Does anyone remember during the Jimmy Carter era when odd/even days on license plates to get gas? Well, if the International Energy Agency is accurate, and the issue extends into the U.S. as predicted by many industry insiders, we could very well see gasoline rationing once again.
Beyond all the obfuscation, denial and continual pretending, the reason for the gasoline shortages is related to this forcible shift in energy policy that is underway in Europe and the United States. It’s not a shortage of oil, it’s the new era where the Green New Deal is the policy priority. The people within the Biden administration do not care about the consequences, Biden is pushed in front of the camera as a useful idiot to take the blame.
Business Insider – The US could see fuel shortages this summer once people start taking their vacations — and Europe could take a particular hit from the lack of supply, the head of the International Energy Agency has warned.
“When the main holiday season starts in Europe and the US, fuel demand will rise,” Fatih Birol told Der Spiegel. “Then we could see shortages — for example, in diesel, petrol or kerosene, particularly in Europe.”
Birol also told the German newspaper that the energy crisis now underway will be more severe and longer-lasting than the oil price shocks of the 1970s, given it’s applying pressure on three fronts.
“Back then it was just about oil,” he said in the interview published Tuesday. “Now we have an oil crisis, a gas crisis and an electricity crisis simultaneously.”
Oil prices spiked in 1973 and 1979 as the Yom Kippur War and the Iranian Revolution interrupted Middle Eastern crude exports. Geopolitical events have hit the market again in 2022, as western nations impose sanctions on Russia over its invasion of Ukraine. (read more)

I can see the gas stations having to hire “monitors” for gasoline purchases…AND guess who will pay for it with an increase in cost per gallon with a “Green Service Charge”.
I know don’t give them any ideas but my thoughts are, since I am admittedly NOT a genius (I claim ‘average’), TPTB have already thought that one thru. In other words, if I am thinking it, they have already planned it.

After the 1970s it was illegal to export crude. The Omnibus bill of 2015 that made it legal again, has a clause that the President can reinstate the ban by executive order.
When gas goes to $6 a gallon in December, look for Biden to prohibit exports. Then, the US price will be $80 a barrel and the world price will be $200 a barrel.
It’s looking like $6 gas will be here by August. By December it may be $9.
Six dollars a gallon? Here in California it’s $7.50 a gallon for regular and $8.50 for premium in a small Town named Gorda. At my home in Southern California it’s $6.25.

I don’t recall any restrictions with air travel, but back in the 70’s much, much fewer people travelled by air. Busy making a living and annual vacations were not the norm.

In my little town there are several gas stations because a highway goes through the town. I always buy gas at the mom and pop shop rather than the bigger stations. I want to do my part to make sure they can stay alive. They have far more business than the other stations and they are FULL SERVICE.

Yeah but, mom n pop are only making cents on the gallon pumped. It’s a draw to get you into their store. I asked a guy in an independent convenience store about it one time because he had been out of gas for a few weeks. He said, “Not concerned because I’m making barely enough off selling gas to pump it out of the tank.” And the state revenuers here have added on about 47 cents per gallon in taxes. They could give us a spell on the high cost of getting by if they lifted that, but they aren’t going to give that up. 4.299 here, last I checked, prob’ly higher by now. It’s been a while since I bought any, or went out to just cruise the gut in my fair city and wave at the pretty girls, like I used to ;-). Gettin’ too old for skylarking like that anyway.
The little town I live in here in NC had three mom and pop stations within a five mile radius of our home….well, the one that was full service was bulldozed two years ago. Not because of no business, but because the two lane highway is being planned to become a four way….no traffic to speak of.
The other two, one was closed because the underground tanks were ” old”, the one up the road where I used to buy diesel and ethanol-free gas for my Ford van and the yard equipment had the tanks pulled because they were “old”…the store is still there, but now I have to drive fifteen miles, one way, for ethanol-free and diesel.

I worked at a gas station before marriage. Pump the gas, clean the windshield and check the oil. No exceptions.

