Something occured to me today.
The negotiations and agreements reached with the Taliban in Doha was concurrent with the pearl clutching and hand ringing made over the President’s desire to reduce and pull back from the embedded troops operating with the Kurds along the Turkish/Syrian border.
My question is partly two fold.
First, why was this negotiation process keep on the down low? I read a tremendous amount of news from many, many international sources.
Never heard a deal was reached with the Taliban for US/Nato to leave Afghanistan. That was not until May of 2021 announcement of the defacto fait accompli.
If there was any reporting on it, it was very singular in source reporting and likely a 3AM report that quickly trended off the radar.
The second aspect is, “The very same concerns that drove the 24/7 news cycle for weeks on end over the Kurdish troop embeds reduction are manifestly a 1000 times greater when it came to Afghanistan vis the Taliban.
So why the news block out at the time.

There by not having to spell out the specifics and the political terms that may have spelled out a checks and balances to keep the Taliban to its word to seek a political settlement with the Afghanistan government. Basically, not pull the kind crap that led to this route.
Somewhere in the bowels of the Pentagon and Congressional Armed services Committee MUST exists exactly this type of inter agency discussions.
For it is now patently clear the Biden administration actively choose not follow through with these very likely laid out plans and repercussions if the Taliban pursued a path not on tract with the political path reached in Doha.

This was likely to be followed up with pushing the Taliban to reach a settlement with the Afghan National Government as our presence drew down.

Basically, the Taliban was being measured twice and being found a dollar short during this draw down time frame. If only the will to act was followed through.

Extending the deadline has nothing to do with anything except it pushed the withdrawal into the “fighting season”. He could have delayed a year until AFG winter. He could have kept the same number of troops that were there already keeping order with no deaths.

The numbers were quite fluid with the chaos, so I am not sure how accurate those numbers were. The overwhelming and senseless loss of life is unimagineable. The entire world is affected by our stolen election, with the incompetent installee responsible for so much heartache.
