The foreign policy interventionist GOPe crowd (AIPAC lobby) are funding Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo respectively. The GOPe white wine spritzer crowd (inside donor class) are funding the explorations of Mike Pence. And the GOPe Wall Street hedge funds (political insurance experts and short sellers) are betting other people’s money on Ron DeSantis.
There will likely be other fish, but for now that’s the inside crew being financially fed by those who run the Republican Club. Inside the death star, Decepticon Leader Mitch McConnell and the GOPe beltway control agents have contracted for the 2024 reupholstery of the club’s leather chairs, and the mahogany table is being refinished to remove scratches from the crystal brandy glasses that were slammed and shattered in prior bouts of UniParty frustration.
From the perspective of Republican club control, the MAGA rebellion must be crushed at all costs. Control over the mid-term outcome, which may include the intentional losing of key races in order to ensure full retention of club control, now heads into the championship rounds. I was once naive enough to believe Jeb Bush, during his first term as FLA guv, was another such breath of fresh air. DeSantis has shown no propensity for adopting an anti globalist agenda. He’s betting that anti woke will provide enough cover for him to adopt a Pence like agenda on economic issues, especially global ones. There’s no doubt he’s a clever pol, but eventually his underwriters will force him to show himself more clearly to get the imprimatur of the Club.

There is a whole lot we don’t know about DeSantis. What we DO know is anyone who accepts money to campaign is compromised as a result. Unless DeSantis tells his donors and we the people no matter who he takes money from he is not bought, we will know from his donor list what he will support.

I am a lifelong Republican, and have been voting since 1984.
I have only voted Dem twice, in 2008 and 2012, and that was to stick my thumb in the eye of the Republican party after its deplorable treatment of Ron Paul in the primaries. I will add that I never voted for Bush, the Dumber, in 2000 and 2004 because, well, just because…I guess in hindsight, I’m not a very good Republican.

While DeSantis is hugely popular in Florida, he doesn’t affect the rest of the country.
