Comrades, a heatwave hit the Colorado region Tuesday with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees.
Indoor temperatures began climbing, and when formerly free-range residents attempted to adjust their air conditioning, they discovered they were locked out from control in their own home as the power company took over.
(Denver ABC7) – […] when thousands of Xcel customers in Colorado tried adjusting their thermostats Tuesday, they learned they had no control over the temperatures in their own homes.
[…] “I mean, it was 90 out, and it was right during the peak period,” Talarico said. “It was hot.” That’s when he saw a message on the thermostat stating the temperature was locked due to an “energy emergency.”
[…] Xcel confirmed to Contact Denver7 that 22,000 customers who had signed up for the Colorado AC Rewards program were locked out of their smart thermostats for hours on Tuesday. (read more)
Comrade Citizens, it is important that we support the needs of the energy collective. All good thinking citizens put the needs of the state ahead of their selfish desires.
As the national energy emergency now begins to unfold, the officials in charge of energy resource equity remind everyone how critical it is to remain compliant with all ministerial energy objectives. Compliance is expected from all correct thinking citizens.
As long as you remain compliant, there is no reason for concern. Do not attempt to adjust your household allocation of energy. Energy advisors will be made available for enhanced personal education to explain the benefits of our Green New Deal. Your cooperation is appreciated Comrades. Please report any non-compliant energy consumers to your local energy enforcement agency.
Smart meters. They did that here in California a number of years ago. We refused it. Supposedly it was implemented so they could read the meter without walking up to it.
The power company was more devious here. (Tulsa, OK). All the “smart meter” propaganda came through the mail and was promoted in local media.
No problem, I just said “no thanks” I was told it was my choice.
Couple of months later a knock at the door, guy from the power company.
“Sir I need to shut the power off for about 10 minutes.”
“Why?”
“Gotta change your meter out”
“Why?”
“It went Bad, but you get the new smart meter”
Somehow Cousin Eddie and the phrase “Bingo” came to mind.
They just put it on my house..drilled through my bricks.
It was voluntary. Just like the jab was. If you don’t voluntarily accept the smart meter, you’re voluntarily choosing to disconnect your power from the power company’s systems.
They’re a private organization, after all. Corporations are people too, and can’t be forced to give you power. If you don’t like it, find another electric company/house/job/bank.
Better yet, it’s a free country. Build your own power company/house/job/business/bank.
Same thing happened here. I told them no you can’t change it.
(SoCal)
I’m really surprised they haven’t pulled this nonsense here yet. I don’t even have AC, so no skin off my nose. I know they do the rolling brown outs but I haven’t been hit by that either, knock on wood. I’m leaving as soon as I find a house in a freer state.
City replaced my analog meter with a digital meter(smart) ,just this week. Told by the installer ,will have the abilty to read the meter from the office.
… will have the ability to read the meter from the office.
Did the installer also tell you about the reduction in your rate because they would no longer have to send a meter reader out to your house and at least some of the savings would be passed on to you? No need to answer. I already know that not only will you not receive a reduction, your rates (like all the rest of us proles) will skyrocket … you know, to compensate for their convenience of being able to read the meter from the office. It’s the new normal: less service for more money.
They do not call it ‘SMART’ for no reason!
I live in California. I think I have a smart meter (at least it’s digital), but I never asked for it. So, no choice.
Xcel Energy gave us no choice in the matter. They just replaced our old meter on our Denver home with the “Smart Meter” one day. As we don’t have central air (getting by with fans and a portable swamp cooler), we’ve evaded this extra bit of bribed tyranny for now.
Of course you had a choice. You could voluntarily continue service with Xcel and get/use the smart meter, or you could voluntarily terminate your service with Xcel and have nothing at all flowing through the smart meter. Either way, it was Xcel’s equipment (you don’t own the meter, or the line up to your house, etc).
Don’t act like you have a right to someone else’s electricity. They don’t have to provide it to you. They have the hand of the almighty government backing them up, with F-15s and nukes. What do you have?
Be a good little wagie and go back to your pen.
/sarc
I remember that Technocracy guy, Patrick Wood, warning about this years and years ago. And I recall Devvy Kidd, who lives in TX, fighting the smart meters there.
