Elon Musk has sent an internal memo to company employees notifying them of layoffs to begin tomorrow. The Verge obtained a copy of the memo:
Team,
In an effort to place Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce on Friday. We recognize that this will impact a number of individuals who have made valuable contributions to Twitter, but this action is unfortunately necessary to ensure the company’s success moving forward.
Given the nature of our distributed workforce and our desire to inform impacted individuals as quickly as possible, communications for this process will take place via email. By 9AM PST on Friday Nov. 4th, everyone will receive an individual email with the subject line: Your Role at Twitter. Please check your email, including your spam folder.
– If your employment is not impacted, you will receive a notification via your Twitter email.
– If your employment is impacted, you will receive a notification with next steps via your personal email.
– If you do not receive an email from twitter-hr@ by 5PM PST on Friday Nov. 4th, please email [email protected].
To help ensure the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data, our offices will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended. If you are in an office or on your way to an office, please return home.
We acknowledge this is an incredibly challenging experience to go through, whether or not you are impacted. Thank you for continuing to adhere to Twitter policies that prohibit you from discussing confidential company information on social media, with the press or elsewhere.
We are grateful for your contributions to Twitter and for your patience as we move through this process.
Thank you.

It will be interesting to continue watching what happens.
There is no doubt in my mind that 100% of the Twitter employees are of the liberal-communist mindset and very happy to support 1A censorship, banning conservative-minded people and interfering in elections to keep the anti-American Democrats in power.
If Twitter were a human body…the Twitter employees would be seen as a cancer that needs to be removed. All of the Twitter employees need to be fired/laid-off and hire all new staff (yes, I know it will never happen).
Elon says he bought Twitter to bring back free speech because the world needs an open/fair public forum. Yet, he is willing to use the very same employees who hate free speech, support censorship and suppressing information they don’t like…does not seem to make good business sense (IMO).
As long as that cancerous mindset is allowed to stay at Twitter, there will never be truly honest debate and free speech.
Yes, but what Elon has now done is the equivalent of cutting open the tumor. Now they will spread to other orgs. It might have been better for everyone else to just quick sucking the Twitter crack pipe and have it die for lack of interaction.
BTW, when Musk makes Twitter usage dependent on providing ID, ties the CBDC into your Twitter account, and then ESG mandates that companies do payroll using verified social media — Oh, and look! Right here we have one! — we’ll all see that neither Musk, neither Trump, neither any other single savior is the way out of this tyranny.
Interesting analogies but not wholly realistic. First I doubt 100% of thevemployees are completely worthless leftist morons but I’m sure it’s a substantial amount. Secondly you can’t fire everyone and still function. He has to leave a core in place and then bring in new properly vetted employees and eliminate the rest of those that are counterproductive over time. In your analogy… remove the most obvious mass of the cancer then begin chemotherapy.
A dose of reality is good for the little Marxists. Next, they might have to start working, or showing up to the office. Next, they’ll start feeling a sense of gratitude for being retained trying to stay employed by producing work. The possibilities are endless!
Sadly, Musk is under tremendous pressure from the leftist bloc of corporate advertisers, this will be a tough slog.
I know your response is to ‘no’, I would like to say that I didn’t mean to imply that Elon fire/layoff everybody on Day 1 and have an empty building.
It may not be 100% of the employees, however with a place like Twitter I find hard to believe there would be any employees that do not think like the former CEO…which is why I completely agree with your last two sentences.
Keep the core, new properly vetted employees and then use chemotherapy to eliminate the counterproductive.
He can try new things but it’s too soon to tell which ones will work. Personally, I have never used any form of “social media” and I never will. But, that’s just me. 🤷♂️
You actually are right now. What you mean, perhaps, is FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Using a blog is often our only way to communicate and express ourselves these days. Not criticizing you, but this is social media – a beneficial means of communication.
Could it be that when one uses any form of social media, he is sacrificing his privacy and freedom?
