The original post was an assembly of thoughts from the fantastic team helping to keep CTH level and steady. It was accidentally published prior to my review.. /SD.
The Treehouse previously operated on the WordPress/Automattic platform without a lot of fanfare; a genuine labor of love. At first it was just a blogging platform, but as technology became more sophisticated, things got better for you, the loyal reader and the admin team. Specifically, CTH was able to monetize the site with advertising, which allowed me to spend more time doing research, writing articles and managing the direct concerns of the readers. Running ads was a checkbox, we turned it on and it just worked.
It’s safe to say that we were unaware of the amount of technical value, managing day to day technical issues, that blogging platforms like WordPress.com delivered. That all changed when CTH was deplatformed by Matt Mullenweg’s WordPress.com.
Fortunately, the software that operated the site was “open-source,” which means we had the option of moving the whole site to new servers without a lot of TECHNICAL issues. It was was really the scale of content and the goal to preserve the decades-long library (w/internal citations) that provided the greatest challenge. However, keeping the machines running is a different game when every page view now comes at a cost.
Within the migration process we also discovered the dynamic of cost driven by the commenting system; the conversation on the porch about the stories, research and analysis. As we have often repeated: it is the conversation that matters; that conversation is your comments and fellowship.
These lessons about self-hosting a website have been very expensive. It turns out the popularity of the site requires a six-digit annual budget just to maintain the technical status quo. Independent server costs, the cache system, the CDN and bandwidth allotments, the auto-leveling needs for stability, the software licenses, the email notification system and the support developers all come with an expense. Those costs do not include all of the unpaid effort by loyal moderators, tech support and volunteers that are managing these things right now.
The initial saving of CTH and the relaunch (a great accomplishment by some fantastic tech support) was also expensive. CTH was blessed and thankful to have people that care about truth reach out to offer assistance; and CTH readers were generous in offsetting those emergency costs. Many people stepped in to help save our little corner of the internet and with a core tech team (scruffy but smart) we stand on solid ground again.
My task now is to find a revenue model that works best for the important people, you; the Treehouse readers.
Advertising seems like the obvious move, but like many nowadays, we have long been suspect of things like covert tracking (3rd party cookies); and we accept the entire content delivery ecosystem is in flux at the moment. Privacy has been our CTH priority for years, and recent events -which include our own targeting- affirmed the wisdom of putting privacy at the forefront of our discussion.
As we are seeing corporations are now openly operating their businesses with the intent to influence politics, their advertising money is now a weapon they can use to generate leverage over website content. Not only is Big Tech making ideological determinations over monetization, but advertising companies are now using their budgets to align with Big Tech’s ideological goals. This is not a good outcome. Corporate fascism is on the advance.
As Scott Adams points out in the tweet below, ad revenue is now determining the type of information we can find on the internet. Many “conservative” information websites and platforms are increasingly making content determinations in the same way that MSM cowers to the almighty corporate dollar. You might be stunned to know just how prevalent this is; I know I was.
It won't be long before consumers of ad-based news media are seen as mental slaves to ridiculous narratives while the consumers of subscription-based news are the only free thinkers remaining to preserve our system. @RubinReport @ggreenwald
— Scott Adams (@ScottAdamsSays) April 19, 2021
My priority with content has always been to stay steadfast to the motto: “The Truth Has No Agenda“, and CTH has declined financial offers because we never wanted to be in a position where outside elements have any influence on our content or conversation. Additionally, our crowdsourcing efforts not only produce great results, but our community credibility is our strength.
With all of the operational costs in mind, here is what we need to figure out: What is the best revenue model for the readers of the Treehouse?
I need to figure this out soon, or there is a slight risk there won’t be a Treehouse. Fortunately, software is soft, meaning we can experiment with models until we get it right.
