I can understand if they want to prosecute people who intentionally misinform voters to cause them to not be able to vote, like passing out pamphlets in neighborhoods or depositing messages in online forums convincing voters that election day is Wed Nov 9 or that polls are open until 10pm. But I’m having a hard time coming up with any other kind of misinformation that I think would rise to the level of an election crime.
You just did as Sundance warned regarding labeling anything misinformation. Intentionally misleading a person to result in personal gain is called fraud. The candidate’s campaign is defrauding the citizenry—no need to utilize speech controls to arrest people doing as you describe. There are already laws to address those situations. There is no way this document is any kind of a guide to a specific statute keeping anyone from lying about anything involved in an election campaign. Politicians lie all the time. No one has made any attempt to criminalize their lying, either, by writing the appropriate statute. This is an example of LAWFARE as a form of asymmetrical warfare by way of criminalizing something that has never been a crime, and STILL has not been declared a crime by an actual law.

I’m late to this conversation, but I would like to point out that all of this started with “hate crimes”. Hate is arbitrarily defined by individuals just as beauty is.