Depends on the business model and the architecture.
When one uses a CELL PHONE… DEFINITELY!
Me too
never say what you aint gonna do.
Hon, you’re on one now.🤫
We are in the midst of a paradigm shift that began with cellular communications and the rapid progress of miniaturized, portable communications devices. I doubt that we are even halfway through. Our entire globe is impacted by the absolute ability to communicate with virtually anyone at anytime at any place. Instant individual, group, and mass communication is so new that we have no idea how to grasp it.
I think that freedom of speech is paramount to all freedoms. It is by their speech that we know them. Unfortunately, we live in a world that fears speech, ideas, and opinion. Those who crave absolute power (and wealth is all about power, inseparable) will do whatever it takes to not just reduce, but eliminate challenges to that absolute power.
I don’t know if there is any single individual who can “save” free speech. Free speech is a right that is defended by exercising it. It is good that men like Musk appear to support free speech. By his deeds we will know whether that is the case, or if it is just another modality for exercising his immense power. As to President Trump, it is clear from the way he is treated by the totalitarian Left that he is an absolute threat to their hold on power. God rarely chooses the most chaste among us to carry out His work (see King David).
” Free speech is a right that is defended by exercising it.” Right There!
Most of our institutions are filled with the communists. So what’s a few more spread out there? These newly fired Twitter-communists now have to go compete for jobs with everyone else instead of being tucked in their Safe Space deciding who can speak and who cannot.
It IS a START… give him a bit of time. If you have never run a business, you have no idea the depths of what has to happen to reach a goal.
Agreed, it is a start and will take some time. Of course, I’m not an employee at Twitter and have no idea what Elon’s 12-18 plan is as he restructures Twitter to his liking.
Disagree about running a business and that I have no idea…I have worked for small companies (less than 10 people) and worked for large companies (more than 20k employees); I have been through similar circumstances with what is now happening at Twitter.
I’ve been on both sides if this fence, been with the company that is buying out another company…as well I have been with the company being bought out…not the side you want to be on.
There is usually an initial round of layoffs and then a planned reorganization (12-18 month period in my experience). During the re-org period, people change positions, new teams get created, new management brought in and yes layoffs still happen.
Your 100% figure is in fact 100% wrong.
Do you not know many people who “go along to get along”?
The “silent majority”?
Sure, it may not be a “majority” among the Twitter workforce, but it will be significant.
I am surmising that Elon is trying to get rid of the “activist half” of Twitter and keep the “go along to get along” half in employment.
The “go along to get along” employees will do their job as management dictates, not as their personal feelings dictate.
If they are good employees and good at their job, if they are “go along to get along” types, there is no reason to get rid of them in a restructured Twitter under new management.
You would be completely delusional to think 100% of Twitter employees are activist types.
Wow.
Trust but verify.
This is EXACTLY what President Trump has to do to the Swamp creatures when he returns to office.
Too bad he didn’t do it the first time. Most of the disasters could have been avoided.
Comment deleted by Admin…
and you, “no”, are really part of the problem. not part of the solution.
Green Breret J6 prisoner Jeremy Brown has stated this sentiment multiple times. Mike Moore interviewed him during his True Pundit days right after the video of the feds trying to recruit him went viral. Brown was running security during the speeches on January 6.
Moore has raised the question as to why the March 13, 2020 State of Emergency for all 50 states was never ended. Biden just renewed the thing. Without the EO declaration of an emergency non of this stuff would have been possible. Why is Ali Alexander not in jail but Brown is.
I was about to have the best year of my career until that EO. I lost 100% 0f my business within 3 days.
Something happened. I am not going to speculate as to what this No person means. However, I will inform you of a need to ask questions. This declaration is serious matter. Not ending the thing is a serious matter. Personally, I am at the point to where I trust no one.
I pray if there is another Trump term, this crap is revoked. It has to be revoked. People held to account. I also pray that another Trump term has his revenge served cold hat on. If it isn’t then this No person is correct in my opinion.
