A better solution, I think, is to have all the Dads show up at school with their hunting rifles. Their spokesman can confront the chief uniform and advise hir “We’re going in. You’re not going to interfere. You are going to be told this just once: step aside.” If any attempt is made to arrest the spokesman, each Dad dispatches the closest two uniforms, then the assault on the school commences.
Great solution – and parents all over the country need to organize now with this plan for just this situation.

I was a Watch DOGS (dads of great students) walked the halls all day, played in gym class, sat in on classes, as a dad looking over all students. I would be reluctant to carry with kids but I would in these times. Why not now? There are way to many answers to this problem besides confiscation of our rights. Yes the cops deserve to be vilified and school staff scrutinized very closely … yet from start to finish this whole thing stinks.
I have been to multiple elementary schools and day cares in 2 different states to pick up grand kids and wife after she was done teaching for the day. There were always 2+ layers of locked doors in place even during a normal school day between the outside and the kids; the exterior doors and classroom doors. In the State of Texas this is required and schools drill on this on a monthly basis, while School District Staff are supposed to do even more checks during each month. Teachers are trained and even “reprimanded” for not following policy.
That mom who rushed in to save her kids should have encountered a LOCKED DOOR when arriving at location of her child, with teacher trained to NOT OPEN it.

Consider this …… it was 8 July 2016 when terrorist opened fire on Police in Dallas, TX. We all saw the videos, with police turning and advancing into the fire.
During the intervening 6 years … we have witnessed defunded police departments, prosecution of police officers doing their duty in sham trials, police ordered to stand-by while cities burn, kneeling Federal LEO’s plus surely the recruiting and training as well as leadership changes that lead us to officers “waiting 60 minutes” outside the school in Ulverde.
Yet, contrast this scene with numerous other CURRENT news reported incidents of police willingly responding to equally dangerous situations, not waiting for back-up.
I do not mean to excuse the behavior of these officers and men. There are evil forces at work behind scenes pulling the strings and law enforcement at all levels has been co-opted to comply.
The contrasts are too apparent to ignore. Officers willing to “rush in” and recognized for it in the news vs “following policy or being willing” to NOT rush in, we see in this seen.

There were over 600 students in the school..something is very off with this story. The Fox interview with the grandfather of the shooter was very strange…and when was the grandmother shot..how much time between her shooting and the kid entering the school..as reported the kid was on the grounds of the school 12 minutes before entering through an unlocked door..
Ramos barricaded himself in the classroom. He was not being “contained” by any of the cowards on site.

This will not be a popular comment but over time I’ve seen law enforcement and military, as well, morphing toward versions of government worker/tsa type security.
Law enforcement is a government job with benefits and pension. There is little accountability and it’s a job for life with little incentive to do anything above average.
The game is to keep the pond smooth, don’t offend anyone, fill out the annual review, keep the job, and put in 20 or 30 years and max out the pension.
As private sector jobs have gotten worse over time (flat wages no more pensions) these govt jobs are more attractive. Further, government does not hire competence they hire diversity, with inevitable consequences.
This is not a comment on one person or group but it’s how the government blob system of mediocrity and benefits for government workers has evolved and dragged down everything.
I saw the same in my particular field of expertise; it is connected to government and it is now characterized by mediocrity lethargy incompetence conformity and boredom.

