Texas Dept of Public Safety (DPS) Official Lt. Chris Olivarez was asked why law enforcement retreated and waited an hour before reengaging the Uvalde elementary school shooter. In his response to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, after an initial few minutes of obfuscation, eventually Lt. Olivarez explains the responding officers could have been shot, if they immediately rushed the gunman.
{Direct Rumble Link} – WATCH:
I mistakenly thought the main lesson from the investigation of the Broward County, Florida, Parkland school shooting was never to wait. Unfortunately, it looks like Parkland and Uvalde will have a lot in common.

Just so we are clear. The supreme court ruled the police are under no obligation to protect you. The role of “law enforcement” is to capture law breakers and gather evidence for prosecution, that’s it. Constitutional carry at all times, they are not going to save you or protect you.
if they’re under no obligation “to protect”, then they better paint over the logos on their cruisers…
Well, they “protect you” by handing out speeding tickets all day long.
They did. The logo used to say “To Serve and Protect – Our Pensions”
You hit the nail on the head Baby El. Unfortunately “Budget Cuts” kept that part off the cruisers.
Take another look. Most cities do not have that logo.
I noticed ‘To Protect and Serve’ was removed from all of their vehicles here over ten years ago.
Most of them have.
I think we all watch cop shows, and they are so brave in situations like this — but, apparently, those are very false!
Life definitely isn’t what you see on your TV set.
Exactly what I said earlier?
Dereliction of duty/ cowardice/incompetence.
The Triangle Shirtwaist fire was so much the crime of the owners Max Blanck and Isaac Harris.
These monsters escaped the fire by going over the roofs.
And they escaped prosecution because the fire escapes were locked. And my god, they didn’t know.
This crime, by the way, occurred in 2011. But gun control, and gun control..
1911 and it was responsible for the creation of labor law safety enforcement in New York State.
back the blue…cowards? in florida at the douglass school shooting they were the same way, they watched people die instead of trying to save them.
this entire country has gone mentally insane
My people are destroyed by lack of knowledge and critical thinking skills.
Social workers not lawkeepers.
Cowards. As a Texan, and kinfolk of 2 TxDPS troopers, I am so ashamed. This does not sound right and I am very suspicious of the FEDs involvement because the Tx DOT Troopers are not cowards or lightweights,,, or at least they weren’t until now.
That’s what I was wondering. I thought how could that happen in *Texas*?!
Something does not add up.
At height of the St George defund movement, neighbors as well as Michelle Makkin were. roughed up at a rally supporting LEOs, while LEOs did nothing.
Indeed. They have been standing down for some time
I remember that. I think Michelle has changed in her attitude towards backing the blue.
No guns because this school was a “No Guns Allowed” school! Those are always easy targets for criminals because they do not have to worry about anyone there shooting back!
For personal consideration, How many baby killing lefties would be needed to be paid-off to achieve something as evil as this?
Seems like less than 5 to me:
That is, assuming the pensioners will blindly “follow orders” and do nothing to abruptly stop the carnage, as in this case.
I honestly don’t know what I would’ve done, as a parent. My first thought upon hearing about the shooting, was where was the protection? Why was the school unlocked/no safety measures at the entrance? why wasn’t there some sort of protection in place for these students!?
I remember having a safety officer at the front door of my high school every day. He parked his police cruiser on the sidewalk in front of the school at all times. He was assigned to protect our school. Every school should have that.
I know for sure that my husband would’ve been running into that building, not caring if he got shot. These are young kids, they need us.
The experiment was just conducted: how many parents rushed in?
This is no different than covid. Edicts/orders are issued and people comply. They bitch, and they comply. The learned restraint is very powerful. Their kids hostage in an active shooting, and they remained restrained. Very powerful. Very compliant. Very much like covid.
I posted in another thread that I would have driven my pickup through the front doors of that school to make a hole for LE.
If NO law enforcement was present when the first parents arrived on scene, does one think that the parents would at some point make entry?
Point being: the presence of law enforcement is a suppression on natural initiative of citizens.
Oh yeah, totally. Parents would be in that school in a heartbeat. Law enforcement shows up and they’re expected to step up. They failed everyone there.
F Cowards.
Just asking: if your job in the Fourth Branch was to stage False Flag operations designed to set the stage for the removal of 2nd Amendment rights, how would you go about it?
The first cop withdrew
Think about that
This is what they signed up for. This would be like a nurse refusing care to a Covid patient because she might catch it and die.