PSA:
I am not a troll.
after thirty days emergency orders need to be put before Congress debated a, extended or ended…
they need to go on record EVERY 30 DAYS.
Troll Alert !!
GOAT, yes.
Trump did the best he could, given the cards dealt to him, and the playing field he found himself on, especially as an outsider to goverment.
No one person can drain the swamp that has been in place in the Federal government for at least 30 years with civil service protection by law.
You can’t just “fire them all” in the Federal government; that is just an internet fantasy by people who don’t deal with government. And if you could, the next Dem could reverse it all with a stroke of a pen.
We need a change in mindset of the bureaucracy that will follow a change in mindset in the Congress that makes the laws, which in turn follows the change in mindset of the electorate.
Trump did well and made incremental progress on all fronts.
Additionally, he delivered a SCOTUS favorable or at least not hostile to our side, and shown other politicians (DeSantis, Lake, etc., how to win elected office as a non-GOPe Republican).
Add to that the thousands of local school boards that are feeling the heat from parents who don’t want to turn their kids over to transactivist teachers….
President Trump signed several executive orders that made firing executive employees much easier. He did not have time to use them. It won’t happen again.
Wow. Trolls gotta troll.
On President Trump’s first day back in office he should have every Federal employee in the Executive branch who is capable of being terminated send a signed and undated resignation letter to his office. Every person who refuses should be terminated immediately. That especially includes people like “General” Miley Cyrus.
He should then put a date on some and send a copy back (Thank you for your service) so everyone understands how it works.
Could President Trump have replaced 3,000 executive workers on the day after being sworn in as our president? Being an outsider he had no idea of the amount of termites. He has often said, “The swamp is bigger than I thought”. He has worked tirelessly to have a friendlier House & Senate. But, again, that does not eliminate the shadow bought & paid for commies in D.C.
Trump’s strength as an outsider (being able to think a different way about the problems in government) came with his weakness: personnel. He did not even have Mitt Romney’s binders of women to use to backfill the bureaucracy. His economic team was spectacular. As he moved to other fields of endeavor, not so great. And some of his personal loyalty hires, like Jeff Sessions or Omarosa or Scaramucci blew up in his face. Next time should be better.
Agree with you. Maybe there will even be pressure to adjourn Senate so appointments can be without Senate vote. Mitch never allowed it first time.
That would be a few hundred political appointees. The entrenched bureaucrats hired 5, 10, 15, 20 years ago? Not so much.
See Schedule F.
I’vee never cared much for political patronage, but in emergemcies like now I am all for it.
I don’t think much can’t be accomplished unless congress changes the cilivil serice laws. Things would change quickly if the President could fire anyone without cause. I would start with anyone hired during the Obama and FJB administration that is involved in implementing policy. The janitors, and other similiar folks, can stay.
the republican party stopped him.
Oh no, here are 3,750 potential new pipeline workers looking for employment.
😂😂😂😂😂
The problem is most of them probably don’t really do much “work”.
“Please check your SPAM” in case you can’t receive an email from the tech company you work for.
Say Elon could you extend the firings to the local, state and federal governments?
When I got of of the Army in ’72 (Nam), I became a union carpenter. For the first 25 years of my work life, I built over 500 homes, banks, strip malls, condo and apartment complexes. Act two was subcontracting installation work from Builders Square, Home Depot, Lowes and Sears. No big deal. Everyone has to work. The big deal was I got up at 3AM and tossed newspapers….for years. The way I see it, you either have to be book smart or…..work your ass off…… I’ll be 75 in a few days and so, how did my life of hard work turn out?…..My wife and I are VERY COMFORTABLE in our senior years because……we worked “above and beyond”……….have a great weekend everyone!
