With driverless AI trucks for long haul on the horizon, would you invest in a driver assisted truck right now? Emerging tec in trucking is no different than a CARB regulation that destroys the expected life of your equipment.
With CARB, at least you could sell your non compliant equipment outside the state of CA or ship it for sale overseas. People will not invest if they see their investment will become soon worthless. Mish has been talking about driverless trucks for years.
Even worse, if you ever listen to the warroom segments on transhumanism…
…we’re a (perceived) problem they’re working on solving for themselves.
However, it’s not like it will be good for the Globalarchy. Filled with hubris, they figure they can achieve their paradise with their planned 500 million human slaves to run their machines.
Ever read a single sci-fi novel in which that actually worked?
makes me curious at how the AI will handle us car idiots pulling in to that small space the truck is trying to open up to safely follow the vehicle ahead? AIs can’t change physics or idiots, but the AI will be blamed as often as lawyers get the chance.
That article was almost two years old. What progress has been made since?
Yes it can. Notice all the trucker accident lawyer signage and commercials. Reason truckers must have minimum 2 million in liability. Regulations requires it, insurance covers it. Truckers pay it and lawyers recover it.
Redistribution of wealth.
AI problem is there’s no deep pockets to go for so if AI created a corporation it would be bankrupt in a year.
And if the other players in this game want a pay raise they just increase the required minimum liability amount so there’s a bigger pie to take bigger pieces from. Easy money!
Create the crisis and implement the solution. If they can create a virus crisis they can create a truck crisis. The solution for the virus was EUA vax.
The solution for truckers will be EUA AI tech. Pelosi will make more millions.
People will see the empty shelves and demand that something be done.
I have said for years that the problem with driverless vehicles is not the technology, although that is a biggie. The big problem is how to determine financial liability when things go horribly wrong. The solution may be under test with vaccine liability. Mandate it and make those hurt by the tech bear the cost.
Trains need to be loaded and unloaded. They require trucks to bring product from ports to train yards, trucks to bring to store distribution centers and finally trucks to the stores.
We are many years away before AI is incorporated into the trucking industry.
Remember, a fully loaded semi is probably over 100,000 lbs. a very dangerous thing going 60-70 mph on a highway.
My brother a truck driver of 30 years had no problem when they put cameras in the truck facing the road. He had no problem when he had to enter ever stop and how long it took him to load and unload. But when they put cameras in the truck watching him every minute he took early retirement. To much big brother out there. We will see how they do with the electric trucks that are driverless semis , I would give them lots of highway space if I were you.
Nope not calling or doing a thing, people need to see what full blown socialism and green madness brings to them. I told my wife as soon as Biden was sworn in this may be the best thing to ever happen. Life has been too good, Americans have been too spoiled and complacent. This is like a slap in the face or a cold bucket of water; necessary to return to God, traditional values, rugged individualism and states rights.
Probably a different plan will take shape when the general public figures out the Demented Fraud and the criminally corrupt Kenyan. Their puppet masters socialist agenda is crashing all around them. They’ll start a war someplace with no meaning to divert the public’s attention from their domestic failures
I agree. Many of the biggest areas of contention will disappear when every day is a struggle to feed yourself and stay warm and dry. There is no time for petty politics and goofball theories when every day is a day of personal survival.

The Green left love sabotaging the consumption of goods and services by the citizenry.
They regard consumption as a sin.
The aim is to make you pay for the cultural and societal disaster of the 3rd world, as if pathetic incompetence and corruption can be fixed by revenge.
Perhaps a lease on a Mexican Pacific coast port by the US is the lateral way around the Californian sabotage of America.
Then they should address the root of the problem. Hollywood consumerist, materialist, useless culture.
Fashion industry, also.
Celebrities make a living promoting products, they wear their products to sell it. They are giving endless publicity to convince people they want to buy those.
They are the reason our culture is messed up and people care more about things than family and God.
Don’t get me started on the cosmetic plastic surgery industry also promoted by celebrities.
All useless, all are causing the “climate change” problems they say they are fighting against.
Then they should start where they can do the most “good” … with themselves by removing their HVAC, refrigeration, bought produce in any way shipped or grown with any modern means, etc.
They want you and yours to suffer while they refuse to lead by example.
Call them out on it constantly and never let them off for their consumption and waste that is most often more than the rest of the people they attack.
“The Green left love sabotaging the consumption of goods and services by the citizenry.”
Dozer, yes. Also, it seems to me that two groups are over-represented in the green left: limousine liberals and those whose needs are taken care of by parents or government.

Or the compact fluorescent light bulbs, which have mercury in them and shouldn’t be thrown out with the regular trash (how many people do you think actually dispose of them as they should be!?).
I wanted to walk through the company store in Monteat NC today in order to get to the outdoor patio to eat my lunch. ,Montreat is a Presbyterian community and where Billy Graham lived. I could only get to the rocking chair patio by walking through their store because they blocked off all other access..because of “the covid”. As I approached the door an employee confronted me and said I had to wear a mask. I said I was trying to get to the rocking chair deck and they said well you had to wear a mask to pass through the store. I said I was only trying to get to the deck, and she said I had to wear a mask so I said I can’t wear one so she said I had to so I turned around and left so she said something sarcastic back. Haha…she couldn’t believe someone would just walk away.

