The Trump administration questioned the evidence supporting gender-affirming health care for youth in a lengthy review published Thursday by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that could further upend the nation’s transgender care landscape.
The roughly 400-page, unsigned review states there is a “lack of robust evidence” supporting interventions such as puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgeries to treat gender dysphoria in minors. It advocates for a greater reliance on psychotherapy to treat the condition, which is characterized by severe psychological distress that stems from a mismatch between a person’s gender identity and sex at birth.
The document contradicts guidance from major medical organizations including the World Professional Association for Transgender Health and the American Medical Association, which opposes statewide bans on gender-affirming care for youth. Neither group immediately returned a request for comment on the report.
“Our duty is to protect our nation’s children — not expose them to unproven and irreversible medical interventions,” National Institutes of Health Director Jay Bhattacharya said in a news release accompanying Thursday’s report.

Does this mean that if we’re married and we don’t want to become demented, we should immediately get a divorce? Yes.
NO! I mean, no. Of course not. It means that we should try to understand what it is about marriage that might cause a person’s mental capacity to decline.
I personally have been married for over 600 years, so I feel qualified to weigh in on this. My theory is that after you’ve been married for a while, you outsource certain tasks from your brain to your spouse’s brain, and the part of your brain that used to perform those tasks develops what brain scientists refer to as “brain rust.”
For example, let’s say Michelle and I want to watch a certain TV show that we’ve heard is good. First we have to figure out where it is. In the olden days, of course, we’d know exactly where it was: It was on television. But now it could be virtually anywhere — Netflix, Hulu, Apple, Tubi, Fubo, Max, Peacock, Feeboo, Skeeter, Emu, Fafo, Bazooty, Skeeter Prime or any of the dozens of other streaming services that we may or may not be paying for — there is no way to tell — and almost certainly do not remember the login name or password for.
Once we’ve figured out where the show is — this can take several days — I go to The Basket. This is a basket on our coffee table that, from the outside, appears rustic and harmless.
But lurking inside The Basket is our scarily large collection of remote controls, some of them dating back to the Spanish-American War.
It’s my job to determine which remote controls we need — it can take more than one — and manipulate them in such a way that we are able to watch the show. Michelle never does this. At this point I don’t think she could do it. A couple of times I’ve tried to explain my procedure to her. (“OK, you see this button here? Do NOT press it.”) But it’s hopeless. The part of her brain that in an unmarried human would handle remote controls is rusted solid from lack of use.
Another aspect of our lives that I’m responsible for is plumbing. When one of our toilets goes awry, it is my job, and mine alone, to point out that “Toilets Gone Awry” would be a good name for a rock band. But it’s also my job to repair the toilet. And by “repair the toilet,” I of course mean “call the plumber.”
Michelle almost never talks to the plumber. The plumbing sector of her brain is now a nonfunctional rust glob. Whereas I talk to the plumber a lot, especially lately, because we’re installing a new septic system. This is something that, like many couples, we’ve always dreamed of doing, and we finally decided, what the heck, we’re not going to live forever, let’s just DO it. As the plumbing specialist in our marriage, I am deeply involved in this project, not in the sense of doing any of the actual work, but in the sense of taking pride in our new septic tank, which is larger than many New York City apartments.” …….

I think they test them against old versions of the same vaccine or against the adjuvant (the agent that helps deliver the vaccine) rather than against a placebo. They get better results to compare with respect to side effects that way. The HPV vacccine was tested against the adjuvant, and something like 2.2% of the “control” and 2.2% of the experimental group got immune system disorders. But because the two groups were the same, they were able to say, truthfully but misleadingly, that the risk of immune system disorders was no greater in the group using the vaccine than it was in the control group. Shouldn’t have been approved, and I doubt many people would take it if they knew those results.
How in the hell is this RFK’s fault? He is looking into crap that has been standard for years and it ain’t good.

