Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Thanks, W_P!
Hey.
I’ll second that!
This brought back a memory from Sunday School many years ago. We sang the song “Naaman was a Leper” In the song he dipped 7 times and came out clean. It was an old Salvation Army song. Thank you for this lesson, it means a lot more now than it did as a child. We loved the song but didn’t know the real reason for it. This is a great lesson.
Bless you. I look forward to your daily Bible lessons.
Thanks Marti, glad to know you’re here reading them.
Enjoyed your story.

Here’s one more “Moonlight in Vermont” to add to Garrisons’ fr/ last nite. Such a great song, so many great versions.

One more . . .
I was looking for an additional . . . one more . . . JD Souther song to post tonight when I remembered this song. I’d heard it about 20 years ago and just filed it away as something worthwhile to listen to whenever . . . JD Souther has an an ability to craft soulful songs and this is certainly one. Interestingly, he recognized it as a “good” song, one that he was proud that he wrote, but it wasn’t one he made a lot of money from and, honestly, it was a song that could be filed away in his catalogue.
But, listening to it again tonight, it connected with me in an poignantly important way. If you are a caregiver for a loved one, if you are in it for the long haul—“I’ll Take Care Of You” means something very special.
It means something very special to me tonight as I write this. She’s resting comfortably. I just checked in on her to make sure. This allowed me a little time to search for music to post tonight.
As I’ve said, this is something I genuinely enjoy doing. But, that said, caregiving always comes first and sometimes it gets in the way of other things I enjoy doing. When you are a caregiver what you look for . . . what you hope for is stability. It’s not about getting better. It’s about staying the same or, sadly, getting worse. Tonight it’s about staying the same. Enjoy Treeper friends. And be well. 🙂
Garrison, you and your loved one are in my prayers.
Will have to listen tomorrow since I am sitting tonight in the ER with my stepdad. His sugar spiked but we found out that his kidney values have gotten much worse.
Garrison and Grandpa M ,
God Bless You Both 🙏
Two Angels 😇
🙂
🙂
Your stepdad couldn’t wish to have a better man beside him than my pop.
Thanks son!
Good morning, M💓 You’re made of the same stuff as your pop. I hope you realize it. LBT
Bet, those genes are a talking. 😜
Good and great genes in my view🤗
😁
💓
Grandpa, thinking of you tonight with hopes and prayers for your stepdad. Please keep me updated if you are so inclined. ❤️
Morning Cat, stepdad’s kidneys are really bad, has congestive heart failure, and the diabetes. He’s been dealing with these for a while. Had to transfer him to San Antonio. He rode in an ambulance, Mom and I went back to the ranch to gather a few things and went to the hospital. Mom stayed there while I got to my old man cave and am fixing to have a few hours nap. Then I’ll bring my Mom for her to catch some sleep and I’ll babysit.
Thank you for the prayers, I am worried about the old boy. ❤️
Make sure you two eat something. It’s as important as sleep. ❤️
If it helps, I would shoulder most of the worry for you. Big hug grandpa 🤗 and prayers, lots of them! 🙏
A hug back at you and I can feel those prayers! And we sure need them. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
Dear Brother, You, like many of us here, are not people to shrink away, but stand up and do whatever needs to be done, especially in times of trouble. We look for who needs the most help and give it. We shove our own fears and anxiety into the background.
The time will come when you can lay that burden down and crawl into the arms of God for solace. In the meantime, never doubt that he is there with you, strengthening you and guiding you. ❤️ Sis
Yes, sis,we do what we need to do and got is right there with us.
That will be a glorious day, when we stand face to face with Jesus! ❤️
I was talking a little more immediately…as in this life. God’s comfort and solace isn’t reserved for the next life. Any time, we can choose to lay the burden down and crawl into the lap of God and be renewed and comforted and loved.
Amen
Absolutely Leenie, I give Him my burdens daily. Don’t know what I’d do if I didn’t have Jesus.
So beautiful, Leenie💓
Thank you for the update. Praying for all the family, this is stressful on all of you.
