Hopefully last year’s warning gave all enough time: …”By the time we get to Superbowl Sunday, the price of ¹chicken wings is going to bring sticker shock to those who have not prepared.” (link)
For those doing the math, that’s a 51.4% price increase in a year.
(Prior article)
[NOTE: ¹More chicken wings are purchased in the days leading up to the Superbowl than any other time of year.]
Make America Great Again.
Again.
Make America Strong Again.
Make Wings Cheap Again 🙂
Make chicken available and affordable again. Biden can start there, anything else is to much ask of him.
Sort of a chicken in every pot promise.
although they’ll do better on a broiler pan on a rack in the oven at around 375, I reckon
For now you need to start small for Biden, just chicken wings on every buffet!
And The Donald says get the jab even if it kills you!
I was listening to all of the rules to enter the Super Bowl this year on OAN this AM. RIDICULOUS!
I am still waiting on that health survey of everyone who attended the 2020 Super Bowl right before the 14 days to slow the spread shutdown in 2020. I still want to know how many of those who went got “ill” from the CCP/Faux-Chi virus.
We know it was already here and infecting people. I had already had it in late 2019.
I attended the very last University of Kentucky home basketball game before the shutdown. It was a sellout. I was fine. I still have not tested positive in the two+ years. I have been sick a couple of times but never tested. Maybe I had it, maybe not.
I never tested either, but I KNOW I had it Nov/Dec 2019. When we didn’t know there was an it. There are many others here who also had it in that same timeframe.
I believe I had it that November, too. It was the worst feeling… as if I could barely breathe, accompanied by a violent cough that couldn’t seem to expel anything.
My ribs and abs ached from relentless coughing. It took 2 months before I felt better, but the cough never fully left.
At the time I joked about it, calling it my “Cough your way to Rock Hard Abs” exercise program. Now that doesn’t seem so funny at all.
My brother was sick with a bad cold, cough and fever for 6 wks. in Nov-Dec 2019. The doctor could not figure out what he had. My brother recovered, has not been vaccinated and never caught Covid.
I’m pretty sure I had it in Feb/20. Much harsher than “ordinary” flu, took much longer to recuperate and lost my sense of smell for good.
My sense of smell is partially back 15 months later – I am sorry yours is permanently gone 🙁
One never knows!
We had it then too. Oldest son tested positive for antibodies later (for work). We got lucky, husband traveling and invariably gets sick that time of year, so we prepared all fall taking zinc, vitamin D (dark season here in PNW), and lots of green tea and walnuts (selenium) as comfort food. Was a short cold for all, praise the Lord. Our neighbors had it, were told flu, pneumonia, took several months to recover.
How many realize that chicken wings, beef short ribs, chuck roasts, ground beef and the like was always considered “poor man food”?
We were not allowed to eat “store-bought” hotdogs because my Dad, (a farmer) told us that if we knew what was ground up and put in a hotdog, we would never touch it.
The only “hotdogs” we ate were those “sausages” hand made by Dad or his friends who owned their own butchering business and meat shop. We ate German sausages, Italian sausages and even the best fresh oysters, smelt, fish of every kind that he brought home in a big bucket, fresh!!
We were a big family living on a farm that we all worked on and it gave us everything, except coffee, tea and sugar.
At the time, we all thought we were poor because our Dad wasn’t working at IBM or GE or Kodak or Ansco….
Lemons? If Snapple had only shown us the way with their peach tea.
The prices are scary with no end in sight. You can’t even make an econo-meal on ground beef anymore.
Speaking of oysters, if wings are going to be expensive, here’s a recipe:
https://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/fried-buffalo-oysters
I bought a pint of oysters today for just under $20 and had them fried by the market for no added charge. About 40 delicious oysters.
This wing “thing” has been going on for many months. The bars in our area always had wing specials on Mondays. The wings progressively became smaller and more expensive. Now a few don’t bother anymore, or they’re selling boneless “wings”. No idea what caused it, but it started well before the NFL season.
