Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Knock Off the Purloining! – Titus 2:10
By Pastor Ricky Kurth
Did you hear about the man who got caught stealing a calendar from the office where he worked? He got 12 months!
All stealing is sinful, but stealing from your employer is a special kind of sin. That’s why the Apostle Paul told Titus to
“Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters…not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity” (Titus 2:9,10).
The word “purloining” means stealing, but it refers to a very specific kind of stealing. Webster’s Online Dictionary defines it as: “to appropriate wrongfully… often by a breach of trust.” When a man robs a bank with a gun, that’s stealing. But when a bank employee embezzles a bank’s money, that’s purloining, for banks trust their employees to handle their money honestly.
Masters in Bible days often trusted their servants with their money—often with all their money, as when Potiphar made Joseph his “overseer” (Gen. 39:1-6). A man in a trusted position like that could easily rob his master blind. Other Bible servants were trusted with just enough money to buy something at the market. If such a man told his master that an item cost 100 shekels and it only cost 90, he could easily pocket 10 shekels and his master would never be the wiser.
While the word “purloining” doesn’t always refer to stealing something by a breach of trust, we know that it does in our text, for Paul says that servants should be: “not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity.” That’s a word that means faithfulness. The Marine Corps motto is Semper Fi, which is an abbreviated form of the Latin phrase Semper Fidelis—“Always Faithful.”
When I was a boy, my mom had a “hi-fi” in our living room. The manufacturers called it that because they claimed the sound you heard from their record player had high fidelity, that it was highly faithful to the sound recorded in the studio. They claimed that their device made the record sound exactly like the original music. So in saying that servants shouldn’t be purloining, “but shewing all good fidelity,” Paul was saying if a master trusted a servant with 100 shekels that he should give his master his item and the exact change, with no purloining.
While we don’t have masters and servants today, plenty of purloining goes on in the workplace! Employees bring home all kinds of things from work. Years ago Johnny Cash sang a song called “One Piece At A Time,” a song about an employee at the Cadillac plant in Detroit who couldn’t afford a Caddy so he proceeded to steal one by taking it home one piece at a time. It’s funny to laugh about that, but one of the lines of the song says, “I’ve never considered myself a thief, but GM wouldn’t miss just one little piece, especially if I strung it out over several years.”
Well, you might not consider yourself a thief for purloining, but you are one, and it’s not funny. A recent study showed that purloiners steal 50 billion dollars’ worth of things annually. Compare that to the losses sustained by thieves who steal the old fashioned way, by breaking and entering, or by robbing people at gunpoint—a comparatively paltry 14 billion dollars’ worth!
Employees also steal time from their employers. A recent study says that the average employee steals 4.5 hours per week from his boss while ostensibly working a forty-hour week. That adds up to 6 weeks per year per employee, costing companies hundreds of billions of dollars.
Now I know that it’s easy to think, “My boss doesn’t pay me enough anyway, so I’m just evening the score.” But if that’s how you feel about this issue, consider that Paul was telling slaves not to be guilty of purloining. If anyone had a score to settle, it was men who weren’t getting paid anything for their labor! But Paul tells even them not to be guilty of purloining.
So if you’re stealing from your employer, knock it off, and show him all good fidelity instead. You’ll be Pauline in practice, not just in doctrine, and you’ll be eternally glad you did.