🙂
Grace to you and yours brother. 🙏
Much appreciated, bro.
I’m so sorry to awake to this worrying news, G. I’ll be praying for him that God will provide capable, and most important, truly compassionate hands for his comfort and healing. I’m so glad you are with your mother for loving support. Far away all of us physically are, but our hearts are with each one of you.🙏B
Good morning, Betsy. Got a 3.5 hours nap. Heading back to the hospital soon to get my Mom so she can get some sleep and I’ll be babysitting. It’s been interesting, to say the least when you throw in the mild dementia that stepdad has.
He got transferred to San Antonio in an ambulance and by the time we got there (having had to make a stop to get some things) the nurses were already calling me for help. They had already arranged for an exemption to the hospital policy of one visitor only and when we walked out of the elevator we got a standing ovation.
I’ll be checking in here as I can.
Blessings to all! ❤️🙏🏻
Your stepdad has the best with you in his corner. And not only you…
It sounds as if there is some humanity in that hospital, a disgracefully rare thing these days. You’re truly in my thoughts today, as are your mom and stepdad, and as are those caring for him who I pray are rediscovering what it means to have a “calling”.
Blessings to all, G🙏
Thank you Betsy! I’m so thankful that we have a place in San Antonio. Mom is there now sleeping and I am back at the hospital. Most of the people that I have encountered in that particular hospital system are very kind, dedicated and has d working folks.
Oh that is good, G! What a relief for you all to have an SA bolthole.
Prayers. 🙂
🙂
Grandpa M, will keep your stepdad in my prayers too. Hope they can get his kidney problems straitened out. God Bless You.
TY, Marti!
Garrison, glad you found and highlighted it tonight. Strange isn’t it, regular people look for new life occurrences and some people would give it all away for some normalcy and when you get a glimpse of it, it’s like you spotted a rainbow. To me, this feels like a warm hug of understanding. Thank you. Big hug back at ya 💋
Good morning, Cat💓 You mirror my thinking here. Normalcy, or routine, which some consider dull, is a very valuable commodity. It becomes more valuable still as we grow older. Thank goodness for those times when we have it, moment by moment.
🙂
I can tell it’s a duty of delight for you to care for your wife.
You’re both blessed. ✝️
🙂
🙂
Amen! 🙏🏻
((((((((💖))))))))
🙂
Garrison, you can’t honour your wife or the tremendous love you have for her in any deeper way than caring for her when, as now, she needs you most. God please keep you both in his loving embrace. And as with GrandpaM, I hope you and she can feel His presence with you now and always. 🙏B
🙂
Dear Garrison,
I pray you have “real” people with you on this journey with your bride. (NOT that “we”
are not real people, but you know what I mean…)❤️
Oh, and 💔.
“..In sickness and in health…”
Those words in our wedding vows are not lightly spoken.
They inevitably impact us all.
My betrothed and I are approaching our 50th anniversary later this year.
Those words in our vows have been tested several times….. Like you, we honor them and endure..
God Bless both you and your loved one.
PS – great music. JD Souther is classic.
Garrison, it is not easy being the caregiver for a loved one. Will keep you and your loved one in my prayers. God bless you for your caring devotion to this wonderful lady.

Sunny, I had forgotten this one. Couldn’t help smiling when his voice started 😎
The words are so great!
You can picture every scene.
Oh Yes. But Wow, you really reached down into the back of the ’60s closet for this one!
Used to play this one a lot on WEBB, a Baltimore City soul music AM radio station…..

Goodaye Feral,
I did see and listen to your Dylan post, the first time I heard this was on the “Easy Rider” album , Roger Mignn,I beleive, always loved the song.
Something you might not know:
Previous to John Lennon being assassinated by CIA MK-Ultra graduate Chapman, Lennon was planning to come out of musical retirement, jamming with Dylan the two were intent on making a comeback together.
After the CIA “hit” Dylan become a recluse, I would say paranoid as he spent millions on security, unprecedented for that time.
