Today is actually a stunning day in the world of COVID transparency and the manipulation of COVID for political benefit.
After the White House tried the Omicron “winter of death” narrative, they suddenly realized what some (including myself) had mentioned earlier. When you require something, you are by nature of that requirement taking ownership of the outcome.
The Biden administration mandates -writ large- mean the government has to take ownership of the outcome. Thus, if government tests are required then government is responsible for testing.
The problem is, when any entity takes ownership, they are setting themselves up for accountability and criticism.
White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain should have been prepared for that; but, like all things in Biden’s crazy world of ‘throw it at the wall and see what sticks’ policy making, the White House had no system, plan or intent to take ownership of anything – nor are they going to.
Today, Joe Biden officially tries to take the U.S. government out of the COVID mess by saying “there is no federal solution” to the crisis their COVID-19 response created. Yes, JOE BIDEN SAID THAT. Directly and without any pause as to the ramification of what he was saying or reading.
For two years Joe Biden has critiqued, criticized, complained and promised that his administration would handle the spread of COVID-19 and all the downstream consequences. Why the shift? Because the crisis they created is about to be very visible, on a local level, in every town.
Obviously, the White House can NOW clearly see the looming crisis they have created by their COVID policies, dictates and mandates. A genuine shitstorm is unfolding in real time, and I guarantee you CoS Ron Klain (and the crew behind Biden) have been given detailed, specific briefings and information about the scale of the national COVID mess that is about to surface.
It’s not just the deadlines for the vaccination mandates hitting hard and creating an absolute mess with the testing requirements, and it’s not just a shortage of workers this vaccine requirement is creating, and it’s not just the amplified shortage of workers who test positive and must remain quarantined. It’s actually a much bigger mess within the cumulative economic and social ramifications.
Keep in mind the vast majority of Americans are done with two years of COVID-19 and variant fear mongering. That’s why the “winter of death” narrative backlash was so strong and so transparently dangerous on a political level to the White House after deployment. They started backtracking within 72 hours and trying to thread a needle between calm control and the more useful panic/crisis.
The federal government triggered mandatory vaccine or testing requirements. That process requires COVID tests. However, now the federal government is trying to back away from the crisis created by the testing demand and throwing the testing responsibility to the states. The testing mess has only just begun.
Meanwhile, the Omicron variant is nothing more than a cold, yet the federal government has overhyped the Omicron fear and is now dealing with the outcome. Think about this example from a commonsense perspective: The federal government hyped Omicron to install more mandates, and simultaneously the quarantine time for Omicron positive test result was lowered to 5 days. These two points conflict with each other.
The COVID mess is going to get worse specifically because Biden is responsible for it, and specifically because everything the Biden team does is based on politics of COVID. Their supporters are about to discover just what a hot mess this administration has created. Right now, those administration supporters are only seeing the tip of the iceberg, while the media works earnestly to shout ‘look over here, shiny things, shiny things’.
Inflation data is going to hit hard, and it’s going to hit soon. Lower price inventories now depleted are going to be replaced with much more expensive stuff coming in that carries the cumulative cost increases of Biden policy. Combine that with the mounting COVID mess that’s about to come to a head, and you can see the panic in the White House that has now triggered them to try and get distant from it.

Right now, FL feels like a comfy shoe. We love it here.

Drove by downtown St Augustine today and saw many people wearing mask even though it was sunny and 75. Saw a family with four small kids all masked up, so very sad.
My husband and I do our unscientific monitoring of downtown St Augustine and Publix on a regular basis. There has been an untick in masks since this omicron rubbish started. Downtown I believe a lot of this is tourists. Many people coming from other areas just do not know what to do. The messaging has been anything but consistent. It seems like Publix ticked up and then back to a normal low level. I did hear one of those stupid social distancing messages in Bealls yesterday. Most people wearing masks that I see are older women. Being an older woman, I can say that.