This is getting stinky. If only 3 children had been killed, it would have been a horror response from people but would it have invoked strong reaction to modify gun laws as the Dems want to do? But take 7 times more killed and add 2 beloved teachers and you have a tremendous outpouring of societal angst. Enough to probably get the gun agenda into play. Let’s just stall for time, an hour sounds good. I hope I am wrong.
To me, this just proves we cannot rely upon the police to save ourselves and our right to bear arms will not be infringed in order to do so. Someone armed needed to stop this madman, the government didn’t.
It’s a sad world we live in today. I went to school in the 70-80’s and there were no locked doors OR police/security present at the school because this stuff did not happen. Anyone can go in and out.
It sure made me want to go to the gun range. It’s been a while! Yeah, that trope about when seconds count, the police are only minutes away is not even applicable any more. They are hours away!
Actually it doesn’t matter WHEN they get there since they just stand around when they do.
why does it seem like the fbi and law enforcement are cowards that dont want to take on real bad guys, and only want to harass harmless Trump voters after labeling them white supremacists?
Maybe it “seems” like that due to fake news and people who always believe what they hear? This has been so sensationalized already that I am sure we will NEVER hear the truth.
Seems like an ingenious way to target 2A would be to stage an event that involves undocumented aliens in a border town full of fake Feds, with a script to rival a B Hollyweird movie.
So the word is he was unemployed, 18, living with his grandmother (already we know he is not living with parents). He supposedly had 2 brand new Daniel Defense AR15 rifles, worth almost $5000, as well as ammo and optics. Add to that a $70,000 pickup and body armour. Apparently these rifles are hard to come by and are a favourite of the Feds. Looks like questions need to be asked but they probably won’t be by the MSM
I am relatively comfortable at the moment financially speaking, no way could I drop those monies on high quality firearms like those. Daniel Defense is not a shady outfit by any stretch of the imagination, I know if I tried to buy one online right now, I would have to find a legitimate FFL holder to complete my transfer. There are few if any FFL holders (facing the gun grabbing Junta)who would co-sign for some unknown 18 year old kid without an extensive background check and his history would have precluded him from a legal purchase.
also why would the kid buy top of line AR’s if his intent was to do what he did.. cheaper brand would have sufficed..
Why do these gun companies allow their specific models to be featured in these games?
Gun companies are in the business of selling guns.
I believe it was his dead grandmother’s truck (so I read — who knows!), but the rest are all good questions!
Grandmother is not dead..she was shot through the mouth/cheek..did he use the rifle to shoot grandma??
@AussieJo
2A activist Cannon Hotep did a video asking how an 18 year old could afford such expensive weapons.
Something is up.
My husband said he always wanted to buy a rifle like those but it was too expensive. Truck was impressive too. 18 year old working at fast food place, where exactly did the money come from?
This is a question for journalism 101?
I am Israeli and I pray for all who died, injured and the families. It’s really is heartbreaking.
Hostage rescue requires the highest skill, equipment and character of all.
In 1974 terrorists took a school in North Israel and in a botched rescue attempt by a top Special Forces military unit 25 children were murdered and 6 other people. It shook the nation and after the investigation it was found that while Special Forces are very good, it’s not good enough and we need a special unit that specializes in Hostage rescue and anti terror, a unit that will develop advanced techniques to deal with such extreme situations.
The unit was formed under the Border Police and was made of ex-special forces warriors who were cherry-picked. The unit name is The YAMAM and they have advanced equipment to see through walls, robots and if they enter they have dogs and bullet proof shields. Since then nothing similar ever happened and they changed the balance of forces against terrorists.
They are now the spearhead of all confrontations with terrorist and are a huge success. They have also small units in various cities and can arrive very fast. They did succeed in real life hostage rescue scenarios too.
It’s probably a good idea for the US too. There are plenty of ex-special forces warriors in the US who qualify.
I am attaching here a short old video about this unit.
No offense, but do you know how big the US is? Even the state of Texas? While your idea is great, it is impractical. You’d need a few hundred of these in one state alone.
Well, it won’t be the same but the idea of recruiting ex-special forces for SWAT with a specialty of hostage rescue and active shooters event is possible since the US is full of ex military. They will need helicopters to deploy fast enough. As to budget, the US is spending $53,000,000,000 just in Ukraine so budget for this and for school security shouldn’t be an issue.
Israel was targeted by terrorists long before the USA ever gave it much thought. Your suggestions are valid, although they would require cooperation from a government that isn’t busy instigating terrorist attacks against it’s own people.