Titus 2:9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;
10 Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.
Genesis 39:1 ¶ And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.
2 And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
4 And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.
5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.
6 And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.
NATIONAL EAT YOUR BEANS DAY
National Eat Your Beans Day is a “live healthy” holiday observed every year on July 3rd. This day celebrates the bean vegetable in all sizes, shapes, and colors. Beans (legumes) date back to the early seventh millennium BCE, making them one of the longest-cultivated plants.
As they were seven millennia ago, today, beans are a significant source of protein. If you’re looking for complex carbohydrates, folate, fiber, and iron, eat some beans. They are excellent sources for each of those. A very healthy choice for any meal or snack, they are also an excellent source of fiber, low in fat and high in complex carbohydrates, folate, and iron.
Silly questions,
since today is also national disobedience day, does that mean I don’t have to obey any of the other eight national days?
and haven’t they laid a clever trap here? I can’t be disobedient today without being obedient.
and isn’t this subtle mind control? ‘You can disobey one day a year’ translates to ‘obey me all other days’.
and what is with having nine different national days all on the same day? might as well just have everyday be national everything day. but then nobody would have to pay to have their special day.
All the legumes are rich in phytoestrogens. So guys, if you want to grow boobs, eat a lot of beans.
Well that is not my problem when I eat a lot of beans!
NATIONAL FRIED CLAM DAY
National Fried Clam Day is observed annually on July 3rd. Fried clams are an iconic food in the New England states. Seaside clam shacks or roadside restaurants serve these delectable nuggets and tend to be the primary source for anyone seeking them. The clams are dipped in milk and coated with a combination of regular, corn, and/or pastry flour. Then the coated clams are fried in oil. They can be “clam strips” (sliced parts of hard-shell clams) or whole soft-shell clams. Whole soft-shell clams impart a fuller flavor. However, some restaurants remove the clam’s neck.
HoJo’s used to have fried clam strip special every Friday….
(Are you old enough to have eaten at Howard Johnson’s many times..?)
?
Am I? When I was in high school (early 70’s) I worked at a HoJo restaurant and cooked those “Tendersweet” clams by the bushel! Earned $1.85/hr and had all the money I thought I’d ever need –
In my younger days my mom was a line cook at our local HJ, an easy walk from our house. Oh, those onion rings! Thanks for reminding me.

when dames were dames and tires glowed in the dark
that is one tomorrow that never happened. but one of the cars they used to show them off had radar controlled braking. in the 60’s? What took so long to make that happen for the rest of us?
Just as an aside, when I hear glow in the dark, I think radioactive, not turn on the lights. and that is the right timeframe to be so stupid. but it was light bulbs. I wonder how they brought the power in? brushes like in a motor?
also, how often do you have to change the bulbs? I thought the lights might be nice for fixing a flat at night, but it will go dark once you take it off.
The things I looked up said it never happened because, the tires had problems above 65 mph, had trouble when wet at any speed, and melted when braking. I wonder if anti-lock brakes would get around the last one. And, they caused lots of other drivers to do stupid things.
And now tire pressure sensors that work at any speed are standard equipment on many vehicles.
And whatever happened to whitewalls? Getting them clean and bright again was half the fun of washing the car…… ?

THE CONCENTRATION OF PERSONAL SIN
“Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips.” Isaiah vi. 5
When I get into the presence of God, I do not realize that I am a sinner in an indefinite sense; I realize the concentration of sin in a particular feature of my life. A man will say easily – “Oh, yes, I know I am a sinner”; but when he gets into the presence of God he cannot get off with that statement. The conviction is concentrated on – I am this; or that, or the other. This is always the sign that a man or woman is in the presence of God. There is never any vague sense of sin, but the concentration of sin in some personal particular. God begins by convicting us of the one thing fixed on in the mind that is prompted by His Spirit; if we will yield to His conviction on that point, He will lead us down to the great disposition of sin underneath. That is the way God always deals with us when we are consciously in His presence.
This experience of the concentration of sin is true in the greatest and the least of saints as well as in the greatest and the least of sinners. When a man is on the first rung of the ladder of experience, he may say – I do not know where I have gone wrong; but the Spirit of God will point out some particular definite thing. The effect of the vision of the holiness of the Lord on Isaiah was to bring home to him that he was a man of unclean lips. “And he laid it upon my mouth, and said Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.” The cleansing fire had to be applied where the sin had been concentrated.

July 3rd Devotional
Good morning America, 🙂
Bank that penny! It represents two years’ worth of interest on a dollar at today’s average rate of 0.5% interest on savings.
Seriously, don’t leave any significant amount of cash in banks – your purchasing power is decreasing each day and when the financial system heads south (any time now) large deposits will be seized. You may not know it but the money in “your” account really isn’t “yours”. It really isn’t money, either, but that’s another story.
. . . but deliver us from the Evil One.
Amen ?

✟
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Hebrews 10:25 (KJV)
Thank You, Jesus, for blessings received and prayers answered!!!
BE MY VOICE
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, amen.

