(Reuters) – Dozens of Republicans in former President George W. Bush’s administration are leaving the party, dismayed by a failure of many elected Republicans to disown Donald Trump after his false claims of election fraud sparked a deadly storming of the U.S. Capitol last month.
These officials, some who served in the highest echelons of the Bush administration, said they had hoped that a Trump defeat would lead party leaders to move on from the former president and denounce his baseless claims that the November presidential election was stolen.
But with most Republican lawmakers sticking to Trump, these officials say they no longer recognize the party they served. Some have ended their membership, others are letting it lapse while a few are newly registered as independents, according to a dozen former Bush officials who spoke with Reuters. (read more)

The relationship between President Trump and the GOP is best understood if you consider Donald Trump is really a 3rd party candidate who won as a Republican. He was never a member of “their club” and they always resented him, even as he led them to victory and raked in mountains of campaign cash.

Without us, the voters, your party, or any political party, is nothing. Did you really think that now that Trump has ripped off the mask and revealed to everyone the ugly truth about what the establishment GOP is all about, that with Trump out of the way, we’d just come flocking back to vote for more phony Republicans who make nice speeches about conservative values, but then who stab us in the back the first (and every other) chance they get?
It could not be more evident that establishment Republicans like you exist only to give the illusion of voters having a choice, and that your role in the play is to forever be the ineffective minority party that wins occasionally but does nothing to advance the ideas it claims to support, but mainly loses gracefully and lets the opposition have its way. It’s not that we, the voters, have changed… we’ve always supported conservative values, during my lifetime at least. We’ve always wanted our elected officials to make policy and law that reflects those values, the values you claim to support. It’s just that now every one of us knows that none of you actually intend to do any of the things you claim you would like to do.
If you don’t recognize the party anymore, that’s fantastic. The one you recognize is finished, and so is your cozy role as the controlled opposition that gets full membership in the establishment club by virtue of your service to the globalist elite. If you’re not hated and reviled by the establishment, you’re not doing your job, so we’ll have to replace you with someone who will.

I’m staying in the party for a few reasons. It’s much easier to overthrow from within than it is to assault from without. Name me the last independent that caucused with the republicans. But I can name a party leader, nonetheless, that was overthrown from within. Eric Cantor. And the guy that beat him was an unknown with no backing and little money. Cantor got out hustled.
Plus, Trump wants us to stay in the party. Because he knows it’s a lot easier to take over an existing power structure and party than it is to build one up from scratch. Now the question being, what’s our part. Be the foot soldiers. Find MAGA candidates to primary rinos. Run candidates in EVERY single congressional district. If you can’t find a candidate, be the candidate.
When it comes the Senate. Same thing. Governorship? Same old same old. Out work, outhustle, outraise, and out politic every single opponent. Whether that be a Democrat or a RINO. Fight for every inch. Fight as if your country’s future depends on it. Because it does.
Are we going to win every single time? Of course not. But just ask a Bolshevik if you need the majority for a successful overthrow. If you’re willing to research and find the best picks for your fantasy football league, but not willing to do the same for your country…then get the hell out of our way.
