Federal education loan payments have been suspended ever since early 2020 when COVID was used as a justification to delay payments. The current extension on the delay, a pre midterm bribe for young adults, runs through June 2023 and then people with the loans have to start paying again.
In the interim, Joe Biden had a plan to relieve up to $10,000 in federal student loans for low-to-middle-income borrowers and up to $20,000 for qualifying Pell Grant recipients. However, that arbitrary Biden decree encountered multiple legal setbacks including rejection by a federal court in St. Louis and another in Texas.

Earlier today, the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals again rejected the Biden administration’s request to pause the Texas order vacating the $400 billion student debt relief program in a lawsuit pursued by a conservative advocacy group. {LINK} The Texas ruling from U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman was one of two decisions that prevented the Department of Education from moving forward.
The St Louis case, also lost on appeal and based on a similar finding that Biden cannot subvert congress for this spending, has now travelled to the Supreme Court who have agreed to hear oral arguments in February but will not intervene to stop the lower court rulings.
Washington — The Supreme Court said Thursday it will take up a court fight between the Biden administration and a coalition of six Republican-led states challenging the legality of the president’s student loan forgiveness program.
Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar asked the Supreme Court last month to lift an injunction from a federal appeals court that blocked implementation of the plan, but told the court that if it denied relief, it should agree to consider the merits of the case instead.
The court said in a brief order that it will hear arguments in February but will keep the program on hold for now. Last week, President Biden extended his pause on federal student loan payments until June 30, 2023, to give the court time to consider the dispute.
“We welcome the Supreme Court’s decision to hear the case on our student debt relief plan for middle- and working-class borrowers this February,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. “This program is necessary to help over 40 million eligible Americans struggling under the burden of student loan debt recover from the pandemic and move forward with their lives. The program is also legal, supported by careful analysis from administration lawyers.” (more)
In response to the decision from the Texas court, the Biden administration announced it had stopped accepting applications for the debt relief program.

Of course, Biden is out of his tree, personally and Constitutionally.
However, a lot of banks and colleges should be viewed as participating scammers (I’m being nice) in this college finance fiasco.
Yep, and the banks who were charging MORE than the fed interest rate are in for an awakening.
Bets on the deeply corrupt SC upholding pedo biden’s edict?
This may be one time that the lower court cases will be radioactive enough that the SC will not overturn them, since it’s pretty much cut and dried separation of constitutional powers. The SC can quietly walk away from it with little concern over the outrage mob that surely will arise.
First line of this article–
Federal loan education payments–
Has nothing to do with banks. It is a Government Program.
The banks who charged extra did so because the fed wasn’t backing them up. It’s an actuary thing vs. a scan.
Those loans are for kids at universities that don’t or never did participate in the federal student loan program.
These are NOT bank loans.
Banks stopped giving out student around 2008.
See youtube video where around 2019 or so Maxine Waters during a hearing tried to “grill” Bank CEOs about what they wuere going to do about student loans.
It is a hilarious video! She was the Chairman of the Finance Committee which makes it even worse.
It is definitely worth watching.
School loans are another GOVERNMENT program failure. And people think they are “shafting” Banks.
No –this is taxpayers funded program.
These are taxpayer funded loans, not banks or colleges.
Yup!
First line of this article—
Federal loan education payment…
😆
The banks haven’t been doling out loans for over a decade. It’s the commie universities that need to pay us all back.
Oh King Joey, won’t you at least buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
The uptown folks drive Porsches, they must make amends.
Worked hard watching Oprah most of my lifetime, no help from my friends,
So King Joey, won’t you at least buy me a Mercedes Benz ?
Oh King Joey, won’t you buy me a health care plan?
Working to pay for it myself is too hard on me.
I want to get prescription drugs and a doctor for free,
So King Joey, won’t you buy me a health care plan ?
Oh King Joey, won’t you buy me a retirement on the town ?
Prove that you’ll take care of me and buy my next round.
Oh King Joey won’t you buy me that big house down the block that I found?
I’m counting on you, King Joey, please don’t let me down.
(now another verse is needed)
You win the internet today! Outstanding.
Kinda reminds me of Janis Joplin and the holding company.
Reminds me a lot of a song by Jimmy Hendrix actually.