We like the idea that we are in charge of our own destiny in that we are running our own servers and out of the reach of Big Tech, so while other “Free Speech” platforms like Substack, Locals and Minds look very attractive, it’s always going to be somebody else’s platform, making the enterprise dependent on their viability (remember MySpace?).
Additionally, from the outset I have always wanted to provide information free to everyone; that remains my priority. I do not like the idea that information comes with a cost; as a result a subscription based website was always a non starter for me. That said, I foresee coming up against pressure to find a revenue model (which pays for the expenses) before it’s too late.
That leaves CTH with a few paths forward to consider:
- Turn on 3rd party Advertising (we’re likely going to do that for now)
- Some kind of crowd-sourced sponsorship (PBS annual drives, Reoccurring PayPal or Subscribe Star)
- Subscription with tiered content (not all content is free) [I don’t like]
- Pay-to-not-get-what-you-don’t-want (Pay to turn off ads)
- Something else (because we are considering everything)
There also might be something else I just don’t know what it is.
As I look at the landscape I see in front of us, my goal would be to establish a proprietary system for revenue via ads that allows CTH to work directly with sponsors and not with 3rd parties. In that process we would have full control and retain 100% privacy. But to achieve that goal CTH would need to have seed capital to launch a business model and at least one person to coordinate it.
The Conservative Treehouse has always been about you, not me. For me the sharing of information is a labor of love; I truly enjoy the fellowship, the research and the writing assembly. Together with tips, crowdsourcing and research we put the information together and write articles about the ‘Occam’s Razor’ conclusions. Through the years CTH assembled a network of allies in the fight who form a deep rebel alliance of information. However, staying outside the reach of Big Tech and keeping the site anti-fragile to their attacks is a little costly.
So I turn to the experts… the people who really matter… YOU !
Before any decisions are reached I want to hear what scenario makes the most sense to you. Let me know, below.
Love to all,
Sundance

“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.” [Isaiah 54-17]
Two random tho’ts:
1.) I get a lot of email from “conservatives” and/or “conservative” outlets. Most of which I never asked for in the 1st place. Some I did, and in looking through those today, not a one of them isn’t selling something, sponsored by something, or looking for donations. Epoch Times, Charlie Kirk, Dr SHIVA, just to name a few.
Since you are sending out emails, make them count, especially if you are paying for them.
Personally I don’t need an email for every post. I’ve probably already read it by the time I see the email. anyway. End of day or something similar is fine. Or even weekly, as I had it set up on WP.
2.) You said once that CTH was like a mini-facebook/social media site within a site, and the cost of that was too much for WP. Maybe rethink where you are and how you operate.
With new social media options coming on board, can you dispense with commenting here and take it to social media instead? A group page, where members come and go as they please, comment as they please, and the cost is paid for by the social media company.
What is driving the cost, old or new? Bells and whistles?
I’ll donate 50 bucks if you identify the journalists that you gave your dossier to that did nothing with it. I’ll kick in 50 more if you ID all of the congressional contacts by name that did nothing with the information you provided.
I am not wading through 700+ comments but my idea is this;
Charge to access the comment board and keep the blog articles free of charge.
CTH comments section is wonderful resource that should ideally remain accessible to all.
The free exchange of ideas is an integral part of fixing what’s broke in our country.
Although it’s a valid option, to raise funds, I simply can’t get behind monetizing participation in an invaluable comments section.
It would invariably set a precedent that those willing to pay $$$ have more of a ‘voice’ than everyone else. IMHO, not good…
To that end, those active, and/ or appreciative of the comment section can simply ‘DONATE’ to the site on a voluntary basis…
Respectfully, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
Leave the comments section out of this (please?)
If it is invaluable you should have no problem supporting it.
Exactly!
Just hit the long-since established ‘DONATE’ button (as I just did again) and do what you can to help…
Mandating a fee to share / read valuable opinions directly from your fellow Patriots is not the way forward, IMHO.
