Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

“I didn’t surf no counter…”
😂 Morning, G. That’s one cheeky chappie.
Good morning Bet! That’s for sure. Got an early start this morning driving Nipper to school. Don’t know what is wrong with these people, they want him there before 8. 😆
Anyway, I’m squeezing in an early workout. ❤️
Same here…and goes later as well…4pm. Treasure those runs with Nipper. Mine have ended as both boys are driving now and all three (their sister included) are in high school. I’m still trying to figure out where the time went. Strong memories still of when I started picking them up at their very good preschool at a local church, leading them out by their hands, they were that small. Feeling a good deal older now (quiet sob for so many reasons).
On the way to the health club I was talking to my bride about her many years of blessings when she drove the now 22 and 19 grands to school.
How funny! I bet she was smiling thinking about it. Day in, day out…and then poof! They’re gone. And blessings they were and are, treasured ones garnering the patina of time.
Now I watch as the twin grandlads hop in their old cars to drive off, and there is a part of me that wonders if those days ever were. My mother used to say that the days are long but the years are short….true, true.
Have Nipper’s first soccer practice this afternoon. Will meet him and his mom. Last night after we picked him up from school my bride and I bought him shin guards and a soccer ball. Will have to help raise him since his daddy unfortunately doesn’t appear to give a $#!t. They were short a bunch of coaches for soccer. I thought about it for a minute but decided that was for younger guys. My plate is full as is. 🙂
It is full, G. Given the circumstances, just being there for him as a presence and with words of encouragement will be exactly what he needs. You can focus solely on him, which is clearly what he needs, given you seem to be the only man in his life on a daily basis. And given the way things are, this is no bad thing, though I am so sorry that Nipper has to face what no young boy should.
This situation seems to be a problem for many. I’ve told how I’ve made friends with the staff at my Neighbourhood Walmart. The big burly chap who works in the meat section has three grandchildren, young, with a lad about Nipper’s age whose father is exactly like Nipper’s dad. The problems are heartbreaking. There seems to be with this father no inclination to remedy his issues, and that is a real tragedy for all.
And so while I know Nipper is feeling his father’s uninvolvement and probably can not make sense of it, I can’t think of anyone better equipped to step in with love, support, encouragement and Christian teachings than you and your bride. Your being there is a blessing of a magnitude for which there is simply no number high enough. Give him an extra big hug from me, again the source of which can remain between you and me, my brother💕
I will gladly hug him for you, dear Bet. ❤️ Nipper’s mom lives for now with her parents so they are there to help, too. So last week for grandparents day he had two sets there plus a great grandma – my mom. 😁
Funny story from today. When I dropped him off one of the ladies welcoming the kids asked him who was dropping him off today. His answer was, “don’t slam the door,” and it was delivered pretty forcefully. She slammed it, anyway, but I got a big chuckle. 😂
Hahahha!!! Oh those door slams…and the number of times I’ve said it, only a split second after to hear the slam!😂
I’m sure I mentioned this before, G. But our son had the same issues as Nipper’s dad. And through the grace of God after quite a few years, he grabbed himself by the seat of his britches and said “no more.” It wasn’t easy but we had honestly thought, well, this is it. We love him but we can’t fix him. Fifteen years later, his life is a complete 180. So the prayers I offered for him, I will offer for Nipper’s dad, for his sake and Nipper’s and for all who love them. They will remain unceasing, my dear friend.
So glad your little lad had his entourage in attendance. As grandparents, we really do have our uses, and I can’t think of a better one😉💕
I said I wanted In and out!
Interesting article from November 2021…….
https://jonathanturley.org/2021/11/08/six-degrees-from-brookings-how-a-liberal-think-tank-keeps-coming-up-in-the-russian-collusion-investigation/
It sounds like Brookings is a place where Dems go to cause trouble for their political opposition when they are not in power.
Too bad none of these people are patiots in the sense that they want to serve the country. All of Washington DC is jut there for power and money, except Donald Trump.