Instigating attacks while calling the people the terrorist…
Some times you have to look at the basics.
What I have noticed about law enforcement (for a long time now) is their appearance.
I am 58 years old (with a not so good knee) and when I see some police officers; I think, I can out run them. 🙄
Also cell phones.
You would think that law enforcement would
be an occupation where situational awareness is important. 🤔
Yes..I noticed how old they looked…parents looked old too..
Safety, the destroyer of worlds. The safety dept ruined my company too.
Public schools recently underwent “safety training” in the form of lock out and lock down drills. All it amounts to is sitting in a corner unguarded and waiting for rescue.
Why are we ‘training’ people to just lie down and take it? There are no coincidences. 2A has been in their sites for decades in planning this Great Reset.
As long as good people continue to fall for the propaganda, they will continue to escalate such events. By going along with the narrative, we are in fact rewarding them for their efforts and encouraging more attacks.
The lockdown drill protocol is for teachers to turn out the lights, lock the door to the classroom, and herd the students into one corner of the room telling them all to be quiet. They are all sitting ducks in one area of the room if a shooter breaks in.
My son was horrified at this policy while he was in junior high. He said he would refuse these instructions in a real intruder event. He said all teachers have scissors on their desks, so he would get these and hide behind the door, and once the shooter broke in he would attack him once he stepped into the room. He would get other students to hide with him with books, chairs, etc., to attack the person with him. He said at least I wont be waiting in a corner to die.
It’s a sad, sad, world.
There is a point where the theoretical approach overwhelms reality. I took an extensive OSHA class years ago, where I was told that the adhesive on stickers deteriorate the structural integrity of a hardhat. At the end of the two day seminar, I was given an OSHA sticker to put on my hardhat.
So you were the guy who made my employees blood run cold when you showed up on the jobsite with a clipboard and a urine screen!
The lack of intestinal fortitude here is criminal.
There was no reason that these LEOs involved in this did not realize they had the numbers in their favor.
And most of them probably had body armor.
A semicircle formation with the perp targeted and on a agreed upon signal, advance and start shooting.
Instead, I read the the LEOs were afraid of getting shot. I hope none of the so called LEOs were former military.
I am ex USAF, SAC and then Oregon Air National Guard. I couldn’t live with myself if I had been there and not acted.
And before you call me an arm chair general, I want you understand that I would have charged the bastard. And eff the OIC on the scene. Every LEO who was there and stood back and let the scum sucker live should be sued into oblivion in a class action lawsuit.
I will willingly lay down my life to save innocents. Be they children or adults.
Death Before Dishonor…
Honor First
FTP? Wow, that kinda felt good!
I guess Texas went from Purple to Deep State Blue while we were all asleep. I don’t want to hear anything about “Don’t Mess With Texas” ever again! Y’all are about to put Bush Lite Abbott who is fine with making your State number one in the World for hard dope imports and child sex trafficking back in the Governor’s Mansion because Beta is the only other choice. Get your sh!t wired tight, Texas!
We’ve been invaded by Mexico and California. It had been a long time coming.
The bummer is, as Governor DeSantis was told by CBP on his visit to what used to be the Border, is 70% of the riffraff coming in is being sent to Florida. The Cal-tards have been quietly invading us for a while. Many of those folks I have talked to upon arrival claim to be Conservative but have some unmistakable Leftoid tendencies which is typical of folks with beau coup money.
In Parkland, Florida, one agency (Broward Sheriffs Office) stood by. Upon arrival, the Coral Springs Police RAN past the Sheriffs Deputies and entered the school…
Is the Uvalde school district run by a bunch of democrats??? That’s what happened in Parkland.
That’s what it appears and the cops took illegal orders and stood down
Seems to be a coordinated effort and I would look to the soros infiltration if placing marxists as DA’s and AG’s and elected police chiefs
First things first. Why the hell were the exterior doors unlocked? School needs to be held accountable for not following safety protocol. The best first defense against this are locked doors.
Law enforcement cowardice, combined with conveniently stubborn adherence to command structure, fails us again. Not sure any intervention would have saved those kids since the evil puke went into a classroom to do his horror. Still, pathetic response and even more sick they stopped parents from trying.
