Wait,… wha? Prices were supposed to skyrocket, so said the experts, pundits, Wall Street analysts and all the ‘talking heads.’ Alas, the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) releases the April consumer price index [SEE HERE] and, shocker, prices on the critical consumer goods that matter most are dropping.
The rate of inflation dropped to a four-year low in April. Overall consumer prices increased 2.3% from a year earlier, down from 2.4% rise in March. However, inside the number’s things get better. Prices for groceries, food at home including eggs, used cars and gasoline all fell.
Meats, poultry and eggs dropped 1.6% overall. The price of eggs dropped 12.7% for the month. [SEE TABLE 2] Fuel Oil dropped 2.6%, propane dropped 4.7%. If it’s a food product grown and harvested in America, the price dropped. Remember that popular boycott by the Canadians on Orange Juice and citrus from Florida? Oranges dropped 3.7% in price for American consumers; Citrus overall -2.8%.
The items that are critical to a middle-class or working-class family, all dropped in price. This is exactly the same pricing outcome we experienced in 2017 that continued for two years. Energy prices drive farm prices and the total food supply chain; the energy prices have dropped substantially since President Trump took office.
Keep an eye on the “Relative Importance Index” [first column table, 2], because this is where the BLS statisticians will start to play with the data in order to stop President Trump from getting credit for lower prices. The BLS manipulating this index point is why CTH stopped using their data reports in 2022. Many people were perplexed at the end of 2021 when suddenly the inflation data no longer made sense. The BLS changed the priority weighting in order to assist Biden.
Like that 400 gajillion jobs Joe’s administration never made and of the existing by and large didn’t go to people born in the U.S.
I think we all need to roll up our sleeves over the next few years.

There are millions of young men sitting on their growing rear ends in their parents’ basements. My nephew has four in their 20s in his home. Now one has his girlfriend and their child there as well. All the while their father scrapes by working in Walmart. These parents are the real problem. They need to give the kids 30 days and then to change the locks.

Eggs were still $3.93/dozen at Aldi in southern NH this weekend.
They HAD been around $5 a dozen 2 months ago, but they should be lower.

In general, I think there’s a lot of profit-taking going on w/ food prices now.
The reason eggs are resisting the drop in prices is the complication arising from the continuing slaughter of tens of thousands of chickens (I think that figure is correct/close) due to the bird flu. If not for that, the egg prices would be dropping. Here in Los Gatos, California the price per dozen is similar to what I’m seeing in the other posts re this subject.
Yet the price of eggs at Costco has gradually come down. Not enough yet, but down more than $2.00 for two dozen since inauguration day.

I just bought gasoline at 2.56. this is the first time I have bought gas this cheap in over 2 years.
food prices? I’m not seeing ANY price drops. Eggs remain high…milk remains high. stables remain high.
and yes, I shop at over a dozen different stores in 4 states in a single month. (I move quite a bit…always have).
I am not just skeptical of these “numbers” and reports. I am saying emphatically, this is not the experience of my buying…and I’m a cheap skate. I am always buying as a cheap as possible.
also noting: prices have not actually dropped that much from temu either….It remains the best direct from manufacture online shopping experience. I can still buy the same exact items from temu that Walmart and amazon “rebrands” anywhere from 10 percent cheaper, up to 80 percent discounted. I just have to wait a little longer from delivery. But in the 4 years buying from temu, I have yet to have a single item fail to deliver, or to meet the advertised expectation.
I am a very very picky cheap skate for a LOT of things that I buy.

Slowing inflation is also not the same as deflation. Undoing the damage of the “weekend at Biden’s” admin takes time. I just posted above about shoes selling for $79 on facebook are selling for $10 at Temu and they are the same thing. Who ever is selling them on FB is buying them from China.
The lower prices haven’t really kicked in yet here in Florida.

I have been using Temu for a couple of years for craft items I need. Just today got my first thing that didn’t work …. a pair of ‘electric’ scissors wouldn’t charge. I contacted Temu right away and they offered me keep the item and get 50% refund or get whole refund and I think still keep the item. I’d better pull it out of the trash until I find out. There are shoes called ‘Hike’ I think on Facebook that are on sale for $79 or later buy one, get one free. I bought four pair of them from Temu some time ago all for less than $10 a pair. I see sewing items I have purchased over the years from JoAnn or Hobby Lobby or Michaels on Temu for so much less than what I was paying for them. I know these companies would get the things in from China and re-bag with their logo. The only thing I have seen price increase on is women’s tops, about a 50% mark up.

bear in mind, these are states that are historically some of the lowest food and gas/energy prices in the entire country. You would expect to see any drops in prices to happen here first and last. That is not the case.
this also applies to food prices…the deep south has also historically been a very low cost food price segment. Likewise, my receipts who that food prices have not dropped…or very little .
I will point out that the source of this information that Sundance posted is from CNBC. That isn’t the kind of source I would trust. And that adds another factor why I decided to inform based on my own expenditures.