Not so, in Houston, Texas several years ago. No new smart meter? No power, period. “Safety” and all… It’s weird, I started getting really sick, like having to quit working, disability type sick (but denied disability because nothing was ever “diagnosed”) around that time. Never put 2 and 2 together until we moved really rural 5 yrs ago. Haven’t felt this good in over 15 yrs.
HAL and SKYNET at your service in Colorado. LOL you fools, your kalifornication is now complete.
Not by choice for most of us.
Same for most of the Western states. Corrupt elections all the way around.
Corrupt elections and the dumbing down of education by leftists.
100% correct!
Take time to watch (s)ELECTION CODE. Open your eyes all Coloradoans!
PA changed to SMART about 10 years ago, maybe more.
They forced their way into your house and installed the spying devices???
They already have Alexa, Siri and Smart TVs for spying on households. They dont need to use force.
/s
You don’t need the /s.
Samsung teevee’s also have the amazing ability to be completely pirated.
If “they” want to watch you, they can use your Samsung –even when it *appears* to be turned off.
And, yes, our smart meter was installed (OKC suburb) during Mary Fallon’s admin. No permission asked or granted.
I took apart my Samsung TV to fix the LEDs when they burned out. 2017 model. No cameras were found and I looked thoroughly. Unless their somehow built into the screen display (which you can also purchase aftermarket) and no special power connections. I’ve also disabled the voice detection.
BTW, I fixed my “broken” $1000 TV for $35. YT for the WIN!
They are outside, at least in my case.
It’s on the outside of our houses..we own eight properties..no one comes to read meters. SW PA and FL.
Colorado is fast becoming as bad or worse than CA.
“Xcel confirmed to Contact Denver7 that 22,000 customers who had signed up for the Colorado AC Rewards program were locked out of their smart thermostats for hours on Tuesday. “
Just wait until participation in this program is no longer by choice but mandated if you want power.
22,000 that signed up were impacted. I wonder how many total signed up?
Eventually everyone will get a Smart Meter whether or not they signed up for one.
Smart Meters are the new normal.
Much easier to have our electicity usage dictated to us.
There are analog methods to fix this. A heater or incandescent light bulb placed next to the AC thermostat should remedy this. In winter an ice pack or a chilled dish of water and a fan could suffice. If you have access to the sensor, you can change the environment around it to match your preferences.
If the dummies who signed up for that program can’t get out of it they’ll have to buy some window AC units. There goes the savings.
The Gal and I were just joking about this. I said: “F U Big Brother! I’ve got window units!” Then I realized…They’ll phase out the sale of units they can’t control.
“You’ll own nothing and like it!” – was not a haphazard statement. We need to listen to the Davos crowd when they tell us their plans.
So we need to: crush our enemies, see them driven before us, and hear the lamentation of their members that identify as women!
That is exactly what our enemies dont expect us to do.
They believe we do not have the intestinal fortitude for it.
Are they correct?
That’s where the smart power meters come into play. Push a button back in the office . No power!
They don’t need smart meters to shut off your electricity.
We learned this in the “Great Texas Freeze 2021”. People died. Probably the point.
Yup….they are happy to promote their plans…..if only most people actually listened like the Davos crowd was discussing Smith Barney*.
*A nod to John Houseman.
I feel like stockpiling some window ACs just in case! Do you think they can “go bad” if you let them sit in the boxes for 5-10 years? 🙂
I just realized I feel like I’m in Fahrenheit 451 except the stuff I want to hoard isn’t books.
I imagine your energy use will be monitored. Exceed what you are allowed and a shutdown will be triggred automatically.
Or post a “divisive” comment on social media…points deducted.
Just like the Tide commercials – you can save $100 PER YEAR washing in cold water – F THAT!!!!
Tucker Carlson said it best a couple of nights ago. The leftists lunacy was exposed so well that I had to laugh!
I’m glad this spectacular flop in California is occurring just before a major election. But the dummies will still elect Newsom.
In the end though, this whole thing is a means for the elite to end our personal autonomy. THEY will didctate what car you kind drive (if you can afford it) and will ALSO dictate WHEN you can drive it.
IF they remain in control.
They won’t.
Still, half the republicans or more aren’t much better, if at all.
Yes, encouraged to buy electric vehicles but told not to charge them because of the danger to the grid! LOL!
