I used to follow the Yellow Vest protests on RUPTLY every weekend. It was all video with no commentary and was about the only live stream source.

They are good protection against liquid mace or liquid pepper spray, the cannisters that can shoot a narrow stream 15 feet or so

They probably also have some efficacy against small pepper balls and rubber bullets, but the more mass an object has the more it’ll just collapse an umbrella. But even iin that case, you won’t get the full rubber-bullet bleeding welt as readily.
They won’t stop tear gas but they might do some deflecting / slowing of a tear gas cannister that’d otherwise break your jaw or eye socket if it hit you square.
So they’re actually a pretty good defense, they can collapse for carry when not in use and they’ll have some blocking / deflecting capability up to real bullets and more massive projectiles.
Also at that DC park is where I’ve seen the streaming mace/pepper spray used. The problem with the Democrats didn’t begin with Obama. We need only look back at the reason for the 22nd amendment. FDR was in the 30s and 40s what Obama is today and look at what LBJ did in between. They all fundamentally changed America. Between the policies of these three alone came the destruction of the nuclear family, particularly in Black families. The government teat took the place of the father. Sure it takes a sperm donor to create the kids but it takes a man in the home actively participating in the raising of the kids to be a father. Sometimes I wonder when I see the fathers of these murdered boys and men at press conferences. How often are they not only married to the mother but have they played an active role in raising the dead children? It just seems that they often don’t have a true closeness to the child. That is the sad part. Too many children, especially boys, need a role model in their lives every day, not an occasional meeting. The policies of these three presidents made it much easier for the “men” to step away from fulfilling the role of father and become accepted as sperm donors. The Great Society was hailed as a means to raise people out of poverty. The stranglehold of those policies have been around for more than 60 years and weren’t even beginning to abate until President Trump worked to reduce unemployment in the communities of minorities. The Democrats saw that happening and couldn’t allow their dependable flock to migrate from their plantation. Obama took the plans of FDR and LBJ to unprecedented levels. Steroids. Literally and figuratively.

I believe this is the “brand imaging” stage.
Then on the morning of the elections, in key precincts, local news will begin reporting that people (probably non-violent, paid for one day, only vaguely ideological recruits themselves) are showing up around polling areas dressed and “signaged” to look like BLM, Antifa, and all the other splinter groups we’re identifying now. Then the national news will pick up the story, and throughout election day the 24-hour news channels will be taking feed from local affiliates, so that the impression is that there’s no safe place to vote.
FEAR.
The only goal if all this that makes sense to me is as a set up for scaring away folks (people like my mom, for example) from the polls on election day. Then State AGs can “save the day” be allowing mail in ballots to be sent to those who did not vote on election day because of fear and chaos (that they allowed).
And let’s think smartly about this: If patriots are violently clashing with these Antifa-imposters with bellets, the effect on voting will be the same. If Election Day protesters are going to be resisted, they will have to be confronted well away from, and out of sight from, polling places, and without blocking the major roads that access those polling places.
Maybe we need to demand now of our mayors, legislators, or governors to declare that any “protest” which interferes with vehicle access anywhere on Election Day will be removed with “prejudiced dispatch.”

The GOP is not doing a very good job with information about voting in various states. Why have they not announced more polling places or more machines if they foresee problems?

The thing that worries me is the ability for the narrative to be, “This is happening right now under Trump’s leadership and he is doing nothing to stop it!” I have already heard that. The explanation that Federal help has to be invited in by the local politicians doesn’t calm people down.
