Extreme winter weather, such as subzero temperatures, wind chills and heavy snow, is impacting much of the U.S. this Christmas holiday weekend and is expected to heavily impact travel. Major parts of the U.S. electricity grid are very vulnerable, particularly as a result of Biden energy policy, steering investment away from coal, oil and natural gas.
Places across the northern Rockies, northern Plains and upper Midwest are experiencing temperature drops by tens of degrees in minutes. The extremely cold airmass is expected to hit at least 24 other states along the Gulf Coast and in the eastern U.S. The National Weather Service has a Detailed Warning HERE.
The potential for severe consequences as an outcome of this winter storm has the political minders of Joe Biden worried.
.
(Via NWS) – A major and anomalous storm system is forecast to produce a multitude of weather hazards through early this weekend, as heavy snowfall, strong winds, and dangerously cold temperatures span from the northern Great Basin through the Plains, Upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and the northern/central Appalachians.
At the forefront of the impressive weather pattern is a dangerous and record-breaking cold air mass in the wake of a strong arctic cold front diving southward across the southern Plains today and eastward into the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys by tonight.
Behind the front, temperatures across the central High Plains have already plummeted 50 degrees F in just a few hours, with widespread subzero readings extending throughout much of the central/northern Plains and northern Rockies/Great Basin.
These temperatures combined with sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph and higher wind gusts of up to 60 mph will continue to lead to wind chills as low as minus 40 degrees across a large swath of the Intermountain West and northern/central Plains, with more localized areas of minus 50 to minus 70 possible through the end of the week. I am reminded of Fort Wainwright, Alaska, in January of 1989, when a cold airmass settled on the state for weeks. It was so cold (-50°, -70° or worse) that airplanes could not achieve lift. McGrath went from +29° to -42° during a work shift. During a single work shift everyone’s truck tires were flat and frozen. LOL… Crazy stuff.
Joe Biden – “I’m going to, shortly, be briefed by — by both FEMA and the National Weather Service, and we’re going to start that briefing.
And — but in the meantime, please take this storm extremely seriously. And I don’t know whether your bosses will let you, but if you all have travel plans, leave now. Not — not a joke. I’m tell- — sending my staff — my staff, if they have plans to leave on — tomorrow — late tonight or tomorrow, I’m telling them to leave now. They can talk to me on the phone. It’s not life and death. But it will be if they don’t — if they don’t get out, they may not get out.
So, any rate, thank you all for coming in, and I’m going to do the briefing now. Thank you.” (link)
The polar air will bring “extreme and prolonged freezing conditions for southern Mississippi and southeast Louisiana,” the National Weather Service (NWS) said in a special weather statement Sunday.
“We’re looking at much-below normal temperatures, potentially record-low temperatures leading up to the Christmas holiday,” said NWS meteorologist Zack Taylor. (link)
Maybe the generous Mister Zelenskyyyy can lend Joe a few bucks to help with our recovery.
Zelinsky is a dirtbag..and a fake
“Not-not a Joke”!! The joke is this moron telling everyone its cold. His brain miss–fires more than an old blunder–bust.
This guy has been a waste of human flesh his whole life!
…..And his bimbo wife talking about
“what love is”.
They closed down everything here and put out a weather storm warning thru midnight. We got less maybe inch of snow and the wind gusts are nowhere to be found. Yes, it is a tad under zero, the same as yesterday, but that’s par for the course. This is winter weather.
I think this is an excuse to let the gubt funded workers off early (paid) and Delusional Joe just confirmed my suspicions.
I was po’d because last night they sent out a notice that they were closing the libraries for today. I remember my mom used to take us to the library on snow days.
It is ridiculous how wimpy they have all become. It gets worse and worse every passing year.
North Central Montana….it’s 40 degrees BELOW ZERO as I type this. I have a five foot snow drift blocking my front door and a 6 foot snow drift blocking my garage door.
It has snowed for the past two days, but today we’ve had a small break in the snow. Forecast shows snow is expected to begin again this evening. Cold temperatures are expected to continue through the weekend and these cold temperatures are brutal.
I lived in Wolf Point for two years.
A warm day would be 20 below, most days were 50 below.