Perhaps that notion is lost on one who admittedly chose not to “wade” thru comments, so I get where you may be coming from. Just not in agreement…
Ya ok sport. Been donating to this site for YEARS. And not a measly chicken shit amount either.
I will be here as long as SD and crew let me stay, no matter how the site is funded.
I am a almost 25 year music promoter in San Antonio, Texas, and the entire USA. I would pay to run ads on TCTH. I also have pro America record labels that would also do that. We are in the trenches fighting the culture war, with the kids and young Adults.
I’m trying to start up a freelance proofreading/copy editing business. Would also love to run ads on the Treehouse!
Please send us an email with your contact info. Thank you.
To the regular address listed at the top of the page? Or is there a separate one for advertising?
Please send us an email with your contact info. Thank you.
Would happily pay to remove ads.
Would be open to twice per year funding drives.
Would be interested in merch, especially thought provoking &/or funny T-shirts.
Thank you for this service!
Old adages come to mind…
“Freedom Isn’t Free”
“Quality Comes at a Price”
“Time is Money”
My dad’s favorite, “Those post holes aren’t gonna dig themselves”.
I, like may others, don’t have the time or want to dredge the internet looking for the content provided by Sundance and crew. Along with so many insightful posters.
I’m truly fascinated by the amount of knowledge provided by CTH and fellow travelers. There is just too much value here to let CTH slip away for lack of funding or effort on our part.
I don’t have a quick answer to necessary revenue sourcing – wish I did. I trust CTH will make the right decision after
poring over comments, suggestions, and their own inside knowledge.
Whatever it is – I’m in. Digging post holes if needed.
Is there the possibility to add a Facebook like component to CTH that we would pay for which would be add free?
That way we would be able to leave Facebook. Those who would prefer not to pay for add free component would only have access to CTH emails. Those who pay would have email plus ability to share with friends That way there is choice.
Piled politics higher and deeper only to find out that truth and excellence don’t sell, so been there. The subscription model isn’t ideal, but it’s not an ideal world.
I was a long time lurker at the Treehouse before I ever commented. I read and then did my own research and slowly saw the truth of what is happening in our nation. It is now my mission to spread the truth. I can guarantee that when I stumbled across CTH if it would have been a pay site, I would have moved on. I share CTH often and I am sure many here do. I am willing to finance my mission by donating. This allows so many more people to experience true investigative journalism and freedom. I want the Treehouse to stay free, with all content available to open the eyes of the next one who happens to come across it as I did. I would love some way to do an automatic monthly donation as life gets busy. Thank you, Sundance and crew for letting truth be your mission and caring enough to share it with us. We should not hide our light under a basket (or paywall).
Have you considered reaching out directly to President Trump, Don Jr and their team as potential investors who might be interested in adding and coordinating with their new upcoming media strategy platform?
MAGA needs and must have true free speech platforms, free from the bias controlled media, TV and most print outlets.
PT has discussed their plans of a new Twitter like platform which is good but an already up and running CTH coupled with direct PT/MAGA support would elevate CTH IMO to an even greater national status. Readership would explode 10-20 fold IMO overnight.
Nationalism i.e. MAGA needs to unite in a bigger way with communication platforms that are united in order to become a bigger, stronger and coordinated voice nationally as we move to 2022 and 2024. And even if PT chooses not to run in 2024, theses united communication vehicles MUST be in place with direct ties to MAGA leadership such as PT and Gov. DeSantis for effective messaging.
Since the election of 2020 the game IMO has changed and it is critical that MAGA has a unobstructed voice and platform to reach the people who seek truth.
Turning CTH into a subscription service is the simplest route and can be done fairly quickly but I would suggest “going big” if possible and there is no bigger stage than Donald J. Trump.
It doesn’t hurt to reach out to him or his team before you decide what to do.
My 2 cents.
One other tidbit if CTH and PT’s team were to connect/unite………..
Sundance would have a direct line and even possibly regular meetings with the inner circle of the creator of MAGA.
