in the chapter for gun education and training / range use.
Further, federal agents are now responsible for buying their own equipment; guns, ammo, kevlar hats, armored vehicles, shields, battering rams and any other piece of kit they think makes them impervious to direct fire from trained NRA graduates.
Also, that every day be Larry and Emil Day. “It’s not much fun when the rabbit’s got the gun.”
For me it was the assassination of Kennedy. The official story that JFK was murdered by a lone nut assassin who was murdered by a lone nut assassin while in the custody of the Dallas police was laughable. I was a fifteen year old kid and I knew the story was absurd. Then I became gobsmacked when the media, whom I had always trusted, jumped in to defend the official fairy tale with both feet. That’s when I knew there was little if any separation between the media and government corruption. Then I watched LBJ take the country into the long tunnel of war in SE Asia. Everyone could see the two event clearly connected. Brown & Root and the other big contractors become filthy rich.

You probably also remember newscaster Walter Cronkite, from whom much of the nation heard the terribly sad and disturbing news that Kennedy had died.
But do you remember his signature sign-off after every broadcast: Well, that’s THE WAY IT IS, folks, this xx day of xx, 19xx?
He was conditioning his viewers to trust the national news for information, for truth, and for direction, of a sort. But did you know he was a One-Worlder? A year or so ago, I happened upon a YT video in which he was speaking to apparently like-minded men, declaring his allegiance?, his support?, his approval?, for this new world order.
Rush enlightened me in the early 90’s. I was always an independent thinker and he helped me to see things differently.
Mine was in the early 1960s when my parents and their friends questioned the bald faced lie of the assassination of Kennedy by our government! I took upquestioning everything in 1973 and devoured all CTs (or truth) from 1975 on through today!
I had this bizarre reaction the day JFK was killed, just got to Elementary school, they announced he was shot. The bus drove us home, I walked directly to my best friends house and told him “we cannot be friends anymore” and walked away.
I was so perplexed as to why I did this my entire life. I was always friendly to people. But no one could change my mind.
I have never consciously had a reason for doing that really, until today. Maybe it was the first day in my little life that I realized there is sheer evil in this world; so perhaps I sensed evil from him and knew it profoundly that day. I never talked to him for the rest of my life through elementary, junior high and high school.
I guess that was my first day
For me, growing up o a farm and spending untold hours on a tractor, my awakening is absolutly tied to the late, great Rush Limbaugh. How I miss him even to this day. So thankful to God that we now have Sundance and the many likeminded patriots who regularly post here. This site has to drive the wretchedUniparty mad..
As soon as Obama the Kenyan got elected, and I immediately noticed he was doing one thing while saying something else. Like a master magician, “…don’t watch what I’m doing, listen to what I’m telling you”
For me it was probably in the last Bush and first Obama presidency (2007-2010) time frame when I realized something was not right. I had noticed a serious decline in what is now termed legacy media reporting, and how there were obviously two sets of standards based solely on politics. It got significantly worse from there.
I noticed Nancy Pelosi prattling on about firearms, and though being agnostic on the subject I could tell she was either lying through her teeth or had no idea what she was saying. So I went out and bought a pistol and started competing at matches. Because Nancy can go to h-e-double-hockey-sticks. Knowing something about the subject now, I can say without hesitation that most people who pontificate on the subject know nearly nothing about it. Ted Cruz knows something, and is an effective defender of the second amendment which is why I like the guy. I might not trust him too far, but his defense of the 2nd is spot on.
Watching the legacy media go after Trump was eye opening, and their effect on what I would consider normally rational people was very disconcerting. Educated and intelligent people became screaming lunatics if they consumed “normal” news products. It seemed like a psy-op then, and it still does. That is why I’m here…
I have always been aware and informed due to my upbringing where I was encouraged to read the newspaper everyday cover to cover and follow political events by my family.
My great-grandfather emigrated to Illinois from Germany in 1859 at 16 years old and personally met and spoke with Abraham Lincoln during his campaign. We have been a Republican family ever since. He worked and purchased a farm in southern Illinois which has remained in the family ever since. My grandfather was born there in 1875 and my father in 1915.
My first awakening occurred in 1968 when Walter Cronkite did his Tet offensive editorial. I knew about the power of the press and yellow journalism from history, but seeing that broadcast on live TV and its effect on people was a sight to behold. I knew that it had unleashed a power that the media would find irresistible to use in the future.
The second came in 1976 when Ronald Reagan ran for President against Gerald Ford and the extreme lies that the establishment Republicans and media unleased against him during the primaries. That was truly eye opening even for a well established Republican.
When I read Robert Caro’s books about LBJ
Im 60 years old. I was born, raised and live in Oklahoma City. Enough said.
WOW – HI – Not many of us around 🙂
First off, never had a facebook or twitter account. I work a lot. Before the 2016 election when we elected our Lion, he mentioned fake news a lot along the campaign trail. I didn’t really pay too much attention to news then but PDJT brought it to my attention. I watched cnn and even fox a few times and I realized he was exactly right. What they were saying wasn’t my life experience. I searched and found the Treehouse and CFP around the same time. I rarely comment but read daily. Love the people here. 2016 was a really big year for my awakening. God Bless you Sundance for being here.
I was in high school and my mother was the secretary to the governor of Connecticut. Being in the midst of the political arena made you well aware of media and deceit. It just has escalated to the point of chaos.
The “election” of Obama…
But now I think McCain would have been worse.
Gotta disagree. Obama’s having his third term. McCain’s dead.
& thank goodness for your second observation.
Yeah… I think I agree with “disklxik?”
Obama gave us TRUMP, for 8 years!
(Well, would’ve been… if the corrupt DS hadn’t stolen it….)
At slightly over 50 years of age, this is a very difficult question to answer indeed because I have been paying attention for so many years now. It likely started in college for me, and has been a series of reaffirming events, one after another after another. While there are countless lesser examples, Bill Clinton’s finger wagging “[i]t depends on what the definition of ‘is’ is” moment certainly comes to mind, then you have Benghazi, Congress members’ continued ability to insider trade where you and I would be nearly immediately arrested and incarcerated, to the astonishing crimes of the covid scandal and complete lack of any accountability (which accountability unfortunately will never come – think Linus’s The Great Pumpkin), to the most recent East Palestine debacle. The aforementioned is obviously not an exhaustive list by any means, but simply some of the moments that immediately come to mind on a Sunday morning before enough coffee. The problem is that accountability, integrity, and consequences for bad behavior have become dinosaurs, and there is no Jurassic Park in sight. My children have studied and continue to study “the Great Works” in their school, and my spouse regularly reminds me that what we are experiencing is a tale as old as time. I likely agree, but it certainly seems to be getting worse, but maybe that is just me showing my age …
I always felt there was something wrong but Obama’s first election made me realize that hope and change was just a punch line. 2010 AJ finished the awakening.
Thanks for asking Sundance,
On 1/26/98 when Clinton said ” I did not have sexual relations with that woman” opened my eyes. That a POTUS would appear on national tv with his cabinet surrounding him in support and tell such an obvious lie, really blew my mind. He knew that millions of citizens knew this was a lie, but told it anyway.
Looking back I don’t know why it took me that long.
Your coverage of the Trayvon trial furthered my awakening. Your post on the “uniparty” concept was also very eye-opening .