I’ll take a whole chicken in the smoker before a plate of wings any day.
Amen to that.
I have never gotten the point of wings. They are small, messy, and you burn more calories trying to get the pittance of meat off the bone than you actually get from eating them.
Exactly!! Too much work to make too! They are better used to make broth.
The cheapest alternative are whole birds that you can cut up or just buy leg quarters and divide the into drums and thighs for a party.
$3.80 per pound?
Try $5.99 per pound for tiny wings. And they’ve been that way for at least 6-8 months.
In Bavaria, in Aldi, about 4 euros. Per Kilo.
I don’t do superbowl, because I don’t care, and I don’t do chicken wings,,,,if I do chicken it will be southern fried or roasted, mashed potatoes, gravy, cornbread, and some green beans southern style, with cobbler for dessert
Same here! Haven’t watched the superbowl in years! I don’t even know who’s in it, and don’t care to know! Politics, and knee benders, ruined it years ago.
Thankfully we all saved 16 cents on hot dogs last summer! *eyeroll*
…and we can use the savings to get us some o them there wings.
Oh wait…
OMG!!! SHRIEK!! SQUEAL!! No Doubt it’s the Damn Leftist Overlords Hogging up all the wings from the unruly disobedient numbnuts who will be watching the Annual Commie Fest Shitshow. There is always an alternative… How about Chicken Gizzards for $2.18 per pound? Chicken nuggets are probably more to most folks liking though, better marketing through essential programming since childhood, and only a few dollars more… Bread and Circus Baby! OR, Just say: “Screw it all,” and go for a long walk, instead of sacrificing your well deserved day of rest, and a buttload of inflation riddled bucks, on a bunch of America hating Jackazzes from the Chinese Propagandists at the NFL.. Just saying, Ya’ll, there is always an alternative. Enjoy the Show Folks!
Funny thing happened, I hit the space bar and the whole post disappeared. This is not the first time.
I have no intention of watching the Super Dooper Pooper Bowl. I have rib-eye steaks in the freezer, home made chile, potato salad and beer in the fridge. As far as I’m concerned, all pro sports should be cancelled until further notice; I’m more interested in the Freedom Convoy’s progress up north. God bless the truckers.
To hell with football.
It’s Trudeau “They’re Ending Democracy” vs. 50,000 truckers at this point. My money’s on the truckers. Beep Beep, Trudeau!
We stopped watching when the “take a knee” started and haven’t watched it since. Why would we support these overpaid, disrespectful athletes?
Amen, patriot
Bread and circuses.
Chicken wings?
A few decades ago, when my late Mom would cut up a bird, I always hated the wings … more bone than meat and more work to eat them than I thought they were worth. If I want to munch, I’ll take a burger and fries or even share a pizza any day.
Anyway, as far as I’m concerned, the football season ended when the Georgia Dawgs beat ‘Bama … that was a sweet end to the football season.
😎😎😎
Wings have a high ratio of skin to meat. That is a good thing.
There are much bigger fish to fry that worrying about chicken wings. Heck with the super bowl too nothing but filth. I’m reading the Lords good book! And eating hot dogs and beans!
There is no more Super Bowl.
We still have chili but boycott games.
Thank you for your comment. It just occurred to me that chili is spelled with an “i” at the end of the word, unless referring to the country in South America.
I also have chili stored in the fridge and am boycotting pro sports.
There may be a shortage of chicken wings for the Stupid Bowl but there is surely no shortage of Communist chickenshit liars and thieves in the FJB cabal.
Meh, for those not participating in such a waste of time . . . ?
No thanks. Gonna watch Trump rally.
news max will cover it tomorow from texas. be there or be square. showing my age i guess.
RSBN live on Rumble and OAN will have it too!
Is there a Trump rally that day?
Not a super bowl watcher. The nfl does not need hateful, racist, bigots like me supporting their games. I do love wings though.
NO no no…..this can’t be true. The gov. says inflation is going DOWN, not UP. Why would you believe otherwise?
