Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) on Wednesday said “preliminary talks” had begun with Democrats about supporting a “consensus candidate” for Speaker. Bacon told CNN, however, he wanted to hold back on the details of the conversations so as to not get ahead of the negotiations.

“Consensus candidate” is the Official Government Party code for “Democrat/Leftist”.
That’s what happened in the senate. McConnell knew if the Conservative Republicans won the Party would flourish and he may not have support for Majority Leader. Cocaine Mitch even went so far as to support the corrupt Lisa Murkowski, worst of the RINOs, over a true Republican. And they promptly vote for him as Minority Leader. How long does it take to conduct a poll? Is there a pollster within reach who could quickly turn around a poll of registered Republican voter asking a set of simple questions such as:
Do you favor the recent passage of the Omnibus spending bill?
Do you favor government funding of Planned parenthood?
Do you favor increasing current levels of financing the war in Ukrane?
Do you favor American energy independence?
Do you favor increased government spending while we are in the midst of an inflation?
Do you feel that current Republican leadership in the House of Representatives is 1) in very good touch, 2) is compromised and only marginally in touch 3) out of touch with the issues that concern most Americans?
Do you believe that current leadership in the House of Representatives has been 1) effective in opposing the Biden regime 2) wishy-washy in opposing the Biden regime, or has 3) rolled over and capitulated to the Biden regime offering only lip service in opposition?
Do you have 1) great confidence 2) limited confidence or 3) very little or no confidence in current Republican leadership in the Houe of Representatives?
Bring the results to the floor and distribute them to every Republican in the house. If the results indicate strong public support for McCarthy on THESE ISSUES, not his name or headline-grabbing bloviations, shoo him in and be done with it.
If the results show less than a vote of confidence, shame and shoo Kevin out and bring in, let’s say, Chip Roy as an unknown speaker who can, Phoenix-bird-like, rise from the ashes of the current floor fight and be a strong leader who can get things done and simultaneously terrify the democrats.
As long as they are voting they are not hurting the country.