“Brookings has long been viewed as effectively the research arm for Democratic figures and liberal causes. Yet, even in the Baconesque world of Washington insiders, it is rare to see a think tank connected on so many levels to a criminal investigation. Like much in our politics, these connections will mean different things to different people. For conservatives, Brookings looks like the mothership for this scandal with associates coordinating meetings and roles in the metastasization of the scandal. For liberals, the connections simply show the influence of the liberal think tank and any highlighting of the think tank is gaslighting a new “Trilateral Commission” narrative”.
Morning Ya’ll 🙂
Yo, Jay 🙂 Have a great day!

Hi there, Pa❣️
Morning Patience! ❤️
Good morning, Garrison❣️
Thanks (again) for your musical selections today!
Ladies of the Canyon and Blue caused many a door knocking on my bedroom door —and “Turn it off!”. 😂
Later, there came Miles of Isles with open doors and windows.
Joni Mitchell had an amazing voice and the musicians like Jaco Pastorius & Pat Metheny…………talk about everything coming together. One of my favorite albums.
It’s Cursday, Treepers. Pet your puppies for me . . . 🙂
This video remonds me of our much loved border collie Sweetle. For 15 years my wife enjoyed remarkable stability, despite developing advancing Alzheimer’s disease. She completely enjoyed walking in our neighborhood, always accompanied by our foundling border colliee Sweetie. She was the best dog. Loyal, attentive, ever watchful, and attentive. . . . I never worried about my wife getting lost because I was sure that Sweetie would bring her back home. Rescue a border collie. Your life will be dramatically enhanced by the experience. 🙂
Garrison, I am not a believer in serendipity. That day Sweetie came up to you and found her forever home was not just a chance happening.
I thought at the time your beloved wife slipped away of Sweetie so strongly (but didn’t say)…I had a vision of Sweetie, tail wagging, guiding her, one of His flock, home. It was a vision that I truly hoped you would have as well. I’m so glad you put this reminiscence here. I do pray it was so.

The story of Bobby McGee…
yesterday rah and Patience and GB Bari and Dutchman and I all got to talking about 50s and 60s popsicles from the ice cream man, and I just posted a follow-up story there but thought I’d post it here too since that’s yesterday’s thread.
just a bit of a reminiscence
—–
in the ’61 to ’64 time frame, I recollect most ice creams were 10c, maybe 15c for the fancier Good Humor ones with the coconut or chocolate-and-nuts coatings, and 10c for the simpler popsicles and fudgesicles
nothing cost a quarter at that time, a quarter was big money
there was a type of newer soda machine mid-60s, a single vertical column of pop bottles down the left side, then the bulk of the rest of the machine to the right, flat front with lighted upper panel.
this new machine would let you choose from a variety, like coke, root beer, orange — that kinda thing. prior to that, there was just a “coke machine” – you put your dime in and a coke would fall down a chute to the single opening at bottom.
or – for a variety of sodas, there was a lift-the-lid cooler from the 50s where all the bottles were standing inside, like a lidded freezer. you pulled one out and handed the cashier your dime
one of these newer vertical column machines in our town misbehaved
you could put a dime in and pull your soda out by the neck
but you could also keep pulling and more would come out, we could get 4 to a dime total
lasted weeks until they figured out something was wrong and fixed it (too many sodas gone, not enough dimes in the repository)
we were in pop heaven, I was maybe 11
started getting summer jobs at 12, but at 10 and 11 I had my “route”, my collection route
seashore town, long skinny island so there was a long main road, the “boulevard”, crossed by many side streets that ran up to the beach
I’d ride my bike for 20 blocks or so of the boulevard shops and snack markets and pizza joints, checking all the coin slots in the soda machines and pay phones, there’d be one of each about every 3 blocks
they’d misbehave and I’d often come home with about $1.50 a day in coin-slot haul, just checking the coin-return slots and wiggling the coin-return levers that were on them. coins would jump the internal tracks or get hung up or something
some of the phones you could slam the side a bit with the heel of your hand and they’d cough up
$1.50 a day was good money for an 11-year old in 1964, considering my first job the next year at 12 was dishwasher at 50 cents an hour
I grew up in a pretty magic time (50s-60s), a real sweet-spot in American history … for kids, at least
Your reference to .25 c being big money.. brought back memories from 1948-49…I was 12-13, my grandfather made me a shoe shine box.. was able to buy some polish, brushes, rags… off I went into subway system in NYC.. charged .25c to shine shoes🤣.. made 2-3 dollars on a good day 🤣👍
🇺🇸💪😀👍
Thx for that… with lots of practice I could pop the shine rag 🤣🤣👍
🇺🇸💪😀👍
When I was 6-7 y/o we did not have an ice cream truck. We had a tricycle with the dry ice cooled freezer between the two front wheels. .
