Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is one of the primary voices against Representative Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for the House speaker role. Gaetz appeared on Fox News to discuss the background issues with Kevin McCarthy and the lack of trust held by the group opposing him.
Additionally, Gaetz refuses to accept the criticism from former House republicans who created the crisis of confidence within the American electorate. When challenged about the specific criticism, Gaetz does a good job putting context to the failed republican efforts over the past 15 years. The video is a good encapsulation of the current status. Mary Miller is the only MAGA, grassroot conservative member of Congress from my home state of Illinois. I hope she doesn’t sell out her speaker vote.
Miller has so far voted for Donalds and Jordan.
There are a total of three Republican members of Congress from Illinois. Mike Bost and Darin LaHood are the other two and they both voted for McCarthy
Bost represents a solid conservative district in Southern Illinois. He shouldn’t be supporting McCarthy for speaker as he represents a solid conservative district and presents himself as being a grassroot conservative.
LaHood comes from a RINO family as his dad was RINO Ray LaHood, so I’m not surprised that he is supporting McCarthy. McCarthy represents a district in Central Illinois that isn’t as solidly conservative as Bost’s district, but is still nonetheless conservative.
Miller represents a very conservative district in Southern Illinois that is one of the most conservative districts in the country.
Thank you for your comment. I spoke with one of Bost’s aides who answered the phone yesterday, and made my appeal for him to change his vote. Two votes later, his vote wasn’t changed. Bost’s donor base is mostly agricultural interests, so there’s that. I think at this point, he needs to come out and try and justify why he’s being stubborn.

Bost was my congressman until I was gerrymandered out of his district and into Democrat Nikki Budzinski’s district this year.
Good idea. I just did that now. I like to call out politicians when they do something I disagree with, but it’s also important to show appreciation when they do something right.
Maybe it helps to think of RNC Inc and DNC Inc as RJ Reynolds and Phillip Morris (in their old pre-merger iterations).

They are not representing those elected them most of the time due to lack of courage and resolve. They should push back. Stand their ground. If kevin is speaker, he will have made significant concessions. Then comes making sure the patriots hold his feet to the fire. Be ready for the speaker to be kevin. That is not my choice, but it may very well happen.
In our system, a congressman represents two entities, the state or jurisdiction from which he comes, and the United States of America.
Both must be considered equally in all deliberations.
I say this because recently, at the time of the approval of the omnibus bill, Elaine Chao, Mitch McConnel’s wife, stated in very weak defense of her husband’s cupidity, that the latter was very dedicated to his Kentucky constituents, and that he deeply cares about their needs and concerns.
We, who are ferocious critics of McConnel, would counter that he, in his role as a key senator in important deliberations regarding federal governmental decision-making, cares way too much about his own special interests (albeit for Kentuckians) at the expense of the stability and viability of the United States.
Federalism demands a careful weighing of both dimensions because we know that claiming concerns about constituent needs or opinions is often a refuge for political scoundrels like McConnell and others who care little about the viability of the United States.
Matt Gaetz’ mutinous movement strikes a major, historic blow in favor of the power and stability of the United States of America, its federalist system, its constitutional basis, and the beauty of it all is that no patriotic citizen of the United States could ever be at odds with its purpose of responsible governance, no matter the state in which he resides.

The issue of ending omnibus bills is huge. The issue of separate funding bills for each department is huge. The issue of single focus fills is huge. The issue of armed IRS agents is huge. The issue of FBI/CIA/NSA/ETC. transparency is huge. The issue of using classification systems to hide information from the public is huge.
McCarthy will NOT fix any of these.
That said, the uniparty will eventually tire of this and elect somebody as speaker of the house. When called on there will easily be 30 or so democrats in purple or red seats who will step up and vote for a liberal republican as speaker of the house.