Imagine all that Sundance could share and advise………
Now that would be powerful IMO.
If the Trumps would truly go in with Sundance, I believe this would be an undefeatable site! Many other ideas, such as the wearable merchandise, were originally thought of by the Late Great El Rushbo, so we know that concept works. I appreciate the updated security Sundance has installed. Last night I don’t recall looking at any site not normally visited, but this morning NOTHING on my computer would boot up. That has never happened before. I could get to my Malwarebyte protection site and ran a scan; nothing came up, but suddenly everything else was accessible.
Frankspeech.com is already open and would love to see your articles there. I think Frank will be a great hub as well as the upcoming platform of President Trump for the MAGA folks. You are one of the few, perhaps the only one that speaks with your heart and can connect to mine when I read your blogs. It is like no other. I will subscribe if that’s what will be decided on. I see people here don’t like ads, but that’s the bread and butter if subscriptions are not enough. Please understand this folks. We believe in capitalism after all.
I prefer subscription, am less amenable to paying to not see ads, am not a fan of running ongoing fundraising (that can become tiresome after a while and can be very labor intensive )
Quality, thoughtful merch is appealing but as as add-on, not a core revenue stream ( that can turn into a business unto itself and can drain effort from core mission)
First off- I don’t know how I lived (not literally) before I found the Fellowship of the Tree House. As good fortune had it, I somehow came across the site and have been hooked ever since. It is my daily “must read” for the day and I often check back several times thereafter, especially when there’s lots of news.
My suggestion- first look at similar sites that are successful and see how they do it. Here are some that I read that seem to be doing okay financially:
PJ Media- they have daily free stories, ads and VIP paid subscriptions for certain articles and features.
American Thinker- ads and donations
Steyn online- Mark Steyn- he has a club with paid admission, sells merchandise and services. No ads that I know of.
American Greatness- ads
Look- it’s human nature that you don’t really appreciate something unless you pay for it.
I value Sundance’s work and this site enough that I will be glad to pay a modest subscription fee. I’m sure that there is a way to advertise that will generate money and not be too offensive.
Thanks as always, Sundance & Company. You guys and gals are irreplaceable.
Sundance
I’ll happily pay to keep your site going. Just let me know what you want and need. You’re the best and we love you for your efforts!
I will support whatever you decide Sundance, this is my go to since 2012. 🙂
I haven’t been on the site a lot lately… but I would love it if there was a way to set up a monthly donation. Whether I read it or not, I would make an a”auto-pay” monthly donation to CTH
Towards the top of the page on the right, under the prayer candle. You can make a one time or set up ongoing monthly donations using PayPal or credit/debit card.
CTH has many supporters among conservative talk show hosts, so take advantage of them to see how they can assist. Rush Limbaugh turned me onto CTH, and though gone, you can reach out to those in charge of his legacy show to see how they can help too. Also, merchandise and a donation button would definitely help… but I hate PayPal, so provide other options.
The option is towards the top of the page on the right side under the prayer candle. You can make one time or monthly donations via PayPal, debit or credit card. 😀
I am with you on paypal – I closed my account when I discovered their left-leaning bent!
Paraphrasing-
Donald Trump said:
You’re going to think, so you might as well think big.
My best advice to you Sundance is to do what Donald Trump said… THINK BIG!
Has this idea been offered as yet??
Purchase extra LIKES through the producer CTH (Sundance)
‘….One of the reasons I visit this website is because I can read and appreciate great articles or great commentary LIKE that one!’
Have you thought that?
Well, now you can show you really LIKE a comment or article by liking it once for free, but twice or more by having purchased LIKES through an account you can always replenish when running out of LIKES. If you LIKE a comment you can still do it once for free by simply tapping the first LiKE BAR.
However, you can tap a second LIKE BAR that will show only with a purchase of LIKES. In order to get the second or third LIKE to show you must have purchased LIKES though a donor account. The price of LIKES?
