I would hate to lose Jordon as the Judiciary Committee chair. But I also can’t stand McCarthy! McCarthy will probably block investigations going forward and give his speech, “we need to do the work of the people” and skip right over investigations into treason. The thought of a democrat is disgusting. Now democrats will prob vote for McCarthy though just to spite the republicans and knowing he will block investigations going forward.

Jim Jordan has stated several times he doesn’t want to be Speaker, he wants to head the House intelligence committee, and a Speaker cannot be the head of any committees – what Gaetz is doing is positioning the House to vote for an acceptable Democrat to be the next House speaker.

The politico/corporate billionaire nexus Sundance highlights guarantees a lengthy struggle. And that is exactly what has happened since PDJT rode down the escalator.
Far as I can fathom, a hypothesis was accepted at some point that the existing Republican power structure could be suborned or purged (at the voting booth) through an ascendent populist movement. Some gross miscalculations were made.

Why is he endorsing KM ? Because in a vote this close KM will always know that should he become speaker he will always and forever be indebted to Jordan, who did him a “favor” (see: Vito Corleone). Jordan just bought, and now owns KM, at a discount price.

He HAD to work hard to prevent the MAGA contingent (in the House) from growing, which meant he withheld $ and resources from MAGA Candidates, but,….
In so doing, he insured a small Republican Majority, which means a few MAGA Reps that stick together can block legislation, or in this case a vote for Speaker.
IF he manages to come out of this with the Speakership, he is going to have a constant battle with the MAGA contingent.
Jordan isn’t my first choice for an alternative, and listening to his floor address, nominating McCarthy illustrates why.

Why isn’t this done in Republican caucus? Decision made there on who their Speaker will be, then do the vote. If you can’t decide that between you, then what is the point of you?
It is my understanding that the Freedom caucus had a meeting with McCarthy with a list of demands. I know that McCarthy agreed to the recall vote if members weren’t happy with him. However, getting into the weeds (especially after listening to Chip Roy) I believe some of the other demands were to allow debate and amendments on bills, to make members actually be in the House to vote and eliminate proxy voting. In the last 3 years most members are never in the House and they vote by proxy. We are paying them to work remote with no accountability. If that’s the case then eliminate the need for a building/offices and just have the Reps work from their local state offices.
The kabuki theater has been happening since 2018. These reps are representing they are just playing like they are working. The same as all federal workers. None show up at the office any longer. Look at the IRS who are STILL working remotely. Same goes for SSA and I’m sure all of the agencies. A bloated government of federal employees most of whom are only pretending to work. That’s why our agencies are so hopeless and worthless.
I forgot to add that McCarthy refused to agree to most of the list of demands/requests. That hardened the Freedom Caucus.
On the plus side, not much work gets done “remotely” so I’m ok with all federal workers, especially the IRS, “working” from home. And I agree that their office buildings should be razed to the ground and replaced with nice parks or maybe some statues of slave owners.
Kevin McCarthy is the focus of the fury the Republican base harbors for Democrat moles Ronna McDaniel and especially Mitch McConnell. He has inherited the distrust MAGA Americans harbor against Establishment Republicans. For 35 years they have lied to and betrayed us, claiming to be what they are not. All chickens evdntually come home to roost, and unfortunately for him, they are landing on McCarthy’s head. It should be McConnell catching all this grief. I noticed that Mr. Jordan didn’t look at Mr. McCarthy when they shook hands at the end. That struck me as odd. You always look someone in the eyes when you shake their hand… especially adult men, especially two old colleagues, and members of the same team.
Maybe he was just in a hurry to sit back down and let the process continue. Maybe it’s normal for him and his humble demeanor… or maybe he KNOWS he’s the better candidate for the job, KNEW that he was going to be nominated by Mr. Gaetz, and this was just part of the act (theater act or act of humility or both) and he wasn’t sincere so that’s why he didn’t make eye contact.

Kevin McCarthy is the very epitome of an empty suit political hack. I wouldn’t trust him to lead a Boy Scout troop much less leadership of the House. Not that any of this really matters though.

McCarthy has always raised my b.s. meter alarm. He’s slick, he’s slimy and he lies. In other wards, he’s as fake as can be, much like most of them, but his slick mannerisms and snarky smile just are huge turn offs for me. I would not trust him at all.
However, he might be a means to an end to get more done because he can be controlled by the conservatives on many issues. Look at what his concessions have been already just to get the job.
I really have no skin in this game except it concerns me that whoever is Speaker is very very close to becoming Pres. Under the right circumstances. I’d really rather it would not be a Marxist Dem. In an extremely grudging salute, by me who cannot stand that woman, to the wicked witch of the west, she was not a Marxist. She navigated through them, and held her caucus together, for years.
The repubs are not in the same league as she was. How sad they don’t have a strong leader to put up for Speaker. As others have said, no one believes the repubs really want to lead at all.

I agree with Gaetz! But, I believe Jordan would be better heading up the investigations…he himself wants that. And we need that. We shall see…