In the 60’s when I lived with foster parents, they owned a couple Sinclair gas stations…full service and I remember them talking about gas wars, over pennies..seems like it was about 19 cents a gallon. Gosh, that was a lifetime ago….things have changed so much in 60 decades, it’s as different as this country before electricity, the phone, and autos.

My dad was with a MASH unit as a surgeon for 18 months, in front of the front lines, as was put to my mother. You and he could have had some conversations. But when he returned he never ever spoke of his experiences. The older I got and learned the details for that war, I understood.

My friend had a Fiat I believe it was, that had a 5-gallon tank. He got an exemption on the 5-gallon minimum with a letter from the Govenor’s office.
I remember that as well. And just because it was your day, there was no guarantee that you’d actually be able to get gas. More than once the “Last Car” sign was put on my trunk lid; no more cars were allowed in the line that day.

I don’t know how many people realize the scale and scope of what vehicles are able to track. A favorite example I often use is of a rape suspect who was acquitted because his vehicle telemetrics recorded when and how many of his doors were opened at a specific time, proving his accusers’ story was false.
There’s also a Ford executive’s admission that the company now makes more money selling telemetric data to advertisers and businesses than on the vehicles’ themselves.
There are good reasons why I do not own a “smart” car. The integrated circuits running all of the hardware can generate a lot of data internally about many operating conditions. Pair that with wireless connectivity and it is too much to resist for building profiles of the driver(s) operating it.
Plus you’ll be charged a pollution tax every time you let one rip into the car-seat.

Yeah, well I got fired from a job because people were stealing gas. They covered their plates with cardboard because they knew I could not call in a police report without a license number. That was in the last months of the Carter admin.
I was in college with a wife and child to support. I wound up going back in the Army in 1982 when the recession hit.
Those were really, really bad times, at least for me and mine But the Army during the Reagan years was a top-notch outfit and I am proud to have served where and when I did.

A plane might leave city A for city B at 8 am, fly out of city B to city C, then fly from city C to city D, and then city D to city E, all in one day. All it takes is a few scattered airports they can fly into but can’t fly out of because they can’t refuel to upset the whole industry. The airlines surely would want to keep any fuel shortages secret, not wanting their customers to be afraid there might not be enough fuel to get back home. So they make up other nonsense about weather, staff shortages, air traffic control issues, and other stuff that is BS on its face.

The time to prepare was years ago. About $30,000 will get you a stellar solar power installation (batteries, panels, inverters) to handle everything.
I have that, and I’m taking delivery of a Polaris Kinetic (look it up) this summer that will transport me to everywhere I need to go. Gas is saved for long distance driving if necessary. I am a bit laggardly in that I only put in a large garden plot (1000 sq ft) this season. I hope things grow.

What prevent Texas from drilling/getting our own oil and using our refineries to produce our own gas for our residents? Honest question, I don’t know how that works.

In a nutshell, permits have to be acquired to do any drilling. Pipeline operations, basically the same thing.
Civil disobedience- have the TX NG meet the federal troops at the state border when the feds come to shut down the oil or gas wells drilled without permits.

If the oil or gas in on Federal land, the local (state) can’t do anything which would be considered legal. The land may physically be in Texas, but the Federal government owns it.
That is a major part of the energy problem. The Federal government is refusing to allow any new extraction on Federal lands and is doing all it can to end any current extraction.
The Federal government owns about 28% of all land in the United States, and almost all of this is west of the Rocky Mountains. Only a map can really convey the scale and concentration.
Texas is all private land except for a few areas (like Big Bend, etc.)

Illinois schools, Instead of docking grades for things like missing class and turning assignments in late, teachers are adopting more lenient policies around things like late assignments and re-do’s on exams. I’m almost afraid to go anywhere far on vacation. What if you are on a 1 or 2 week vacation and suddenly they ration gasoline or jet fuel or both?
I don’t see how odd/even days at the pump would make a single gallon difference in total amounts of gas pumped and used.
