Tucker Carlson used his opening monologue Friday evening to outline his perspective on the Elon Musk takeover of the social media platform Twitter. Generally, Carlson does a good job framing the big picture of national events; however, Carlson outdid himself on this contextualized delivery.
While the underlying premise of Carlson’s position is structured on a yet-to-be-seen possibility of free speech, the context for the importance of the moment is very well presented. I hope that Tucker Carlson is correct in regard to the altruistic intent of Mr. Musk. Well worth watching:

John Kennedy said that a democracy depends on an open marketplace of ideas where the people get to decide what is true and what is false and that any government (or corporations acting on their behalf) that censors its own people does so because it is afraid of its own people.
He would not even recognize these censoring people as members of his own party. Or even as fellow Americans. He would think they were a bunch of Nazis. And he would be right.

I was listening to a speaker last night who has heard tell the next thing the feds are going to try is lockdowns for climate change! After realizing people (not all of course) were easily scared and manipulated by covid rules, they think they can scare us into staying home to fight climate change. After seeing Biden and the U.N. claim that Ukraine would never use a “dirty” bomb, I expect that in the near future we will see one detonated in Ukraine. This, after blowing up the natural gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea, and then blaming Russia for it, when all they would have had to do was turn it off. Conservatives do not approve of this offensive statement. But most conservatives probably are hesitant to condemn West because he previously made various sensible statements which were publicly approved and all are not aware of this specific statement. Some also are defending his right to say what he wants as free speech even though this particular statement is threatening. Unfortunately, West’s behavior is alarmingly inconsistent and this has embarrassed people who previously embraced him. He is like a roller coaster with his various utterances, but that does not mean that everyone who has supported him at some point in time also supports this recent offensive statement.

Free speech is a release valve, love it or hate it. If you crush free speech, you are setting yourself up for a worse scenario from a lot of disgruntled people.
I remember pieces of “art” that were highly offensive to me as a Catholic. The media had no problem highlighting it. I could express my negative opinion about it but I could also choose not to seek it out (or if it showed up on my tv, I have the power to turn to another channel).

Considering Elon Musk’s positions on thngs like transhumanism (like his proposal for brain implants) and how much money he receives now from the federal government, I’m still wary about his ultimate motivations. As Carlson points out, Musk isn’t a conservative. I’m not really sure what his politics are, if he’s one of those futurists who believes in a coming AI singularity, etc. But people don’t have to be in perfect ideological alignment with each other to fight for the same goals, and the Twitter meltdowns thus far have been glorious.
I hope this has a net positive effect. But if Twitter really is Jack’s Magic Coffee Shop, I don’t know how much change Musk wil really be able to introduce.
I would like to point out that the ‘Magic Coffee Shop’ still has value to the government in a free speech configuration of Twitter. There is some value for the heads of government to monitor the mood of the people as policies are publicly proposed. This gives the government sophistry experts the ability to test the latest ‘trial balloon’ in a measurable way.
Ideally, this would be the feedback to the leadership that they are not on the right path. Think of how peaceful the situation could be if the government responded to the aggregate mood of people on Twitter, rethinking unpopular policies. Like any other tool, it can be used for good or ill…
What you describe, is what political opinion polls were thought to be, in the beginning.
However, how it actually works; polls tell politicians and staffs that the policies they have enacted, or are trying to enact aren’t liked by the majority of people.
They DO NOT change the policy; they just change the messaging.
Its like Coca-cola executives, looking at horrible sales figures for “New Coke” concluding they need to change the colors of the can.
The Political class have been told, repeatedly that the majority of people disapprove; their responce has been to “work on messaging” and blame the people.
It will be very interesting if Mr. Musk confirms SD’s very well reasoned suspicion that the FedGov is supporting Twitter’s cloud infrastructure. If confirmed, and with Musk’s financial background it wouldn’t be hard to do, this would be (or should be) a stunning revelation and should open the door to many more questions about what else does our “benevolent” FedGov illicitly have its fingers in.
Went back on Twitter today, my 60th birthday. I canceled Twitter the same day they canceled Pres. Trump, in solidarity. I hope Elon Musk can stand firm against the shit-storm the U.S. government is going to unleash on him and his free-speech platform. For the people who think that allowing Free Speech back onto Twitter is a way to “trap” MAGA types for hate speech or misinformation think about this: they did not need Elon Musk to purchase Twitter to do it.
They could have done it themselves. They could have had a lefty judge rule against them in a free speech lawsuit. Then they could have complied and invited all MAGA people onto Twitter.
Just like that, they’ve laid the trap.
Now two of their biggest censorship advocates are gone and he has access to their codes.
I am hopeful that this is God setting the stage to get His Truth out. He is giving the world another chance to get it right before He pours His wrath out onto the world.
The federal government can find every single post any of us have ever made on any social media site, if they want to so why be afraid when it’s already out there? If and when they decide to act on it, it’s time to stop talking and to start fighting back anyway.
Elon is already in (almost) full retreat – he was supposed to hold a Twitter Town Hall meeting yesterday, which presumably resulted in his acceptance of content moderation via a ‘Council’. Welcome to the slippery slope of giving up free speech a bit at a time Elon, or else maybe he’s realizing just how much Twitter serves the Intelligence Communities interests. I believe he must have known that given 1) he’s a Billionaire, and frankly, it’s pretty rare to become a Billionaire without the aid of the Deep State. or 2) His deep connections with the Deep State through SpaceX and his other enterprises that are actually public private partnerships.
If he still held his previous views about freedom of speech, he would have had to terminate the employment of easily 75% of Twitter staff or spend enormous time and energy fighting a never ending up hill battle. Since that hasn’t happened, I am very skeptical of his success.

Musk bought Twitter so he has a large platform to create a pay system. Welcoming back conservatives is only bringing back (a lot) more customers. His current businesses wouldn’t exist without government handouts. He must have a good working relationship with the fed. Why else would they let him buy Twitter? He may have some free speech motivation. But that’s not the real reason.
Free speech doesn’t require content moderation. Censorship can’t live without it.
