While our politics are divergent, I have a lot of respect for Tim Cook as a CEO of Apple. Taking the CEO role after the death of Steve Jobs in 2011, Tim Cook has worked within Apple for almost 30-years. Cook will remain active as board chairman in the organization.
SEATTLE – […] John Ternus, the senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, will become Apple’s new CEO, according to a release from the tech giant. Ternus will take office on Sept. 1.
According to Apple, the decision was approved unanimously by the board of directors.
In a statement, Ternus said:
“I am profoundly grateful for this opportunity to carry Apple’s mission forward. Having spent almost my entire career at Apple, I have been lucky to have worked under Steve Jobs and to have had Tim Cook as my mentor. It has been a privilege to help shape the products and experiences that have changed so much of how we interact with the world and with one another. I am filled with optimism about what we can achieve in the years to come, and I am so happy to know that the most talented people on earth are here at Apple, determined to be part of something bigger than any one of us. I am humbled to step into this role, and I promise to lead with the values and vision that have come to define this special place for half a century.”
Cook will continue his role as CEO through the summer as he assists Ternus with the transition, Apple wrote.
In a statement, Cook wrote:
“It has been the greatest privilege of my life to be the CEO of Apple and to have been trusted to lead such an extraordinary company. I love Apple with all of my being, and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with a team of such ingenious, innovative, creative, and deeply caring people who have been unwavering in their dedication to enriching the lives of our customers and creating the best products and services in the world. John Ternus has the mind of an engineer, the soul of an innovator, and the heart to lead with integrity and with honor. He is a visionary whose contributions to Apple over 25 years are already too numerous to count, and he is without question the right person to lead Apple into the future. I could not be more confident in his abilities and his character, and I look forward to working closely with him on this transition and in my new role as executive chairman.”
As chairman, Cook will still be involved with certain aspects of the company, particularly with policymakers. (read more)

Well. Ms Sunshine must be busy, and I have nothing to say. Betsy, got a pic? The Mac mini is great!
Alas no…worst luck 😎
You can’t buy one though!!!!!!!!!
I need a handful with 1 or 2 at max spec.
😂😂
Pictures? Blast from the past CET.
Remember when games on these dinosaurs had everyone going?
I have that downstairs, but with two disk drives and a bunch of other peripherals. My parents bought it via mail order in June of 1981. Took six weeks to arrive… that was the longest six weeks of my life. We eventually got a color monitor for it. Initially used a TV (we didn’t get the Monitor ///… but I did get one around 2000 when I got an Apple ///).
Lots of great memories with that Apple ][+. Learned a lot too. In IT today (30+ years) and in large part due to that, but these days, not sure that that IT is still a good idea.
Learned to program Pascal on one…. now I revealed what a Dino I am….
Yup… I learned Pascal on it as well. Applesoft, Integer BASIC, and a bit of machine language.
I remember that clunker. Every time you inserted a floppy disk, the motor sounded like it was grinding it’s gears and was about to die.
I also remember the brouhaha with Franklin over their ACE 1000. I never forgave Apple for that.
New boss will do everything he can not to violate our 4th Amendment rights, right?
Hmmm.
Apple isn’t a publisher or news media outlet like Facebook or Twitter. For the most part they manufacture and sell IPhones, Ipads and laptops. What’s on the devices is up to the customer who buys it.
Good for him, work is not everything. Time for him to kick back a little and unwind. Enjoy more of life while you are still able.
Questions, always lots of questions. Most of them involve the widow.

Steve Jobs left Tim Cook the worlds leading technology innovator.
Tim Cook leaves John Ternus a phone company.
I think they are still making computers…
the apple neo is a reasonably priced very capable laptop.
too bad apple can’t restore any of its manufacturing from CCP to the USA.
one might get the impression I have deep suspicions about ANY company making a fortune on devices that are assembled/built in the CCP in what can only be considered sweat shops…with a significant number of those worker committing suicide due to the stress of trying to meet impossible deadlines…just to make a buck. it makes me sick.
not entirely Tim cook’s fault this, but even so, you would think that a man could have the decency to address a real problem and establish a business that favors us workers..in the US, for a product that is designed presumably by US workers/scientists/reasearcher/developers.
I know I might sound like a dinosaur because that ship has sailed. But it’s still a national security issue regardless anyone pretending it’s not.
Lol, go try to buy an M4 Mac Mini or Mac Studio right now and get back to me.
Isn’t that the fault of the Ai Cult and its ravenous appetite for memory chips?
Tim Cook led Apple into a service oriented business. The services that Apple provides are the big moneymakers now.
It’s not just iPhones and computers. It’s music and video. Television. Cloud services. Banking. Health. You name it. The iPhone and computers are the gateways to those services and each service has changed that sector.
“Tim Cook leaves John Ternus a phone company.”
Tim Cook leaves John Ternus a technology innovator that builds small, pocket sized, powerhouse computers that have phone capabilities too.
Exactly! I haven’t used my laptop since last year when I used TurboTax for my taxes. My IPhone is my computer now!
I couldn’t agree more.
My first Apple products were under Steve Jobs.
They were cutting edge, beautifully built, beautifully packaged, and the software was supreme.
Each year, as the annual Apple Convention approached, everyone was on their toes in excitement to hear what the new devices would be. Not any more. You can only redesign phone cameras so many times and Tim Cook’s policies of creating obsolescence in Apple products which terminates them at his will – you can’t update software anymore even though the devices work fine, is criminal.
Finally, the failure and removal of Apple products by Apple due to lousy design and production issues is down right embarrassing.
Not fair! The technology is always easier at the outset.
following grandma’s rules here.
God Bless America
Grandma Cofeve? Or your grandma? Can you review the rules pertinent here?
Tim Cook may not be everyone’s favorite person,
but to his great credit he kept a productive, WORKING, relationship with PT –
more than many of his fellow tech titans could muster,
and more adult than most of them put together.
Tim Cook “backed down” when he told us that we misunderstood AAPL wanting to scan all of our photos for child porn. No doubt the Feds were whispering in our ear. This from the man who wants to lead an extremely quiet private life.
Regardless, AAPL now scans all of our photos, does image to text conversion, location analysis, more.
We need Americans to speak more loudly about the 4th Amendment.
Does this mean there won’t be gay stuff in every Apple TV program?
I have some bad news for you.
I accidentally touched the flag. Please excuse me, twas not intentional.
To give answer to your question, I think that horse got out of the barn a long time ago.
The best series on Apple TV, Your Friends and Neighbors, has no “gay stuff”. One other mention: “Margot”s Got Money Problems”….no gay stuff.
Tim Cook created the greatest spy devices in the history of mankind.
‘Here rubes, take an Apple iphone, ipad, or computer and let us scan all your documents.’
And don’t confuse Apple’s security features on their devices. Security and privacy are two different things.
And don’t forget, Cook keeps apps he doesn’t like from the Apple app store.
The Macintosh SE, with its GRU (Graphical User Interface) took me out of the puzzling fog of command-line DOS in 1987, and made me a Mac user for life. My 2015 27″ iMac is nearing the limits of its upgradeability (Monterey, OS 12.7.6), so I’ll have to leap to a newer computer, but you can bet it’ll be a Mac. They can scan all they like; there’s nothing like a Mac.
In a perfect world, Apple would’ve gone bankrupt and Commodore would’ve become one of the world’s biggest tech companies.
Would be interesting to be able to see what would’ve come of the tech industry if Commodore didn’t completely screw up their business. Their machines were very good and the Amigas were ahead of the Mac.
Once upon a time this kind of tech-enabled social-control used to be only fiction
Yes, Tim Cook is one of the good ones. He’s been supportive of President Trump and has followed through on his promises to make more Apple products in the United States.