Why were some doors unlocked and maybe open?? Because of covid. When schools reopened after the 2 weeks to flatten the curve, schools were told to ventilate indoor spaces. Because air cleaners were in short supply, doors and windows were flung open even in cold weather. Suddenly active shooters, inside and outside, were no longer a threat. In my High School, hallways were ONE WAY ONLY, necessitating students walk OUTSIDE all around the school to keep the one way flow. One elementary school kept their large exit doors in the back of the school, which faced the woods, open all day. It is very painful to see that once again lessons learned from past school shootings are soon forgotten.
What a fool! The MEN who stormed the beaches of Normandy didn’t have body armor. The MEN who fought in WWII didn’t have body armor. These law enforcement jokers are inexcusable. Fire. Them. All. They have b@lls the size of raisins. Shameful and tragic. Arm the parents and teachers.
I’d love to see the oath these officers took when sworn in.
But of course oaths mean nothing in these days and times. Look at the behavior of blue DA’s who refuse to prosecute obvious criminals. Look at judges who refuse to sentence vicious criminals or crimes committed by political allies, yet incarcerate the political pposition. Look at SCOTUS who will not adhere to the constitution. Look at the FBI and DoJ selectively investigating and prosecuting based on politics. And worst of all, look at Joe f*#k&#g Biden who refuses to enforce our border laws. All of them took an oath to obey and enforce our laws and constitution, and to protect and defend our people.
No, what’s an oath? Just words on paper.
This absolutely breaks my heart. If my kids had been in that school, I would found a way in and attacked that SoB with a toothbrush if need be. F#&k him.
Never thought I’d say I’m ashamed of being a Texan today.
I’m not ashamed of being the son of a Border Patrol Agent who was a true Texan. He would have gone in just like the BORTAC guy did.
Interesting how two very distinct arguments can arise from the same situation. some on the left are saying the ‘good guys with guns failed’ whereas the majority of the public interprets the entire debacle as ‘you’re on your own and this is proof of that’
One opinion is an attack on gun rights and the other is an encouragement to arm oneself
Both are true at the same time.
The supposed good guys did fail. They did nothing while kids were murdered.
To acknowledge that reality is not an attack against gun rights.
According to the source, officers at the scene who had been trained in advanced tactical procedures located a level IV ballistic shield. This tool allowed them to approach the shooter without immediately being killed. A United States Marshal Service employee acquired the necessary ballistic shield that ultimately allowed the quickly formed tactical team to enter the building and reach the barricaded shooter.
Even with the shield, as reported by Breitbart Texas, one of the Border Patrol agents who rushed the shooter still suffered a grazing gunshot wound to the head. The law enforcement team did not wait for personal protective equipment before acting.
https://www.breitbart.com/border/2022/05/26/exclusive-police-initially-lacked-ballistic-shield-needed-to-reach-barricaded-texas-school-shooter/
“ This tool allowed them to approach the shooter without immediately being killed. “
This is the latest spoonful of crap and admission LEO did nothing while the kids were slaughtered.
They are rewriting history and making things up now that parents are outraged the LEO’s have been outed as pension driven cowards.
What caliber were being fired at LE? A plated vest will stop 5.56 ammo. All we’ve seen are alleged screen grabs of pics of some fancy AR platform rifles.
Edit: A plated vest will stop most 5.56 ammo.
Very dark day for law enforcement. After Columbine LE altered first responder tactics and dropped the tactic of waiting for SWAT to show up. Too many casualties ensued. So the first officer(s) on the scene were obligated to confront the armed subject and terminate him. This was the new “active shooter” response doctrine. However, LE in this country is devolving – not evolving – and what you get is what you see on the videos supplied by the proliferation of cell phones, i.e., overweight, argumentative, and unprofessional men who have zero understanding of what their oath stands for. And it’s going to get worse. It all starts at the top.
We have moved away from the PEACE OFFICER to the LAW ENFORCEMENT AUTOMATON.
That’s all you need to know.
Lots of questions, lots of misinformation.
Taught hostage rescue for over 20 years. Running into a hail of fire is not an effective tactic.
The unlocked door and story of school resource officer engaging where there was none is more troublesome.
Once gunman in room with hostages/victims the situation becomes nearly impossible, requires specialized SWAT and equipment, breeching charges, training to have even a chance of success.
My speculation is they had shooter isolated, and were waiting for reinforcements.
Who was the on scene commander? Need to ask.
It was a tragic
Jersey,
On scene Incident Commander was not thinking out of the box on this one. Apparently, nobody had a ram, or the ram would not breach the door. At that point knowing what we know about school killings they should have taken out windows or walls.