Here is a cool photo:
I find it amazing that this photo, taken so many years ago, actually still
exists! And now, someone has put it online for all of us to see.
This INCREDIBLE picture was taken in 1918.
It is 18,000 men preparing for war in a training camp
at Camp Dodge, Iowa.
FACTS:
Base to Shoulder: 150 feet;
Right Arm: 340 feet; Widest part of arm
holding torch: 12 1/2 feet;
Right thumb: 35 feet;
Thickest part of body: 29 feet;
Left hand length: 30 feet;
Face: 60 feet;
Nose: 21 feet;
Longest spike of head piece: 70 feet;
Torch and flame combined: 980 feet;
Number of men in flame of torch: 12,000;
Number of men in torch: 2,800;
Number of men in right arm: 1,200;
Number of men in body, head and balance of figure only: 2,000
Total men: 18,000
These stats demonstrate that the designer realized that the width and lengths of every part of the figure had to increase steadily the farther away from the camera they would be, due to the effect of perspective. So the design fit within an inverted trapezoid (wider at the top than at the bottom) in order to appear to be more rectangular in proportion from the camera lens (or the human eye).
Happy 4th of July!
Great find, GB.
My Grandfather was at Camp Dodge. I don’t know if he was in the photo.

Afternoon all!
Hell of a week. Sunday 23:00 teamed with Randy. Went in his Volvo. I bobtailed to the Vandalia, OH terminal and hooked to a preloaded trailer. I took it to Dexter, MO where they took their shipments and then took the rest to the Monroe shock and strut factory in Paragould, AR. There I ran out of hours and Randy took over.
We dropped the trailer we had brought and hooked to a preloaded trailer. Randy took it back to Dexter where they loaded more freight. He got as far back as Vandalia where he dropped the trailer we brought in a door. I then took over and bobtailed back to our terminal in Anderson, IN.
We got back late Tuesday night. Wednesday before my 10 hour break was even over they called for me to run again. A driver with a milk run to Columbus, IN and then Madison, IN and then back to Anderson had pulled the wrong trailer. There are systems in place to prevent this kind of mistake but nothing is idiot proof.
Dispatch printed out duplicate Bills of Lading and I hooked to the proper trailer. As soon as I got my hours back I was on my way to Fauricia, 601` S Gladstone Ave. in Columbus, IN. There they took their sweet time getting me unloaded and then said there was one shipment of one palate missing.
Next I headed down to Arvin in Madison, IN. There they took off the rest of the freight and found the palate that should have gone to Gladstone mixed in with theirs. I had them put the palate for Gladstone on the back to one side after they loaded their stuff on the trailer. Then I went to another Arvin plant just down the road. There all the doors had trailers in them. They only had two gaylords so I backed up to an overhead door and they loaded it from the ground, pushing their two gaylords down the opposite side of where the palate for Fauricia was.
Though dispatch had told me I could bring back the palate for Fauricia and they would put it on another delivery I was going right by the place on the way back to Anderson so I went back in to deliver that single palate too them.
The problem was there was a powerful thunderstorm and it was really coming down. I had to walk through about 8″ of water to take my paper work in. And despite wearing a rain coat I was soaked by the time it was all said and done. They were very appreciative because I guess they really needed the parts but as so often seems to happen, no good deed goes unpunished.
Got back to Anderson at 13:00.
10 hours later I was back at the terminal wearing my new boots I had bought several weeks ago because the ones I wore the day before were still soaked. Nestles Load of over 41,000 lb of their Boost nutritional drink bound for the Nestles campus at Breinigsville, PA just east of Allentown 613 miles away. I arrived at Breinigsville at 22:00, and there dropped the loaded trailer in a door and then, in the rain again, hooked to an empty trailer and did my Pre-trip inspection on it.
My inspection revealed that one of the super single tires was a recap and the edge of the recap was delaminating from the sidewall of the tire. I judged it would make it ok though had DOT inspected me, they would have ticketed me for it.
I had 34 minutes left of drive time remaining once I had done all that. I needed to get to Pottstown, PA just east of Reading, PA to take my break and be ready to be loaded with Catalyst for Catalytic converters at Johnson Matthey at 09:00 the next morning. I knew I would run over on my drive time getting there but figured it would only be about 10 minutes over the maximum 11 hour drive time. I was wrong.
It was a dark rainy night and I found PA-29 was closed and had to make a big detour. It is not fun driving in that part of the country even in daylight, let alone doing so in rain and darkness. I ended up going 49 minutes over my drive time. Nice and quiet with plenty of overnight parking at the facility in Pottstown.
Next morning since my 10 hour break had not been completed by my appointment time I drove at a maximum of 3 mph as I eased out and then backed into the dock to get loaded there by leaving my e-log thinking I was still sitting still and not changing to driving.
These catalyst loads are light and floor loaded and that is a good thing when going across the hills and curves of the PA turnpike. So despite heavier than usual traffic because of the 4th of July Holiday weekend starting, I made good time.
Got back in at Anderson at 21:30 with 1 hour of drive time left after doing 638 miles. First I went into the express bay where they inspected the tire and agreed it needed changed. They set it up for later and put a red tag on the trailer. I then took to trailer and dropped it in a door. Went back to the fuel islands and fueled and gave the truck a good post trip inspection. Dumped my trash, greased the fifth wheel, and parked it. Got home when it was almost 23:00.
For this solid week of work I grossed nearly $2,300 counting per diem.
Rah / that’s some serious driving and logistics.
Question – with 10 hour drive time limits, does that mean 14 hours down time? When you’re away from home during down time, do most truck rest stops have decent exercise facilities available to use?
Thats a great question about the exercise facilities. When I drive far (not a big truck!) I try to stop and stretch so I don’t get hunched over and stiff… how in the world do truckers keep going so long?
rah, so you are the man who keeps so many stocked
Thank you again…
Ha! Those worried about global warming and climate change can put their rubber sheets and Depends away now.
Three out of the last four months have have had temperature below the 30 year mean. This demonstrates clearly that it is natural factors driving the weather and climate and not the supposedly all powerful human produced atmospheric CO2.
Fact is that every spike up you see in the graph is from an El Nino but so far this year we have been in La Nina or Neutral conditions.

Well today I got my hair cut, bought over $360.00 in fireworks, bought bird seed and seed blocks, and mowed my acre. Sherry has her meat loaf, which is the best IMO, mashed potatoes and gravy, and asparagus spears going for dinner.
If there is anything left of me, I will be out by the fire with my neighbor and consume as much Jack & non coke as I desire. Perfect evenings for campfires here in central Indiana.
Happy Independence Day to you and yours, Rah! Good you are home safe and sound to relax with family and friends.
Thank you for all that you do for this great country of ours. I believe I can speak for many of other CTH treepers by saying we appreciate your road stories.
God bless you and yours on this celebratory American holiday, and we are thankful you (as a trucker) are part of ‘Americana’ and what makes America great.
Have a great 4th. We still have the greatest country in the world and despite all that the forces of evil are trying to do to change that, celebrate what you have that has been bought and paid for by those that came before us.
lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and his family as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

The battle of Guilford Courthouse.
When I was attending the Special Forces Advanced Noncommissioned officers course we got to go on a field study trip of a battle. Cadets at West Point go to Gettysburg. We went to Guilford Courthouse not too far from Ft. Bragg where the course was.
Guilford Courthouse was like many battles fought during the revolution. The very first full blown battle known as Bunker Hill (June 17th, 1775) was a British victory because in the end they had taken the field of battle driving the Americans off the hill. But the cost in soldiers and officers was prohibitive. Even then many British officers understood that the Kings forces could not sustain the loses and such “victories” would not win the war.
March 15th, 1781 came the battle of Guilford Courthouse. Again the British won by taking the field of battle and again their loses were prohibitive. This was the last major battle before Yorktown.
And in the end that sets the theme. The way the Americans won , r put another way, the way the British lost. Time and again the British would drive the Americans off the field and declare victory. And time and again the same Americans would come back to fight again at some other place and time. They did not quit. They licked their wounds and came back to fight again. You cannot win a war with such victories as the British won. Taking land does not wind wars, only destroying the enemy forces or their will to win, leads to the ultimate victory.
One little point about the victory at Yorktown. When one adds in the sailors of the blockading French Fleet, there were more Frenchmen at Yorktown than Americans.
ELSA projected track. Some folks where this storm is likely to go really need the rain. So it’s not all bad news.