The “Fugs” song “CIA man” I mentioned previously is on a recording called “Virgin Figs” my brother hound had ‘scored’ this LP from a import record store ( the only one in Aussie) , always being anti government radical this song made sense to both of us.
When Lennon was ‘hit’ we both instantly knew who orchestrated any why.
You know my age, this is how long I’ve known.
It’s strange for me in the respect of sitting back and watching people learn a truth that I first encounted forty years ago.
My research since that time is immensely complicated as is the subject matter.
Add my life experiences as to why why I post you mob here and then you know why .
Long stretch lye down, cross paws heaven howl.
Hi mungrel 🙋♀️ I didn’t know the Dylan/Lennon angle. That would have been an awesome du 😢
Strange, I thought your age was 7 or 8 in dog years, must be that attitude thingy 😜 As far as your knowledge of all things, I think of you as a very wise man and I get the feeling many would agree. Your spoken name seems to bring an atmosphere of silent respect and awe when spoken. Not that I was surprised, you having 27 pedigrees and all. 😛 you’ve been so nice to this grungy old cat, I’ll tell you a secret 🤫 but you need to go down to that beach you spoke of recently and howl at the moon on that specific first day of this year to know what it is 😘 long stretch, twitch tail, cat strut twice, looking back at mungrel, mew.
Mungrel meow like getting marrow out of bone with no paw play 😝 !
Mungrel have bad master as pup 😞 ,allways nip,at heels but little biters turn chomping bad after first master kill 😒 !
Grandknackers mungrel had the most pedigrees and taught mungrel well 😊 , my 27 to he’s 42 don’t make mungrel top dog 😛.
He always said wisdom don’t come with one sniffed run😂 !
Know stair bridge 😍 will cover Feral tracks till the end 😘 !

Will I Bring Myself Up to This Level?
…perfecting holiness in the fear of God. —2 Corinthians 7:1
“Therefore, having these promises….” I claim God’s promises for my life and look to their fulfillment, and rightly so, but that shows only the human perspective on them. God’s perspective is that through His promises I will come to recognize His claim of ownership on me. For example, do I realize that my “body is the temple of the Holy Spirit,” or am I condoning some habit in my body which clearly could not withstand the light of God on it? (1 Corinthians 6:19). God formed His Son in me through sanctification, setting me apart from sin and making me holy in His sight (see Galatians 4:19). But I must begin to transform my natural life into spiritual life by obedience to Him. God instructs us even in the smallest details of life. And when He brings you conviction of sin, do not “confer with flesh and blood,” but cleanse yourself from it at once (Galatians 1:16). Keep yourself cleansed in your daily walk.
I must cleanse myself from all filthiness in my flesh and my spirit until both are in harmony with the nature of God. Is the mind of my spirit in perfect agreement with the life of the Son of God in me, or am I mentally rebellious and defiant? Am I allowing the mind of Christ to be formed in me? (see Philippians 2:5). Christ never spoke of His right to Himself, but always maintained an inner vigilance to submit His spirit continually to His Father. I also have the responsibility to keep my spirit in agreement with His Spirit. And when I do, Jesus gradually lifts me up to the level where He lived— a level of perfect submission to His Father’s will— where I pay no attention to anything else. Am I perfecting this kind of holiness in the fear of God? Is God having His way with me, and are people beginning to see God in my life more and more?
Be serious in your commitment to God and gladly leave everything else alone. Literally put God first in your life.
WISDOM FROM OSWALD CHAMBERS
Sincerity means that the appearance and the reality are exactly the same
The largest volcanic eruption recorded.
Tambora started April 5, 1915, but the big explosion occurred April 10th.
.webp?itok=PXp6LD55
Contemporary accounts of sailors from that time claimed that their eardrums were burst even though they were over 50 miles away from the volcano. The following year was known as the year without a summer. It snowed in July in New England.
That eruption is credited with extending what is known as the Little Ice Age (LIA). A period of colder and stormier than average temperatures that lasted from about 1300 to 1850.
Now according to a new extensive study of ancient ice cores in Greenland and Antarctica it is being claimed that over the last 60,000 years there have been 69 eruptions larger than the 1815 Tambora eruption.