The best comments will produce more revenue for CTH.
I don’t like the idea of a subscription. There are way too many people struggling right now and it’s not going to get any easier. A huge number of Americans already feel disenfranchised and are looking to find like minded people. I, myself live in what used to be a solid RED county in a used to be solid RED state. It’s now shifting to purple and will no doubt be blue within a decade. When I am out in public, I realize that I am subconsciously looking for the people like those here on this site. The people who eschew wearing a mask at all; those who rip it off their faces the second they cross the threshold of a store ( I admit to being one of these people – the store has the right to demand a mask, and it’s my right to choose to shop there and comply or go somewhere else). I’m looking for people who will look me in the eye and speak, even just a hello, or a thank you for a door being held open. I am looking for NORMALCY, and this site has been one of the very few oases of sanity and critical thinking that I have found (along with some wicked humor!!)
All that to say that I don’t like any kind of paywall for access. If Go Fund Me has shown us anything, it’s that just a small amount from everyone can accomplish great things. I have read here ideas about contacting celebrities, known political entities, I’m not really in favor of that either. Change creates Change. I don’t think the idea of growing TCTH in size so it will be able to influence elections is the way to go, it always seems to lead to corruption of some kind or another. TCTH has never felt like a BUSINESS. I feel that this site is for educating and supporting people of all walks of life. If we can educate ourselves and all who come to this site, it will lead to better outcomes. This is truly grassroots.
Having said that, I would love to have a TCTH t-shirt, I’m a sucker for t-shirts and hoodies, lol. Maybe a tree of life stylization with an actually treehouse “hidden” in the branches and the initials or full title “hidden” in the roots?
My 2 cents.
Sundance, reach out to me via email.
I may have an option to discuss with you that will be good for the site, for our MAGA adventure and for other treepers on several different levels. I will look for your email.

This culture war is one we can’t avoid anymore. It may already be too late to change fragile minds, but we must support the conservative agenda or be ruled by tyranny. I’ll contribute anyway I can to promote America and our Constitution. Time to take a stand. Whatever it takes!
Whatever it takes is dead on!
I hope this message is read by Sundance.
I am a longtime reader at “The Last Refuge”.
The article by Sundance explaining the challenge to keep the web site “free” is powerful.
I am in my seventies.
I value the extraordinary work Sundance has done over the years because it taught me a great deal.
My ‘Comments’ have been sporadic and, hopefully, concise when I made/make them.
Therefore, I wish to contribute a stipend regularly if it allows TLR to continue.
One of the considerations on the List was “Pay-To-Block-Ads”.
Personally, if it cost me under $10.00 per month I would immediately pay for a year with an annual recurring.
I welcome any questions.

check with Lucianne – they went through this a year or so ago. Had a very creative fund raiser drive – apparently wasn’t good enough so went to ads. I always read her articles. Whatfinger is good, and yes, the ads are annoying as hell, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Not a lot of choices out there. If you need to grow (and you do) you need more staff to efficiently manage all areas of the “business”. I’ve been through this with several non-profit organizations. Volunteers, even the best, only can do so much – there’s always something else that comes first, and one needs back, up (redundancy) for all tasks . Sundance, you are the most important element here and we must be sure to protect your health and well-being. Your contributions are, necessarily, limited by time, etc. We need to keep you from burn-out or you cannot sustain your level of involvement. B
Run a marketplace where goods bought/sold similar to eBay with percentage going to cth. Ms Dog used facebook marketplace, Ebay, Listia.
Read through a lot of comments and I agree about Paypal. Don’t support the enemy. Put all social media links in alphabetical order and collect a fee for each “share” or require a subscription to use the links. Use the enemy to make money rather than them making money off us.
