There are several summer camps currently with active search and rescue teams working through multiple areas in/around Kerr County, Texas. The area around the Guadalupe River is directly impacted.
Devastating flooding from torrential rain has hit the area hard. Officials from around the region are sending in assistance and resources to assist the local rescue teams. The rescue work is ongoing using multiple assets.
(Via ABC) – Thirteen people have died after heavy rain pounded Kerr County, Texas, early Friday, leading to “catastrophic” flooding, the sheriff said.
Children are among the dead, said Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who has taken on the duties of acting governor.
There are several major camps in the area, and at one of them, Camp Mystic, about 23 of its 750 campers are unaccounted for, according to Patrick.
“That does not mean they’ve been lost — they could be in a tree, they could be out of communication. We are praying for all of those missing to be found alive,” Patrick said at a news conference.
Camp Mystic said in a letter to parents, “If your daughter is not accounted for, you have been notified. If you have not been personally contacted, then your daughter is accounted for.” (more)

There is no early warning system in place? Our country has fallen into disrepair and it’s disheartening. I live by a river in the NE and it flooded back in the 70’s. It’s done nothing but rain this year. The river comes up in the cornfields across my road at least once a year, this year several times. Nobody warns us as it’s usually overnight. My hubby always said “the weatherman is the only person he knows who can get his job wrong 90% of the time and not get fired.” 🙏
“There is no early warning system in place? Our country has fallen into disrepair and it’s disheartening.”
NOAA/NWS were hit with DOGE cuts.
You asked for it, you got it.
Just wait until the cuts to DoD civilians bear fruit.
I believe your name says it all. The “Dorks” will blame every failure of the system on cuts. Well those warnings were not coming when there was no cuts!
Hey a$$hole, DOGE cuts didn’t cut those NOAA/ NWS services. And for the record, there were early warnings by those same agencies you have chosen to bash. I know, I live here. I’m about 2 miles from the Guadalupe river, downstream from Kerrville and on high enough ground. There are still missing girls and about 20 dead. So how ‘bout you STFU. Maybe try a prayer or two for all those people you will claim to care about. You disgust me.
Brave AI search results:
“The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has faced significant personnel and budget cuts under the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative. In late February and March 2025, well over 1,000 employees, or 10% of NOAA’s total workforce, were terminated, including key staff involved in hurricane forecasting and data collection.
These cuts have impacted NOAA’s ability to conduct accurate forecasting, particularly with the reduction of the Hurricane Hunter unit’s staff to 60% of its ideal size, potentially grounding future flights that collect critical storm data.
The DOGE cuts have also affected the National Weather Service (NWS), with hundreds of weather forecasters and other NOAA employees on probationary status being fired.
This has led to concerns about the NWS’s ability to provide 24/7 coverage, especially in rural areas, and has raised alarms among lawmakers and former NOAA officials about the potential consequences for public safety during severe weather events.”
Pointing out the negative results of the asinine cuts might help the cut proponents understand reality.
Ad hominem doesn’t help.
If you see problems from weather forecasting failures, just wait until you see the impacts from DoD civilian cuts.
Cuz the Democrats did such a great job doing the weather forecasting and saving the lives during the Potatoes fake Presidency. North Carolina ring a bell?
It’s not the money it’s the politics (democrats purposely left Trump supporters to die) and the graft.
If anyone will fix this mess the Democrats left, it’s President Trump and we conservatives who love the people this country. We fix things and don’t discriminate against people and leave them to suffer.
Praying for all involved and so glad the Republicans are back in power with President Trump leading the charge.
Well said.
Well, if those DoD civilians were doing their jobs that might be true, but plenty of them don’t.
Only the Left hopes for death so that they can score points. Spiritually dead.
No need to repeat yourself.
I guess we should get Obama back in and get back to PC talk.
its a Flash Flood. not a weather forecast.
no alert would work,
The problem with SI (the intelligence is Simulated, not Artificial) is its output is only as accurate as the source material. A listing of data sources that were aggregated would likely be quite illuminating. Most helpful would be sources presented in tree form so one could drill down to the primary.
AI = Fake (Artificial is not real) Intelligence
Relying on AI…. Figures. You cannot even think for yourself.
ever asked Google a question and that AI thing is blank… and it ask you to write in the response…
its a Wikipedia like app. not AI. a loony bird could write the response.
Believing BS liberal rags that write this stuff doesn’t help either.
Hardly a reliable source. Nice try.
There were no early warnings before the cuts. Your argument is invalid.
re: “NOAA/NWS were hit with DOGE cuts.”
There have been no changes to NWS weather radio that I have seen, and I watch these guys like a hawk.
Last year had to call them because signal strength on the Dallas NWS transmitter was over 10 dB lower … TURNED OUT they did have an issue, and it took contracting a tower crew to correct a bent antenna bracket …
PS/Full disclosure: Radio engineer here with the requisite equipment to make a ‘call’ like this.
This has been going on before DOGE was born.
Bye Dork……..
let’s see
food prices stay high because of tariffs
government services poor because of DOGE cuts
where is my small violin when I need it? LOL
Your name says it all. Perhaps you can go troll another site.