Thank you for your service, sir. Very glad you made it out of there alive and in one piece. 🇺🇸 My uncle barely did …
Congratulations on a life of production which is a life of reward. When you work hard in life and are careful with your rewards, you have the satisfaction of achieving something of value for the whole of society and the satisfaction from economic success.
To me, it doesn’t seem like it is an either-or kind of thing as far as the book smart. A neighbor’s daughter is extremely book smart, but she works hard and often long hours as a surgical nurse – up at 5:00 am, get to work by 6:00, on her feet for hours at a time with the pressure of decisions that can have serious consequences and endless paperwork, then children at home to spend time with, prepare meals, wash clothes, keep house. It’s a lot, but she will also someday be okay.
Nice post.
Why doesn’t her partner assist with some of the ‘so-called’ housework, AND the kids? I come from a family of seven kids, am Male, and our Mother ‘learned’ us in lots of things.
Thank you for your Service! Inspiring post.. Hard work indeed. “Above and beyond” ensures results. Congratulations.
The vast majority of colonists survived the Revolutionary War and some even thrived, while others gave that last full measure of devotion to the Revolution so those colonists who didn’t participate could live out their lives as free men. They sacrificed their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to the cause.
I could tell a similar story since I’m of a similar age and work ethic. However, I chose to not live out my life in comfort while others are dying out there. It’s time to take the war to the Communists. I wish you and others like you many years of peace and tranquility. That’s the beauty of this Great Republic. Freedom and choice.
Again, this is a Fake Company that cannot make money. Who is Elon? CIA ? This is all drama. Stop using the crappy Filthy Liberal service.
Oh, certainly it can make money. But a whole lot of advertisers are going to be uncomfortable when they start being told real numbers. Much smaller than they had previously been told.
While I too have doubts and suspicions, we don’t really know anything. Just sit back and enjoy what’s going on for now.
Elon Musk has YET to reveal (confirm) the deep state government affiliation [portal] by which the government, inhibited by the US constitution, violated the law.
What’s really important is that this violation of the law actually circumvented government records keeping as well! They didn’t use email. They didn’t schedule meetings with minutes kept (though they said there were meetings… it would be interested to FOIA those!). Instead, they did precisely what Hillary did — conduct government (and personal… total grey area there) business over a private message system.
Isn’t a portal at twitter and facebook just another non-government message system? Why indeed it is. It’s not just a violation of the constitution, but countless counts of federal law violation.
Twitter Employees,
Welcome to the world of hard working Americans. Take a deep breath and have a latte! You are lucky that you are not going to jail!
Should we recommend Elon for “Schadenfreude of the Year” award?
I would have left the @twitter.com email addres blanked out. Their server spam filters will be working overtime.
Next week Elon will terminate the remaining twitter staff. He will run twitter with 50 people he brought with him from his other companies vs. 7,500. Let that sink in.
That company could operate with a few hundred employees. There is probably no more significant software-development work to be done. You need operations, content moderators, people to handle the advertising contracts and reporting. Executive and legal. That’s about it.
A company like Twitter needs about 100 IT people, 40 good software devs, three or four managers for those people with at maybe two at the VP level, about 100 people manning their sales and marketing department, a couple managers for that one with one at the VP level. Then a CEO, CTO, and COO. Toss in two cat-lady HR people, and some janitorial staff and that’s it.
Elon,
Is that you?
🤔
Reading the comments that Trump should’ve done what Musk did on day 1,… Fire The Swamp. I agree BUT he couldn’t. He had too many enemies that needed exposure. Too many leftist lawyers that needed exposure, to many RINOs that needed exposure. Remember, he was impeached, twice for trying to take them down. Trump didn’t have the muscle behind him, we weren’t mad enough.
He needed the American People to fully understand just what was going on, to wake up. and after Nov 8, he just have the muscle he needs.
Indeed. Imagine if Caesar Julius had been able to parry the knives and take out his assassins one by one.