Not a lot of snow, but what little we got piled up in front of the garage door, in 3-4 foot drifts.
Folks out there are tough. I used to watch the teenagers walking around in that weather in shorts, untied tennis shoes with no socks, and with their coats hanging open. No hat, no gloves.
GOOD to see you Litenmaus! So sorry for the weather. We’ll send Delusional Joe up there for some hot air. 😉
I recently told of a show I watched, ‘In With The Old‘ on Magnolia Network, about a small defunct company town that was being restored by a family as a destination and event location. As they restored the family cabins they realized the walls were paper thin. Cardboard and wallpaper was the only insulation.
The families whose relatives had lived there said that when they visited their relatives put so many quilts on them they felt like they were being buried, but all those homemade quilts were the only thing keeping them alive in the winter.
I said then that this will be the winter for quilts.

I think that was about the time that Russia put out their video that ‘Winter Is Coming‘.
It is -2 temp here in SE KS with a 16mph N/NW wind. Wind chill likely -30 and it is the middle of the afternoon with the sun shining. Tonight is going to be a freeze like we haven’t seen in decades. Worse than the polar vortex of Feb 2020. The cattle have extra feed, bedding and wind protection. Dogs and cat are in the heated shop with plenty of food and water. The fireplace is roaring in the house. We are stockpiled up for months if needed. Stay warm friends!
Where’s Dorothy? Where’s Toto? Are they safe in the cellar?
5 degrees here in central Oklahoma. Probably lower temps with the wind chill factor. My 3 dogs and 2 cats are in the house with me. The wind blew my front door open, 2 dogs got out and ran down the street. I finally managed to get them back in. Went out and started the car and truck just to make sure batteries didn’t die from the cold. I thought my hands were going to get frost bite. I stocked up on food and water a couple of days ago. Faucets are dripping so the water doesn’t freeze in the pipes. Flashlights and batteries are where I can find them if everything goes dark.
So far, no power blackouts. Hopefully everyone here gassed up their vehicles and took necessary amounts of cash out in case the ATMs shut down.
Yes indeed, it will get even colder tonite.
Thank you so much for providing the extras and some protection for the critters- I grew up on Minnesota farm but still always worry so much for the animals.
Even way down here in Florida, they have predicted a major cold front. Watching my birds and squirrels at my feeders loading up on extra fuel I gave them to keep them warm tomorrow. All God’s Creatures need to be protected. Nothing I can do about the iguanas though……
Be patient. Just a slight break in global warming.
Remember what Al said, the ice caps will be gone…
Wait, he said the ice caps would be gone 15 years ago. Hmmmm.
Watch out for MAN-BEAR-PIG!!!LOL!
Even the Pacific Northwest is in a cold snap. It was -9 outside here in far NE Washington this morning. Really not a problem. Water well and pipes far below freeze line. Laid in enough firewood to last until April & our EPA approved wood stove with its catalytic burner removed for cleaning 3 years ago keeps the house warm. No power problems yet but it we lose power the whole house generator is fueled up and ready to go. The vehicles all have block heaters and the other equipment is in the heated (by wood stove) shop. We rely on hydroelectric power here and the electric co-op hasn’t agreed to any of the federal bull shit.
Anchorage has had five feet of snow from prior storms. I’ve lived in Alaska three times, having lived in Anchorage and Fairbanks. January 1975 in Anchorage saw -44F while FBX was having -60F.
I’ve been over most of Alaska having worked on the Trans Alaska Pipeline System construction and commissioned officer in USPHS working in remote Alaska villages. CO2 climate change is total BS and the likes of Biden know it.
Chemtrails spraying heavy metals.
Other than that, just regular winter weather.
I see lots of morons popping up car windshield wiper blades and more and more they back into parking spaces as if that makes any difference, which it does not.
I abhor the new government run Weather application and their new fangled terms for specific conditions.
They always look to hype anything up to a frenzy while they destroy our beautiful country.
Yes, the cold weather will be intense but very short in duration.
By middle of next week much of country will see above average temps as Pacific flow takes over and cold air is stuck in Canada.
Yup, high of 28 today and high of 71 in 5 days! Go figure!
I considered putting the flannel sheets on the bed, but I’d just have to take them off again next week. Oh, and last week we were under a tornado warning.