Incident Commander should have ordered the largest vehicle to breach a wall if widows not possible. Everyone has a plan until you are punched in the nose. The IC was punched in the nose, and nobody else thought clearly.
Couldn’t breach the door?
Try a window?
Call the fire department.
With the tools they have, they can get into just about ANY building.
“C’mon man – use your head for something besides a hat rack.“
Why didn’t they shoot him while he was outside for 12 minutes firing off his weapon? Why wasn’t the school in lockdown at that point? Why was he even allowed in the school? To me that is the largest question.
During rhe 2016 election cycle, anytime Hillary would come under scrutiny there wpuld coincidentally be a mass shooting. There is a similar coincidence now. Has the FBI stepped in and taken over the press conferences yet?
This school district has 48 lockdowns during the academic year…. No reason why the door was unlocked or why there wasn’t a armed guard….a lot of things don’t smell right with anything.
I sure hope and pray that some of the brave men and women who wanted to go in and take down the shooter will come forward and refute this. I just have difficulty believing this story. If it is true that they are all too cowardly to risk their lives to save helpless children, then hope for men and women of integrity serving in a law enforcement is lost.
By all accounts, law enforcement on the scene refused to allow the parents to run in and rescue their children. I’d put my faith in parents any day. This is sickening.
Law enforcement was lost when they changed their mantra from “protect and serve” to “officer safety.” Then that farce of a court ruled that police have no duty to protect.
Why do we even have law enforcement any more? Well, to keep useless eaters in line, and to protect those in power from being exposed as corrupt. And cities are burned, and shootings and thefts are allowed in Democrat-run cities, while “law enforcement” kneels at the feet of violence.
And when they became LAW ENFORCEMENT instead of
PEACE OFFICERS.
A lot of the problem stems from these idiotic active shooter classes that sound good in name, but do nothing except give excuses to do nothing. In addition local depts or swat teams put their on spin on the so called “reality based training” and it end up as a total clown show.
Ooh-vawl-day???? Seriously????
It’s YOU-Val-Dee you DPS spokesidiot.
I’m gonna throw my phone.
well, yeah … leave us to our ‘merican pronunciations, dammit
like the various Buena Vista communities the locals pronounce as “Byooona Vista”
Incidents like this remind me of my father, Korean War veteran with 3 bronze stars.
Growing up with him taught me to trust God and go for it.
Those law enforcement officers names should be made public. They should never find a single place of rest until they die.
Fear is a perfectly valid response when encountered with a mass shooter who kills indiscriminately.
What you do when your afraid is what counts. And unfortunately they failed miserably.
All police departments should have every piece of equipment needed for every situation and all Officers should have the training needed to use all equipment. The state needs to make sure all departments have what they need, manpower, equipment and training.
Sure. Start with courage.
Any news, any headline, since 2020, a question tacked on.
FEATURE/FLAW…………….?
FEATURE/FLAW………………?
FEATURE/FLAW………?
Real Texans should take a few days off from work(I know, sounds impossible) and get their rear ends to Austin and peacefully protest the Living Daylights out of DPS. Real Texans should let Abbott know how they feel about him letting their State be America’s dope dealer while they are there.
There will never be a question nor ever News Commentary or Public Statement that asks …
How is it that the democrats ALWAYS can RELY UPON a COINCIDENTAL TRAGEDY when needed?
It is always a convenient tragedy on demand for the democrats to deflect news stories away from disasters and provide a political attack platforms when needed. Especially after 2008 when the Comrade Obama became part of the White House.
Why is it that the perpetrators in ALL but “racial incidents” that will result in more self-serving democrat headlines during the trial, seem to not survive?
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
We must get every answer…
and we must take every action…
We cannot let this go…again and again and again.
This is bigger than it appears.
One other point I make below that also is a question…I have been to a few elementary schools and day cares over the past 15 years in 2 different States: as a science fair judge, to pickup grand kids and pick up my school teacher wife from work … there were ALWAYS 2+ layers of LOCKED doors even during normal school hours and open doors are manned as well as set to lock on being closed … How is the democrats ALWAYS have unlocked doors when needed??
Individual life is of scant relevance to Democrats, or Communists.
Their inherent belief that they are crusaders for social justice renders all else moot. They bathe in each others’ glory, echoing flutters of moonbattery and assault. An infinite series of mirrors in a house of horror.
Impervious to logic, pretending not to know things, archdeacons of cognitive dissonance, glibly virtue signaling by default.
Their eerie eyes reflect their state.
They are, frankly, insane.