The damage was done by the outgoing Senate Republicans who could have blocked the Omnibus spending bill which cannot be repealed as the Senate would have to concur and Biden would have to sign it, and he won’t. Therefore the House has no power of the purse until October 1st. As far as I’m concerned I care not if they accomplish nothing until that day, and that’s because they already gave away their own power — so there is no productive purpose to them being there at all with their so-called “majority” until that bill expires.
That is September 30th.
The only reason to support them convening the House and conducting business is if that is absolutely resolved and cannot happen again. Therefore the following has to be the set of conditions under which you vote for a Speaker:

Lauren Boebert was on Sean Hannity’s show last night. She was going to discuss the same issues with Kevin McCarthy. She never got the chance. She represents my District in the House and I am very pleased with how hard she works to give us a voice in that assembly. I agree with most of her positions, which is all any of us can ask for, on the issues on the current agendas.
I was appalled to see how the moron Hannity kept interrupting her every time she tried to answer his questions about what he thinks is a crisis in the Speaker of the House selection. He was rude to her and she kept trying to give her answers around his constant interruptions. I would not have been watching Hannity except that Lauren Boebert was the so called guest of the four minute slot between the five minute commercial breaks.
I will never watch Sean Hannity again. I read most of my news because the author is a lot more concerned about supporting his/her own viewpoint with at least a semblance of effort to stick to the facts. Sundance is the best I have found for trying to do that and is the reason I post my opinions here and not elsewhere.

Told the lady that answered the call my name and stated that I have been voting for John Rutherford from the first time he ran for office in Duval county until now, many years. Then I told her that if he keeps voting for McCarthy I will never vote for him again, because McCarthy has been stabbing us in the back.
The lady that answered the phone did not sound concerned at all about what I told her. She stated she would let him know about my call but did not sound concerned at all. What does that sound like? Sounds like Rutherford is part of the swamp, and she knows it. The swamp does not care about us. So I would not be surprised if he keeps voting for McCarthy, no matter how many people keep calling his office and tell him to represent us by not voting for rino McCarthy.

Its glorious and scary all at the same time. The worst part is not knowing what exactly is the right thing on every issue. I don’t have all the answers but I would suggest that instead of getting wrapped up in any particular politician that we become much more transactional. Its okay to think Gaetz or Boebert or any of the rebels have ulterior motives and still support what they’re doing in this instance. Its okay to think the other Freedom Caucus members are wrong on this issue and should be standing with the rebels but they may be more useful in the future. Its okay to think Trump is wrong on this issue and still believe he is the best candidate at this time to implement an America First agenda as president. We can disagree with people on certain points or issues but still have a positive view of them overall.
Not everything is the end of the world and a reason to write someone off forever. In my mind, the only question to ask each time is, does this help MAGA/America First agenda? If the answer is yes, then support that person whomever it is. If the answer is no but they’ve been helpful in the past, don’t support them now but keep an open mind in case they help our cause later.
Its really not worth becoming too emotionally invested in people we’ve never actually met and that’s especially true with politicians.

I haven’t watched the fake news for over thirty years.
I no longer believe anything anyone says about anything and it certainly is not because my information comes from fake news. I decided in the early’90s that I was no longer going to turn my ears, eyes, and brain over to the influence of whoever was producing that garbage . (Remember when the entire ABC news crew had to attend to some monster tragedy [might have been the Oklahoma City bombing]…and THEN they produced a FULL SHOW that explained how FAST they have to get ready to respond to such situations–that show included features on makeup, go-bags, hair-stylists….enough to give a person shingles…and it was within the time frame of the immediate aftermath).
My disbelief of media is based on human experience and the ability to identify manipulation (by crowds or individuals); the skin-crawl that comes when I see an individual respond to the manipulation and change their minds about something because of the manipulation’s impact; and, finally, I know what truth and clarity looks like and sounds like.
It’s the old saw….anyone whose job it is to identify phony money has learned, deeply, what real money looks like and feels like.
Anyone who is familiar with what truth looks like and sounds like will generally have an instinctive revulsion to what is false. Even if they can’t articulate it, point by point.
Do you understand that even Sundance does not want to be responsible for every opinion you have and every thought you think? Nobody with a healthy sense of self and reality wants that responsibility with regard to another.
As soon as the interviewer heard, “drain the Swamp,” his head went sideways. it’s like garlic to the possessed.
So … McCarthy didn’t expect any blowback for his part in undermining Trump’s candidates in the midterms? Tone deaf doesn’t begin to explain it
