That said, I would prefer to see the FISA (702) reauthorization leveraged toward passage of the SAVE America Act, at least that way we get something out of it.

He states the military needs it, and so it will renew with a sunset date in fall of 2027, for now, but at 18-months I believe he will fix it. I do not believe he will leave office allowing FISA(702) to stand in its current form to be again the way it was against him or anyone else in like manner. He’s not that lax. Not his style.

It will never be a clean SAVE Act. It is already weak. It only gets worse from here. And once a watered-down election integrity law passes, it will be used by the courts to dismiss any claims and by the Democrats in blue and swing states to cheat with impunity.

I guess the need for this revolves around the question of how many naturalized citizens and 1st generation offspring from parts of the world that breed foreign terrorist threats – are there? Obviously, Trump, Gabbard and others believe too many to allow to operate without enhanced surveillance.
If we could get more aggressive about expelling those who are here to do us harm; perhaps we could remove the justification for keeping FISA(702).
Given our conflict with Iran; I would imagine that now especially the “justification exists” to have this ability.

IIRC, FISA (plus other surveillance items) is connected to: The Patriot Act.
Solution: we make this the issue and get reps into Congress to REPEAL THE PATRIOT ACT.

I do not know what qualifications a “Judge” needs to become one re FISA. To be one, I believe that such a Judge should be subject to the rigor of the like that all Cabinet members, let alone anyone subject to the fingerprinting, background check, and g’men canvassing all of the neighbors that used to be required when a run of the mill human needs a Security Clearance. No more hiding behind a Robe.

This is a problem with Donald J. Trump. He is not a details guy. He loves being a “Dealmaker in Chief,” but he was never great with nuances and details. For him, getting a PR win on the SAVE Act now is more important than considering the mid-term and long-term implications of reauthorizing FISA (702) or, most importantly, passing a watered-down, diluted election integrity law. If a diluted version of the SAVE Act passes with no real consequences for states and sanctions for individuals entrusted with citizenship verification, it will ultimately be used by the courts and Democrats against him and conservatives whenever Democrats in blue and swing states decide to cheat, which is to say, always. In other words, he is trading a bad outcome for a potentially worse one.
I’m sorry, but it’s getting quite difficult to defend Trump who clearly seems way over his head.