Federal workers obsess over these things. Everyone knows stories of federal workers who spend weeks calculating how to and the exact date for optimizing their benefits and pension.
Most of them spend 10x the amount of time doing this than thinking of creative ways to do their job better.
Who can blame them. Fed govt bureaucrats care mainly about spending the entire budget every year and increasing FTEs at every opportunity.
No one gets rewarded for doing more efficient work for less money. Fed employees learn quickly to not stick their nose out, keep a low profile, and keep getting paid.
Police depts surely have a similar mindset.
Just like Columbine. The police were outside in dress-up while victims bled out. Maybe this answers the question about why gun sales are up. You cannot depend on the police to act and you cannot depend on the system to intervene when people start acting crazy.
25 years in state police here. After Columbine, training was changed (it took awhile but…finally) to ensure cops didn’t wait for heavily armed SWAT teams to arrive. You are to gather up the first cops that show up. It doesn’t matter if they’re not from your department, etc. Even if it’s just you and one other cop, you ENTER THE BUILDING by whatever means necessary. If you don’t have a key, shoot the door open, climb in a window, etc. Gain entry whatever it takes. Once inside, go to the sound of the gunfire and take action. Stop the threat, kill the a** hole who is killing innocents, save whoever you can. If nothing else you take the attention of the murderer from innocents on to you. The concept isn’t easy but, very simple.
Unfortunately good LE such as yourself have been purged….I lost faith in cops after COVID seeing police brutalize citizens for daring to going maskless or letting their kids play at neighbors homes during lockdowns.
That’s weird, because I personally never *saw* the police harass people to comply with lockdowns or masks during Covid. What I saw instead, was a barrage of staged, TV soundbites to persuade people to self-regulate, replete with sneering Hollyweird “idols,” haughty sports “heroes” and dancing tik tok “nurses.”
I guess the propaganda worked too, because I *did* see my neighbors, coworkers and friends act like complete jackasses, out of an abundance of “caution.” They and their Fakebook friends were very impressed with themselves, virtue-signaling their compliance, even going as far to deny themselves the very air they breathe!

And I *did* see parents shun their own children, barring them from their households if they were being too “social” or, God forbid, showing any signs of illness. I welcomed their children to my holiday dinners and I tenderly cared for everybody who was sick.

Middle school teacher here and believe me, this is frightening to me. About the mom who “ran in” to get her kids – from what I understand, during that hour he was barricaded in the room, they were evacuating teachers and students from other parts of the building. I am sure the mom saw her kids come out and ran to get them. Nothing else makes sense. The part that bothers me the most is how he got into the building and into the classroom if the doors are supposed to be locked. I rehearse my response over and over in my head (and teach my students to throw anything and everything at an intruder), but why were the first two layers of protection gone?
As stated above … I have been going in and out of elementary school buildings for at least 15 years; as a science fair judge, to pick up grand kids and my school teacher wife after work. There were ALWAYS 2-layers of locked doors and open doors were physically manned while the door was set TO LOCK when closed (NO key or action needed to lock it).
Something stinks in this whole situation.
My questions are: the mom who drove 40 miles after she heard of a shooter at the school, runs in to get her children (were they all just sitting at their desks?) but doesn’t take any other kids with her doesn’t make any sense. And where was the shooter when she ran in? Busy killing other kids in a different room? And what were the police doing during the 40 min. it took her to get there? Apparently just standing around. Just like Las Vegas, too many things don’t add up.
My nighttime trade is being a volunteer firefighter and all the cops I know say that you start searching regardless of equipment or backup. Our corrupt politicians have much better security than our children while said politicians are ruining the country.

My understanding is that the police who entered the school initially just evacuated their own children. Maybe that’s incorrect.
the initial police entered and were shot at and retreated outside to wait for more backup – scared to do their paid job. When backup came, some of THEM rushed in to save THEIR OWN CHILDREN and then went outside to safety and prevented other parents from getting their own children.
Proper protocol for this goes all the way back to Columbine incident many years ago. After Columbine the SOP was adjusted to say “Never wait even if not fully protected, RUSH IN IMMEDIATELY” Time is critical to save lives.

There is something a little too Hollywoodish about this whole story. Wasn’t this one of the schools ‘being monitored ‘ by AI? I called BS Tues, Wed, Thurs and my opinion is unchanged on Fri.
Correct. And maybe news reports should also state that (apart from referring to the ‘alleged shooter’) there were 21 shooting victims that are ‘allegedly deceased.’