As they say here in Texas: If you don’t like the weather, wait 30 minutes!
Heh, I’ve lived in five states, and every place I’ve ever lived has that saying, and I grew up thinking it was only for Indiana, which is where I grew up!
Jibberin’ Joe was a weatherman before he was installed as president. Corn Pop was his wingman and provided much needed context for Joe’s oftentimes incomprehensible predictions.
Now see this right here just absolutely proves global warming!!!
It’s so darned hot that it’s cold.
Hockey stick ? Hockey Stick???
Well turn that Hockey stick around and it becomes a boomerang.
That’s what we have here my friends, the Boomerang Hockey Stick.
Now this science is settled and 97% of all scientists around the world believe it.
It was proven by ice cores and computer models and swimming polar bears who, without ice to live on, swam to Iceland, climbed to the top of the volcano and then did the Makarena dance to appease the super cool warming gods of climate change. The warming gods saw this, felt pity and spun the hockey stick around making it a boomerang AND HERE WE ARE.
THIS IS THE SCIENCE MY FRIENDS.
This Christmas don’t be a science denier. Listen to good old uncle Joe and do what he says – because if he was your dad, you too could have turned out to be Hunter Biden.
No Hunter.
Not THAT kind of snow.
Sniff -sniff – sniff………….
Here in central OK, the temperatures began dropping from 22 at 5am to reach a low this afternoon at 2pm Central of 11 degrees. There is a light dusting of snow and the wind is HOWLING!
The wind has been extreme all day today, and while I have not been out yet, I will be going outside briefly to pick up my mail.
Fortunately, I do not need the fake president to warn me about the weather, nor do I need FEMA to do anything. It would be better for the gobm’t to get the hell out of the way, allow the oil to be pumped and American ingenuity to jump in and fix things.
They do more harm than good, and unfortunately for us, I believe that is their intent. Send my money to Ukraine but ignore citizen’s needs.
Still windy here (I’m in Pottawatomie County ). It was howling not too long ago. I watched a Livestream last night where someone was showing the traffic on the icy roads near Tulsa. People were driving way too fast and there were some accidents. The freeway looked like a sheet of ice.
Joe sez Blame it on the bosses if you cant leave early.
Blame it on the Bossanova
43 years ago I spent my first night in my trailer at the drilling rig where I was a consultant geologist in Dickenson ND. It was -80 with the wind chill. The drill pipe froze solid as it was drilling. Pretty much everything froze up that night.
The farm I grew up in the 40s/50s was about 150 NE of Dickenson in MT…yea. It gets nippy.
When our younger son went in the Air Force in the early 90s, he requested placement to either ND or Greenland…..he wanted to live in areas similar to where his grandfathers had farmed through their lives….turns out there was no waiting list for the distant radar facility the AF had at New England, S of Dickenson, so he spent a couple years there. Enjoyed some river fishing while he was there, too.
The kind of cold you are talking about just plain HURTS….
Yes it does hurt
I can’t imagine farming there…the season is so short!
Yup; that’s the Dakotas for you.
I remember my little aunt, aged 85, writing from Minnesota one year. “55 below…great weather for snowmobiles!”
“ANOMALOUS” says the National Weather Service.
A Winter Storm during the WINTER is not “anomalous,” it is normal!
A strong winter storm like this is also NOT anomalous, when the sun’s energy decreases during a cycle known as a Maunder Minimum!
It is to be expected, i.e. it becomes normal during such periods.
The Southern Hemisphere has just had a cold Winter AND a cooler than usual Spring because of the Maunder Minimum and the sun’s cycles of energy output.
People can probably create micro-disturbances in the weather by cutting down huge areas of trees and polluting the air: people can do nothing about the energy fluctuating from the sun in cycles. The former can be addressed rationally (e.g. plant trees, scrubbers on smokestacks) without lies about “Anthropogenic Global Climate Change.”
As Howard Cosell used to say when delivering the truth to an athlete: “You know it, I know it, the fans know it.”
I have written this before: When the weather still cannot be predicted accurately 3 to 5 days in advance,* why would we believe anything about a prediction of the weather in 2030 or 2050?!