If CA can have its own EPA that is more stringent than the federal EPA, why can’t states have their own FDA that is more stringent than the federal FDA? This way states can tell Big Pharma their covid vaccines need at least 5 more years of clinical trials before they can be approved for other than emergency use.
Wish Fl would. That would make DeSantis even more popular.

I’m a little confused. If there is a lack of truckers to haul the freight. Why are truckers having to wait all day or overnight to load? Lack of truckers should cause trucks that make it to the port to get quickly loaded, There should be no lines.
I have been following this for several days And read CT multiple times per week. I get that there is a shortage of truckers in California and nationwide. But if that is the problem at the Docks, why are truckers waiting in line for 8+ hours? A shortage of truckers should mean, no truckers or trucks to wait around. How does a shortage of truckers translate into long lines of trucks waiting to be loaded?
In addition to the other replies, I gathered from the article that given the 24/7 unloading of the ships, it becomes more complex to find and bring to a truck a given container that the truck is there to pick up. What if the container is under several other containers and “in the back” of the container yard? As Sundance mentioned, piling up more containers onshore doesn’t help at all if there aren’t enough trucks to move the containers out.

Love the tag on this piece … Big Stupid Government … talk about super redundancy.
just wait until the world economic markey begins to unwind the financial disaster looming in CHINA right now. Wait until THOSE credit derivative swaps locate zero value. Wait until nearly every bank in the world that heavily invested in a 3-5 percent growth market in china realizes what a very bad bet that is.
You want to see real supply chain issues?
wait just a little more….because that’s coming too.
and when it hits, will make the too big to fail and the economic recession of 2008 look like a walk in the park.
As I have recommended and stressed (as well many other here!), please get prepared. Right now, start if you have not already.’
Imagine a hurricane preparedness style preparation. Lights out, no food, no gas, no ac, no heat…the standard hurricane scenario. Then mark that out to at least a year, because this hurricane is going worldwide at the same time. It might take years before your local area “recovers”.
please have a working plan, and if you don’t and you can’t afford one, start making friends and relations with like minded neighbors who will be the very people you depend on and visa versa to survive and make it through.
it’s coming America..the great reckoning.

The spoon analogy/metaphor is quite an exaggeration.
Emissions rule change was in fall 2020. I get how it slowed things down, but the ships were piling up last summer before the rule change. I saw them on my weekly drives across the Bay Bridge to San Francisco. Probably also has to do with people sitting at home, getting stimulus and welfare checks to spend on goods made in Asia, and less made at home. Which is what MAGA was all about -leveling the import export playing field with taxes on China. Add low interest rates to the mix.
Well, if that’s the case, I stand corrected. I had thought Sundance said Fall 2020 was when when the bill was enacted. And I didn’t know the emissions aspect was in the ab-5 gig worker bill. Terrible bill. I lost a 20 year client who had to discontinue working with all CA contractors.
FWIW, I don’t recall observing any increase of container ships previous to 2020.
It’s tough living here in Jonestown and not being one of the believers.
China owns Proconsul Biden. They also own Gabby Nuisance and California’s Democrats.
So why would they pass a crippling regulation they knew would screw up China’s supply chain at Christmas, no less? I don’t believe they would do that except at China’s insistence.
It makes me think this is Economic warfare, perhaps a prelude to the real thing. Yes–it seems counter-intuitive that China would want this economic debacle–but the same could be said of the last Deep State/ Politburo black op against America–the Plandemic.
Tony Clark (above) says fall of 2020. AB-5 took effect Jan 1, 2020.

But the backup is on all ports on both coasts, not just California.
I have heard it is also Covid rules – one person tests positive, the whole ship is quarantined for 2 weeks. Crew members must all test negative. A ship could conceivably be out for months, waiting for the crew to test negative. The ship needs to be scrubbed… don’t know about the merchandise onboard. Same goes for onshore operations. Then, the hours the longshoremen work is not what I thought – it’s (what I have heard) more of a “9 to 5” job. Biden has demanded they work 24/7 (that’s what I thought they were working). It’s a big cluster f’.
Was pulling the RV down I-95 South by The Golden Isles and saw a dually pick-up truck hauling a shipping container back to port in Jacksonville, FL. Never have seen that before!
The most significant, but under reported, contributing factor is California’s decision to ban all semi trucks older than three years old which eliminated upwards of 70% of all trucks serving the ports and state. There is simply no way for the supply chain to catch up. It is bad enough that they shut downs the rails system from California to Chicago for two weeks because they couldn’t get goods to the rail head.
It’s a mess beyond description and totally in the hands of politically uncoordinated actions too demonstrate virtuous self promotion. Rather than mathematical calculations to calibrate a path to a desired outcome they decided the importance of their self-importance outweighed basic math and have laid waste to the economy.
A shame as they could have reached their goals over time and still served the public. Whether you agree with their goals or not they chose a path that sidelined any sense of responsibility for the people they serve.

