Folks, I’m not trying to bust on Ron DeSantis, I’m just highlighting the dynamic in the background to include the political players and deep connected GOP club operatives. If the truth makes me a critic, then so be it; but I’m not going to play the pretending game. Quite frankly, I’m tired of it.
Ron DeSantis is backed by the same assembly of political insiders, donors, corporations and financial backers that supported Jeb Bush. The professionally republican class know what they have in DeSantis, and he is brand organized, packaged & managed to deliver on their intents.
Former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is as dialed in to the GOP club system as it gets. Ryan’s brass nameplate is rivetted to one of the select mahogany chairs at the club table.
Speaking Wednesday at the Robin Hood conference before billionaires Steve Cohen and Paul Tudor Jones went on stage, Paul Ryan noted the GOP 2024 nominee will be “someone other than Donald Trump.”
According to a recording of his talk, Ryan named Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott as his three favorites. {source} DeSantis fighting Disney was “really good for him, from a political perspective,” Ryan said.
DeSantis didn’t raise $200+ million, with 94% coming from billionaires and multinational corporations, for a gubernatorial reelection race in Florida. Keep in mind all of the major expenses (television ads, mailers, etc.) are coming from outside PACs and affiliated groups.
DeSantis has raised a massive war chest and he is not spending it. He has willingly accepted the positioning for a 2024 nomination effort. It is intellectually dishonest not to see what the Club is doing.
The DNC Club is doing the same thing with California Governor Gavin Newsom.
The both wings of the UniParty want a Newsom -vs- DeSantis contest.
The professional political approach is as clear now in 2022 as it was in 2014 when the clubs were organizing the Hillary -vs- Jeb contest for 2016.
Sorry Ron, Ryan endorsement could be Kiss of Death for MAGA voters. You need to focus on being Governor and reject RINO endorsements. VERY fine Governor; possibly a very fine President. BUT Waaay too soon. If the Dems get their way and somehow criminalize Trump, I will reconsider. But ONLY if Trump does not run again.

I have always been leery of Youngkin. The Carlyle Group association really turned me off. He is not a bold thinking or doing politician. Kind of a blah Republican. Typical politician. His Attorney General is more of a go getter. Where has Paul Ryan been for the past four years??? Haven’t heard from him in ages. I am suspicious.

The state level is where real change can be affected. It’s time to stop playing Superbowl Politics by saying ‘X is a great governor. One day he or she will make a great POTUS’.
States are not perfunctory stepping stones to be strode across by world-conquering politicians. At least, they shouldn’t be.
Under true federalism (especially one captured by overwhelming GLOBAL money and power such as ours), the state-to-federal shift is not a PROMOTION, it’s an EXPROPRIATION.

No wonder Paul Ryan named Timmy Scott. Scott recently endorsed Lisa Murkowski and strangely enough perpetual Hannity guest and talk show host, Mark Levin never once asked Timmy about that endorsement while he lauded him for his new book during a recent interview.
Agree that the Murkowski endorsement is definitive. No one who cares about “issues” supports Murkowski, who perpetually stabs voters in the back. Scott is as trashcanned to me as Haley – and that is some serious bottom of the barrel.
Also, your comment about Vanity Hannity is one of the “hmmm” moments. Believe you are right that a perpetual Vanity guest slot is a tell – certainly is such for Graham. Do not ever watch the Vanity show, but the clips and references all indicate that you are correct.
I used to listen to Hannity but gave that up several years ago. He is too self-satisfied and his invariable practice of talking over his guests disgusts me. Not much of what he has to say gets to my ears these days.
There is much worse that Hannity SAYS that should have rankled, but he is so easy to listen to his voice, you go on cooking supper and NOT LISTENING to what he ACTUALLY SAYS!

They mostly came to the conclusion that RDS is great and how icky of Paul Ryan to say something like that. I like DeSantis as Governor of Florida, but I think it would be a mistake to have him for POTUS. I have no idea what Frum is talking about. I think he is talking about someone that will allow the cheating to go on, against him, and then go quietly in the night.
