I saw an interesting theory that the big (deeper pockets) AI guys are calling for regulation because it will make it difficult for the smaller guys to compete and would put the smaller guys out of business. It would also make it very difficult for any new companies or startups to enter the space.

President Trump is trying to introduce the American System wherein gov’t has an equity position in critical industry and compel domestic manufacturing so the middle-class can thrive. thats not a theory thats a very common practice. the big guys ALWAYS ask for regs, because they have the money and power to navigate it; the little and new guys do NOT.
“Theory” in the context I wrote it refers to their motivation for asking for regulation. No one knows for sure and I could have written “possible reason” but chose “theory”.
Sharpshorts in the comment directly above yours gave another possible reason or “theory”.
Until we know exactly why they requested it, everyone that offers a possible reason is engaging in theorizing.

Regulations!” so that there won’t be any more up-and-comers to challenge them. These people would hold back the progress of the world because they’re scared of no longer being “top dog” in one little niche.

I keep seeing people saying this, and yet none of them can ever explain HOW exactly AI and data centers are going to bring about this Greatest Economic Development in history. What exactly is the business model here? Who is the customer? Because it looks very much as if the customer is going to be the government, and the business model consists of “private corporations” spying on us all the time and selling the data to Uncle Sam.
The best that can be said for AI is that its proponents are doing a very bad job of selling it to the public.