Also, Balaji Srinivasan discusses this in his interview by Lex Fridman. Balaji was Trumps pick to head the FDA, Fridman asked him if he would’ve been able to make a difference at the FDA. Balaji answered: No. He said the problem is that you can’t fire these government employees and the drug companies first customer is the FDA.
The FDA can ruin your company by stalling approvals, making you do more funding rounds that dilute your stock value. Companies that play well with the FDA get rewarded and new/“troublesome” companies get pushed out by bureaucratic delays that keep their product from the market.
We need to create a parallel solutions to much of government the best we can, because government bureaucrats and politicians (of both parties) are not the solution.
You certainly are able to RIF (reduction in force) federal employees if you systematically shut down the department, agency, section, etc. They may be eligible for another federal job if one becomes available.
And if you RIF the FDA, how much faster will the drug reviews go?
Or do you expect the FDA to just rubber-stamp whatever Pharma serves up?
Who do you replace these people with? Half are MDs, PhD, JDs, RPhs, RNs, and other technical specialists.
You are not going to find their replacements at a political rally or on the internet.
Start with the illicit payments in the form of royalties to those scientists, PhDs, etc. Remove FDAs power through reduction in funding. RIF 50% of the staff. Things will charge rapidly.
https://dispatchesfromheck.blogspot.com/2021/08/how-to-drain-swamp.html
Disagree.
The Leftwing of the Dems have never held widespread popular support. But they wield power ruthlessly when they hold it.
Excuses are like [fill in the blank]s: everyone has one.
If whomever is OUR chosen instrument, then it is OUR obligation to keep the heat on.
Well, it has always been very clear that “Jack’s Magic Coffee Shop” had way-y-y too many employees, many of whom were just along for the ride. Lots of Silicon Valley companies, when they think they are doing well, have this tendency. You have to go in and shake the tree so that some of the non-performing fruit falls off. You actually won’t miss them at all. You also know that some folks who you would like to keep are going to leave on their own, but that can’t be helped.
(And, “speaking of Jack,” the original founder, I was very interested to learn that he was a significant investor in Musk’s buy-out. I don’t know if he’ll go back on the Board, and maybe Elon hasn’t decided either. But it is an interesting twist …)
Jack Welch, GE (back when it was a well-run company, always got rid of the bottom 10% every year. Do any companies do that today? Gubmint doesn’t and never has.
Lawfare using the WARN Act started yesterday ref. 60 day notice period.
I wondered when somebody would get around to the WARN Act. Been trying to figure out how Mr. Musk would get around that one. It’s intended to allow the local and state governments get prepared for the mass influx of newly unemployed. It buys the soon to be unemployed time to look for a new job and keep their current paycheck as well,
Not sure what fines if any the WARN Act imposes for not complying. I would just lock them out of the system, disable their access to the office and let them sit at home, do nothing, pay them for the 60 days, then let them go.
He is paying them through February-although they are not working and can get another job – but no unemployment benefits-February target date is so any WARN act nonsense wouldn’t apply.
Elon is no dummy-
Meh, he can lay off a couple of thousand with zero impact on him. That one gives you up to a third of the employees.
They’ve covered the WARN Act:: “Those who have been laid off have been notified that, depending on their position, they will continue to be employed by the social media giant until either January or February next year. However, their last day of work will be November 4, and they are not expected to work, and all access will be deactivated.”
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2022/11/twitter-mass-firing-begins-elon-musk-sent-fired-employees/
Tell them to go get another job like they told Keystone Pipeline workers.
and the folks fired for refusing the jab
Thank you for continuing to adhere to Twitter policies that prohibit you from discussing confidential company information on social media, with the press or elsewhere.
Now THAT is a Laugh Out Loud. Can’t wait for the entitled b!tches at Twitter to crap all over that “policy”.
OMG…. he took their stapler!
😂😂😂
“It’ll work itself out.”
Is Musk “firing” the CIA and FBI agents from Twitter so they’re off the hook?