Ads are OK if they are presented in a different way. CTH having a history of rebels, why not restrict ads from being annoying. Traditional advertisers want to pay more for more zing, size, position, etc. There must be a new way to present advertising that attracts revenue but doesn’t drive away readers. Maybe an opening page you have to one time click through in a fun way before getting to comments. Ads might be required to present certain information and readers can somehow rate the ads to help generate revenue and organize the ads. Some kind of “like” system for ads that help the business, increase revenue for both parties, and provide a good product with an ad that helps us decide if they are worthy.
Having people pay to block ads is kinda defeating ads in the first place. Who will pay to advertise if most of us are blocking? CTH makes more money because its ads are bad?
The other thing I have not seen mentioned is a profit sharing type of subscription. Have different levels of donations but limit who can donate. Maybe posting history, how long have they been a Treeper, and some method of rating using likes, amount of posts, quality of posts etc. The “profit” would come in the form of perks like personal messages from Sundance or invites to events, or invites to inner circle discussions. It’s not just about paying the fee but exemplifying the ideas and goals of the Treehouse.
Reduce costs by reducing the number of posts. Have a positive system alongside “likes” that encourages posters to be concise and stay on point in the thread. No dislikes or criticizing silly repeated posts, simply reward and encourage “Quality” posts. There would be a reduction in “I agree” type posts by allowing people to rate with lets say 3 buttons. On Point, Well Written/easy to understand, or maybe Conforms well to posting guidelines. When ratings are good, posters might be offered a chance to submit articles, invited to become contributors, and have a favorites section for best posts available only to subscribers. Have a system that improves the typical Treeper experience and reduces the shear volume.
Just throwing some “rebellious” ideas out there.
Whatever you do, know that others will seek to use to their advantage.
Protect your clients anonymity, protect your site from intrusions and find others who are like minded to bring down costs.
Trump will lead the way in the latter I hope.
All the Best.
I am an 80 year old, unaffiliated conservative who found the Treehouse..seems like a long time ago but became a very serious lurker when spyware got underway. Now, I come here first for my learning. I would be glad to help with a modest subscription. Would offer more if I had it, but am on fixed income and now appreciating the hobble that imposes.
Wishing you good fortune, whatever route you chose.
This is my only news source. I will not be turned off to pay a subscription. Pay to comment, a subscription for a VIP room (see Bill Whittle). Whatever keeps the lights on and pays the bills.
Pay for no ads. It’s a no-brainer as far as I am concerned. Already doing with Just the News and like it. You get an accurate count of who pays for the service and who doesn’t while not losing readers since ads are involved at most all of the better sites. That helps you and your advertising clients know what reality is. As a paying subscriber you know I am a serious reader/contributor. Tells you who a lot of the core misfits are.
Hard pass to Paypal and fund raising all the time (PBS). You will never get what you want out of those models.
Rebel on, my friend. I’m in the boat.
ALL great input! Whatever it takes Patriots. We are at war!
OK, here’s my thoughts and feedback:
I want to start off by recognizing that this most delightful, informative, and important “voice of We The People” needs and deserves funding! Sundance and admin do not make any money off this site, but pour their blood, sweat, and tears into maintaining it–and it costs tremendously to do so in as safe and secure environment as possible as they can make it.
Just think of the time, effort, money, research, and “voice” that Sundance and gang provide us all with this site. It’s time to pony up to preserve this site of Freedom. Sundance has stated he needs funding and opened this thread to get our feedback.
I think a multi-prong approach is needed to secure appropriate lines of funding. Not only to maintain this site, but to also finally supply funds to at least minimally pay Sundance and admin for all their efforts.
So kindly allow me to express my preferences with the qualification that I will steadfastly remain and support CTH no matter what direction/choices that Sundance and gang make.
I agree with keeping this site open and available to all without a paywall so anyone can read and share posts, comments, and links provided within posts and comments. That is an overlying, foundational, and major purpose of this site for Sundance, admin, and I believe almost all of us fellow Treepers. (But, I’ll make a qualification for the ability to actually make comments below.)
