According to The Boston Globe, officials in Martha’s Vineyard are holding an emergency meeting to deal with the crisis of 43 illegal alien arrivals, including one four-year-old child. The group arrived via a chartered flight dispatched by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
According to state representative Dylan Fernandes, “when you look at the limited housing options on Martha’s Vineyard, as I’m sure many of the folks here are aware, it’s likely we’re going to need an off island location.” As noted by the Globe …”a Zoom meeting has been scheduled for emergency management officials from the island along with people from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency to discuss the next step for the immigrants.”
(Boston Globe) […] Fernandes also strongly condemned DeSantis and Governor Greg Abbott of Texas for sending the migrants to the Vineyard.
“To use women and children as political pawns is cowardice. Governor DeSantis is a coward,” Fernandes said. “Their communication on this, Governor DeSantis’s on this, was to jump on Fox News and beat his chest about how tough he is on immigration. It’s inhumane. It’s depraved.”
DeSantis defended the move in remarks to reporters on Thursday during a briefing at Northwest Florida State College.
“Every community in America should be sharing in the burdens. It shouldn’t all fall on a handful of red states,” he said. Other states “don’t like it as much when you get just a small, small, small amount compared to what these folks have dealt with in Texas and in other states.”
Florida’s message, DeSantis said, is that it’s not “a sanctuary state.”
“Now what would be the best is for Biden to do his damn job and secure the border,” he said.
Susan Church, a prominent immigration lawyer based in Cambridge, said a team of attorneys in Massachusetts is working with advocacy groups including the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Economic Justice to interview the migrants and determine whether they’d be eligible for victims of crimes visas, based on reports they were coaxed into getting on a plane under the pretext that their paperwork would be expedited.
“They were duped in to getting on to the plane,” said Church, former chair of the New England Chapter of American Immigration Lawyers Association. “This is akin to kidnapping.” (read more)
While the apoplexy and pearl-clutching from the condescending and sanctimonious democrats is political fuel for ridicule, at the end of the day these transports of illegal economic migrants, illegal aliens, is not a solution.
Desperate times do call for desperate measures, and we desperately need to see the southern border secured, immediately. If the transports lead to backlash from Democrat officials and politicians, and that hypocrisy leads to facing the reality of the border crisis created by Joe Biden, then perhaps something positive can come from this approach.
I find myself torn between seeing this as a political gimmick yet understanding that some shift in the national narrative is needed. If this approach delivers that shift, if more people wake up to the border crisis, then something positive could be gained. However, at the end of the day these unlawful migrants are people.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis answers questions earlier today:
So, anyone talking about Lindsey Grahams Federals fifteen week abortion ban? No? Desantes single handedly seized the narrative and forced it onto the border. With two planes and fifty illegals. My man.
FLG.
Proof Lindsey Graham is a deep state. Families struggling to live and he brings this up to cause turmoil. Want him OUT if we gain control in November
The “unlawful migrants” may be people, but they are people who broke our laws to get here and are therefore criminals.
Using them as political pawns and lavishing them with benefits is not harsh treatment.
Maybe lock them up like the J6 prisoners and then talk to me about harsh treatment.
For what it’s worth, DeSantis’s intensely gutsy move here seems to blow up the idea that he’s just another RINO in disguise.
Either that, or he’s putting on one heck of an act to look presidential to Trump supporters and other sensible people who recognize that our currently open border to the south is disastrously open. I guess you can never rule anything out, but am I really supposed to presumptively believe, after his COVID opening-up moves, the Disney spat, the attorney firing, the school legislation, and other moves, that he somehow would become a squish and a deep-state sucker if elected President?
Great Governor, not ready for prime time though.
Go back and read Sundance’s article about DeSantis from two weeks ago.
I have read the post from August 12. I’m not convinced.
Sundance’s primary complaint is about DeSantis not “speaking out” as timely or as forcefully as one might expect after the Mar-a-lago raid. I think there’s a good chance that Trump or Trump’s peeps suggested that DeSantis lay low, esp because the out-of-control FBI might interpret an aggressive statement as aiding and abetting alleged lawlessness or demonstrating a lack of interagency law enforcement cooperation (in other words, “Keep your hands clean, Ron, you don’t need to get dirtied by this.” We’ve got this.”).
I’m also puzzled by sundance’s belief that Charlie Kirk and TPUSA have gone RINO. From what I can tell, Kirk’s columns during the past month don’t indicate any softening.
I’m not saying Sundance is wrong about either gentleman. But as noted, if he’s right, DeSantis has been pulling on a hell of an act, and since August 12, hasn’t stopped. And Kirk hasn’t let up either.
Governor DeSntis is a spectacular Governor.
But, the republican uni-party along with the dems, deep state, globalists & other sheer evil players would destroy him post haste!
They couldn’t be happier to see the division he is already causing.
There is only one President Donald J. Trump & this time he’ll be prepared for the depraved evil that is DC.
Even he couldn’t have grasped the magnitude of evil living large. Who could have, it was so well protected & hidden.?
call Edgerton town office. I had a lot of fun with those folks yesterday, Especially since I’m from Florida.
Yes, the illegal aliens are people. People that need to go back where they came from.
And if they want to come to the US, do it the right way.
Keep sending them to the Vineyard. Send them by the thousands and to every other progressive liberal stronghold in America. Totally disrupt their lives and homes. Let them live by the rules they support
I like seeing them fill up MV but illegals do need to go home. Let’s make the MV illegals lowest priority.
