This is one of the goofiest notification letters for noncompliance with the ridiculous COVID vaccination mandate. LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva shared via Twitter. Read this letter from the original baseline that vaccine mandates were about health:
Presumably the entire reason for the Fire Department vaccination mandate was about health. If you are not vaccinated, something about your health or other people’s health is an issue. However, if you are an LAFD worker and you do not get the vaccine, you can still work but you must get tested.
If you are non-compliant with the vaccine/testing rule you must get a suspension for five days as punishment for not getting the vaccine or missing a test. However, the County cannot suspend the firefighter because they don’t have staff. So, the vaccine/testing suspension is delayed until they get enough staff to suspend you….. And somewhere, in some bureaucratic office of some knucklehead, this all makes sense.
COVID-19 appears to have created a dissociative condition called cognitive COVID madness. Fewer people are injured by covid related respiratory damage than are injured by covid related brain damage.

In general you are correct. In this case, it is so stupid I can’t believe it was intentional. I think the meeting went like this:
Genius 1: ”There must be consequences!”.
Genius 2: “But we don’t have enough staff to suspend that many at once”.
Genius 3: “We’ll suspend them without pay for 5 days at a time of our choosing as punishment. They’ll learn to listen and we won’t have a revolt when the city burns down!”.

That’s an interesting possibility. Perhaps: behind closed doors, “We don’t actually agree with this, but we’ll be disciplined or fired if we don’t enforce it, so we need to pretend to go along.” Publicly: “We’re totally enforcing this, and we’re going to punish you with unpaid leave… at some unspecified time far in the future.” (Perhaps they can also give them a “bonus” for their “hard work” just prior to the “unpaid leave”, which is coincidentally equal to the pay they would have received during the week of leave?)

I don’t know the LAcoFD progressive disciplinary procedure but i think the key phase is “please note that this suspension is considered imposed for progressive discipline purposes”. With that phrase after 5 business days could the employee receive another notice with a 30 day suspension considered imposed, followed by a suspended termination notice to be used as soon as a replacement is trained?

Decades ago I worked in aerospace. Each Space Shuttle is covered with thousands of small, individually handmade ceramic “tiles” to prevent it from burning up on reentry. Rockwell in California had a team of highly specialized, trained, skilled workers to make each tile and to custom fit and glue each one uniquely to every Shuttle craft. The Shuttle was then put on top of a 747 and flown to Florida.
IN 1979 NASA and Rockwell decided to send layoff notices to some on that team a few months before they finished tiling the current Shuttle. When that Shuttle arrived in Florida about a fourth of the tiles had blown off on the flight over.
NASA had to fly it back to California and rehire laid off workers.
As someone who flew model rocket versions of what later became the Space Shuttle in the 1960’s and later became a machinist and machine shop owner, at this point I decided screw it, they bought their tickets to fascism; let them drill a smoking hole and burn alive in it. No, what the letter is saying is that they do not have enough “staff”, i.e. firefighters, to suspend any firefighters, otherwise, they can’t protect the citizens because they don’t have enough firefighters to man the engines.