* (e.g. We just had an update which is fairly different from two days ago: suddenly the prediction of 3 -5 inches of snow is gone!)
It’s anomalous when compared to the bogus global warming predictions.
The picture of Biden reminds one of what Stalin did to Ukraine during Holodomor. Every bit political evil!
Here in Cleveland, predictions are for 16 to 20 ft. waves on Lake Erie, cresting to 26 ft. Can’t say I’ve ever seen a 26 ft wave.
Well, maybe it’ll freeze at 26 ft high, and you can run out there and get a good look at it!
The leading edge of the storm is causing a really huge temperature difference depending on which side of the edge you’re on. It was 33 when I woke up this morning and 30 when I started work. It is now 0 and very windy.
It’s 17 in Dallas.
Global warming? I think many of the people in the coldest areas wouldn’t mind an increase of 2 degrees. I could give two poops about all of the wealthy people’s houses on the coasts, let them flood. Global warming predicts greater snowfalls. We’re not having a lot of snow with this storm, just bitter cold and high winds. Global warming doesn’t predict that!
Just sharing
Temps this morning in South Dakota Black Hills was -15 with wind chill factor bringing it down to -20 to – 45 Hmmmm. High today is sup
Sorry guys didn’t finish. High today Thursday is supposed to be -3 and that -3 did not last long.
Dear Mr. Biden,
I hope your copter gets caught in that storm. IF you perish, I won’t shed a tear.
Well, of course as long as the pilots, flight crew are okay; otherwise, we dream the same dream. 😂
Geo-Engineering is my guess.
Stay safe everyone.
That’s what I’ve been thinking of too.
Yep, been thinking about that all day — just to screw up Christmas for American Christians, plus everyone who celebrates it!
To me it’s normal winter. This isn’t bad at all compared to other snow and cold I’ve experienced.
Maybe he could take his own advice and “Leave Now!”
No joke!
Retired Magistrate here: Well, here in Delaware County Ohio we have prepared as best we can. We have above ground power lines and a lot of trees; the trees are in fairly good shape, but with the wind, you never know what will come down.
We have wood cut and stacked for our wood burning stove and fireplace, water in the bath tub (we have a well, no power no water), plenty of food, batteries, candles, etc. We have been through this before; however, we are now in our mid 70’s and it gets harder to deal with.
As of right now I am very thankful that we have heat and light; the storm has not hit us yet. We are not predicted to get that much snow but it is the flash freeze that will be a problem. During the blizzard of 78 the temps dropped so fast that my car froze to the driveway and was there all Winter.
So, I will take this time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas now while we still have electricity.
Sounds like you are ready for about everything Marcia.
Stay warm and stay safe back there!
You are well prepared!
Merry Christmas to you as well Marcia!
Merry Christmas Marcia. I always enjoy your homespun stories.
we were at -34 with a windchill of -51 this morning. By Christmas, mid 30’s!
God bless you Marcia, Merry Christmas to you and your family May God take care of you guys.
have a backup generator installed with a transfer switch. you can get small one to run the well, hot water heater and lights (coffee pot too) for about 10K. have a 1000 gallon propane tank and swap out your electric water heater for propane, then you are set. Living in Northern Idaho, a household needs to be self sustaining as possible because there is no “services”, no goober mint help, and the snow plow truck only comes by to smash our mailboxes………except mine is homemade out of 10 gauge steel.
But – but – but Algore said…
He supposedly lives in a mansion in Tennessee. If not for wildlife, pets left outdoors, and people having trouble heating their homes, I would wish brutal cold on his state.
How about a brutal winter storm right above his house?
Hey, I think I’ve got it … power outage at his house only. 🙂
The ONLY good thing that could come out of this brutal existential cold is that the “Green” Agenda would be completely debunked.
Well we may not be able to run an election in Arizona, but on the bright side we certainly don’t need to shovel sunshine.
My sympathies to all residing above north 32 degrees latitude.
At least now we have the technology and computer models to predict what will happen and where. That was not the case in November, 1940, in Wisconsin. A balmy fall day saw a temperature drop and blizzard. After, they found duck hunters frozen, standing in the ice. Others were found on shore huddled under their overturned boats, kept alive by the warmth of their dogs.
https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/wisconsin/worst-blizzard-in-history-wi/
People were so tough back then. Those pictures are amazing.