It’s like the Dems don’t even care that they contradict themselves on a regular basis.
My 2019 Subaru, 25000 miles broke down the day I was approved for a lease purchase.the engine seized..I picked it up last week after 9 weeks in the shop, made it 5 miles and again the engine shut down..I swore it had a kill switch on it.lol
The plan is to force most back to the city, cars will be irrelevant. That is why the Democrats are NOT worried much about everybody plugging into the grid. Besides another virus or two will kill off more along with the declared Biden food shortage and energy shortages.
Or are they REALLY electing Newsom….? We should be skeptical of those things.
Bullshit. Quit blaming the people for the corrupt politicians.
Elect or Select?
At 11:09, Buttboy said “The more pain we are all experiencing from the high price of gas, the more benefit there is for those who can access electric vehicles”
What’s more likely, a power outage (or forced shutdown by the electric company) or your state running out of gasoline. I think power outages are far more likely.
Eventually EV owners will spend more time with an idle vehicle than driving one due to a scarcity of electric power.
It’s another stupid comment from a stupid person.
Right now, there are ~720,000 registered electric vehicles in the USA
Compare that to the total number of registered personal vehicles which stands ~289,500,000.
And they want all electric by 2035? IMPOSIBLE! Another pipe dream lie from the Lunatic Leftists (LL).
Do you think they don’t KNOW that? They absolutely do. Just like spending billions on highway charging stations every 50 miles. Those billions are removed from your wallet and end up in theirs.
Something tells me that these “emergencies” are about to become a lot less rare.
Something tells me that the Xcel CEO’s house is nice and cool.
or burnt to the ground.
If this goes on much longer, even I will lose my cool. No pun intended there, but now that I think about it I am at my peak crankiness when I’m hot and sweaty.
Another reason for people to hate on each other. Just pushing fir a revolt, so they can declare martial law and really get their party started.
Yessiree!
He is part of that Exclusive Club George Carlin told us about.
Yep. We have received slightly over our average precipitation for this time of year, but the National Weather Service continues to act like we are in a severe drought. I have seen severe drought years where there was far less meddling with water use than we have experienced this year. Colorado has become a political cesspool and our uneducated population just blindly goes along with every new scheme the “authorities” foist upon us. It is past time to stop trusting the Government, since they have been behaving like Big Brother for about 20 years already.
20 years? With a few exceptions, since the Civil War.
You just reminded me of a morning show national weather segment, the weather guy pointed to the northeast and said something very similar to “Last week this area had above-average rainfall but this week they are in the extreme drought category”. I’m not kidding, it went from fine to severe in a week!
WorkingmanPHD: Exactly. Covid-19 Pandemic becomes Energy Crisis-2022. All the same social engineering strategies and tactics are in place. We’ll be confronted with “emergency orders” and shutdowns, exactly as with Covid.
It boggles the mind that so many people can’t see what’s happening to them, or that they are so willing to go along with it when they do. It pains me to admit this but the American population truly is made up of mostly stupid sheeple who will blindly go along with whatever BS they’re told by the government and/or the media scum. Back in the day, every liberal I knew was skeptical of the federal government. What in the hell happened to people?
What happened? I blame it on education system which since the 1960ies has been increasingly become socialist and now communist indoctrination at the expense of teaching reading, writing and sciences. It is systematic dumbing down of the population.
But even older liberals, who back in the day yelled “screw the man” are now the worst (best?) of followers. Can’t blame that on the education system. 🤷♀️ It’s uncanny.
Watch the first few minutes of the 1981 movie called “Early Warning”. Predictive programming
Rush used to talk about how these climate groupies had no idea what conditions they’d need to live under if their beliefs were practiced. Now they’ll know and I’ll bet they won’t like it one bit.
Rush also used to say while living in Sacramento, they mandated solar panels for new construction. He stated they were worthless and the green energy hype was a scam. I miss him.
https://co.my.xcelenergy.com/s/residential/heating-cooling/ac-rewards
How AC Rewards Works
By participating in AC Rewards, adjustments are made to your smart thermostat during the hottest summer days. When the demand for electricity is the highest, you’ll help us manage these peaks and ease the strain on the electrical grid. You’ll be cut back on the time your central air works to cool your home with control events.