Emissions rules are but one cause of the problem. Nearly every aspect of our economy has been massively disrupted for just shy of two full years, by malevolent people who want to eliminate U.S. sovereignity and remake the world under one global government.
We have a national shortage of truck drivers. We have crazed not-vax “mandates” that threaten to throw employees–both private and public secotr–on the street. We have insufficient and outmoded transportation (including port, road, rail, etc.) infrastructure. We have a ruling class accountable to no one.

STAY AWAY FROM MONTREAT AND THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH…HIGHLY INFECTED WITH THE COVID ….YOU ARE ENDANGER OF INFECTION IF YO U COME IN CONTACT!!
I found a much nicer to eat my lunch outdoor,.
BOYCOTT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH!!!

Oh wait, it is leftists and Joe doing it!!!
If CA can have its own EPA that is more stringent than the federal EPA, why can’t states have their own FDA that is more stringent than the federal FDA? This way states can tell Big Pharma their covid vaccines need at least 5 more years of clinical trials before they can be approved for other than emergency use.
Better yet, state FDA’s approve Ivermectin and HCQ off label
Wish Fl would. That would make DeSantis even more popular.
I just posted a link to one of your shipping articles to the San Francisco CBS station’s youtube channel. Hope it helps spread the word.
Shared as you asked Sundance! Added @thelastrefuge2 and a link to the your work….
I’m a little confused. If there is a lack of truckers to haul the freight. Why are truckers having to wait all day or overnight to load? Lack of truckers should cause trucks that make it to the port to get quickly loaded, There should be no lines.
You obviously have not followed the story. You have to have a truck that meets California green standards which means it is less than 3 years old.
To add. Compliant truckers are charging more to move containers…low supply of compliant trucks due to increase demand.
Economic 101.
Non compliant trucks move outside the state lowering the local Supply
I have been following this for several days And read CT multiple times per week. I get that there is a shortage of truckers in California and nationwide. But if that is the problem at the Docks, why are truckers waiting in line for 8+ hours? A shortage of truckers should mean, no truckers or trucks to wait around. How does a shortage of truckers translate into long lines of trucks waiting to be loaded?
So many containers have stacked up that it takes a long time to locate, unStack, and then load the appropriate container.
The majority of the time, there is no trailer available unless the truck brings its own. When that happens, the truck leaves empty-handed.
Larry – See also Slowcobra’s comment just below this one.
I think, too, there are soooo many containers offloaded, that the workers cant easily get to a particular trucker’s specific load.
Well said.
just wait until the world economic markey begins to unwind the financial disaster looming in CHINA right now.
God Bless America
The spoon analogy/metaphor is quite an exaggeration.
Emissions rule change was in fall 2020. I get how it slowed things down, but the ships were piling up last summer before the rule change. I saw them on my weekly drives across the Bay Bridge to San Francisco. Probably also has to do with people sitting at home, getting stimulus and welfare checks to spend on goods made in Asia, and less made at home. Which is what MAGA was all about -leveling the import export playing field with taxes on China. Add low interest rates to the mix.
California AB-5 took effect Jan 1, 2020, limiting independent truckers within the state.
People who WANT THE TRUTH;
That’s right.
went to twitter (ugh, the sewer) and sent the image to a few folks
Twitter has lost its mind
China owns Proconsul Biden. They also own Gabby Nuisance and California’s Democrats.
So why would they pass a crippling regulation they knew would screw up China’s supply chain at Christmas, no less? I don’t believe they would do that except at China’s insistence.
It makes me think this is Economic warfare, perhaps a prelude to the real thing. Yes–it seems counter-intuitive that China would want this economic debacle–but the same could be said of the last Deep State/ Politburo black op against America–the Plandemic.
This is not economic warfare. It state government stupidity believing their actions will improve standard of living.
The three year rule (new truck) has no basis in fact just more revenue for the state.
Looks like it’s getting spread around on Twitter.
Yeah, it is tougher to shadow ban the Tweet when 50,000 a sending it out…
Did these emissions standards just go into effect this past year?
Both coasts.
Saw a tiktok yesterday showing all of Tacoma’s cranes idle, too.
Was pulling the RV down I-95 South by The Golden Isles and saw a dually pick-up truck hauling a shipping container back to port in Jacksonville, FL. Never have seen that before!
They set the test cycles to 50, probably, too.
I have never tweeted in my life and I’m very proud of that fact.
Screw Twatter, I have spread this far and wide. I’m sure others here have done the same. Thanks!
F’n rebel SD!
God speed to you my friend. God speed…

Just retweeted for you .as I am sure many others are doing! 🙂
Twitter like Rino’s run from Sundance, the sun light blinds them ,
I posted to Twitter. For all of my 26 followers. Hope I don’t get blacklisted
With the current supply shortage, I seriously doubt you have that many golf balls unless you’ve been diving at the TPC.
This is exactly why you are blacklisted on Twitter.
We have a shortage of truck drivers because the pay for a new driver sucks and restricted the number of hours they can drive per day.