Speaking of temperature plunge, I wrote elsewhere that it was 33 when I woke up this morning (6am), and 30 when I started work (7:30am). It’s -3 now and the predicted low point will be -12 at 8am tomorrow morning. Here’s an article about other temperature drops, Denver’s is most notable I think. https://www.foxweather.com/extreme-weather/temperature-drops-50-degrees-below-zero-arctic-front-frigid-air
First time we’ve seen Joe in the Oval Office since February 2021! Banner day! I notice there is NOTHING on the desk other than the maps.
Noaa Malarkey, Lying Weatherman.
High of -12° today in northern Iowa. I-80 closed from Des Moines to the Illinois border.
That’s a big deal to close I-80. I was just looking at road cameras, looks nasty there with big patches of snow and ice on the interstate, plus blowing snow.
Am wondering abut the bridge over the river there at the border….
On a good day, I get highway hypnosis on that stretch of 80, towards I-35.
Just north of Houston, at 2p it was 55°, currently (4:30p) it is 37° and projected to be 16° by 5a tomorrow morning.
So . . .
“I’m telling them to leave now . . . It’s not life and death. But it will be if they don’t – if they don’t get out, they may not get out.”
Read that 5 times. Read it again.
Now consider that although the temperature in DC is going to plunge tomorrow afternoon and evening, there will not be snow, or blizzard conditions there. It will rain in the morning. Then the temperature will be low, but not extraordinarily so for a DC winter. The worst that might happen is a flash freeze and an icy parking lot made out of I-95 overnight. That has happened before.
What is he talking about?
Predictive programming?
I truly hope this is just a Biden confusion moment.
Thoughts?
Fear-mongering script.
Right now, I am so grateful to be living in Las Vegas, NV. It is 60 degrees at 2:43 pm and my patio slider is open. I wish for all of you to stay safe and warm. Thank you for also taking care that the animals are protected. This will only be for a short time and then climate change will cause it to get warm again soon. Snuggle in!
I think most of us in the cold areas actually like it. 🙂 I do. I only feel bad for wildlife, pets left outdoors, and people who have trouble heating their homes. For myself I am tolerant of extremely cold temps and even get energized from it. High heat on the other hand turns me into a crazed person. lol
FILTHY LIBERALS tell us that Global Warming is causing this Extreme Cold….
Is this extreme cold a result of the warming of the earth by man made fossil fuels?
Oops!
“ It was so cold (-50°, -70° or worse) that airplanes could not achieve lift. “
Quite the opposite. Density Altitude is beneficial as ambient temperature drops.
As a student pilot in the ‘70’s in Hibbing, MN; the FBO wouldn’t allow students to go out until it warmed up to -10.
After several weekends of ultra cold, they bent the rules to let me go on my short cross-country flight at -13 F. However, it was well past noon when I finally got the okay.
But the days are short in the north and minor complications delayed my last leg home past sunset.
It was an ‘interesting’ way to learn night landings!
I was just thinking about helicopters that do rescues at Mt Everest (obviously not at the top, lol), and I remember reading that when it’s too cold they can’t go up very high. Is that different than what you are describing?
boobs Joe you are never be the my president,
joe is nothing But so far Destroying our country overwhelming.
GLOBAL WARMING, GLOBAL WARMING…….
Won’t get to travel to spend Christmas with my parents now. Another Christmas alone. I suppose I should get used to it.
Oh dear. Maybe move to a warmer climate? I just got a new neighbor from Minnesota and a Canadian on the other side.
There are some other good states that don’t get as cold but still have all four seasons, if you like that.
I always believe Biden when he says “not a joke.” As to transportation, everything will work out fine because mayor Pete is in charge.
Global Warming does not exist. It is just an excuse to reduce world population. In 1970 the Club of Rome “Limits of Growth” argued that to limit population we had to reduce fertilizer production. The Globalist ideology goes back a long way. No amount of freezing will convince the Illuminati that we are at an interglacial period. The countries that keep using oil, gas and producing fertilizer will prosper.
It’s an excuse to force people to buy more stuff from wealthy people, who then pass on bonuses to the politicians who created the policies.