There was a bar with a line of bells connected in such a way that when a front tire of the tricycle was rolling the bells rang in a particular tune.
Usually a young lady was doing the peddling and selling.
On the really hot days I always got a root beer popcycle.
Oh. Man!!!! Dilly bars.
Finding a couple of empty glass pop bottles was like striking gold.
Sometimes it was work though, having to reach (head first) inside the metal mesh trash cans.
-Penny candy feast!
yep, turning in pop bottles for the deposit back — pocket change but, yeah, you could buy some stuff with a little bit of pocket change then
In the mid 60s that’s how we would get our Friday night cruising money. We would collect all the soda bottles from our houses and turn them in for cash which would then go into our gas tank. Fun times. Great memories. Of course, gas back then was $.24 a gallon.
In the village where I lived after 1957 just outside the Baltimore City line, we kids learned to leave the most visible pop bottles lying in place along the main road. That was because there was a “bag lady” of sorts, always wrapped in layers of worn-out clothes, who walked 7 days a week up and down the main road for about a mile and a half, and dragged along one of those 2-wheeled metal wire shopping carts in which she collected bottles.
She would periodically turn them in for money at a Food Fair grocery store up in the village on the main street. The rumor was that she was a patient at the nearby state mental hospital and this was her past time, and only means of income/spending money. But I never was able to confirm that.
Still, we kids found enough bottles in other areas to keep our “penny candy funds” viable…
gracious charity at a young age, GB – you’re made of good stuff and your friends too
👍
Thank you for that, nimrodman. What a wonderful memory.
And you are right. It really was a sweet spot, all too fleeting in American history. Of course we were not to recognize it then. But now thoughts of those times for us who lived them are sort of a buffer against what we are living now. I’m glad you took the time to tell us of your childhood during that too brief period.
thx, Betsy … I only hope most kids are having equally magic childhoods these days, despite the influence of gadgets and smart phones and such
I reckon most of us here can remember when a McDonalds hamburger was 15 cents and the golden arches sign said “Over 1 million sold”. Back then we kids thought McDonalds was a real treat!
My first part time job was working at Gino’s in 1965 in Baltimore.. Gino’s Hamburgers (mid-Atlantic equivalent of McD’s) was started by Gino Marchetti of Baltimore Colt’s fame.
Hamburger 15c
Cheeseburger 19c
Gino Giant (like a Big Mac) 45c
French Fries (made from potatoes in each store, not frozen) 10c reg. 20c large
Fountain Drinks (Coke, Root Beer, Orange) 10c reg. 19c large
Milkshakes (choc, vanilla, strawberry) 29c
yep, Gino’s in the Philly / SE Pennsylvania region too
my first fast-food burger, ketchup, yellow mustard, and a dill pickle slice as I recall
Yes. I worked there two and half years. Paychecks came from A&G Foods, based in King of Prussia, PA. A&G stood for Ameche-Gino, both ex-Colts, who created a restaurant empire for a couple decades.
Went to Gino’s many times when I was young. I lived in York. Loved those hamburgers. Lived next to the hi school and welding school for adults so got many soda bottles. Lots of penny candy!!
👍 👍

You haven’t seen anything until you saw the Ramones live. What a show, buzz saw guitar for two plus hours.
Technically I did, they did a small show for the grand opening of the Mall @ Union Station in Indianapolis back in the 90’s. It’s not like they were putting on a big concert or anything…just a draw to check the place out.
I was disappointed, they were definitely not into it either. They did not seem to have much security either, one of them walked by me… could have talked to him or asked for autograph but no one seemed inclined to do so, including me.
While Amtrack is still there, the mall is not, another mall was opened downtown and put it outta business, poor location for both of them.
