“Affordability”. That’s the word of the hour that people want to hear. I’m glad President Trump is taking it on.
The rule of thumb used to be you have to talk like you’re talking to a 12 year old. Now with the dumbed down schools it should be 6 years old. That’s the main reason Mamdani won. He said he’d make life more affordable by making everything free by taxing the rich and making them pay their fair share.
It’s insane but easy to understand.
Trust – a 2% tax “hike” on certain folks in NYC isn’t going to break wealthier peoples’ bank accounts. Most of them are happy to pay it because they won’t even feel it.
EDIT: To put into perspective – a family bringing in $100k a month – which is pretty average there – is looking at a $2k monthly bill to help people less fortunate than them.
Good, giving Christians should be excited by this.
Let’s see, a family bringing in $100,000 per month, with the standard deductions, in the state of New York, for the year 2025, will pay an approximate total of Federal and state taxes=$436,000. That’s not even including NYC taxes and fees. What’s another $24,000 a year in enforced ‘charity’.
There is ‘giving’ and there is ‘thievery’………
The Siren song of helping the poor. Somehow when government gets more money, the poor are rarely helped. Good giving Christians do a better job of helping the poor than government. Cut 40% of NYC government and funnel that to the poor.
Forced giving (taxes) is not a Christian act.
Further, it is folly to think the increased revenue will find its way to those who truly need help.
I’m sure you can reach in your pocket and pay “just a little bit more” to help the animal farm.
If raising taxes on the wealthy >should cause Christian’s to be excited, why do so many Christian churches file tax paperwork as a ‘tax exempt’ charity? … The ‘Tax Exempt’ status also allows people filing itemized deductions to deduct from income, the gifts to the churches, and pay less taxes.