I’m on board for a subscription to fund site and to comment. Site remains open without paywall so all can read, share, see and click links in posts and comments. But in order to comment pay quarterly or yearly the equivalent of say $5 per month($60 per year). 2,000 of us willing to do that would = $120,00 per year for a basic bottom line income that can be relied on by Sundance.
That’s certainly affordable for even the least financially equipped of us and certainly a small price to be provided a platform to express your opinion. If you are unable to pay that or unwilling to pay that, then you can still view posts and comments. If you feel that inhibits your “freedom of expression or fellowship” I have a couple of questions for you.
Next would be donation drives/opportunities to fund more than the basics to maintain this site. Lot’s of possibilities that I’d be willingly to donate extra for additional research, investigative reporting, site storage, guest posts/columns. etc.
Next of course would advertising. Not a bad idea at all, especially those sites or companies aligned with MAGA, Treehouse, Patriot, America 1st, agendas–those would be helpful for this site and fellow MAGA travelers as well as searching for and supporting like minded sites/companies .
But my preferences would be that advertising space be “banner” type between posts/threads, beginning and end of posts/threads, or in sidebar. I detest pop-up ads, ads within text of posts/threads/articles/comments, especially those that blink, move, sparkle, and have voice content that start automatically, etc. I find those most annoying and distracting.
Lot’s more thoughts/feedback, but I’ll stop there for now.
Except I just put my money where my mouth is and donated way above my suggestion of $60 per year.
I would love to see Sundance host a challenge drive. I’ll match my $100 donation again if it hits $100,000- or something to that effect.
God bless this site, Sundance and gang, and all Treepers and readers!
Gonna go donate mymyself right now
One thing I didn’t mention yesterday but thought about: you and your people might organize classes of some kind. Many do, and I guess they make enough money because they’ve done so for years.
Don’t have a clue exactly what you could teach that would be your own. Maybe organizational practices? At any rate, it would give your supporters a chance to meet personally (personal exchange is the only way people can really know each other; an internet friend is no friend at all).
Edit: A warning, in every meeting as many as two out of three people may be supporters or agents of those who oppose you or of those who intend to disrupt your work.
Merchandise…You could use a company like Printful where they handle the production, order fulfillment and shipping. I would very much enjoy my morning cup of coffee in a suspicious cat mug while I’m reading CTH. I would be proud to wear a Treehouse tee advertising my favorite place on the web.
If CTH was behind a paywall the first time I came to this site I would never have come back. I will pay for a subscription If that’s the way you choose to go but I strongly believe you will be turning away alot of potential new Treepers.
I understand why you are using PayPal for donations but adding an alternative method could satisfy those who do not want to use it and keep you up and running if PayPal decides to lock your account. Perhaps Stripe?
Subscription sites are preaching to the choir. By their nature they can’t have any outreach to those looking for alternate views.
Fundamentally, I’d pay for content (which I have in the past as a Rush 24/7 subscriber)…I’d also pay for a social media platform that is secure (accordingly, I don’t want the government to be able to identify who I am and calculate my social credit score according to their leftist agenda). A combined social media site with sponsored content would be the best of both worlds.
I just don’t have time to scan thru 796 comments, so I apologize if this has been already suggested.
Since Mike Lindell has bought his OWN Servers for his Frank Website,is there a reason that Sundance & Lindell cannot make some arrangements to share Lindell’s Servers?
You both are on the same side, so I cannot see a problem here!
Or Mike Adams at the Health Ranger/Briteon.
On further thought, I went to use the donate button.
Glenn Greenwald’s new site seems a scalable option, easy to use, subscription and public, side-by-side at a very reasonable cost. I prefer a “clean” site. Ads pop-up, drop-down, evade closing, obscure content and are just all around distracting to the point I often use Gmail’s “Outline” feature, which eliminates it all except content. Screw ads … bill me.