Ancient Ice Reveals Scores of Gigantic Volcanic Eruptions – Watts Up With That?
Eighty-five of the volcanic eruptions identified by the researchers were large global eruptions. Sixty-nine of these are estimated to be larger than the 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia – the largest volcanic eruption in recorded human history. So much sulfuric acid was ejected into the stratosphere by the Tambora eruption that it blocked sunlight and caused global cooling in the years that followed. The eruption also caused tsunamis, drought, famine and at least 80,000 deaths.
How can large volcanic eruptions effect the global weather? Based on my understanding two conditions must be met.
Volcanoes not located in or near the tropics can still effect the weather but their effects are felt only in the hemisphere where they lie. Of course, as with any rule there are exceptions. Super volcanoes, such as the caldera now located at Yellowstone and massive flood basalt events such as the Siberian Traps can emit so much over such an extended period of time that the effects are felt globally. Many believe that the Siberian Traps caused one of the great mass extinction events.
Any event like these massive eruptions would make the largest volcanic eruption event of our lifetimes, the Pinatubo eruption of 1991, seem like very small potatoes, even though that eruption did effect global weather for a couple of years.
Thanks for a great read. 🤟
Good morning, Frank💓. Wind warnings here, 2nd day, stark reminder March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Desperate for rain. I hope you and yours are all well. Prayers continuing for your son in law’s family. BNM
Minor typo, the paper puts Tambora in 1815. Christ Era. (I hate this Common Evil/Before Common Evil nonsense.)
I got to wondering while skimming the article. How did Greenland escape the melting of over a mile thick ice sheet that covered Canada down into NY and Ohio etc? And how can its record be intact and trustable? I can get Antarctica surviving. Yeah, it is further north. But lots of places are north of the arctic circle without super glaciers yet many depict the glacier south of the arctic circle on Greenland.
Sorry for the typo. 1815 was of course the right year.
As for Greenland? Visualize it kinda of like a giant stone bowel with mountainous terrain along the coasts. That bowel is full of ice that forms a dome at more or less the center of the island. Lots of snow falls inland and over time is compacted into solid ice. The weight of that ice and snow pushed the gigantic ice sheet towards the coasts.
Between the peaks along the coast the ice emerges and is pushed into the sea and icebergs are “calved”. It was one of these that doomed the Titanic.
The alarmists like to represent the calving of icebergs as something abnormal caused by a warming climate. In reality calving is naturally increased when more snow and ice accumulates inland so that it’s weight speeds the migration of the ice to the shore.
Of course other factors can increase calving. More melt water increases lubricity so the ice flows over the rocky substrate faster.
During WW II the US had a problem. After the declarations of war FDR wanted US forces involved in the war ASAP. The Army Air Corp was trying to figure out how to get fighter aircraft to Europe. German U-boats were taking a terrible toll of shipping at the time and besides the US was already short of shipping because of fighting a two ocean war.
Larger aircraft like bombers could fly to Europe but the only fighter the US had in it’s inventory at the time with the range to make it was the two engine P-38 lightning.
So a plan was hatched to fly P-38s over during the summer months. Trying to do it during the winter would have been suicidal. And even doing it in the summer it was thought that losses in transit would be about 10%. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
They would fly up to Goose Bay, Labrador or some other field to position for a flight to one of the two airfields in Greenland. Then, after rest and refueling they would fly to Iceland and refuel again. And then from there fly to Scottland.
The P-38s did not have long range radios and their pilots were not trained in celestial navigation so a covey of 4 to 8 of the fighters would be led by a B-17 which did have those capabilities.
The plan worked but was of course fraught with dangers. Several of the flights got lost in severe weather and ended up landing wheels up on the Greenland ice sheet. The rescue efforts to save the valuable pilots were very successful.
In July of 1942 a flight of two B-17s and six P-38s were forced to land on the ice sheet. Landing on the ice sheet were made wheels up. All crew members were rescued but the planes were left where they were.