They had a Hooters and a couple of high end steak places that I ate at once, but hard for me to find a reason to trek into downtown for it.
Welcome to Cursday, a tidbit from across the pond, as I remember that the now King, in his earlier years, had a yellow lab named “Harvey”.

What To Renounce
We have renounced the hidden things of shame… —2 Corinthians 4:2
Have you “renounced the hidden things of shame” in your life— the things that your sense of honor or pride will not allow to come into the light? You can easily hide them. Is there a thought in your heart about anyone that you would not like to be brought into the light? Then renounce it as soon as it comes to mind— renounce everything in its entirety until there is no hidden dishonesty or craftiness about you at all. Envy, jealousy, and strife don’t necessarily arise from your old nature of sin, but from the flesh which was used for these kinds of things in the past (see Romans 6:19 and 1 Peter 4:1-3). You must maintain continual watchfulness so that nothing arises in your life that would cause you shame.
“…not walking in craftiness…” (2 Corinthians 4:2). This means not resorting to something simply to make your own point. This is a terrible trap. You know that God will allow you to work in only one way— the way of truth. Then be careful never to catch people through the other way— the way of deceit. If you act deceitfully, God’s blight and ruin will be upon you. What may be craftiness for you, may not be for others— God has called you to a higher standard. Never dull your sense of being your utmost for His highest— your best for His glory. For you, doing certain things would mean craftiness coming into your life for a purpose other than what is the highest and best, and it would dull the motivation that God has given you. Many people have turned back because they are afraid to look at things from God’s perspective. The greatest spiritual crisis comes when a person has to move a little farther on in his faith than the beliefs he has already accepted.
WISDOM FROM OSWALD CHAMBERS
Jesus Christ reveals, not an embarrassed God, not a confused God, not a God who stands apart from the problems, but One who stands in the thick of the whole thing with man.

PLEASE PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ.
AMEN.
Verse of the Day for Thursday, September 15, 2022
✟
“For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.”
Psalms 12:5 (KJV)
Thank You, Jesus, for blessings received and prayers answered!!!
BE MY VOICE
BABY LIVES MATTER
JESUS LOVES THE LITTLE CHILDREN
Today’s thoughts on the grief across the pond:
Looking at pictures of the Prince and Princess of Wales ‘walkabout’, I am touched by the number of older people, as evidenced by those with grey hair. Truly the older generation will have stories to tell…and the mom’s with their children who were privileged to get a chin tickle.
And wishing wellness and a reminder ‘not to lock your knees’… for the guard who fainted while standing guard at the Queen’s coffin.
I felt so bad for that Guard. It happens on occasions like this. And yes, the crowds are incredible. The line to walk past her coffin is now 4.5 miles long, a 9 hour wait. But people wait.
I was especially moved by seeing an older gentleman of around 85 walking past, his legs bowed. It must have been hard for him, but he waited for who knows how long to pay his respects. And, as you noticed, he wasn’t the only pensioner to do so.
Thank heavens that Britons recognize their historical treasures. And it is a point I made on the thread yesterday about the lovely service at Whitehall, which Sundance so graciously included in the many threads he posted yesterday and the days before.
Some commenters have been vocal about the perceived unsuitability of Charles to be king, not realizing that his position has no power. Yes, he can speak privately, but not publicly, and I expect his influence on policy will be minimal.
It is about the institution of the monarchy which underpins the whole of Britain and has done for the thousands of years of its history, and the magnificent traditions which accompany it. I can’t think of another country which has such glorious and continuous celebration of that history. This is what people there recognize and revere, as well as a woman who by a quirk of fate will have an Age named for her and her service and duty well executed.
That age will be recognized as the Age of Elizabeth the Faithful, I am reading. I believe it is appropriate to style her long reign with that name.
I’m going to disagree on that statement a little bit.
From what I have read from knowledgeable sources the crown still does have power by law. Just because the queen never exercised her prerogative to use some of those powers does not mean that those powers are not still there. Per the law, as I understand it, without Royal Assent no bill parliament passes can become law. The crown has veto power over laws, and certain cabinet minister appointments if the sovereign chooses to use it.
