There is no such thing as a good public school. The public schools all use the same text books and hire teachers from the same Education programs/colleges.
At a minimum, public schools assume that some things are just right or true. This includes climate change is an existential crisis, abortion is good, premarital sex is expected, your sex is whatever you say you are, Christians bad, etc.
They are not public schools. They are government schools.
Government run and financed via the public’s tax dollars = public schools

Calling them “public” schools implies something that isn’t true. We the public don’t own or control these schools. We just pay for them. Calling them government schools is more accurate because it indicates the institution that controls them. The people who work at these schools are government employees, they don’t work in the private sector.

Unfortunately many of the Catholic high schools in my area (St Louis) have fallen into this same realm…in some instances worse than our local public schools.

Today parents in Washoe County (Reno) attended a school board meeting to hear about plans to teach youngsters about “social justice”. One lady carried a sign that said “my 8 year old is not your activist”.

In the 1960’s and prior, we got a fundamentally good education. It prepared us for life. College was not automatic and in many cases was not even a consideration due to finances. I left high school and began a 40 plus year career with a good company and am now happily semi-retired with a good pension. We’ve got to take this back. I watched my granddaughters struggle through these mind numbing curriculums, but her Mom and I taught them to think and study on their own. It is the only thing that saved them from being numb skulls.
btw, a little off topic, but I also learned from a reliable source that Coca Cola in Reno has lost a lot of their drivers to Pepsi and other outfits, and that their office help is out in the warehouse palletizing freight.

Home schooling is all well and good, but we ARE paying taxes for this crap, and many of the remaining students in public school will be future leaders. It’s about all the children, not just one’s own, and how they are educated will dictate how this country will be run in the future. Private schools are even getting into this subversive curriculum. We should all be concerned. Many parents will not be able to afford anything but public school, whether they can’t afford for one parent to stay home, or they can’t afford a private education.

^ This is why we need a pure voucher system where each parent/guardian receives a voucher for each K-12th pupil representing the net amount, after NECESSARY (not government and union desired) costs are deducted, so the pupils can be sent wherever the parent(s)/guardian(s) chooses to send them.
Let’s see how public schools fare when they are forced to compete in a free market on an equal footing with private schools, charter schools, home-schooling, etc… That’s right, the parent(s)/guardian(s) can keep the voucher and use it to home-school if they like.
I believe the number of pupils in the public schools system would rapidly diminish in only a decade forcing mass closures and layoffs of the radical leftists misusing the public education system to indoctrinate children into their radical leftism…God willing.
The Travis County TX (Austin) school district has had to consolidate and close schools. They are having to spend money marketing the public schools on TV, radio and billboards. People are flying to the suburbs. A couple of other large districts in TX have announced they will offer free online schools next fall and have created programs where any child from anywhere in the state can attend these online classes. Programs like these will further cut into attendance and funding. Parents talking with their feet. That’s going to be the catalyst needed to change this.
Parents & teachers who stand to face the illegal actions of School Boards across this Country, are the heroes who will be instrumental in preserving our Constitutional Republic for future generations.

when I went to college as an alternate type of college student (age 50), teachers were considered the dregs of the college education system…those without the intellectual capacity to perform in other degree fields went into teaching (journalists majors were the next lowest in IQ)…after getting the absolute lowest cohort and indoctrinating them during their undergrad degree they are then REQUIRED to be furthered focused for the cause as they continue towards their “state certification” in order to be allowed to teach in the classroom
My wife was Certified K-12 Regular Ed and Special Ed. She specialized in SED (Severe Emotionally Disturbed) children but taught in a regular classroom as well.
28 years ago she left teaching to stay home with our children. After the kids were out and in college, she wanted to get back into the classroom. She started as a substitute teacher.
One of the best teachers I have known, lasted all of six weeks in the disaster that is considered education today. Admin, fellow teachers, the whole enchilada was a train wreck she wanted nothing more to do with.
K-12 Education today, to be blunt, sucks. There are good teachers still trying to stay focused and teach the kids but they are leaving more and more.
The real 60’s radicals won that battle. Now their spawn are running things. The war to take the schools back will go on for decades.
The solution is really simple. The MAGA folks in every schools district need to run their own majority slate of candidates. It really comes down to how your board is elected (e.g. at large and who gets the most votes) and ensuring your slate gets the majority. Then lay waste to all this left wing crap and ensure accountability in education.
If there are more MAGA candidates than required for the majority, then some need to bow out and not split the votes.
In Charlotte, NC a local news reporter did an in-depth research project on a high school where parents and teachers were concerned about mandatory social issue attendance…(including a Homeroom class) without anyone notifying the parents. We need to come up with a better term than “public schools”. The inference here is that it is low cost and treats all students the same. In reality, we see it’s driven by those in our community and nationally who have agendas, and are doing their best to harm our children with guilt or privilege due to the color of their skin or their sexual orientation.

I feel the same, glad my oldest is done with this before it took hold, my 16 year old has two more years but at least is past the younger grades where they are starting them young. I don’t think they are doing this in our district, but I am keeping an eye and ear out.

Do school boards usually have districts or is it a county wide “pick 7” or other odd number? Maybe if districts, some speakers could call out names of specific board members (maybe not last names, I would like last names, but narrative would be trying to ID the member for harassment) and ask all their constituents in the audience to stand up (or raise hands if standing up is threatening to the snowflakes in the board). Constituents of members could be a nice touch.
With their gavel, cutting the mics, and telling the audience of PARENTS to find their decorum…these board members act like dictators, totally unconcerned with any opinions, concerns of the people that voted them in.

I find it fascinating that the only videos I’ve seen so far have been of women confronting school boards. I’m not saying the dads aren’t standing up, too, but it seems that far more women are taking the burden on themselves to fight this crap. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with momma bears, but I’d like to see some ferocious daddy bears growl, too!
In this case, it probably has to be mad moms. Board would see dads as threat and who knows what would happen then. Probably hog tied and taken to jail. Yes, dads should be able to confront this, but considerable discretion needs to be utilized in the current climate.
This CRT has been going on for a while at the graduate level (2017 at least). I was subjected to it while in grad school…so bad, I had to sit down and decide if it was worth the pain and cost, to listen to this clap trap nonsense. I ultimately decided I would not subject myself to it and the cost, so I have let one dream die.
And one final comment: I’ve said it before: It’s HIGH time parents started demanding that teachers be transparent with them about what they’re teaching kids. I was mocked for saying this a while back because apparently school “rules” don’t allow parents to go in classrooms or even on school campuses. BullSh..! If you’re tax money is paying for a service, you have EVERY right to thoroughly inspect that service and hold accountable those using YOUR tax money.