The CAL Fire Director was allowed to retire. He came from the Fresno/Madera area (Nunes territory). His crime? Having a study of only 16 people from Sacramento HQ involved in a testing process without cramming it down the throat of the units. I guess the LA Times ran an article (I haven’t looked for it) talking about how CAL Fire has dragged their feet implementing vaccine mandate or mandatory testing.
So, now a former workmate of mine stated he had to sign away his rights to some testing firm that used to do genetic testing. Hmmmm. And oddly, I talked to him while he was driving home from work. Our work periods are 28-days and the normal shift is 4 3-day shifts for 12 days during the work period, he had worked 24 of them because he, the non-vaxxed person had to fill in behind vaxxed people who were out with Covid 🤷♂️
I know of a few guys who just got 6 month non-paid leave for refusing to take a test which they heretofore have not had to take, the only thing that changed was a new Director/acting-Director.
Ridiculous.
I just looked. The Director and Deputy Director spots are vacant. I forgot who the Deputy Director was, but the new acting director is the guy who was the Fire Marshal – rose through the ranks doing various training and fire prevention positions. Makes sense, fire prevention types are use to telling people what to do and taking a hardline on rules and regulations (also a quite a few get “bribed” by contractors 🤷♂️).
I am sure that there are jobs for firefighters in other states.
At some point, enough is enough.
A lot of the guys I came up through the ranks with are approaching 50 with a 3% at 50 retirement formula up to 90% of highest salary. So, 27 years of service gets you 81% of your highest salary along with “free” medical (you end up paying out-of-pocket for family add ons). A lot of guys I know are just trying to make it through the next few years.
Sadly, these are the kind of HR leaders & CEOs that are rampant throughout the lawless state of CA. They take their marching orders from the Democrat Communists without flinching. Out of loyalty to their Masters? Or is it fear? One wonders if they can even see the hypocrisy and insanity of these policies. Mass Formation Psychosis is real. Liberals also have a diminished ability in logical and critical thinking skills. All of our essential services are in the cross-hairs and fighting for survival because of these incompetent, brainwashed fools.
The radical Left has also taken over the local CDC jurisdictions in CA. Santa Clara County’s CDC is arguably one of the worst in the state, if not the entire country. Although the state of CA has officially lifted it’s indoor mask mandates, this county CDC refuses to do so. They also recently issued orders to healthcare facilities to fire workers who were previously granted religious or medical exemptions from the vaccine mandates if they continue to refuse the vaccine. Healthcare facilities already have crisis level staffing problems and are facing a mass exodus of workers from healthcare due to burn-out from the pandemic. Replacements are hard, if not impossible to find. HC facilities are forced to pay Travelers huge amounts of money, if they can find them. Firing workers who wouldn’t take the experimental, ineffective, and potentially dangerous vaccines compounded the problem. Although the Biden Regime screwed up the availability of testing kits, and during the recent Omicron surge the drive-through lines for testing were over 2 hours long every day, with traffic clogging roadway systems into the neighborhoods, the CDC mandated that health care facilities immediately provide tests to all who want them within 24 hours, or face large fines. Apparently the CDC thinks a magic wand will create the staff and space to administer all these tests and/or provide non-existent self-testing kits to people. The local CDC also made it illegal for HC facilities to refer patients to the county testing sites, which sometimes had more supplies. Fortunately the surge appears to be over in CA, more home testing kits have become available, and the CDC’s apparent scheme to collect massive amounts of money from medical facilities in fines appears to have been foiled for now.
IMO, these examples illustrate how the CDC has been weaponized by the Democrat Communists and is being used as a tool to take down our healthcare industry. If HC facilities push back against their orders, they can be shut down by the state and levied huge fines. Thanks to the recent back-stabbing by the SCOTUS, it would appear there is little legal recourse for healthcare facilities to fight the insanity of the vaccine mandates. What hope do they have to push back against other completely impractical capricious notions that the CDC comes up with in regard to the pandemic? This is abuse of power at its very worst by sadistic Leftist psychopathics who are glad to destroy our healthcare infrastructure and jeopardize the public’s access to healthcare. Don’t be angry with your local healthcare facility for the long wait-times for appointments or surgeries now or ridiculous visitation policies. The blame rests on the CDC and our Democrat bureaucrat Overlords in CA.

I was with Santa Clara County 25 years ago when Daryl Osby (author of this letter) was hired to be Chief of the SJ Fire Dept. There was a lot of desention because of this guy back then. He was in high demand due to affirmative action hiring compliance. The City, a leftist run local government, wanted to change the culture of the Fire Dept. It had nothing to do with improved fire services. Osby has since been in high demand by various fire districts in Calif., finally landing in LA. I don’t recall anyone mention his experience or qualifications as a firefighter? He’s a political appointment pure and simple. This is what we have been experiencing all over this country.
More telling than the redacted stuff is the names of the board of supervisors. That pretty much says it all… just sayin.