I don’t know, something about blaming under these circumstances just seems so sickening.
this is just dorky
The DOGE cuts have not had anything to do with the efficiency of any departments, including NOAA. The cuts were all about the waste and fraud and INEFFICIENCY! Every government department and agency has become so bloated that most believe it can’t work if spending cuts have been made. Man will never win when going up against the laws of nature/weather.
Has nothing to do with it…….look up weather modification/warfare. Started the program in the 70’s and promised “pinky swear” to inform Congress and get permission for further advances and use. It is being used….weather warfare….on this country. Just look at the past 10 years especially hurricanes that now form off the coast of Mexico not off Africa. Believe it or not but Florida has taken notice and now forbids chemical sprays in their skies.
I call BS on that. The DOGE cuts have been for people who didn’t do anything anyway.
Yes there were flash flood warnings issued in time. No one knew it was going to be this bad. The Guadalupe rose 26ft in 45 mins in the middle of the night in July.
There is no early warning when two weather systems collide and cause torrential rains. It happens once in a long while anywhere that the Gulf of America air collides with air coming down from the east slope of the Rocky Mountains. The Gulf air is warmer and this time of year it moves farther inland than it does most of the year. What remains of the Gulf air, when it reaches southern Colorado, produces our so-called monsoon season here in SE Colorado. We can get tremendous bursts of rain once in a long while as well. 1,500 people were killed in a similar flood on the Arkansas River in Pueblo a little over 100 years ago.
Just heard that there was early warning but by cell phone. At sorts of 2 AM in a kids camp on top od a moutain? Considering the magnitude of what happened and the speed, a warning could not have allowed enough time in this terrain. 15 children confirmed dead now. Waiting for IDs on the latest 5. The horror for the children (ages in the part of Christian girls’ Camp Mystic 8-10) and for the parents is unimaginable.
Correction. 9 + 5 = 14
How frightening!
Hill Country – believe that’s called the Texas Hill Country … (as opposed ‘high country’). Just sayin … The High Plains are out toward Amarillo …
It is time to research what scientist are doing with the clouds. I firmly believe that our weather is not normal and I often read about the planting of crystals in the clouds to help produce rain. WAKE UP AMERICA!
I don’t know if there is anything nefarious going on but we sure need some agency to investigate. I have always heard that Bill Gates may be behind the tampering with weather patterns to support his notion of “climate change.”
Chem trails are real, been going on for years!
Correlating Chem trails to this is crazy talk.
With all due respect, I believe you are incorrect. Chem trails are part of the plan to poison and destroy us. Weather disasters are, as well. Look up HAARP.
Agree!!! For years here in western Colorado the skies were a plaid mass of chemtrails, every day. This year is very different – clear beautiful skies – and I believe it is because when President Trump and his administration took office, they cleaned this BS up a lot!
There is definitely something going on! Our weather on the NC coast is haphazard at best. Always those white lines in the sky. We have a Dem governor, don’t know if that has anything to do with it or if it is a national thing. We generally get most of our rain from tropical storms. In the past, I was never worried about tropical storms — just happy for the rain. It seems now something is happening to make storms dangerous at the last moment. I believe that is happening elsewhere as well. They are doing something, I just don’t know who is doing it or why except to cause fear and devastation. That seems to be the other side’s way of dealing with everyday Americans who just want to be left alone to work and play and celebrate our country.
Dave Wigington of Geoengineeringwatch.org has been following this weather manipulation “phenomenon” for years now. Check out his website, along with the many available supporting videos. Interesting, and alarming info, for sure. https://www.geoengineeringwatch.org/ads-resources/dane-wigington/
I live in the North TX area, Collin County near Dallas, and for the past 2-years there has been a significant and noticeable change in the RELATIVE HUMIDITY reported in the weather … UP from a 30-40% Average from 3 years ago to an Average over 60% this calendar year … even on “clear days”.
One can actually smell what ever is being sprayed into the atmosphere.
We’ve had a lot of rain recently, the smell is awful, along with abnormal humidity.. (They) have been flying hot and heavy the last few weeks over NW Texas. Grid after grid where it just looks like paint dripping. And they are not contrails which dissipate almost immediately.
Are we still feeling the effects of the Tonga volcano eruption in 2022? The volcano, located on the Pacific Ocean floor, increased the global atmospheric water vapor by 10%.
Tragic, I went to college at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, TX. Our baseball trips to go tubing on the Guadalupe were memories of a lifetime, I cannot IMAGINE what I am seeing….Prayers to those families! Circa 1987
River flooding and firefighter murders. Warning language, Bill Burr on News
If you can’t fix it why share it?
Our NOAA weather radio never stops, even when the sun is out, on the chance we may have a pop-up evening rain. So cool it on the lack of funds.
We have friends whose children are there. One’s granddaughter floated out on a mattress. This is personal and tragic.
“Incredible videos of Texas flood. The height it reached in minutes…”
4 videos….

Great example of how quickly rivers and creeks can rise in these intense Texas floods.
1978 was Hurricane/Tropical Storm Amelia. It stalled over the Hill Country area. Official rainfall totals were 45 inches in 24 hours. Unofficial bucket survey by John Patton (NWS-New Braunfels) recorded 52 inches of rain in 24 hours.