P-38s are very rare warbirds now and a team was formed to try and locate and recover a P-38 from this flight. She was buried under 268 feet of ice! That gives a good idea of just how much ice accumulates over time on the Greenland icesheet.
So here is the story of Glacier Girl. The only P-38F model flying today. There are other P-38s flying but they are all later models. The P-38 was the only US fighter that remained in front line service during WW II from before the bombing of Pearl Harbor until after the war. During those years of war many modifications were made so the F model looks quite different from the last models produced.

The following cave is reported to have been formed 50-60 million years ago. I don’t know about volcanoes, weather and cause/effect, but the pictures are stunning, for those who want to internet explore. This cave in in the outer Hebrides Islands.

https://www.le.ac.uk/gl/ads/SiberianTraps/Introduction.html
Siberian Traps seem to be old, like 250 million years, if I read the above link, correctly. Very interesting! here was an eruption that covered the earth in ash, reportedly, for a million years. Subsequent pages in this article are hard to read.
The Siberian Traps are the largest of the great “flood basalts” seen today. There are others scattered around the globe, including one in the US NW in Washington and Oregon. But it is a baby compared to that in Siberia.
Geologists hate them because they bury all other existing geology in the areas they cover with a great thickness of basalt so they cannot study the older strata which lie below them. But we laymen that see them enjoy them because of the wonder of the unique formations they have left.
Greetings Treepers!

Good morning, jay💓 What a selection! Where would we all be if we didn’t have our music and the memories to go with it?

Not Fragile was one of the first albums that I bought. I loved the song, “Hey You” from it. I was twelve, and this song didn’t make much of an impression on me. Nice to be re-exposed!
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ.
AMEN.

Rah – I have 2 questions for you if you are around. Another poster on another of Sundances posts led me to this site … and this person
1) https://standupamericaus.org/about-sua/general-vallely/ – He is a graduate of jumpmaster school among other things
and
2) If he is credible, what do you all think of this?
https://standupamericaus.org/the-quantum-financial-system/
I don’t know. Not familiar with the guy. SF was a relatively small community but still large enough that one cannot know or be familiar with all of it and everyone in it. Not even the brass.
Besides that, the simple fact is that I did everything I could to avoid the flag poles. I had no desire to ever be posted to or even near DC, Tampa, or even Ft. Bragg. In my experience the closer on gets to the major flags, the dumber and more political things get.
I was an operator and wanted to stay that way.
Thanks Rah
I figured you would know him and give me ‘stay away’ type info, or say hey, he’s ok – or, as you answered – dunno.
That said, I am curious whether you or other treepers might have opinions about the Quantum Financial System. There are many current posts about the demise of the US and/ or Petro dollar.
Also lots of comment about countries getting together and forming new alliances and trade agreements to the detriment of the world banks , the globalists and NATO.
Y’all got a wonderful community here. I join you in praising the Lord!
I actually came hoping to get something to Sundance.

You know how Sundance cracked the delays of the California ports? I wonder how this fits in with efforts to “bring the show on the road” nationally, such as it were.
Cheers, Jeff
Good afternoon, Jeff. This really is a great group…or as I tend to think of them beloved family. Though you came to post a query to Sundance, I hope you decide to stay. There’s always room for one more😊B
Thanks, Betsy! I always check TCT first thing (and throughout the day). I will check in on everyone here, too.
Jolly good!😊

Shadowstats has had us in double digit inflation for a long time. The government can’t hide it any longer. And yes…the Fed ignored warning lights on inflation. Keynesians, you see. It wasn’t the priority for them. Goal posts were shoved into the future and their maniacal printing has brought us to this point, never mind Congress blowing a hole in the dam of fiscal rectitude (when have they ever been anything but parasites living off our hard work ?).
Anyway, I suppose there is no way to dig through the madness and find another Milton Friedman.🙏 Thank you for your informative post.
For anyone with a bit of time on their hands, I suggest glancing at Lew Rockwell’s site today. There are some extremely interesting stories highlighted …one summing up Archbishop Vigano’s main points in a missive he wrote…and another about how 5G and cell phones will interact with the biojab.