DOGE refers dozens of voter fraud cases to DOJ
Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has referred dozens of alleged cases of voter fraud to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for prosecution, one of his staff said Wednesday.
Antonio Gracias, a longtime Musk ally who is working for DOGE in the Social Security Administration, said the cost-cutting panel had identified 57 immigrants living in the country illegally who had registered to vote.
“We’ve referred many prosecutions to the DOJ, and they’re working on them now,” he said at a briefing with Musk and a small group of reporters,
“They take a long time to prepare, because you have to go to the states and get information and be 100 percent sure you’re correct. And the problem is it’s very laborious because, as I pointed out, it’s several different databases. You have to actually hand-sample the databases trying to find the stuff. Maroš Šefčovič, the European Union’s trade commissioner, said in an interview with the Financial Times Thursday that the bloc is making “certain progress” toward a trade deal with the United States, which would involve buying €50 billion more of US products.
This deal would address the “problem” in the two superpowers’ trade relationship, he said.
But Financial Times reported that Šefčovič suggested the Trump administration would need to abandon its 10% across-the-board tariffs on European goods as a precursor to any trade arrangement.
Last month, President Donald Trump put in place 10% universal tariffs on virtually all goods coming into the United States and enacted – then delayed – even more aggressive “reciprocal” tariffs of up to 50% on certain countries. The 10% tariff on all trading partners, including the European Union, remain in place.
Šefčovič told the Financial Times he spoke with US trade representative Jamieson Greer and commerce secretary Howard Lutnick on closing the United States’ trade deficit with Europe by buying more liquefied natural gas (LNG) and agriculture.
“If what we are looking at as a problem in the deficit is €50 billion, I believe that we can really . . . solve this problem very quickly through LNG purchases, through some agricultural products like soyabeans, or other areas,” Sefcovic said to FT.
Trade between the EU and United States has been fraught since the Trump administration briefly placed a 20% reciprocal tariff on all goods from the bloc on April 2, which Trump refers to as “Liberation Day.” Shortly after, he paused those tariffs for 90 days.
The EU then announced its own 90-day pause on countermeasures against the United States. “We want to give negotiations a chance,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at the time.

The emergency application seeks to lift a San Francisco-based federal district judge’s ruling that halted the administration’s plans as a legal challenge proceeds, with that decision finding the abrupt policy change “smacks of racism.”
“Its order upsets the judgments of the political branches, prohibiting the Executive Branch from enforcing a time-sensitive immigration policy and indefinitely extending an immigration status that Congress intended to be ‘temporary,’” Solicitor General D. John Sauer wrote in the application.
Known as Temporary Protected Status (TPS), the program protects from deportation those already in the country who cannot return to their home due to unrest or dangerous conditions.

Alleged Tesla Arsonist Freed From Jail To Continue Sex Change ‘Care’
A Massachusetts college student charged with setting Tesla vehicles and chargers on fire in Missouri has been freed from custody in part to proceed with sex change procedures she began on the month of the alleged attacks.
A federal judge ordered 19-year-old Owen McIntire into home detention at her parents’ house, which she can leave for reasons including medical and “mental health treatment,” after her attorney filed a motion arguing why she should be freed from jail. The document reveals that McIntire is another of several transgender-identifying people charged with anti-Tesla attacks since Tesla CEO Elon Musk joined the Trump administration.
“Medically, Owen faces serious and ongoing needs,” McIntire’s attorney wrote to a Massachusetts court on April 23. “He takes daily medications for depression and ADHD and has consistently demonstrated insight into his diagnoses and compliance with his treatment. He also receives gender-affirming medical care, which began in March of this year and is likely to be interrupted or terminated entirely if he remains in pretrial detention.”
The filing says McIntire has “deep ties to [the] community” in Boston and describes her as an active student throughout her childhood, taking ballet from age 8 to 15 before apparently realizing she wanted to be transgender sometime later. She remains “medically and psychologically vulnerable” and should therefore be released, the attorney’s motion said.