Control events may occur anytime during the cooling season. You’ll have the ability to opt out of control events at any time and receive optional notifications of control events, either from your thermostat, mobile device, or web app. On rare occasions, system emergencies may cause a control event that cannot be overridden.
According to other info on that page, they use YOUR internet to allow the thermostat to talk to HAL. I suppose if you turned off your router the thermostat would lock you out, I hope people tried that anyway.
Excellent suggestion. It’s almost time to turn HAL off for good – no cell phone, no Internet connection, and they can keep their “SMART” SPY devices.
C’mon man! You think most people know how to work their internet routers? You think most people actually HAVE their own routers that aren’t supplied by their ISPs?
Most people get the little wifi bundle from their ISP that has everything in one piece, all locked down, and under their control. They can’t change the SSIDs, the channels, the firewall settings, disconnect or block devices, or anything else. And probably wouldn’t know how to even if they could.
I know my current ISP tried that when I signed up for their service. Only needed a modem and I could take care of all the rest of it on my end.
Stuck with Spectrum, but there was no real alternative where I was at the time.
Internet sleuthing will often help you get in to their equipment to disable stuff. If not, really nice and sweet calls to their tech support will probably do the trick.
Even if not, though, set up your own router anyway, and put the world’s most egregious password on their wifi. Just make sure it is as much of a PITA to use as possible. And then only run your info through your network. Set up the firewall on your own router, and just use their gear as a gateway.
Just close that port on your router. Done. It’s not that difficult.
I just checked our Puget Sound Energy company is installing smart readers and has an “opt out” program. “Per Schedule 171, electric and natural gas customers choosing the NCM service will be responsible for the additional charges associated with a non-communicating meter. There will be a $15 Bi-Monthly Service Charge for each NCM and there may be a One-Time Charge for customers who already have AMI equipment installed ($90 per electric meter and $50 per gas meter).”
Imagine being the only person in the neighborhood with AC and hot water!
I predict a surge in sales for room air conditioners in CO.
And gas powered electric generators by the thousands 😂 🤣 😂 🤣 .
At this point, if you don’t have one of those…what have you been doing?
Charging an all electric car uses 4 times the electricity of a home air conditioner. Good luck, comrades.
Kalifornia has already started notifying comrades that the hours for charging electric vehicles may be limited.
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2022/08/california-urges-avoiding-charging-electric-cars-ward-off-blackouts-heatwave-state-loses-solar-power-sun-goes/
What does anyone expect. People constantly try to take advantage of any Goobermint offered program because 80% of the population never read the fine print because they completely trust the Goobermint to always be trying to help, and because most people can’t even understand the fine print if they ever try to read it. In fact, most people can’t even read with cognition anymore.
A heating pad around the thermostat ought to be the response….
Or a blow torch!
Three letters for ya…
B. F. H.
👍
The schools in my district had central control over the thermostats in each school. When my students and I couldn’t take the heat in our room, I plugged in a blow dryer and blew very hot air on the thermostat. Worked like a charm! 😜
MORE Colorado stupidity as an example of what happens to a formerly (somewhat) conservative state when reds fleeing the nests they’ve soiled move there.
I checked and corn IS the third highest value agricultural product in CO behind beef and dairy. I assume that’s because that is what is fed to the cattle to produce beef and dairy products in addition to being used for biofuels.
That exact sign is prevalent throughout every big university town in CO.
Can someone tell me how adding millions of vehicles and lawn mowers and other stuff to the grid will help reduce the number of blackouts and forced reductions?
Hey Ron DeSantis, I hope you’re reconsidering buying all of those electric buses.
fka: More executive orders and mandates should do the trick.
You play stupid games, you get stupid prizes. Everyone loves having their home “online” – til they realize the $20 thermostat that you “manually” set is the best option . Wonder when Ring will turnover video footage to the feds – nevermind – already confirmed. Now the feds have EYES on you too…
We are doomed because of the sheeple.
Not to mention the “convenience” of having Alexa, Echo or Google whatever so you can just ask questions, get reminders, change the TV channel, etc, etc, etc.
Get your OEM manuals. Look at the control terminal strip. Indoor units Jump out R to Y1 and Y2 if needed. Same with outdoor units. Your welcome!