My son has students loans. Guess what he pays them back. He is the comptroller of a major company. You can’t get nothing for free. Free costs someone else.
I as a single parent took out student loans for my daughter’s college education.
It took me approximately 8-10 years to pay it off. They worked and
paid for housing and food with many $$$ contributions from me LOL
I paid for tuition and books and helped out elsewhere where I could.
I was a sales agent with territories in both the areas they went to college in.
Every week I would be in one or another’s area and take them and their
friends to a cheap spaghetti restaurant. Then I would take them to the
grocery store and they learned to dig in the store box for coupons.
I also went with them for the first time to Aldi’s. Good times!
btw, they were a year apart and were in college mostly at the same time.
No support from ex. I raised my daughters basically by myself and it
was the best of times, then came my five grandchildren and they are
all the best of times also. Very blessed – I look back on the rough times
and now realize how strong it made me. I thank God every day.
I thumb my nose at all the whiners who think children from a single
parent home are doomed for failure.
Oh King Joey, wont you care for me from cradle to grave?
If you will pay for everything then think of all the money I’ll save!
It’s the finest of foods, the best designer clothes and luxurious surroundings I crave,
So give it all to me for free King Joey, and then you might become my fave..
Excellent !
😁
No, another verse is not needed.
Another song, one of joy perhaps.
It will be made a tax.
Worked okay last time.
and you can keep the job yout degree and loan got you…
The interest charges if the loan payments are not made on time is huge. King Joey didn’t look before he leaped!
Middle Income is getting it, yea, I don’t think so.
They hate the middle, both sides.
When are we getting our own side?
It’s called MAGA.
As long as the emergency continues can the ‘pause’ continue, regardless of what happens to the forgiveness part? If so, well we’re on the cusp of three years into this ’emergency’ with no end in sight.
They’re pretending there is a Constitution, in the end they will do what they want. It’ll seem all legal, next.
Biden should be personally sued for a color of law violation and when he loses the suit he should be criminally charged with the crime.
The Supreme Court is in no position to rule on this blatantly flagrant abuse of the law.
Supreme court could reword it.
The old Machiavellian principle of buying allegiance of the people with money in this case OPM/other peoples money. The promise of $400 billion buys a lot of votes. If you check how college/university students voted it’s said 95% voted for the DemocRats not to mention all the people out there that still owed on their old student loans. The promise of 10 grand per person buys a lot of votes.
Gee could that promise of $400 billion be responsible blocking part of the red wave?
Not by itself.
It sure does make for effective chaff and/or countermeasures as it is takes attention away from the ballot fraud mechanisms identified to date.
This is small beans compared to all those floating ballots that magically appear anytime Uniparty candidates need them for an election.
Every little bit of fraud hurts, it’s cumulative, in the end everything adds up to massive fraud. The fraudsters hit on many fronts
We need a change of strategy to combat it.
Incidentally reminds me some of the theory behind maneuver warfare.
Isn’t there some way we can print up our own ballots and flood the elections with so many ballots that they have no way of not counting them? Let’s have our own conservative drop boxes in designated secret locations and “dump” them at the poll centers at the last minute, even days after the election, like the dirty Dems do. Of course this is illegal but the leftists are doing it right in front of our faces AND getting away with it—-no real justice being served. Turn about is fair play!! Don’t laugh, we have to think out of the box they have put us in.
Okay, begin piling-on…..one two three…
We surely have as many white vans and semi trucks to deliver them in the early morning hours as the Leftists do, don’t we? Let’s blow THEM out of the water in which they have become so comfortable!!
In the War for Independence, troop attack maneuvers had to be changed or we would have lost our battle to King George.
Oh, and bypass the US Postal Service; the Leftist’s well funded best buds!!
Of course I would never or do anything like what I’ve suggested, honestly, I never would, I swear, on King Biden’s honor I wouldn’t!!
You’ve got to believe me…even if it’s for the children.
If they succeed in stealing the Georgia senate seat from Walker what are the odds the first thing they do is pack the court ?
Heard Senator Ted Cruz lay out the agenda if they win. That was definitely one of the things he mentioned. Screw the filibuster.
Well, they won’t get anything past the House, hopefully
Walker will not win. You can take that to the bank.
Don’t be so damn sure of that!
You have a Crystal ball?
Who needs a Crystal Ball? Look at Arizona and Pa.
Everything Biden does is UNCONSTITUTIONAL .
Stands to reason, since his whole pretending to be President is unconstitutional.
Approximately 23 million “applications” recieved. Probably translates into about that many votes. Red wave snuffed out. Now the mean republican congress denies these poor students their right to debt forgiveness. Outsmarted again by the demotards
There exactly ZERO merit to me in anyway paying for somebody else’s kid’s beer and dope money while they’re getting woke through gender studies bs.
“….agrees to hear case in February.” Don’t you just love how the entire federal government has such a sense of urgency about absolutely nothing?
You literally can’t make this up. I’m sorry, but I didn’t sign up to pay for your gender studies undergraduate degree with a minor in urban studies.
Mean while the “Get Trump” appeals court continues…..
https://www.cnbc.com/2022/12/01/appeals-court-vacates-order-appointing-trump-mar-a-lago-search-warrant-watchdog.html
Judicial system totally corrupt.
This case is about the resident-occupied White House versus the U.S. Constitution.
“The current extension on the delay, a pre midterm bribe for young adults, runs through June 2023 and then people with the loans have to start paying again.”
And that’s about the time inflation peaks, and they will be less able to pay! There will a lot of woke, broke people!
That is exactly what I thought.
The economy is getting worse. Bad time for the kiddies to get this reality check.
I think it will be a good time.
When I graduated in the mid-70’s I had a very large loan for the time, and jobs were scarce during the first “stagflation.”
I took a secretarial job despite my fancy degree, and paid back every penny myself over the 10 years of the loan. I still remember filling out those monthly slips in the booklet that the bank provided.
I was very proud when I sent in my last one…
So was I. That loan was like a huge weight but I paid it back.
It was never expected to pass Constitutional muster. It was just another scheme to get votes.
It’s absurd for ‘Biden’ to claim that a measure passed by Congress twenty years ago, on behalf of returning Iraq war veterans, can be invoked now to ‘authorize’ nearly $500 billion of spending by presidential decree.
The Constitution is crystal clear in Article I, Section 9: ‘No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law.’
‘Biden’ has usurped the appropriations authority of Congress. Not only should his invalid executive order be struck down, but also he should be impeached for abuse of power. FJB.
Absolutely.
Congress will not contest it, either. They abrogated most of their Constitutional authority to the Executive Branch (and some to the Judicial branch, too) over the past few decades.
There should be a long line of charges already against him. They’d have to go to the back of the queue.
They fix elections, this isn’t a problem. Just playing at it a bit, then they’ll declare, we told you he had the right.
The SC is completely politicized…I have no faith in them whatsoever….who cares what they decide? The left doesn’t and at this point the right doesn’t…so why do they even exist? A total sham just like the rest of the judicial system…total corruption of entire government…Roberts will will down in history, I mean the real history not the corrupt history, as the worst Chief Justice the court has ever endured.
Realistically the whole system is a facade.
Yes. We are witnessing the complete collapse of the USA.
and it is about time we realized that, quit making excuses for them and determine
what to do about all this
“Politics or not,” decisions such as this one are strictly Legislative in nature. Yes, the Congress has the power to do such things, and the Executive may either sign them or veto them. But the Executive can do no more.
Meanwhile – the Congress should be asking hard questions now about the Dodd-Frank legislation, which created SLABS = Student-Loan Asset Backed Securities. And which prohibited the young debtors from discharging their “debts” in bankruptcy. This was, very simply, a replacement for: “sub-prime = worthless” home mortgages.
In 1984, my baccalaureate degree (out of state) cost a benevolent candy company $13,000. Today, the same degree from the same public university costs $300,000. Foul ball! Time out! Exactly how does the physical plant of a “college” materially differ from that of a “high school?” It does not. We are very-simply burdening our earnest young college students with hopeless debts in order to provide wall-street speculators with a “tranche!” With something they can “securetize!”
In the 70’s, EE degree at a state uni was 150 bucks a semester plus books. Easily paid for with a summer job, in cash. That’s a BS in engineering. IMO, what has happened is a profit scheme between the banks and universities underwritten by the government. Collusion at its best.
It’s what happens when those in government make money off the laws they pass to benefit those in the private sector who kick back money to those in power.
It’s like Ukraine but sneakier. Well, Ukraine was pretty sneaky until Frizzy Friedman dropped the ball.
Sundane will likely have a post up soon about the Special Master For Mar-a-Lago Documents Case being thrown out.
So the so-called DOJ gets to be both participant and judge in disputes.
Judiciary is totally corrupt.
“There are no Obama judges or Clinton judges, just justices trying to do their best to interpret the law to the best of their ability”, so says Chief Justice John Roberts. Typical ideals of a RINO Chief Justice.
So as a responsible person we started saving for our children’s education from the time they were born even though we really couldn’t afford to, especially the first get some compensation also.
What about all that all that worked there way thru college and those that paid off there loans, how can this be legal to bill my family for what others wouldn’t do for themselves.
Should be a blue collar class action suit if upheld.
While I was grunting away at a cottonseed plant to pay for college driving an old beater, I watched the welfare Cadillacs and the apparently easy life and went, hmm, what was I doing wrong? Back then I knew little of the underground economy and government ‘benefits’. Life taught lessons.
There’s always are going to be those who play the game better; the work is being satisfied with one’s own path in life. Back in college days, there were ‘better connected’ students who got grants and scholarships and could skip the hot sweaty work in agriculture to pay for school. That’s OK. That’s how society works. It might not be fair but life, in general, is anything but fair. It’s war, then we die.
this is the scam
baby mama’s have children, welfare pays for everything
boyfriends never marry baby mama and work part time, hardly
ever or never. They spend their money on nice cars, drugs,
alcohol, stereo equipment and cell phones.
Trust me; I know this from personal experience working
in a management position in a manufacturing company.
These guys would show up Tues/Wed/Thurs. They were
somewhere between 20 and 30 in age. We had a plant
meeting once and I asked them what they wanted to hear
from management. These two day off a week guys
asked when we were going to install a retirement plan.
No kidding.
Amjean: I, too, have experienced the phenomenon of which you write, first hand. The “mother” would stay employed long enough to qualify for all the “free” government assistance (“earned” with the help and support of the employer), and then…gone. Out the door, never to be heard from again.
I worked with a guy whose daughter busted her butt—worked throughout HS. He served in Airforce. She went to college, Community College first, while working to pay her way. She had to drop out because it became too burdensome.
Meanwhile, his daughter’s good friend- got knocked up. The state of CT then went on to pay for her good friend’s apartment, her college, food stamps, and welfare. The hard-working girl who made the right choices struggled and failed under the wight of trying to pay her way and her friends (because taxes are taken from the hardworking girl’s paycheck to fund the BS programs).
Supreme Court Justices that have children are probably compromised. Can you say “Deep State” leverage?
Just a thought that crossed my mind.
They all went to college on full scholarships!
Since the DemonicRats currently control all 3 branches, why don’t they just pass legislation?
Even with fillibuster and 60+ votes, etc. there are plenty of RepubliCons that would vote in line to give JoeBama this win.
What am I missing?
They can keep the emergency, and issues like this, alive for a rallying cry until the next election. Watch it happen. 🙂
Why is SCOTUS hearing this case at all?? There are no merits to this case(other than vote buying for Dems). You borrow money from the taxpayers, and you agree to pay it back. Period. What if Biden decided to stop paying interest to Government bondholders and divert those payments for slave reparations. The power of the purse resides with the Legislature. Period.
Probably to interpret it into legality.
In the federal government of the United States, the power of the purse is vested in the Congress as laid down in the Constitution of the United States, Article I, Section 9, Clause 7 (the Appropriations Clause) and Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 (the Taxing and Spending Clause).
Deferred interest. These ppl are screwed if Biden doesn’t pony up.
These people are screwed because they owe a pile of money they can never pay back with their worthless degrees.
Supreme Court who must be aware of the current political division in the country just gave corrupt lawfare politicians Trumps Tax Returns.
Fix Is In
I’d like to see a campain of shaming the crap out of anyone who accepts student loan relief. Plaster their pics all of anti-social media with DEADBEAT across their images. Point and spit.
Obviously you haven’t noticed that shame is a thing of the past.
Strangely, it is good news stories like this that make the stolen, incompetent, corrupted Arizona election even harder to bare. Kari Lake would have been another fabulous GOP governor who would have also helped lead the nation on some important issues. Abe Hamadeh as A/G would also have been a great addition to the various legal battles.
Given the traitorous RNC and the suspect judges in Arizona, this will likely not change via the courts.
although i’d likely be a ‘beneficiary’ of this scam, i’d rather not burden my fellow Americans with my paltry 5k worth of debt. I’ll pay that on my own like the rest of it.
Biden doesn’t care. He gets to use it as a campaign vote buying scam in 2024 now.
Just stop it. One day the big elephant in the room needs to be exposed. Please tell me why everything happening is based around a Biden Talmudic Jewish construct. This denial of Christ has got to stop.
I believe in God the Father Almighty creator of Heaven and Earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord.
Christie Eleison.
The antichrist has an understanding with those who have forsaken the covenant.
We’re not talking about Christians here.
These people are downright crazy..
What about the people that paid for their education and did in full, because they were responsible…???
They are in the same boat as the legal immigrants who worked hard, got in line, and went through the process to become our citizens, only to watch all the line jumpers flood in.
This has been a huge win for Biden. He received the full benefit of offering this bribe which was only shot down by the courts until after the election. How many extra votes did this bring in for the democrats? Student loan forgiveness would have been a huge motivating factor for millions of voters who stood to gain tens of thousands of dollars in free money!
If the supreme court rejects student loan cancellation then it will then fall to congress to pass it into law which will not happen because the republicans control congress which means it will become a political issue in the 2024 election as the democrats will be able to blame the republicans for not passing student loan forgiveness.
Shame on SCOTUS for taking this case while ignoring the fact that biden and crew stole the 2020 election.
The money to forgive these government loans was never appropriated by Congress. Biden’s exec order is in blatant violation of the separation of powers and is unconstitutional. If allowed to stand a president, any president, could just decree spending without any Congressional input or vote. In essence creating a dictatorship. I’m surprised the Supreme Court even agreed to hear this case.
sato422: Good comment and absolutely true.
Should have made a deal, forgive every dollar of student loans, in exchange for government getting out of the school loan business for good.
As so many others have noted the primary intent was to buy votes by promising free stuff. It worked.
The side benefit for DemocRats is the potential for yet more SCOTUS mau mauing by the lunatic left. Win-win for the bad guys as usual.
Why don’t they pass this in congress and the senate. It’s not like they have not passed other handouts like the “Stoke up Inflation More” act and the “Break it down better act” Is this just to make a good story “We really tried to forgive your student loans, but the evil Republican court blocked us – boohoo!” Feels like a show to me.
The year bush gave everyone $300 I paid off the balance of my student loan in full.
The next year the irs gave my refund to the student loan folks to cover the loan I had already paid back the previous year.
I tried to contact the loan holder to show them the proof that they made a mistake.
But my debt was bundled and sold so many times through the years that even the irs couldn’t tell me who they seized my refund for.
Just that it was still on the books.
There was nothing I could do to fix it.
That’s when I upped my deductions so at the end of the year I just write a $10 check to the irs.
No more refund checks for me.
No more interest free money for them.
FJB should’ve insisted on the student debt jubilee being included in the Covid windfall act.
Thats how you give away money legally, Joe.
How stupid is FJB?
Put your money on Biden. The Supremes are giving people. It is only money after all.
The hapless complicit GOPe fails here. The lawsuit should be against O’Biden for illegally bribing voters. The laws against it do not differentiate between a promise of enrichment or the actual transfer of bribe.
Meanwhile college’s are making bank and they don’t share. With hundreds of billions of dollars in their endowments why can’t they show a little compassion for these students? I guess we all know the answer to that.

Is there another dirty little secret here? When the student loans are not repaid on time, interest charges are added every month. Has Biden suspended the interest charges on those unpaid loans for students who are waiting for the 10,000 dollar “forgiveness?” Hmmmmmm?
Expensive Daycare.
Drop out rate? 40%?
Quid Pro Joe got what he wanted, a bunch of communists voting for “free” stuff. Now they can drag it out and blame the red states for their own ill-fated, blatantly illegal maneuvers.
I went to college years ago, took out a small student loan. I repaid that loan and would have NEVER thought of stiffing taxpayers for my responsibility! This ‘loan forgiveness’ is just plain WRONG! And IMHO unconstitutional.