Those are only 2 from that site which caught my attention. The rest are most certainly worth a look.
Thanks, Betsy!
So welcome, Jeff
Thanks for the tip, Betsy!

Good evening Betsy! Will definitely look these articles up. Thanks for the heads up! I’ve been quite busy today, but you were in my thoughts, my friend. https://bombthrower.com/articles/why-hyperbitcoinization-is-now-baked-in/
With 46 doing everything possible to destroy international and domestic trust, functioning, and economy, how will people make financial interactions? Jeftovic thinks it is the same way that money is being sent to the Ukranian resistance today, through Bitcoin.
However it happens, guaranteed we plebs will be the worse for it.
In my email this morning:
ROBERT,
We are happy to announce that we are increasing our weekly rates for our guarantee drivers at our Anderson terminal. The new weekly guarantee will be $1700 and is effective March 13th, 2022!
At 11:00 Sunday I depart with a Nestles load to Breinigsville, PA. I will drop the loaded refer trailer there that night and hook to an empty trailer and then take a 10 hour break. The next morning I have pickups in Phillipsburg and Ridgway, PA that I take to the Vandalia, OH terminal. Then I come home.
It is possible, but very tough to do the pickups in PA, then drop in Vandalia and get home within the 11 hour drive time. So odds are I won’t be back home until sometime Tuesday late morning or early afternoon.
I am rather shocked that I am doing this run again. Nestle refer loads are popular with the board runners because they get an extra 5 cents a mile for hauling the refer.
Lucky and Doc wanted to head for Alaska that very first summer. Alas, Lucky had a call to jury duty. It ended up being a waiting period – no trials materialized. By mid July the coast was clear. They started out on what was to be a 2 month long adventure.
Motor home was ready to go. Preliminary study of the MilePost Book seemed clear and simple. The Alcan starts at Dawson Creek, British Colombia and ends in about 1500 miles – where Alaska begins. Technically the road goes all the way to Fairbanks, but has a different name 🙂
Of course, we didn’t start at Dawson Creek. Had to head North from East Idaho and camped just outside Glacier National Park in Mt. The road north from there is a spectacular drive along the Canadian Rockies. We headed for Banff to overnight at their hot springs resort. Unbeknownst to us, It was a Canadian Holiday weekend – no room at the inn. Nothing to do but keep going until we found a place with a spot for us to camp.
The next day’s drive was filled with the Beauty of the Canadian Rockies. Places we had read about or heard about right there on the other side of our windows. I have never seen a pix that would do justice to the vista. Dawson Creek, when we got there was almost an afterthought.
The next morning, however, we embarked on The Big Adventure. Its along drive. That time of year as you head north the days keep getting longer (daylight saving time ignored). So we are driving along, ooing and aahing, when suddenly BANG!. The right front tire, yes, the one Doc was sitting right on top of, BLEW!. I have to praise the Patriot (MH). She didn’t even flinch.
We pulled safely off to the side of the road and called for road service. We were very explicit – we cannot be towed. Must bring the tire to us. While waiting Doc walked along the highway and removed the shredded tire strips.
Hours later the tow truck arrived – sans tire. Of course, we were miles from civilization (towns). So there we sat at the side of the road while the driver tried to find a tire. Still the Canadian Holiday weekend, and Sunday to boot. Believe it or not, many hours later, the driver returned with a tire. As I recall it was 1 AM ish when we were ready to move. Luckily there was a sort of rest area nearby where we spent the rest of the night.
And onward we went.
Have to tell you about climbing hills and mountains (modified rises thanks to the builders of the road. The climbs are not necessarily steep, but long. So you go slower and slower and slower (puff puff, pant pant). You get to the top and YAY start down – accelerating. You pass this funny sign on the way down. It looks sort of like this: \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/. You say – gee, what an interesting sign. wonder what it means.? After all that effort to get up the hill it is lovely to coast back down. Then you get to the bottom. Bam Bam Bam Bam. Everything onboard rattles. Anything not nailed down hits the floor with a crash. Now you suddenly know what the sign means. The road ‘slips’ and collects at the bottom. Needless to say we didn’t make that mistake again.