Legally this is sticky. They worked for NYSE Twitter. Not private company Musk.
After watching that video of “A day in the life of a Twitter Employee” I’d say 75% of the twits need to go. Course they’re suing because Cali employment laws are so anti-business. Next step will be the move of the Twits from Cali to Texas. Too bad for Texas that will have all these Twits dumped on them.
Many will never make that move, gets rid of some more! He should avoid relocating in the blue areas of TX! Put ’em out on the prairies and watch ’em fly away! Change that blue bird to red!
Makes you wish he could play a role in our government.
I hope that somewhere on the notices the following appears:
LEARN TO CODE
I sure hope all of their folders don’t fill up with spam e-mails from troublemakers, now that their methods are on record in public. Hopefully, this communication is just a diversion from what will actually take place, or this could get messy in a hurry.
Grievance is a daily issue in life when they wake up and the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.
Reminds me of the evening of 1 December 1969, as my brothers and I watch the televised Vietnam Draft Lottery.
Not really, but I’m sure for the workers at Twitter probably feel that way.
Every employee should be fired and start over
People who live in the Bay Area may want to take extra safety precautions after these lay-offs. Many, if not the majority of people in Twitter’s workforce are most likely young radical Marxist snowflakes. Who else would want to work there? If we can generalize from the posts of their peers on social media, this is a brainwashed, mentally unstable, weak-minded, and vengeful group of immature people. Close to 3,000(?) being laid off from their jobs of Entitlement with apparently no mental health support as the economy crashes and inflation skyrockets in the Bay Area is not a good combination. For one thing, housing in SF is among the most expensive in the country. Of note, there was no announcement in Elon’s memo alluding to any form of an Employee Assistant Program for mental health services one usually sees with a large RIF, or even any Safe Spaces to go to that would have crayons and teddy bears available. This is a sheltered, Participation Trophy generation that so far has not had to face many adversarial realities of the world. Twitter employees have been groomed to be and to celebrate the Brown Shirts of the modern era, waging war against the political opponents of their globalist Communist overlords, protected in every way from the consequences of their actions.
One could almost feel sorry for them, unless we remember the way they have colluded with Election Tampering by participating in censoring legitimate information (like the Hunter Laptop scandal) that could have changed our 2020 election results, and the way they persecuted, silenced, and de-platformed anyone who expressed concerns about the numerous public displays and reports of 2020 election fraud. Also the similar ways they censored information and the research coming from experienced medical professionals expressing concerns about the dangerous COVID experimental vaccines and their mandates. And how they censored information about effective treatments for COVID. How many Americans died or are medically disabled for life because of this censorship they participated in? Reflect on what the results of the 2020 election have done to weaken our country, our economy, the world economy, and indeed the entire world’s stability. Russia would never have invaded Ukraine if Trump was in office. With the emboldened antics of our enemies we are seeing, we are on the precipice of a nuclear WW3 thanks to Biden’s stupidity and incompetence. How many will suffer with no heat or food this winter because of Biden’s DISASTROUS energy policies?
Statements such as “I was just following orders and doing my job” did not result in acquittals in the Nuremberg Trials for those charged with Crimes Against Humanity. Nor should those at Twitter, or other Marxist propaganda media outlets violating US laws on Free Speech get a pass for what they have done to our country and the world’s stability because they may say “I was just doing what I was told.” Karma is knocking on their door.
Nice to see a well-thought-out Post. Thanks for taking the time, and care.
I hope all of the workers who are laid off are libs, own overpriced properties that they can barely afford, and have to relocate for their next jobs.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Move Twitter Headquarters out of San Francisco to Texas.
Deprive San Francisco of any Twitter tax dollars.
—
San Francisco is a lawless Banana Republic.
It’s far too dangerous to go walking around San Francisco.
Homeless drug addicts are all over the streets.
Democrat politicians destroyed San Francisco.
NO! We don’t need anymore idiots in Texas, thank you very much!