Because of global warming we’re on the verge of being forced to buy EVs and install electric heat and purchase only electric lawn equipment. Some states have already started it, like California with their proclamation that there will be no more gas-powered lawn equipment. (I hope all of the lawn services pack up and move to other states leaving the obnoxious wealthy hypocrites to mow their own dang lawns.)
Notice that there is no reward for just cutting back and using less fuel, and no mandates to cut back, you must purchase new products. Just like Obamacare.
Actually, they want us to rent stuff from wealthy people.
“You’ll own nothing, and be happy.”
A gorgeous day in our part of SoCal. 71 degrees and sunny. 82 degrees projected for Christmas day… No one can spoil this…
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas…with or without snow…
Outside today in Minnesota for hour and a half blowing shoveling 10″ of snow in -7 degrees with 15 mph winds and the sun shining. Not a big deal!
America has lost its blessings. I recall an old preacher saying that the fiery serpents had been in the wilderness all along yet they did not start biting the Children of Israel until they sinned and started complaining against God and about what they had to eat. God had been protecting them before they sinned. God has previously blessed America but what now? Will we get nuked by an angry Bear? or frozen by the cold with now fuel for heat, or blessed by the real rainbow of God’s promise.
Fiery Serpents4 Then they traveled from Mount Hor by the road to the Red Sea,[a] to go around the land of Edom, but the people[b] became impatient along the way. 5 And the people spoke against God and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up from Egypt to die in the wilderness, for there is no bread or water, and we[c] detest this worthless[d] food.”
6 So the Lord sent venomous[e] snakes[f] among the people, and they bit the people; many people of Israel died. 7 Then the people came to Moses and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord that he would take away[g] the snakes from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.
8 The Lord said to Moses, “Make a poisonous snake and set it on a pole. When anyone who is bitten looks[h] at it, he will live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze snake and put it on a pole, so that if a snake had bitten someone, when he looked at the bronze snake he lived.[i]
Check out the window, the leaves are green. Total fraud.
See the photo I posted below. It’s still green in DC.
It’s winter again, gonna get cold, snow and stuff like that….. Don’t bust your ass on the ice.
This a serious winter storm with deadly low temperatures.
I follow “Ryan Hall, Y’all” on YouTube for the latest.
I thought I had no more f’s to give, I was wrong FJB
How can this be? According to the Pedo Sniffer and his administration we’re supposed to be on the verge of annihilation sweating to death due to faux (like the so-called pandemic) man made global warming, climate change or whatever other obscure nonsensical thing the liberal sycophants now call it.
Why is all the leaves you see in the window green? DeCepTion
Interesting! Is that the fake oval office??
Nevermind. It’s still very green there.
I was looking at the dust layer on my Never Summer snowboard and was bummed out I would not be booking a flight to Utah with my brother and cousin this year.
And the diesel shipped to E Wa was not mixed correctly for winter operation and started gelling and plugging filters so tractors could not feed cows and snow plows could not deal with drifts on the roads. Duh! This happened in 2000 at Christmas time. And here your electric vehicles are death traps… read your history, get the diesel recipe right for seasons!
yea I had all kinds of problems this morning at -22F. I keep a container of anti gel around here, but if you dont have a block heater and electricity to run it, it may not start. Our power flickered over a half dozen times today just enough so I had to go around and reset some heaters in the pump houses, cabin and shop. Northern Idaho real close to Canada.
My 2018 diesel GMC truck has had 4 recalls on the engine block heater. Next 7 days in my part of Maine will be cold but still above zero. I lost power for 4 days due to at least foot of heavy wet snow causing trees to fall on power lines..just got it back on Tuesday. Some areas north of me got over 2 feet of that nasty snow. Today it is torrential rains…3″ so far and it’s not done. High winds have caused power outages again today. Flood warnings across the state as streams, roadside culverts, etc are overflowing. My generator and transfer switch are not acting properly and service company is closed until Tuesday. But I am grateful for my old cast iron kitchen stove, burning that evil coal, that is providing me heat and ability to cook food, no matter what the weather does. That’s really all I need. I’m looking forward to church on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day to give thanks, celebrate Jesus’ birth and sing carols.
