Rising unemployment, massive inflation, “stagflation” and now gas lines… Looks like that recent meeting with Jimmy Carter was about recreating the 1970s.
The White House responds to fuel shortages appearing in the mid-Atlantic and southeast:
“The President continues to be regularly briefed on the Colonial Pipeline incident. The Administration is continually assessing the impact of this ongoing incident on fuel supply for the East Coast.
We are monitoring supply shortages in parts of the Southeast and are evaluating every action the Administration can take to mitigate the impact as much as possible. The President has directed agencies across the Federal Government to bring their resources to bear to help alleviate shortages where they may occur.” (read more)
The statement from the White House is a little obtuse, considering the administration has yet to waive the Jones Act to streamline fuel transportation.
To be fair, the current areas running out of gas are more likely a combination of panic purchasing than an actual fuel supply issue. However, as seen in regions where hurricanes lead to panic purchasing, the lack of fuel can be an issue that cascades quickly.

I tried to fill up my car at the most popular station in my area yesterday and they had all the pumps closed. I have never seen that before.

During the Arab Oil Embargo in the mid 70’s the lines were long. In TX tey finally had a system- even plates go certain days, odd plates the other.
I remember LONG gas lines back in the ’70’s thanks to Jimmy Carter. One time I waited for an hour and then they ran out. I had to hitch hike from Burbank to Hollywood the next morning to get to work and then I couldn’t do an important errand for my boss with no car. A friend in NC emailed me about the line there right now. All because people think Democrats are so wonderful.
Wait until they try to charge their cars and no Electricity, they have not seen the brown outs that will happen this summer.
I was in California at that time. We could only get gas on a schedule. I wish I could remember what that was. Birth month? Tags on the cars? I really hate how my memory is so crappy now.

I filled up on Saturday, and all our lawn mowing cans. We did some driving Saturday and I topped up the 3 gallons we used on Sunday morning. Why did I fill up on Saturday & Sunday? Because I heard the news and knew this was likely to happen. I hate panic buying and like to be prepared.
I’m old enough to remember the gas shortages of the Carter administration, which is why I find the picture of the Bidens with the Carters a fitting choice.
Did the same Saturday in NC. My kids and grands tell me I read too much news. They’re happy I do now.
I saw news on Saturday and filled up (here in NC) on Sunday because I knew exactly what was about to happen. My son left for the beach yesterday and managed to fill up when he arrived there. Today he called and said the stations on Oak Island, NC are either closed or have long lines and that people who had arrived a few days ago are leaving hoping they can get gas to get home.
I lived in Los Angeles during the Carter crisis years and vividly recall waiting in gas lines and using license plate designations to determine which days we could get gas. Ugh!
Whether it’s manufactured or real, it’s a huge issue.

Yeah I filled the big SUV up on Saturday after I saw the news, here in Metro-Charlotte , South Carolina. Got lucky and found some premium left an hour ago for my regular car which I use premium in anyway.

Welcome to Jimmy Carter Redux. Cooper announces a State of Emergency and then tells us not to panic? With my car almost on empty, I went out for gasoline first thing today (rural town NC). My usual station had closed all its pumps, but I found a station selling gasoline — only premium (almost $4/gal). Took a book, prepared to wait in line, but didn’t have to do that. News is showing long lines in Raleigh though. Oh for the good old days when toilet paper was the only thing hard to get.
Obviously the Carters are now living in Hobbitville. It was nice of the Bidens’ to pay a visit.. But the question remains, did they get the ring needed to defeat Trump the Valdore?

Here in the Charlotte area, on the North and South Carolina sides, the gas is almost gone.
I just got lucky and drove to a station that I knew is little frequented. No lines, but only premium, which was fine for me since that is what I use anyway. The wife’s car I had randomly filled up yesterday so we have 2 all full, but that was just dumb luck.
A fellow at the station I just returned from said he had been to 9 other stations and all had all pumps closed.
The two I passed on the way to where I went, a QT and a BP both had all pumps closed.
I passed another BP with what was probably about a 3 hour line for the single pump they still had open.
Incredible, the USA went from unlimited, most production ever in the world, cheap abundant energy under President Trump to gas lines under the communists in just 5 short months.

It does remind me of the Carter years . Was working in a gas station in Colorado Springs when they had gas on odd/even days and 10 gallon limit. Almost had a few fights over disgruntled customers . Maybe joe is trying to leapfrog over Obama and Carter to take the WORST PRESIDENT EVER award.

Those of us old enough to remember know that the gas lines started in 1973 when Nixon (a so-called “Republican”) was President. Price controls on oil were in effect. A few years earlier, Nixon imposed comprehensive wage and price controls. Nixon was also responsible for the EPA, OSHA, closing the “gold window”, and betraying Nationalist China by embracing the Communists on the mainland. These policies were called “conservative” then. I mention these things to remind folks that the blame for America’s current decline is shared by both parties.