Its boring to describe all the beauty of the drive. Sometimes wide open vistas, sometimes a narrow shoulder with steep cut away rocks. Sometimes snow covered mountains in the distance. Sometimes a group of sheep on the road or a bear or an elk crossing. Gotta stay alert. You know, the world needs more ‘lerts.
So after about a week of driving, we got to Alaska. We have often commented to ourselves that as you cross state lines you ‘know’ you are in a different state. Alaska is unlike any state we have ever driven. The road to Anchorage takes you past glaciers, glacier fed rivers, forests and just occasionally, ‘civilization’.
We found a few doctors to visit in Anchorage 🙂 . Drove to Denali, but it was cloudy and rainy, so we could not properly introduce ourselves to that majestic mountain Headed south out of Anchorage and found a spectacular place to camp on the Kenai Peninsula.
We were high on a bluff overlooking a sound – with a row of snow covered volcanoes across the way. Nearby was a famous river that fed into the ocean – so Doc and Lab had to investigate the fishing. That river flowed very fast thru a narrow channel and shot far out into the sound. Signs everywhere warned about letting kids and pets get near the river lest you have trouble rescuing them if they fall in.
Next stop was Homer, a spit of land that lots of people frequent. It is known as the ‘Halibut Fishing Capitol of the World’. The Homer Spit is a narrow 4.5 mile long gravel bar that extends into the bay. What I remember most is people standing shoulder to shoulder fishing – gathered around holes full of fish. Since I are not a fishing person, and since Doc loves mountain streams with no people around, I know not what they were fishing for.
Homer was the southern most part of our Alaska drive, so we began the return journey. Doc specifically wanted to see Valdez, so we detoured to check it out. Much of that drive was along a pipeline. The surrounding land, like our camp on the Kenai Peninsula, is high above the water. The descent is long and winding. The actual town is not very big, crammed as it is between the cliffs and the water. There are signs of tsunami type devastation – and an earthquake. I don’t know that it is permitted to call an area ‘scary’, but we could not wait to leave. Yet, people live and thrive there.
Side note: As I sit here typing a full moon is playing with the clouds. It wasn’t until we were back in Canada that I noticed that all the time we were in Alaska there was no moon. I know, phase of the moon… but also the position of the moon relative to the earth…. Sure was glad to see it again.
As we neared the Alaska / Canada border we encountered a forest fire. It was on both sides of the road and being fought by a great team. They had a single lane open and a train of vehicles was led across the danger zone.
So, we are driving south on the Alcan – not too far from Whitehorse as I recall – Doc was driving this leg. Wouldn’t you know it? BAM! This time the left front tire blew. The only reason the MH budged from the straight and narrow was because Doc flinched from the noise it made (right under him). I told you, this motor home has GREAT suspension / airbags.
This time, being a work day of the week and being close to a ‘major’ city, we easily got help, the tire changed and we were on our way again.
Somewhere along the way we left the Alcan and headed south to re enter the US in Washington state. The highways are good ones, 2 lanes and only slight rises. We noticed that occasionally a truck would follow us for many a mile. Then, for no reason we ever could figure out, approaching a hill, the driver would decide to pass (over the yellow line). Truck was pulling a trailer that had a mobile home or prefab home.
We slowed WAY down – lest the truck encounter head on traffic – necessitating jigs and jogs to prevent a head on collision. It didn’t happen only one time. It happened several times. We later found a roadside cafe – and some Canadian law types were there. We reported what we saw and were greeted with shrugs – and ‘be careful’ type response.
We were glad to cross back into the US of A.
Alaska is a very unique part of our country. Sarah Palin is the epitome of an Alaska Woman. The people, the way of life, are like no other part of our country. The drive, the vistas, the people and their heritage are indescribable experiences. Worth every minute and every mile.
