Where I live, I’ve seen eagles, redtail hawks, deer, migrating geese, the Bitterroot Range draped in blazing sunsets on my four-mile commute from my rural home to my small shop in town. I also see an Unborn Lives Matter flag and several American flags. The landscape is stunning. My neighbors are good people. I feel safe her; so would she if she could leave her prejudices home.
We all know how to get along and don’t try to shove out politics up our neighbor’s noses. Whan that does happen, it’s rare but might result in a bar fight in which she wouldn’t be a participant anyway.
What she finds disturbing reveals a tendency toward a paranoid personality disorder and certainly a logical flaw in her thinking: the flag does nor equate with the message she describes and does not threaten her and she is not unsafe in its presence.
We just celebrated a memorial weekend honoring thousands of her countrymen (I use the term generically, to refer to mankind, thank you,) who died so she could feel safe under that flag and comforted by its presence for as long as it flies here. I’m sorry for her that she doesn’t get THAT message.

When I was young I was uptown getting the car fixed with dad at our small shop in a very small Wisconsin town. Our town was very patriotic and the village crew always had the flags up.
On that given day, a guy in town who we as kids thought was a bit off, came into the shop and borrowed a broom. He went over to the light pole where the flag was raveled and undid to make sure Old Glory hung correctly.
I watched and asked my dad why did he do that. He did not say a word. I found out later that this guy who unraveled the flag had fought for our country and had shell shock. Yup, that’s what they called it back then.
My dad knew what the guy was suffering from and his silence to this day says it all.