Can’t afford all the subscriptions. Maybe a conglomerate of sites can join together, offer a package subscription at a fair price, then divvy proceeds based on usage or some other formula.
I had no idea how much it cost to run a site. I do not know the first thing about it…all I know is that you love the Living God and whatever you decide I will do what I can to contribute.

The problem with monetizing our speech in such fashion is that we don’t hear each other and CTH doesn’t hear us. This conversation amongst Treepers, old, new, randos, is a resource for Sundance, who recently noted that the like feature alone provides valuable insight.
Also, we have so many who were lurkers, and many contemplating commenting I am certain, and raising the bar or adding impediments or complications of any nature will put so many of them off. I worry about that.
CTH is an absolute treasure, I dare say it has saved my life and provided me the opportunity to be a part of a truly greater whole despite the limitations my physical and other circumstances have imposed on me, and I believe we are consequential here in the lives of many as well as of our Nation. I want the blessing of CTH to be freely and readily available for all good people wherever they may currently be in their journey of understanding.
Sundance, you are much wiser than I. I will trust you to decide what’s best for your site. In the meantime, I’m sending you $100 to cover the expenses of a site that has become invaluable to me.
You guys are worth your weight in rubies but I can’t afford that. 😉
Best wishes for your fundraising efforts and budget plan for long term!
Thanks for all you do!
It would help if everyone here paid something. I’ve donated $5/mo through Paypal automatically for well over a year. Not hard for most people.
Longtime lurker/percher of the treehouse. Count on me for whatever you decide; subscription, adfree, donation… we need to stay connected!!

You go gurl!
Sundance and team – I would be happy with a monthly subscription. As you know, I live in Canada. With our cable package, we have 2 national TV news stations CTV, CBC , plus CNN running 24/7, I which I NEVER watch. The cable company does offer FOX NEWS, which is not in our regular cable package, so I have to pay extra to get that channel.
For the past 4 years, I have been coming to your wonderful site pretty much every day and really don’t know what I would do without it. As a result, whatever you decide to keep this site going, I will agree 100%. There is no hope with Trudeau. We have a federal election coming up again on Oct 16th, 2023 . Trudeau will payoff what ever Province he needs to win and get another majority.
Sundance, I have been blogging since the beginning of the year with a private company that uses WordPress as its’ software. I left the google chrome browser and found “Brave”. I also discovered that “Brave” featured a rewards program for content creators. They advertise no personal identifying information collected or stored by the platform. They allow patrons to “tip” content creators and funds are held in a separate banking entity using a bevy of different hard and crypto currencies. Content creators agree to allow advertisers to have a form of non-intrusive ads available to their readership, and in return Brave pays the content creator. I believe it might be something worth looking into. https://brave.com/brave-rewards/
All the best, and many thanks for your inspiration, courage, and steadfast determination!
1 – six figures? Seems a bit high for an open source. System .
2 – if you can get your cost down a lot… one possible approach might be to get a third party to set up a business advertising heavily on your site. Your site has a specific market segment covered and that lets you think about a modified version of instapundit’s conjugal “Helen’s page” to finance the treehouse.
Note that it has to be a third party to avoid tying up your time and, of course, your audience has to like what they sell.
3 – if you want some help clarifying this and maybe getting it to work contact me.
3rd party ads seem the way to go and then allow members to pay to turn them off if the ads bother them. Hardly if any of the ppl in this group of misfits can be brainwashed by popup ads and those that it annoys can pay to turn them off. Seems the most simple way to me.
Sorry, hit enter too quickly before asking about another possible source. Is crowd funding an option? Seems to be several places to get funding from outsides sources in the crowd fund market. You might even get hidden donors from the big conservative movement that dont wish to be named but wish to keep conservatism alive.
Donation for sure. Have done so with true name. Subscription would be fine if that’s the decision. Getting Trump on board would be fantastic!
Whatever you decide I will do my best to comply. You are one of the very few trusties and I don’t want to lose you.