Oh – we later found out that tires have a lifespan not related to miles driven. When we bought the Patriot it didn’t have many miles, but It was built enough years earlier that we should have changed the tires before driving all those miles. Lessons learned.
Ms Idaho, your excursion sounds like quite the adventure. Thank goodness your blowouts were safely rectified! That would be scary to have experienced it. The scenery was breathtaking ,I’m sure but it must have seemed strange to be in a part of usa and yet so far from the greater usa. You and doc are very brave pioneers, so to speak. Although it was a beautiful place to visit, I got the feeling you had more fun in the other places you and doc explored. Thanks for sharing your life experiences with us (me). They surely have been amazing and although I haven’t travel as far or as much as you and doc, I got to experience a little taste. Thanks again ❤️
Maybe my description did not do it justice. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Despite the time we spent we only experienced a tiny part of what Alaska has to offer. We wanted to return, but things didn’t work out that way.
I envied a flying friend of mine from my FAA days. She hooked up with Winnebago – a manufacturer of motor homes – and led caravans to Alaska for a number of years after she retired. HAH – she has some tales to tell.
We did spend some time contemplating whether we might like to ‘retire’ there. It was tempting. Re: feeling far from the greater usa – the people who live there speak of travel as ‘going outside’ – if that gives you a hint about their outlook.
The people who live there view themselves (and react to the ‘rest of the usa’) like the characters of the old west – think Rawhide, Wyatt Earp, Wagon Train. They may not carry guns, but they live lose to the earth and are much more in harmony with it.
Believe me, the idea of ‘moving there’ did tug at our heartstrings
One time I was taking a heavily loaded trailer to Laredo. The trailer was an Extralease trailer. IOW not company equipment but leased from a company called Extra Lease. During my pretrip inspect I noted micro cracks in the sidewalls of the tire indicating dry rot.
Rubber denigrates over time due to exposure to the sun and actually dries out and looses it’s elasticity. When aged like that and put under any stress it starts to crack.
I took the trailer into the express bay and they saw the problem but told me that they couldn’t do a thing about it. The lease company would not pay for replacement until the tire failed. Now that sucks because if DOT caught me they would ticket ME and not the Lease company.
But I drove on. Driving down I-55 in IL on that hot day when a tire went it sounded like a 10 ga shotgun going off. That tire blew the full tread off so that all that was left were the metal cords flapping.
I pulled into the Loves truck stop at Ina, IL and called the emergency number of the Lease company and they sent a guy out to change it. Then I was on my way again and had not gone 10 miles when BOOM, the tire on the inside of the one that had been replaced blew.
I pulled up on an entrance ramp and the same guy came and changed that tire.
Huge pile up with several fatalities on I-57 in Missouri yesterday.
6 People Dead After 135-Vehicle Crash in Missouri: ‘Most Horrendous I’ve Seen in My Lifetime’ (msn.com)
Driven that stretch of road far more times than I can remember. It is only about 14 miles from the bridge over the Mississippi passing from IL to where I-57 terminates into I-55 in Missouri. The road is pretty much straight and passes over river bottom land that is table top flat.
When the message came over my Samsara tab yesterday when I was driving in the big truck I figured that it was the result of fog.
Number 2 horrific crash this week, rah. Far west Texas, New Mexico golf team and coaches head on, hit by 13 year old driving his dad’s truck with dad as passenger…9 killed. Just beyond horrific.
And according to what I’ve read, yes, fog was an issue.
Many families grieving today, and both of us offer is offer prayers for all those trying to make sense of something that has blind sided them all🙏
Amen
Amen 🙏
Amen.
Amen.
Amen
Amen.
Ha! Accuweather finally catches up with Joe Bastardi.
This is why I listen to Joe and and do my best to pass his forecasts on here. He is always way ahead of companies like these in his forecast. They rely strictly on the models. Joe looks at the models and uses analogs of past years with similar weather patterns and then antilogs of years with opposite weather patterns, and then based on the many decades of experience at Weatherbell they make their forecast.
I posted here about three weeks ago essentially the same thing that Accuweather is finally saying here:
