At a time when/if the economy was functioning as most economic pundits have previously proclaimed, Amazon and other retail giants would normally be beefing up workers in anticipation of the holiday shopping season. However, with the midterm election in the rearview mirror, exactly the opposite is happening. {Backstory on prior employment announcements}
According to multiple media reports, Amazon is expected to announce layoffs for approximately 10,000 U.S. workers this week. Yet another indication the economic pretending is coming to an end right after the midterm election is concluded.
(CNBC) – Amazon is planning to lay off approximately 10,000 employees in corporate and technology roles beginning this week, according to a report from The New York Times. Separately, The Wall Street Journal also cited a source saying the company plans to lay off thousands of employees.
Shares of Amazon closed down about 2% on Monday.
The cuts would be the largest in the company’s history and would primarily impact Amazon’s devices organization, retail division and human resources, according to the report. The reported layoffs would represent less than 1% of Amazon’s global workforce and 3% of its corporate employees. (read more)
“Bye”
As previously noted by Yahoo News, a “wave of layoffs” has begun that encompasses dozens of medium and large corporations [SEE HERE].
The layoffs, outlined in Yahoo, cover real estate, tech companies, banking, finance, automakers, EV startups, and brick and mortar stores like 7-11 and GAP. It should not come as a surprise, but it is sad to see, nonetheless.
Within the economy, a great pretending can only last so long… then reality hits.
The skilled trades should likely end up in the best employment situation, with the tech sector the worst. Service industries are also one of the first sectors hit when employment becomes an issue.
With rising interest rates, high inflation, excessive inventories, a shrinking production economy, extreme energy costs and diminished disposable income as a result of inflation and gas prices, there was going to come a time when it all starts to congregate.
2023 looks to be the year when economic pretenses collapse under the weight of having to admit a recession exists.
This is shaping up to be a painful holiday season….
What a coincidence. Right after the mid terms. Major woke companies all in sync. Everything is political. Every damned thing.
Great reset has begun. Klas anal Schwab is in Bali, wearing a Mao borong. What with these elites hanging out in high class resorts to impliment global destruction?
I enjoy their timing of layoffs after the midterms. They were all so happy that the Bad Orange Man embarrassed himself because of his red trickle and now, less than a week later they are losing their jobs. Talk about an emotional roller coaster! How can you laugh at PDJT’s announcement while crying about your job loss?
There’s a lesson in this release for those dems and liberals being dismissed, if they have the wit to learn it.
“Everything is political. Every damned thing.”
Totally. As in totalitarian.
And politics requires no merit:
“The principle feature of American liberalism is sanctimoniousness. By loudly denouncing all bad things – war and hunger and date rape – liberals testify to their own terrific goodness. More important, they promote themselves to membership in a self-selecting elite of those who care deeply about such things… It’s a kind of natural aristocracy, and the wonderful thing about this aristocracy is that you don’t have to be brave, smart, strong or even lucky to join it, you just have to be liberal.”–P.J. O’Rourke
Liberalism is moral syphilis.
Gipper, since you leave an outstanding quote from the late, lamented PJ O’Rourke, may I add another?
“At the core of liberalism
is the spoiled child– miserable, as all spoiled children are, unsatisfied, demanding, ill-disciplined, despotic, and useless. Liberalism is a philosophy of sniveling brats.”
Loved that man and his humor! RIP, PJ.
Betsy:
One trope that drags us down is the liberal trope that the world moves only one way.
We only progress.
Both liberals and conservatives share this intense bias.
We are now degrading rapidly in the hands of fascists, but liberals and conservatives insist in seeing progress.
The leftists share no such bias.
They are intent on dragging us back to medieval feudalism. Climate change is the excuse for this revolutionary degradation.
A few rich will rule the peasants, and monsters like AOC see themselves as the new feudal overlords.
But the American revolution, the enlightenment has produced middle-class people unable to recognize the threat.
One has to wonder how many of those being let go, if any, will be brought back on as a contractor in order to get rid of the expense of the employee benefit packages.
There is a certain threshold that must be met to hire someone as a “contractor”. They can’t do it. The contractors they hire get employee benefits with their contracts. Otherwise every company in the world would move their entire staff to contractor status.
It depends on the contract. If someone is hired through an agency, then the agency offers the benefits, and as someone who has had to work as a contractor since “two weeks to flatten the curve”, I can tell you that the benefits offered by agencies generally suck compared to what you get as a full time employee working direct.
No more middle-class health care thanks to unAffordable Care Act. But no health care is maybe better per Pharma homicidalists.
Find a Direct Primary Care practice near you, membership model, each family member pays a monthly fee (i.e., $125/adult, $35/child), unlimited doctor visits, home visits, telehealth, set broken bones, meds and labs at wholesale, stitching lacerations, etc, INCLUDED IN THE MEMBERSHIP. No insurance accepted.
Then, you get a cheap major medical policy to cover the biggies like heart attack, etc.
It’s the future of medicine, IMO. See Dr. Josh Umbehr on YT.
I was a contractor for a global software company, and I got zero benefits.
Sub contractors. Only the contractor incurs the expense. And they don’t have to offer benefits. Right to work is not right to benefits. Ben there done that.
Temp workers almost never get benefits, or are let go the day before they’d be eligible. It’s an entire industry. It’s called “staffing” and it is predatory wage slavery top to bottom.
Yes, the Staffing Agency gets all the perks and benefits, not their Temp Hires.
indeed…when I was young and between jobs I tempted. NO benefits. Also I was paid $12 an hour and the temp agency billed the employer $21 an hour.
I have been contracting for 30 plus years. I bill about $1000 to $1500 a day for highly specialized work. I cover all of my own benefits and insurance. Sounds like a lot but 8 to 10 billable days a month is full time.
I saw an article yesterday…can’t remember where…Amazon is investing heavily in robots.
The human cost of technology.
I hope the robots fall apart in a few months and no Human being can fix them.
I hope they replace all the useless Dem voters.
Thanks
You made my robot girlfriend cry.
Blowup I presume!?
Blow up!
You mean like an electric vehicle?
Oh dear!
Oh no, no blow ups. They now have robotic girlfriends. Just as the Chinese and Japanese. They are very compliant with whatever physical characteristics desired.
They have to hire techs to program and maintain them. A year from now they’ll scuttle them in a warehouse.
Hehe
I’m sure those robots are able to be hacked.
Wait for it
“In 2012, Amazon spent $775 million to purchase a young robotics company called Kiva Systems that gave it ownership over a new breed of mobile robots that could carry shelves of products from worker to worker, reading barcodes on the ground for directions along the way.
But it also gave Amazon the technical foundation on which it could build new versions of warehouse robotics for years to come, setting the stage for a potential future where the only people inside Amazon’s facilities are those employed to maintain and fix their robotic replacements.“

Dec 11, 2019 article
2019, meet 2023! Amazon will be looking to sell Kiva Systems pretty soon. No orders, equals no demand–whether human or robot.
Leave it to you, Patience to supply this interesting snippet. More power to you, girl. You’re a star!
Bad Betsy Jones. You assumed the pronouns for Patience. The NEA and the FBI will be at your door soon /s
Well I don’t think….oh wait a minute….I’ll have to run…there’s a knock at the door…
Be careful, instead of woke punks they might be robots 😉
😁!
Why not.
They can vote with a digital signature.
Well, we all are being replaced. Why not indeed.
ya mean drone deliveries
And the rest…like stocking and loading orders, and….
I think California past a law that went into affect last year – no more contractors, all have to be employees, with benefits. Even hit the truck drivers and the Uber/Lyft drivers, and newspaper columnists that were paid by the column, all have to be on payrolls now.
Makes a person wonder – do those laid off in California move to employer friendly States (right to work states, non-union) or do they stay and finally do something about their wok politicians?
Neither.
I agree, puzzled. They will do neither as long as they can apply for and receive “being on the dole” benefits.
States like CA have cracked down on gig workers, and 1099 employees. That used to be a good option, but not so much these days.
How many of them support Democrats? I’m guessing the vast majority. They are getting exactly what they say they want.
Bet they didn’t realize they are the carbon their lords want to eliminate.
Tough lesson.
Hope they learn it soon.
How will the msm cover the Amazon layoffs vs the twitter layoffs? Hmmmm
JimboCT: “Grateful Amazon employees cheer Bezos for extended holiday.”
Especially with an African-American business owner 🤗😁🤔. ??? Remember Elon was born in South Africa.
Only difference is a new owner (Bluebird) and an existing owner (Amazon). Two billionaires, with their toys🤔🤔
In Michigan, we call this “The Granholm Effect”… She destroyed the state in her two terms, manufacturing, skilled trades, automotive, etc… Now it will be nationwide for the most part. Trust me on this, it will not be fun.
Left S.E Mi in 1985 it was pretty much gone then. 1 Job 1500 applications.
I’m getting ready to make my move… Don’t know where to go, first step is to change my state citizenship, taxes and possible gun confiscations coming soon to Michigan.
I see a red wave coming just like Fox News told me.
My rubber duckie fleet sits in the tmpty tub, awaiting the flood.
I am waiting for the skilled wordsmiths on the left to explain how these lay-offs are due to President Trump and the Republicans.
In 3 – 2 – 1….
It’s Trump’s Fault!
They can be as skilled as they desire in using their words, but the above is where they end up. Every time.
Explanation is simple, really, even for the lefty wordsmiths. If Trump didn’t work to make the economy so damn prosperous then we wouldn’t be feeling all this loss. Just a matter of prospective.
They’re going to claim that Republicans taking the House caused a lack of faith in the future of the economy which resulted in the layoffs.
Theyll just nail Trump. I havent heard any criticism of the McFailures by the left at all regarding the bad showing from the election.
“Trump’s Red Wave Caused These Layoffs!”
“If Trumpty Dumpty hadn’t won so many seats in Congress because of his red tsunami these layoffs wouldn’t have happened!”
“The only thing Trump can win is midterm elections but he causes you to lose your job.”
“It only took one week from the Trump-caused red wave to destroy the job market. Dump Trump. He is toxic.”
Tell you what, I waited in a 30 minute line to mail some packages at a UPS store. There was a long line behind me as well. People were hot, tired, and the service was good, but there are so many steps to sending a package in person, especially if you need a box.
One size box doesn’t fit, the next size up is too big, add some packaging, put 6 pieces of tape on in, the old guy types in the address, do I want to insure it, yes, he’s slowly typing in my return address. Then processing the payment.
The woman in front of me had about 10 packages, and she took about 30 minutes to complete her tasks.
As much as I hate it, Amazon, is looking better and better.
PS. Half the people in line were doing “amazon returns.”
True
😂
Don’t know about that.
This is within last year…
I received wrong item. Notified them…they sent me a barcode that I printed out and emailed me verification.
All I had to do is go to the front of the UPS store -outside-and hand the package off to them.
I received my credit within 24 hrs. I no longer have Amazon Prime—just that sometimes that is the only place to find a particular item. And I still have my Kindle!
It’s a shame that Amazon went “woke”. Really sad.
I use Amazon to find the product and read the reviews, then I order the product directly from its manufacturer, cutting out Amazon.
I’ve tried that, except then you get shafted on the shipping and handling costs. I don’t want to pay $10 shipping on a $20 item.
Consider creating an account on the USPS web site. You could then print shipping labels right from the site and USPS will pick up your package for free, from your front door. The only downside to the site is priority or express mail only, no first class.
That isn’t correct. I have requested front door pickup on first class items often and USPS picks up no problem.
But you cannot purchase first class postage at USPS online. No media mail, either. Only priority and express.
You can do the same with UPS.
I hope that they ALL go down the tubes.
MOUNTAIN VIEW — Search giant Google has agreed to a $391.5 million settlement with 40 states to resolve an investigation into how the company tracked users’ locations, state attorneys general announced Monday.
The states’ investigation was sparked by a 2018 Associated Press story, which found that Google continued to track people’s location data even after they opted out of such tracking by disabling a feature the company called “location history.”
The attorneys general called the settlement a historic win for consumers, and the largest multistate settlement in U.S history dealing with privacy.
It comes at a time of mounting unease over privacy and surveillance by tech companies that has drawn growing outrage from politicians and scrutiny by regulators. The Supreme Court’s ruling in June ending the constitutional protections for abortion raised potential privacy concerns for women seeking the procedure or related information online.
“This $391.5 million settlement is a historic win for consumers in an era of increasing reliance on technology,” Connecticut Attorney General William Tong said in a statement. “Location data is among the most sensitive and valuable personal information Google collects, and there are so many reasons why a consumer may opt-out of tracking.”
Google, based in Mountain View, said it fixed the problems several years ago.
“Consistent with improvements we’ve made in recent years, we have settled this investigation, which was based on outdated product policies that we changed years ago,” company spokesperson Jose Castaneda said in a statement.
Location tracking can help tech companies sell digital ads to marketers looking to connect with consumers within their vicinity. It’s another tool in a data-gathering toolkit that generates more than $200 billion in annual ad revenue for Google, accounting for most of the profits pouring into the coffers of its corporate parent, Alphabet — which has a market value of $1.2 trillion.
In its 2018 story, The AP reported that many Google services on Android devices and iPhones store users’ location data even if they’ve used a privacy setting that says it will prevent Google from doing so. Computer-science researchers at Princeton confirmed these findings at the AP’s request.
Storing such data carries privacy risks and has been used by police to determine the location of suspects.
All the plaintiffs will get .99
Along with how to report this income to the IRS.
Failure to declare it on your tax form will result in an audit.
That is all.
….along with the lawyas business card.
Why is no one going to jail for stuff like this????
Because we now live in The Twilight Zone.
“It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.”
The alphabet agencies fund Alphabet so it’s a transfer of federal taxpayer money to the states. Google is happy to facilitate.
Jeff Landry, Louisana AG know the Constitution backwards and forward and furthermore he USES it! Love it!
I use the Brave browser, a privacy-enhanced version of Chrome. Frequently when visiting websites, I get a pop-up saying “this website wants to know your location until you leave the website”, with allow and deny options.
What you posted above suggets this option is eyewash, and that tracking is always on all the time.
I also use Brave on Linux Mint, it is funny that despite always saying that I decline location tracking and while using PIA vpn service, they sometimes still find my exact location anyway.
Makes me wonder how/where they find out, my VPN should report me anywhere but this state.
My ISP home base is in another state and sometimes that is where they call my location but somewhere / someone must recognize my ??? router ??? IDK… it freaky to me when they nail my location.
Clear all the cookies again that should have either been session only or at least on this machine cleared every time I close brave.
It’s hard to imagine how many people they have a microscope into as it is hard for me to keep spying eyes out and I am quite knowledgeable about technology.
Note banking and finance.
When the defaults kick into high gear in all sectors of loans (credit), the reserve requirements will not be high enough for the banking and finance industry to extend credit to corporations and fund construction.
That’s when the real pain starts. It’s one thing for the stock market to collapse but a whole different world or hurt when the credit markets freeze.
And then the potential of the lenders calling in their loans when most will not be able to service the balance of the debt.
You will own nothing and be happy!
…and this is why debt is poison, especially in uncertain times.
Now would be a good time to pay down debt as much as possible, and maybe put away tangible goods for trading (shelf stable food, liquor, junk silver, hand tools, food seeds, ammo), and convert at least some of your savings into physical (as in – in hand) precious metals.
Got off the credit merry-go-round 20+ years ago, second best decision I ever made (marrying wife, first).
EXTRA ammo, not AS ammo, but as a hedge against inflation now, and an alternative currency, when the $ collapses.
I too, in 2000 decided to get off the merry-go-round of monthly credit card payments. I had 2 cards, consolidated them into the one that had the least interest payments, sucked it up and paid it in full. Ever since then, I always pay off the balance every month. I rarely use the credit card. And certainly not for groceries or utilities.
Being free from corporate debt is real FREEDOM.
I understand that there are some citizens who are behind “the eight ball” financially. Trust me, the Dems are not your friends, they are keeping you in the mire of debt.
I have done all of that and then some just as you Dutchman suggest. and agree with you on a personal scale. Great advice on an individual scales.
What I’m talking about is imploding the economy by existing businesses and business ventures to not have access to capital to create jobs and avoid a complete economic collapse on Main Street.
Anybody who incurred debt during the Trump boom thinking that the good times were here to stay is majorly screwed now.
There are people who continue to pile on debt because “they can afford the payment”. I used to ask those people how much profit do they make every month. They looked at me with great confusion. So, I asked them, “After you make payments to everyone to whom you owe money how much to you get to put into your sock drawer? That is how much you make. You are working to put money into their pockets. You keep what’s left over.”
So, all is normal, and heading to great?
Amazon has been eating everyone’s lunch, by underwriting their retail business with their massive web hosting business. If they are laying off, there’s some bad times ahead.
and the bulk of their cloud service revenue comes from US government agencies. Easy way to launder money – “see, look at all those bits moving all over the internet. Very complicated business doncha know”. Basically, we taxpayers are funding Amazon to eliminate competition while they corner the parcel shipping industry in America.
All of this hidden until after the midterms conclude…
After the Slow walk on a few state races, then even bigger shutdowns coming…
Even they can’t beat the impact of their own financial misrepresentations…
We need a miracle at this point.!.
These scumbags waited until after the midterms. Gee thanks Jeff.
Same strategy that delayed the Festerman / Oz debate until AFTER nearly 1 million absentee votes had been mailed in.
Progressives are the most determined thugs we’ve ever seen – exceeding even the would-be Islamist martyrs.
The failure of the Red Wave has brought about the Pink Wave, as in Pink Slips.
I found this to be interesting.

Thank you. Sent it along to family who follow these things and have coworkers they talk with and share hard data with as they all keep moving ahead.
Normal Americans in Oregon find one another, talk, and plan. They are not isolated and they are not hysterical. They don’t spend much time venting any more.
I should have added that the link it to a huge data base tracking layoffs, world wide, big and small, with excellent filtering and fields. Sent to me with high recommendation from a professional friend.
FTX is on that list with lots of information linked. Their last acquisition was Voyager on September of 2022. They bought it for $1.3 billion. It in turn was partially funded by Alameda Research and Digital Currency Group, which has 295 (!) “investments.”The links take you to crunchbase where it looks like you can stroll through the crypto swamp forever.
Future IRS hacks.
They’ll make more feeding of Biden’s largesse of tax payer money.
Until there are no taxpayers to pay the taxes.
Another wake up call but the deaf, dumb and blind will remain so. The bar has been lowered so much I can’t even imagine what people like that would consider rock bottom anymore.
Drip, drip, drip,drip.
Our Christian friend had been praying fervently about leaving Amazon due to excessive overtime interfering with family and church life. He put in his notice, worked hard to find another job, and just started a new role! Thank God he is employed at a better company! God provides!
Screw Amazon, and their stupid delivery driver who just broke my sprinkler head. I might have to go to home depot to get a riser, I just reseeded that spot with bentgrass, oh, I ordered that off Amazon too, dang. Well Bezo’s now owes me some more, that stuff is like five bucks a handful.
Should of put in a cross, of “Kentucky blue grass, featherbed bent, and northern Californian sinsemilla, great thing about is you can play 36 holes on it and then take it home and get stoned to the B-Jesus Belt”
Carl Spagler; Can I get a ruling here?
File a claim
Perhaps AOC
-was in the know !
Nobody is spotlighting the large number of layoffs, but yes, it is going to be sad in some areas of the country and in some employment sectors.
Is the Republican Party ready to recruit these unemployed as our “Ballot Submission Assistants”? We could have a lot in a lot of places, ready to go.
Thank AOC!!!!!!!
What a world. Economic pretending a ballots that are not valid votes.
Yep the fix is in. Trump doen’t know it but any republican campain will just be a kabokee show because of mail in ballots being treated as actual votes . 27 states fixed the midterm elections and 27 will fix the 2024 election again.
Funny, just got an email to apply as an Amazon driver. No $hit.
Well, those who lean right…not that many, relatively, I’d wager, will hopefully land on their feet and do better than they were, elsewhere.
The leftists, they’re getting what they voted for, good and hard.
I’m fresh out of f!cks to give.
The timing. Enterprising young journalists might want to look into it…
Is Mexico, Guatemala or Honduras hiring?

2023 2024 or more is going to be very painful. No one will escape the consequences to some degree of the evil this admin has brought to USA and the economics of the world.
The Great Depression: The economy fell out from under the workforce, like a giant sinkhole.
The people know how to survive and lean on one another.
It’ll be brutal for those who think they’re high and dry — they’ll turn on each other or worse.
Blessed are the meek.
Maybe Dolly will redirect the $100 million he gave her.
Bless their hearts. Perhaps they can learn to “code.”
No heartaches here – the execs are known leftists, and something tells me that many of the drivers and warehouse workers are too disengaged to vote.
Building Back Better, eh, Bezos? You happy with your purchased candidate?
Bring in the floating fat bots. Your replacements work for volts, not bucks.
Just woke up, still nursing coffee. 🤭

Shutting down pipeline construction, selling off our strategic oil reserve to foreign interests, not allowing drilling where we have huge deposits of oil/gas and not giving permits for new refineries/enlarging old ones is all done on purpose by Old Joe and his gang to destroy our economy.
This manmade economic disaster is really going to suck.

Whats his name divorced football player and his crypto laundramat x wife are losing millions not to mention whats his football name lost games. He should have retired and invested in gold or something. Oh ya brady is his name. Crypto laundramat’s wife was actually the spokeswomen for the crypto laundramat and brady did promotional videos for the crypto laundry. Go figure.😳🤨
Won’t affect me. I gave up my Amazon account, including the books I bought on Kindle, about 5 years ago.
Sucks to lose a job though.

Plumbers and electricians, your jobs are secure and very much in demand! Maybe similar for tree trimmers, welders, and some others, who went to Trade Schools and developed skills that all of us, the citizenry, rely on. KUDOS to the real Americans who keep this country functioning for us.
Granted I’m old and it’s been quite a while since my college economics classes, but one rule of employment has never changed. In an economy where mid to higher paying jobs are lost, there are 3 service sector jobs lost that go unreported. Unemployed people don’t go to restaurants or spend a lot of money at places other than grocery stores. Oil changes can wait, clothes can be worn longer etc. When there’s little or zero disposable income, what income there is only goes to the bare necessities. Come January/February, things will likely start looking much worse than they do right now.
Yep the depression is on the way. Thats why I ordered a vaccum pump for mason jars and have sealed up about 15 quarts of dried beans so far. They stay good for 10 years or more in vac sealed mason jars.😀👌
Ya got to heat the beans first in oven at 130 degrees for 20 min to kill the bugs in the beans before long term storage.
😀
Agree, depression is on the way. Look around, maybe Russia is one of the few nations prospering economically. Much to be said about a leader who’s smart enough to take advantage of the WEF’s ignorance. Putin can keep right on selling oil and generally name his price. Not a surprise the price of gold is being intentionally suppressed. One of the universally recognized units of payment not currently tied to the US dollar. Obviously the old rule still applies; you can’t lose a game that you refuse to play.
And the USA Soccer Team has announced the layoff of Americanism in lieu of rainbows
Welcome to Biden’s America
Between twitter, FB and Amazon.. That’s what ~ 30,000 unemployed just from those three in the last couple weeks. It’s only just getting started by the way.
note the ‘revelation’ today of Bezos’ charity giving, including 100 million to everyone’s favorite, Dolly Parton.
Also, when does Biden stop tapping the Strategic Oil Reserve, thereby doubling the gas price within a week or two?
If one really wanted to put a damper on holiday travel, Thanksgiving is just over a week away.
Knowing these ill tempered ingrates, sooner rather than later. Then there’s Christmas a few weeks later.
“When does Biden stop tapping the Strategic Oil Reserve, thereby doubling the gas price within a week or two?”
WHEN ITS EMPTY!