Food prices are still pretty damn high.
I watch the foody channels on Youtube, and prices are going down, and stores are having massive sales. Coffee and Chocolate seem to be going up along with sugar, but there are explanations for that.
Gas hasn’t gone down much in Eastern Washington, Tri-Cities area, mainly because of the enormous amount of gas tax in Washington. Eggs went from 2.89 last summer up to a high of 6.99 before Trump’s inauguration. They have finally starting going down, and last week, when I went shopping, they were down to 4.99.

I used to submit monthly job reporting to BLS. I stopped in 2021 when I realized what b.s. they were pulling with the job statistic reporting. Another useless fed bureaucracy. We get hounded for these survey’s every year from BLS. It’s a census group. They love to say that it’s mandatory to complete their surveys. When I was green in my job I actually completed the surveys. And there were a lot of them. Ex. one survey had to be completed for each of our locations. Take that times I think it was around 7 or 8 different census type surveys. We are a small business, however, since we’re temp staffing we are treated as a large business.
These census people have so much time that they actually call multiple times to follow up on completing the surveys. Then there’s the multiple times they mail the surveys. It’s been years since I responded. When they call I tell them I’m not going to complete the survey. They usually get all huffy and some will say…..”we’ll see about that”. Nothing ever happens.
BLS is so full of themselves with self importance. Useless fed workers.

I think people in the BLS need to be fired and removed so we get more fairer data from them. These leeches that are in line with the globalists and dems are all infested in our government. They need to be rooted out and removed.

I’m finding that liberals are responding to this good news with angry denials. They desperately want President Trump to lose more than they want the United States to win.
I am not changing the subject, but am submitting anecdotal information that supports the propensity of the Government to support the political left (communists) in their efforts to destroy the democracies of the western nations.
I live in an area that receives very little annual rainfall and regularly has large temperature changes over the course of 24 hours. Wind storms are also very common. Obviously it is a low humidity arid climate in the upper Chihuahuan Desert. Living here, I have become a weather watching fanatic. The US government weather monitors are using statistical variances to support the ridiculous Climate Change theory. They overestimate the average temperatures with monthly map data and they underestimate our rainfall amounts with the same mapping software. See the website forecast.weather.gov to view the monthly and seasonal weather map data they produce. I watch the daily statistics get manipulated in a variety of ways in order to produce these maps and all other weather reporting data they do. I am sure that they keep track of the actual numbers, but they never allow that data to be seen by the voting public.
This year has so far been slightly cooler and significantly rainier than our normal averages, so far. But, due to NOAA’s constant fiddling with the actual data, my area is now shown to have produced a couple of inches less precipitation than what we have experienced on the averages of about a half dozen home sites across the 10 square miles nearest my home. We are officially showing about 3 inches of precipitation so far while I have measured over 5 inches at my own house. A two inch deficit is significant in an area with an average annual precipitation of less than 13 inches. The same is true of the temperature statistics rounded in the opposite direction by NOAA.
They say our average daily temperature is about the same as our normal average so far, but they are rounding the results upward by from zero to one degree every day in order to support the Climate Change agenda, and have been doing this for at least the last 20 years. The net result more than explains the official temperature change of about 2 full degrees that they are reporting to have occurred over the last 25 years. I submit that there has not been that much change around here. In fact, I am measuring fewer 100 degree+ days every year than I was seeing 20 years ago.
The upshot is that no official US Government data coming from anywhere among our massive number of Bureaucracies can be trusted to be what it indicates. We have a much more extensive problem than the stupid way the Government is manipulating the economic indicators every month!
We better believe that the Communists are literally screwing up everything they can to cause confusion, including our economic indicators. They believe that they are in the latter stages of their effort to eliminate Democracies and Republics from the entire world and they cannot quit on the revolution they have been advancing if they are to survive. We better know that “woke” people are their proverbial “useless idiots”. The battle is on and President Trump is, quite frankly, our only hope to keep our Constitutional Republic.
