Since you can’t deport/send back asylum seekers, and the detention space is completely overwhelmed, they are released on their own recognizance into the United States. If they were to enter the US legally at a US Port of Entry, they could demand asylum but be found ineligible, which vast majority are, and be turned back. Because at a POE, even though you’re in the US by a few yards, really you aren’t legally speaking. That’s why they’re entering illegally. Once they’re on US soil, they have due process and you can’t just turn them around (with a few exceptions).
If they bring a kid, then they can’t be separated in detention, then they’re 100% guaranteed to be released into the US. So they bring kids, often not even their own. They rent them. Same kids have been used repeatedly as a “visa” Once whoever has the kid gets to Topeka or Chicago, the kid is put on the airlines back to El Sal, Guatemala, wherever, and used again by other crossers.