Could you explain to anyone who may need to know this in simpler terms?
Back to the Future: hand saws and buggy whips.
Lockouts, brownouts, rolling blackouts, and yet the Dems want everyone to buy an electric car.
But, but … it’s a dry heat.
Well… what did you think was going to happen when you condemn every form of power that ACTUALLY WORKS… wait till they make gasoline autos illegal and REALLY have to generate power on an unimaginable scale. YOU all better wake up and get rid of the Communistsl
Sundance, that HAL pic and quote seizes the day!
Daisy, Daaazzzyyyy, gimmy yooooouuuurrrreee answuuuur DOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo………….
If you let the government control…..your life remotely…..you deserve the treatment that you’ll get.

I’m looking at ComEd’s information about Smart Meter Connected Devices and how you disconnect them from the Smart Meter (i.e., stop the communication between the Smart Meter and the device):
How do I disconnect my smart device from my smart meter?
To submit a disconnect request:
You have to log on to ComEd to do the disconnection. The Colorado provider is Xcel, I’m assuming their process is similar. The victims should probably try to disconnect their thermostats from the Smart Meters to see if they can regain control of the thermostats. Or update the thermostat with bogus router info.
I also want to point out that Smart Meters on their own probably aren’t a big problem. They do allow the power company to more easily read your usage, and if they really wanted to they could shut off power to your home, they don’t need a Smart Meter to do that.
The problem is the devices connected to the Smart Meters, most commonly thermostats. If you have a Smart Meter but you don’t have anything connected to it, you’re fine. The Smart Meter can only talk to your thermostat if you have a particular type of “smart” thermostat and you register it with your power provider and you connect it. Either don’t have a “smart” thermostat or don’t provide the necessary info to connect it. Use it as a regular old thermostat.
Look into the health risks of smart meters. That’s really the bigger problem no one talks about.
My dads apartment in miami, Fl just installed one of those thermostats that you can control from the phone and took the locks off all the doors and replaced it with keypads. Freaky. I never got “ring” or “nest” cuz it all seemed so “big brother” to me.
You bring up an interesting point. Can Big Brother claim that you “unlocked” your door and allowed them in to search your property if you don’t have complete control of the locks?
Same here.
This reminds me of a particular hacker attack that happened several years ago. A lot of people buy smart devices, like refrigerators or DVRs, and they never change the default passwords. Hackers can commandeer the devices and turn them into bots that send a massive number of requests to selected targets. In the case of this particular attack the hackers commandeered nearly 400,000 devices. The owners of the devices were blissfully unaware.
A botnet responsible for a massive DDOS (distributed denial-of-service) attack was created thanks to weak default usernames and passwords found in internet-connected cameras and DVRs.
The Mirai botnet grabbed headlines last month for taking down the website of cybersecurity reporter Brian Krebs with a huge DDOS attack. Unlike most botnets, which rely on infected PCs, this one used IoT devices to target its victims.
It turns out the botnet was specifically designed to scan the internet for poorly secured products like cameras and then access them through easily guessable passwords like “admin” or “12345.” Last Friday, the botnet’s maker released its source code, and security experts have noticed it’s built to try a list of more than 60 combinations of user names and passwords.
Those combinations were enough to allow the botnet to spread to 380,000 devices, according to its maker, who posted the source code on HackForums. (https://www.computerworld.com/article/3127256/iot-botnet-highlights-the-dangers-of-default-passwords.html)
If you do a search on “DDoS” (distributed denial of service) you’ll find all sorts of news stories about very recent attacks. It’s a big problem.
The landscaper for our neighborhood maintains all yard maintenance. Residents were recently asked to give their WiFi name and password to the landscape company so they could better schedule lawn/plants irrigation…uh… hell to the NO!
What till people realize what those ‘Smart Meters’ really are!
All those that vote Trump have their power shut off? If its possible, at lest we will know beyond a doubt, who is voting in these tyrants. Their lights will be on!
See my comment above. It’s not really the Smart Meter itself that’s the problem, it’s that people have chosen to connect their thermostats to the Smart Meters and register the thermostats with the energy provider which allows the energy provider to have control of the thermostat.
If you have a Smart Meter but nothing connected to it, the Smart Meter isn’t a problem.
I did read your comment. Are you absolutely sure of that!
The device can be removed, but that meter is controlled by another. Remove the device and they remove you from the grid.
I don’t think there’s any power company forcing people to have smart thermostats. They do have the right to install their smart meters though. As long as you don’t have a thermostat that talks to the meter you’re good. If you do have a smart thermostat just don’t configure it to talk to talk to the smart meter.
Smart thermostats are connected to the internet through your router. They don’t talk to your smart meter.
Smart thermostats are connected to the internet through your router, not your smart meter.
“People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both.”
Benjamin Franklin….
Don’t ya just love the euphemism, “smart metering” or the right choice by stupid people.
When I put in my new thermostat MN Xcel called and gave me this pitch about saving energy by shutting down my AC during the hottest hours of the day and I would get a savings. I asked why I couldn’t just set it to do that myself and they said I would get a savings but no discount. They also couldn’t tell me exactly what my discount would be.
I accepted this and told them to go ahead, sign me up. They then said someone would have to come out and “adjust” my thermostat. I again asked for the adjustments so I could make the settings. They told me that unless an employee comes out and gets access to my control I can’t get the discount. They have a device mounted on the house but they told me that isn’t enough.
After a number of attempts to get the settings saying I don’t want them touching my thermostat, they said no. I then asked if they really wanted to save electricity or just get control of my system and they would not answer.
I declined and they haven’t asked me again but now in MN we are getting all our meters replaced with “smart” meters that I can not decline. They claim all these wonderful information bits about my energy usage but I suspect it is more of a control thing. Nothing we’ll be able to do when they manipulate power as it comes through the meter.
Don’t connect your devices to these systems. Program them yourselves and you’ll be fine.
Or as Joe Soucherary says on his radio program, “Minnesota, the state where nothing is allowed!” Burning down police stations is allowed though.
Our energy company texts us to address our thermostat and electricity usage during peak hours of very hot days. It is basically a heads up for conserving. So far that is all we are experiencing.
Scary that they know YOU’RE USING TOO MUCH electricity, in real time.
People can’t complain if they signed up for it.
The only time I use my air conditioning is the hottest part of day while cooking dinner…
A couple of years ago in PA Met-Ed/First Energy put boxes on the AC system so they could control the AC, and told the customers they would get a discount. alot of them had me remove the control mechanism because they were older and could not deal with the AC being off on the hottest days of the year.
How many of the 22,000 really had a problem with losing control of their thermostat? Or were the majority satisfied that what was done was done for the “greater good”? You know that mantra of the WEF/globalists/Euroweenies! Leftists love to virtue signal! Just wondering?
The big green lie is about to get real!!!!
Reminds me of a visit to India about 15 years ago. One of the labs I visited was shut down during the day because of lack of power. The lab AC was turned on in the late afternoon and it took a couple of hours to stabilize the indoor environment and lab equipment to do the necessary work.
Who would have thought that the US would become a 3rd world country under Biden and there are Democrat Green New Deal supporters that are perfectly fine with it too?
The sad part is we have current technology commercially available for the past 20 years that can instantly improve fuel economy by 10-20% in most any gas or diesel engine, while lowering toxic emissions by 85% at the same time The cost to implement is only 20-25% of the fuel economy savings, so one gets paid to save money and produce less air pollution.
No-o-o-o. We have to go to renewable energy because global temperatures are rising, the polar icecaps are melting and the oceans are flooding the coastal areas of the world due to man-made CO2 climate change.
However, reportedly there has been no change in average stratospheric or global surface temps for the past 15 years; but there is reported massive deaths of birds and other animals from solar and wind farms, total energy failures with solar and wind due to weather, natural gas prices at 4 times of just 2 years ago, electrical brownouts or outages across America, and the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Haʻapai volcano just erupted pumping huge amounts of “carbon,” water vapor and sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere.
Strangely, one can find estimates for water and sulfur dioxide but nothing is published for carbon-based molecules (carbon is the 4th most abundant atom on earth) like CO2, CO or various carbonates. I wonder why?
Maybe a little manipulation of data to control the “climate change” and Green New Deal narrative, along the lines of “build back better” and “you will own nothing and be happy?”
Hal…???
I was just watching a show about cold fusion, publically announced in 1989. They did it that way so they wouldn’t be beaten down in secret. But Big oil and gang decimated those two scientists anyway.
It’s pretty obvious to me……
WE are now part of the CCP…Period.
Question is…..How long will this go on..?
When will the trigger come, where we revolt against all that is being jammed down our throats..?
Joe Biden and his cast of Clowns, have delivered this country to the Chinese, on a platter.
F J B
Well sheet, now I know why my body was telling me it was a bit warmer on the couch last night (here in No. Colorado Xcel territory).
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. But I do hope these customers are enjoying that free AM/FM radio alarm clock they got for signing up to have their thermostat monitored 24/7! 📻
Technology and money are both amoral – neither inherently good or bad.
It’s always what people do with them that’s make a particular thing good or bad.
Today it was an emergency and we are controlling everyone’s air conditioning.
Tomorrow’s “emergency” will prioritize power allocation by social credit scores.
Stay Obedient. Stay Cool.
A while back, we bought a little farmhouse outside of town that has a propane tank and well water. Plan is to build a porte-cochere out front and a covered patio out back. Solar panels on both, but not on the house. That way, the roof of the little house will be easier maintained/replaced.
We are prone to weather events where we live. If we have to go without power, or if our parents in the next state have to go without power, we will transfer to the little house.
It will take a little time and more money to get there, but we will.
We recently sold our home that had 4600 sq feet. Before we sold it, we replaced both HVAC units with Mitsubishi models (not wall units). We were told that because they run continuously, they would make for a lower bill. Apparently, the “start up” of the traditional HVAC units is what pulls massively on the grid (if I remember correctly).
I pray that the family who bought our home is realizing the difference in their electric bill from Duke energy in Greenville, SC.
“Customers receive a $100 credit for enrolling in the program and $25 annually, but Romine said customers also agree to give up some control to save energy and money and make the system more reliable.”
wow, so much savings
that’s all it took to have “smart” tech installed
so super smart
My Dad fell for an earlier version of this Xcel program in the early 2000s, and immediately removed himself from it when he couldn’t turn on his AC on a hot day. Most of us here in CO know better and now so do these 22,000 customers.
It’s voluntary, FOR NOW.
Immutable rule: Any device with the word, “smart” in it, is actually a device that is stupid.
Stupid to own…
I’m sure it was strictly coincidence that this happened on the very first day of the shutdown of the Drake power plant in Colorado Springs.
Find out which wires do what and rip the thermostat off of the wall then manually connect the wire; THEY ARE NOT HIGH VOLTAGE AT THE THERMOSTAT
The Internet of Things/Smart Devices is about one thing – CONTROL!
IoT is quickly morphing into the Internet of Bodies (IoB). We’ve already started phase 3.
The hilarious part is that they had NO IDEA that they were suckered into a “smart” thermostat specifically so the company could turn off their system due to energy shortages, incorrect voting patterns, or getting banned from Twitter…
Good to see those Gaia worshipping planet haters get punished though. Sinners.
Well said Hokk. Pretty soon our monitored cell phone discussions, texts, along with our comments online will lead to selective targeting power shortages.
Dirty Bastards.
Whoever sign up for these types of programs that will supposedly save you money, you’re a jerk and deserve this type of treatment.
Have fun sweating in your oven!!!
If you’re getting your power from a grid supply, it is coming for you too. You are not unique. You are not immune.
Thats just it, they make it VERY difficult, or at least give the appearance of being very difficult to resist.
Their two big ‘selling points’ are SECURITY and CONVENIENCE, and its all about the APPEARANCE of security and convenience.
Having spent many years trying to resist, and develop a lifestyle that isn’t dependant, I find their promised security and convenience is largely an ILLUSION.
ITS NOT REAL. But, people “fall” for it, anyway.
The right has spent decades trying to convince people that a) corporations are people, b) the free market (meaning free trade, not an actual free market) will solve everything, and that c) utilities are no different from A and B.
It has always been a lie, although most of them pushing this viewpoint didn’t know it was false. They were hoodwinked too.
When there is no free market or free trade (’cause utilities consist of costly, immovable infrastructure that cannot be repurposed), the utility company for damn sure can’t be a person too. That corporation exists to serve a captive audience, and the ONLY good that can be done is for that captive audience. The “good” of the corporation doesn’t exist. To have that corporation have shareholders, for example, is not just a misunderstanding of terms nor a misapplication of justice, but rather fraud.
Utilities must be regulated. The Tragedy of the Commons cannot be solved if the one who is granted the rights to the solution is not a member of the afflicted community, and cannot be pressured by the community.
In the same way, utilities can never, ever be deregulated. Of course, there’s another really, really big problem in who does the regulating, and who oversees the regulating.
So refreshing to meet someone else who thinks along these lines. Thank you.
Free market was soon expanded by “conservatives” to mean that 200 to 300 billions of Fed tax payer monies would be offered up annually to large corporations to assist them in going overseas. Mom and Pop shops were not eligible. But McDonalds and other Titans of the business world were.
Yup, and no one on the right wants to talk about Scalia’s role in pushing the ‘corporations are people too’ nonsense. Citizens United is a terrible decision. Corporations should be kept out of politics altogether and forced to focus on whatever products they provide instead of bribing politicians.
I’m a conservative and I’ve always hated how some people on the right seem to worship corporations.
An interesting manifestation of this mindset is when some people on the right state that they oppose government imposed mask and vaccine requirements, but are totally fine with these same mandates as long as they are imposed by private entities.
I strongly disagree with this mindset. Individual liberty always supersedes the whims of a corporation or any other type of private entity.
I prefer to describe myself as a grassroots, populist, MAGA conservative to differentiate myself from the corporatist “conservatives” who support corporations having such undue power and control over regular people.
The type of corporatist conservatives who support giving corporations such power are likely the sort who view Fox News as their intellectual leader, which is just sad.
I wasn’t signed up for this program. But today I just un-signed up for auto-pay and online bills, too. If they don’t want to deal with paper, I guess I will be making it difficult for THEM.
You are so right…it is convenience and security. There is a new global initiative called The Global Walkout, based up your premise and that an answer to this Reset, is to walk away from those conveniences and false security.
Guys, they believe that resistance is futile.
It is difficult on purpose, what don’t you understand about a communist takeover.
It only took 7% of the population to get rid of the British FYI.
The word ‘convenience’ is overpowering for most. It’s a great selling point. The phone in your hand got there through the selling of “safety” and “convenience”. It’s how the implanted chips are being sold. Been going on for over a decade now. No wallet to keep up with, just wave your hand over the terminal, monitors your health, too. Sweden has a large population of chipped individuals.
I am living off grid. No problem at all. I can even charge an EV if I wanted to (I don’t).
Host my own email server. Use cash, gold and silver coins. Not buying guns and ammo from any FFL or on the internet.
And you just told “them” AND every piece of AI you are connected with when posting your comment.
easy, don’t get a stupid internet connected thermostat. problem solved.
re: “don’t get a stupid internet connected thermostat.”
In the ONCOR system in Texas, the thermostats communicate via Bluetooth to the Smartmeter, the Smartmeter is part of a mesh network at 900 MHz and talks back to ONCOR for control and usage reporting …
Yeah, that’s not how this works. It’s OK to not understand, but don’t try to teach (or pontificate) to others if you don’t.
Last year I installed a wood stove and have a supply of wood from the family farm; my only cost is transport.
I’ve a locked wood shed next door.
“Rewards”
I’m not sure if I’m more revolted by the harsh comment, or the fact that it gained 22 likes in this forum.
Some people trusted the wrong people? Some people made a simple economic mistake and didn’t understand the consequences?
“Whosoever shall say Thou Fool shall be in danger of Hellfire”…
“For with what judgement ye judge, ye shall be judged. and with what measure ye mete, it shall be meted unto you again.”
We should not be hearers of “the word” only, but doers of the word at all times.
I am near Balt. I am in their cycling program They give me $75/year and they can cycle me down up to 75% during peak times if they like. It is a win for me. I have yet to be cycled down this year. Last year I was cycled down one afternoon for a few hours. I wanted to allow 100% cycling down to get the max $100 but my wife said no.
Free money for me. No-brainer.
By the way, I prefer it warm, and even hot. I don’t like A/C. I could live without A/C. We never had A/C in Pittsburgh when I was growing up. I lived in Japan and hardly used the A/C, and it was hot and humid.