We need a full time out on all immigration. ‘The right way’ tugs at heartstrings and stirs fond memories and a few teardrops regarding Ellis Island. We have over 330M people today. We. Are. Full.
More legal immigration just begets more illegal immigration. The nation has been overrun and flattened by over immigration.
We do not need the labor we do not need more people . Overpopulation has helped keep wages flat and reduced opportunities for US citizens in the job market, both lower and high pay scales.
Time to stop it all and begin deporting the tens of millions of illegals in our midst.
But we can deport the MV illegals last and work up a diversity program for them in the meantime (eg several flights from e St. Louis or Gary in).
As Saul Alinsky once said, make the enemy live up to its book of rules…
Maybe some of these illegals could use Obama’s compound on Martha’s Vineyard in the interimjchy
officials in Martha’s Vineyard are holding an emergency meeting to deal with the crisis of 43 illegal alien arrivals, including one four-year-old child. “Can anyone find a diaper for the four year old?”
That one made me hork up my breakfast in a fit of laughter
“when you look at the limited housing options on Martha’s Vineyard, as I’m sure many of the folks here are aware, it’s likely we’re going to need an off island location.”
“Just get them off the island anyway you can”
Islander interview: “And then they were walking around, touching things, they went into a restaurant and asked for a coke, they sat on a bench. It was ghastly, just ghastly!!! I mean I care about them as much as anyone, but I never thought I would have to actually see them in my town.
Send more and flood them with these sparks of devinity who queen nancy does not want in her neighborhood as well.
Sundance is just frosty because this raises DeSantis’ profile as he gears up for a Presidential run. It’s high time the individuals responsible for the situation we are in face the consequences of their policies. Is it a gimmick? Of course it is. However, it’s an effective one. More of these gimmicks, please.
Perhaps CNN,MSNBC, etc. would be more to your liking. Nothing “frosty” about FACTUAL information, rarely accessible these days.
Thank you Sundance for the great job you continue to do. Facts matter; gimmicks & politicking are fools play divide & further .They will further destroy this nation, so in need of a FEARLESS LEADER aka President Donald J. Trump.
In my opinion, look at the end result objectively.
Abbott and DeSantis are both posturing… assisting the problem (moving migrants further into the interior at taxpayer expense) and actually spinning it into a political positive.
Genius actually.
I feel that Sundance might have gone further down this road but so many folks get weird when you suggest DeSantis might be less than authentic.
Both sides of the aisle have had control of Washington during the past ten years and neither side has done anything but leave the border faucet running wide open. President Trump won on the issue of immigration and don’t think our enemies don’t know it. The MAGA blueprint is out there if you want to duplicate, imitate, or fake your way to affection.
Republicans only care about immigration before an election. They will never make a single effort to resolve it.
And I’d add that every time they send them to a sanctuary city, all I see and read is housing/humanitarian crisis.
Crisis is the magic word that leads to emergency… and we all KNOW that western gubmints love those emergencies and the powers they grant.
Draw your own conclusions.
“Limited housing options”…what?
There are all kinds of housing options.
Texas has to deal with millions of them over the last year or so. Florida several thousand if not hundred thousand. Martha’s Vineyard has to deal with 43 and they wet themselves over it. Guess we know just how badly they care about people. Only the rich ones.
You forget Arizona and New Mexico are getting a huge influx of illegals also.
And once they resolve this 50 send 100 more.
It’s what’s been done to border States for years.
Yes, these illegals are people. They didn’t need to come here. They need to stay in their own countries and fight for their freedom, rights and economic survival in their own countries; not come here looking for free handouts.
Of course it’s a political gimmick. But one progressive sanctuary enclaves are desperate to stop. They want no share in the negative consequences of allowing hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens to pour across the border at will (that’s for the border state rednecks and rubes to deal with and deservedly so). They want the benefit of cheap foreign labor-on-demand to facilitate their lifestyles. They want to assume the sanctimonious mantles of enlightened progressives who trumpet that no human being is illegal and all are welcome without ever having to put those principles into practice.
Well, screw ’em. It’s way past time for them to share the pain and be shown up for the hypocrites they are. Do I feel some discomfort about using people as pawns in a game of chicken? Yes, but not nearly the level of discomfort I feel about those same people who for whatever reason apparently consider it their right to flaunt our laws and enter and remain in our country illegally at will and without consequence.
Revenge is best served cold! Smooth move Ron!
A dish served cold!
If they would only get rid of single family zoning and build more multifamily housing they could become more diverse. This is what the leftist Minnesota politicians are pushing so why not MV?
By the way, Edina MN and west Bloomington MN are mostly white democrats and need a few bus loads of persuasion. Bloomington MN even used the term “We Welcome All” for many years. The city council and school board published a joint statement on immigration in 2017 and the first sentence states “We believe diversity is one of our greatest strengths. We welcome a community that is a rich and beautiful tapestry of national origin, ethnicity, race, religion and other diverse identities.”
I wonder what they would say after a few deposits of diversity?
Oh Boo friggin Hoo to Martha’s Vineyard and her Legal residents who put that sign saying they welcome all people.
What a bunch of hipocrites. I hope Arizona, Texas and Florida ALL send plane loads to that vacation island.
Not In My Vineyard.
Send them another 500.
he should be sending planes every day