“USDA, Economic Research Service (ERS) researchers project that prices for food-at-home, or food purchased typically from grocery stores or other food stores, will increase between 1.5 and 2.5 percent in 2022, lower than the 3.5-percent increase that occurred in both 2020 and 2021. “
Those massive price spikes at the store don’t exist. Anyway its all due to greedy corporations and anti-vaxxers who, if they only got shot, would be allowed to deliver my food, my pelaton, and the healing crystals I ordered from Xianjiang. And those Canadian truckers. And the rail companies letting their cars get hijacked. And the long waiting ships ordered 60 miles offshore so we wouldn’t be able to see the back-up from the beach, so there’s no back-up now. Gov just printed another $5 trillion, how could there be a lack of money? Now shut up, put on your second mask, stay in your basement, and let me get back to my post-partum vacation. What are you, racist?
OK. I can’t do this anymore.
Sounds like we need a recipe thread for the Super Bowl that most of us don’t care about.
I like thighs better.

You can have my wings. My lovely wife and I would go to BWW to watch the Philly Eagles (my football team since I was 5 ( Roman Gabriel QB #5) throwing snowballs at Santa or batteries if we had to) or her college basketball team UK Wildcats (she is a eastern Kentucky coal miners daughter). Ever since Colin what’s his name we have not been to BWW or even watched sports on the idiot tube. We may only be two people, they lost us, how many in all did they loose?
Wait, wait a minute! The USDA said that prices only increased 3.5% over 2021. /sarc
Perhaps try giving the layers the “jab”. With luck, the chicks will be born with six wings each – voila, problem solved, thank you saint Fauci.
As a former fan of pro sports, I can say I’m now very happy to NOT know who is in the Superbowl, where it’s being played, or even when it is. …So much better off.
There is NO shortage of CSh** however.
Wings used to be a cheap and popular staff meal at the restaurant where I work. I just purchased a 30# cs for the low price of $146. That’s approaching $5/#. Chicken breasts have nearly doubled in the last year. What was around $55/ 20# cs is now anywhere from $75 – $90, depending on seller. Think of all the Buffalo chicken wraps, chicken parms, and grilled chicken Caesar salads that have increased in price by $3-4 per plate at your local restaurants. Those increases have been happening steadily for months, but things like wings (or turkey at Thanksgiving) are different. They hit spikes at certain times of the year. Maybe the demand can be met and prices stay low. Maybe it can’t, in which case big sellers like Sysco, PFG, US Foods will tell their restaurants to start preparing. Buy what you can store and stock pile(ever see a food delivery trailer in a sports bar parking lot? That’s an extra walk in freezer for peak times). From a restaurant perspective, the cost doesn’t matter; you MUST have that product. And when people are drinking and watching football, they aren’t going to care about the price either. This is what they are paying for. That being said, how many people are going to adjust their plans and stay at home or have at home SB parties instead of going out? Pass the vegan nachos, please…?
SE Michigan here. I don’t shop Walmart, especially for groceries. I cringe having to give my money to Peter Meijer and family, but I do like their meat and produce. I have been waiting and waiting for some decent meat sales from Meijer since last November. Tired of not seeing any, I opted for a mini bundle from a butcher. The price has gone up $10 recently but I’m on my second bundle. 30 lbs of meat. Consists of 5 lbs each: Wings, leg quarters, and breasts, sirloin steak, pork chops, and hamburger. $109 total making it $3.63 per pound. That’s a lot for chicken, but not bad for steak or burger these days. I break it all down into meal size portions and freeze it. First bundle lasted about 6 weeks . I’m good with that. For Treepers in the area, try Cattleman’s.
I prefer to cook either tenders on a stick, with dips, or the legs. Legs and thighs can be cheap. I’d rather have a leg than a wing anyway. Easier to eat than wings, with lots more meat. The dark meat has more flavor as well.
I think I’ll do a batch of baby back ribs instead of wings.