Massive flooding and loss of life occurred, especially in the Bandera area.
The storm moved on up northwest and stalled again just north of Abilene near Albany. Dumped another 28 inches in 12 hours (NWS).
As many as 25 people lost their lives during the storm event.
My point in mentioning this one historic event is to point out that Texas has experienced the most extreme rainfall events in the US.
Although they don’t occur frequently, they do occur.
FEMA and the State of Texas regulate the 100-year floodplain. I frequently recommend that people stay out of the 500-year floodplain.
But even then, flooding in Texas can exceed the 500-year frequency event.
Stay safe. “Turn around. Don’t drown.”

“Whatever we need, we can have.”
Trump also committed to providing anything Texas needed, including Blackhawk helicopters and military equipment for search and rescue operations, which were deployed within an hour of the request.

That’s our magnificent President Trump – coming to the rescue immediately and BIGLY! (Biden would still be asleep…_)
“Did Budget Cuts Contribute to disaster?
• Potential Indirect Impact:
• The NWS layoffs could have strained forecasting resources, potentially affecting the accuracy or timeliness of predictions. Experts warned that reduced staffing might lead to less precise forecasts, which aligns with the underestimation of rainfall in Kerr County.
• However, no direct evidence confirms that the specific warnings for the July 4 flood were delayed or inaccurate due to these cuts. The NWS did issue multiple warnings, but their effectiveness was limited by the event’s unprecedented speed and the lack of local infrastructure to disseminate them.
• Local Factors More Significant:
• The absence of a county-wide alert system in Kerr County was a critical failure, as acknowledged by Judge Kelly. Even with NWS warnings, the lack of a mechanism to relay these to residents and camps like Mystic exacerbated the tragedy.
• The extreme nature of the flood—a 1-in-100-year event with rainfall far exceeding forecasts—overwhelmed existing systems, regardless of staffing levels. The rapid rise of the Guadalupe River (22–26 feet in under an hour) left little time for response, even with perfect forecasts.
• Social media posts indicate that a phone alert was sent at 4:30 a.m., but this was likely too late for effective evacuation, especially at a camp with limited communication.”
Praying for many miracles for the TX. community. 🙏💖🙏
And it’s Texas Hill Country, not High Country.
We have lived about 25 miles South of Kerrville since 2017 when I was forced into early retirement. Since then I have spent most of my day working on or around the house. Out of sheer boredom I began listening to Non-Fiction audiobooks shortly thereafter (for those living in Rio Linda, California, that means audiobooks that are about; Real people and Real events).
A few of the audiobooks dealt with the history of South Central Texas in the early 1800s up to the late 1800s. The local Indians had told the White settlers for more than 100 years that this area is prone to flash flooding.
I have said all of that to say that I am absolutely amazed that, with all of the taxes that we in this area pay (last time I researched the matter, Bandera County was the 58th highest Property Tax county in America, not just Texas, but America!)(my property taxes are around $4,300.00 per year) there is Still No Warning System in place for Flash Floods when there are heavy rains up North for places like; Kerrville, Center Point, Medina, Bandera, Tarpley, Utopia, Pipe Creek, Lakehills, and other cities, towns, and communities!
Nothing will change until the citizens wake up and realize that government employees are nothing but the unemployables of society and that every municipality could easily operate with 50% to 25% of their current work force.
Fix the title of this posting, Sundance. The flooding happened in the Texas Hill Country, not the Texas High Country. There is no High Country in Texas aside from a few small areas north of the Big Bend in the Rio Grande.
Llano Estacada would be the high country wouldn’t it?
It is a huge flat land that covers most of West Texas and some of far eastern New Mexico. It sits on a caprock layer called the Llano Estacado, which has weathered and eroded on the edges for millions of years. Hence, Palo Duro Canyon and many other escarpments are located there. Kerrville sits below the the large Edwards Plateau, which is west of Kerrville and is climb of about 1000 ft in elevation. Think of West Texas as flat lands which are stair stepped
upwards onto big plateaus heading west.
The average elevation of the Llano Estacado is a little over 3,500 ft, but not high country in this part of the USA. The highest mountain in Texas is just over 9000 ft and is located above the Chihuahuan Desert just a few miles south of Eastern New Mexico. There are many mountain ranges above 10,000 feet in New Mexico, Colorado, and northern Arizona, So the Llano Estacado is not high country out here. The very hilly eroded area to the east of the Llano Estacado is the Hill Country and it is roughly at an average of 800-1500 ft elevation. So the escarpments to the west are large and heavy rainfall on them will often flood the low areas of the Hill Country very rapidly. The volume of rain in this part of the world depends on the location of the thunderstorms created by the collision of dry air masses to the west and very warm and humid air masses coming from the Gulf of America. These storms are very localized and fast moving at this time of year. They can dump anywhere from very little to over ten feet of rain and the actual amount is not not predictable with any accuracy until the rain is already falling at it’s hardest. So, tremendous rains are very common and extended droughts are just as frequent on the Llano Estacado.
Thanks for correcting the name of the Kerrville area, Sundance.