And I may be out on the front line. My husband has to go to a clinic for daily radiation for cancer. I have to drive him (he’s disabled—not related to the cancer) and I accompany him into the clinic where I sit in a waiting room (with only one or two people going thru—masks mandated) until he’s done. Today we get phone call saying no more family members may enter the waiting room or accompany the patient in for the once a week doctor visit. COVID, don’t you know. Does the doctor wear a mask? No, he does not. Does the complex administrator handing down these dictates wear a mask as she parades through the clinic waiting room? No, she does not. I am so done with all this Barbra Streisand! Thank you, Treepers one and all, for the chance to vent.

And may you never need, this Packrat, but just in case: hospitals are required to provide each patient a Patients Bill of Rights, and it should be posted. If you are not handed one or told of one, be sure and ask IMMEDIATELY for a copy: that way, you put the hospital and staff on notice that you know you have rights and are not afraid to use them.
Most will have rules stating you have a right to a patient advocate of your choice to be with you at all times; you have a right to seek a second opinion from a doctor of your choosing, even if s/he is out of network; you have a right to refuse any treatment; you have a right to leave the hospital at any time (against medical advice), etc.
You might try what I have done. I have a signed, witnessed and notarised Durable Medical Power of Attorney for my wife, and I have a copy placed in her medical records, with every practitioner.
My wife is perfectly capable of making medical decisions, she is NOT “mentally incompetent”.
However, because of the DMPOA, I am technically the one they HAVE to get permisdion from, before they can so much as examine my wife, and I MUST be included, in any discussions regarding treatment.
If she goes into the hospital, they CAN NOT tell me to leave, when visiting hours are over.
They CAN exclude me from being there during surgery, or certain treatments, but thats all.
I don’t know if COVID changes anything, but I am still included, when she has Dr’s appointments, that hasn’t changed.
As long as your husband understands that he is not surrendering anything to YOU, and you are simply using an acceptedblegal device, to keep THEM from excluding YOU, it can maybe be helpful to your situation?

When mom was in the nursing home, she was her own advocate as she had worked in a medical field and knew patients rights; I was the enforcer as I went to care conferences with her most of the time. She was on tube feeding at first and on tons of meds after her stroke and by the time she died she was on 2 meds that she needed, one arthritis med that pre-dated the stroke, another an antidepressant. She was the one in charge but she got what she needed because she had family there – my sister and I were each there at least 40 hrs/wk. Another resident had his diet restricted because he had no family to advocate for him – his nephews would pick him up for the day for holidays but nobody was there for him the rest of the time. All he wanted was 3 slices of bread with jam after every meal and he was in his 80s. They restricted him to one. At 84 he should have what he wants.
Someone came around with the snack cart and offered mom something once, so she took something. She told me she didn’t think they were supposed to give her snacks. I told her I didn’t think they bothered because she had better snacks in her room; she had a dedicated candy drawer, 2 kinds of pudding, 3 kinds of pop, kettle corn and anything I could think of she might want, along with things she hadn’t had for a while and asked for.
This whole year and this latest move is classic Biden….classic Dem ; wash your hands as you leave devastation behind.

My wife and I have not had a respiratory infection (flu, bronchitis, pnuemonia) that would be severe enough to cause taking off from work, for 25 years, at least.
MAYBE the occasional ‘sniffles’ for a day, but quickly clearing up.
She did have the “flu vaccine” for several years, when her employer both provided it, and required it (and frankly, we didn’t think to object) but I have never had it.

3. I stopped at a Vietnamese binh minh sandwich shop – prices flat, but the sandwich size has been reduced 30 – 40 PERCENT.

I wouldn’t assume that was going to happen since the states will no longer have the feds backing them up. Blue states (including where I live- Oregon) are governed by bullies, but bullies are also cowards.
Oregon is actually an open carry state and believe me, the majority of people outside of Salem, Eugene, and Portland have lots of boom sticks and lots of the stuff that makes them go boom.
