With Acting DNI Bill Pulte coming into office, several people have requested my simple guide to identifying media leaks.
This reference resource is based on historic patterns and generally has an 80/20 accuracy rate. While there are some leaks that cross through the data pattern, in the aggregate this basic outline has shown to be correct.
The leak source identification can help interested political observers understand the motives and objectives.
When you see the term “exclusive” in the originating media report, this guide increases in accuracy:
- The State Department leaks to CNN
- The CIA leaks to The Washington Post
- The DOJ/FBI leaks to The New York Times and Politico
- DHS domestically leaks to the Wall Street Journal
- The National Security Council leaks primarily to Axios and Politico, NYT secondary
- The Pentagon leaks to Fox News and the Wall Street Journal (Axios more recent)
- Kash Patel leaks to John Solomon – Just The News
- ¹DNI leaks to the Wall Street Journal, however:
¹The ODNI gets a little complicated due to the structure of the ODNI. Each intelligence agency has a liaison office inside the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Generally, the topline guide above overlays with the desk assignment.
Example 1: CNN gets an ‘exclusive’ leak related to the DNI; the leak sourcing is therefore most likely to be the State Dept Desk inside the DNI office. (State Dept leaks to CNN)
Example 2: Washington Post gets an ‘exclusive’ leak related to the DNI. The leak sourcing is directly from the CIA liaison desk inside DNI. (CIA leaks to WaPo)
This is the consistent pattern that established itself over the past 20 years. It is generally accurate on an 80/20 basis. Meaning 80% of the time the origin of the leak can be identified this way with accuracy; 20% of the time it is not.
Hope that helps.

Always good to know your source- thanks for the info!
Pulte says thank you.
It was always refreshing listening to the briefings from CENTCOM-
It would work for the administration, too.
A daily briefing – no questions from attendees.
Not a “press” show.
Why not fire all the liaisons and make the agency directors report directly to the DNI, say weekly. Cut out the middle man so to speak. If the liaisons are leaking, problem solved. If not put the blame directly on the directors. Let them be responsible for and explain the leaks.
Our lovely First Lady.
Beautifully serene, graceful confidence under fire.
From the way back machine…my mom had a sofa just like that and very similar upholstery….sorry, not sorry off topic…(Gibbs Rule #6 Never apologize).
Don’t be sorry Aggiegirl, your Mom had great taste ❣️
In the presence of vultures.
We can’t admire or love her enough.
Vultures, so true !!!
That is a classic “life imitates art” photo.
Sundance’s Michelin Guide to DC leaks. I give it FIVE ***** STARS! 🙂
Bookmarked for future reference…. 🙂
The fact that these pipelines are the same whether Rs or Ds are “in charge” tells you all you need to know.
The goal is always to help the Democrats, because a) most/all of the employees in these departments are Dems and b) RINOs are more anti-MAGA than pro-America.
Wings of the Unibird…
That is one gawdawful SICK bird… 🙂
True Aggiegirl, Birds of a feather…
This should be permanent on the presidential page like the other stuff like the church, the soldier praying, etc.
I agree. Great suggestion.
I have the simpler list from years ago in a file but this list is dynamite.
.
Sundance! Put this under secret password!! This is important stuff detailing how we’re going to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! We can’t let Hussein Obama see!
I believe it is a very good thing to alert these enemies of America and all she stands for that we see them. That their subversions and twisted media affiliations are out in the open. That their corrupt, dishonest playbook to take down our nation is exposed.
That their carefully constructed under the radar labyrinths, like Gaza tunnels, are no longer underground.
A jolly good thing.
Shot down 80 planes.
There is ongoing debate over whether he was fatally struck by Allied ace Captain Roy Brown or, by ground machine-gun fire as he pursued a target low over the Somme valley.
This is the stuff that makes Sundance a hero in my eyes.
Pa, thankfully gets my love and admiration for this man and this website.
I was a loner for too many years, with no real connection to anyone and anything, outside my faith, till I came here.
I may not understand it all but the people I’m surrounded by in my personal life wouldn’t even get the basics of what Sundance has taught me! A lonely road it is!
So very simple to understand, now just eliminate the “LIASON POSITION”.
Should eliminate 80%+ of the leaks.
Seems like it would be basic common sense.
I think that is the current gist of the enterprise. I’m not 100% sure of it, but I know TG was working in that general direction.
Ratcliffe and Rubio were very much in support of that agenda.
Media shrieking about this temporary appointment tells all you need to know.
I hope he might tighten various Department “leakages!”
One can hope that
the Liason Positions will wind up on Pulte’s “Positions for Elimination” list
To whom does Susie Wiles leak?
Always appreciate your insight.
Now if only we had an AG. He/she/it could use this guide to steer an investigation.
If only.
Will acting Director of DNI, Bill Pulte clean out the Aegean Stables?
Or, have our intelligence agencies become an infestation that cannot be cleaned out?
He has asked for 300 names of people who should be terminated. Whistleblowers will name corrupt individuals, the corrupt will name whistleblowers and patriots. The smartest and most devious of the corrupt will include numerous useful idiots. Sort accordingly.
It’s incredible! I was just thinking about this very topic while taking a shower!
The concept of cleansing is a powerful one!
Get to work, Bill Pulte!!! Heh, Heh, Heh!!!
I recently had a leak from a front axle seal on my 92 Toyota and had to replace all the gaskets, seals and bearings. This was a much easier problem to solve than the frequent leaks the administration must contend with.
It’s funny, I was just thinking about this! Thank you, Sundance!
