The battle over COVID vaccination passports in Florida came down to a reversal by Caribbean Cruise Lines yesterday. After Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed legislation that fined companies $5,000 per incident for requiring COVID vaccination identification Royal Caribbean backed down from the fight.
MIAMI – Royal Caribbean International will no longer require any of its cruise passengers to be vaccinated for COVID-19 as it had previously planned to.
In a press release Friday announcing cruises for sale on eight of its ships from U.S. ports this summer, starting with Freedom of the Seas from PortMiami on July 2, the company said it will recommend passengers get the COVID-19 vaccine, but not require it. The announcement is a reversal from previous statements and vaccine protocols the company submitted to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last month that said it would require all passengers at least 18 years old and older to be vaccinated.
[…] The about-face is an apparent submission to Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has insisted that there will be no exception made for cruise companies to a newly passed Florida law that fines companies $5,000 each time they ask a patron to provide proof of vaccination. (read more)
Cruise lines….kissed the ring!!!
Awesome.
Sundance, PDJT and now Gov. DeSantis
???Simply the best , better than all the rest. ???
Hope to add more to the list!
MTG, Loran Bobert, Dr. Kelly Ward to name a few.
Yes! Agree. Also Mr. Lindell!
Would love to see three or four more governors with DeSantis’ fight.
Me too Donnie. My gov. Is John Bel Edwards and one of my Senators is…..bill cassidy. ?. So you know where I am. ?
No poses. No Kabuki. No letters. Action.
If only we had a party where all the elected office holders were like him. He defines everything the typical Republican is not.
God, so true.
Sickening we only have one guy like this until Trump gets back in there.
We need 49 more governors exactly like DeSantis. Fix those fraudulent voting machines and “we’ll see what happens.”
The true power lies with the states. Thanks be to our founders! We need righteous leaders at the state level to leverage this power!
Who would have thunk it, fighting back!
The MAGA force is strong with this one.
In the Waaay back machine, recall the good Gov almost lost the last election to that tosser Andrew Gollum….who was found unconscious with gay stripper.
God was looking out for us….
Yes that election was Way to close!!
Stacey Abrams says the other guy actually won.
In fairness to Stacey, it was hard to hear what she actually said since her mouth was stuffed full of Krispy Kremes…
Sadly he is but one of 50. Most of the rest are traitors. Even our governor in TX does not compare to Gov DeSantis which is a real disappointment.
Occasional glimmers of Hope and Trust. Two already by Sundance…. Thanks!
I LOVE that man. And I’m not even American!
Me too. That was my family’s favorite winter vacation for over 30 years. I don’t know when we will be able to visit Miami Beach again? Canada needs to rid itself of Justine and his insane policies. God Bless this man Gov. DeSantis and his family.
He’s the MAN!
This is a huge victory!! Their legal department probably told them that they would lose if they tried to take this court. And if they did follow through with it, and there was any kind of outbreak anyway, which there always are on cruise ships, they could end up being liable, which they currently are not!!
And their cruises wouldn’t be leaving from Florida!
The cruise lines are still dickheads.
Just because you can force them to not be dickheads for a moment doesn’t change their basic nature.
They can, er, ‘go forth and multiply’.
Lots of good Americans, travel agents and others, desperately need this to work. Let’s hope the Xiden Admin does not now pull the approval of US-based sailings, purely out of spiteful politics.
“Those who are unvaccinated or unable to verify vaccination will be required to undergo testing and follow other protocols, which will be announced at a later date.”
It’s not over yet. There’s an additional complication of some vessels being foreign flagged. While watching all this going on I’m wondering what it’s a smokescreen for.
Yes since were nearly half the population or more if we stop giving business to those cruise line companies the demand a vaccination we will put them out of business. It’s time we stop being weak and take the bull by the horn and kick them in the balls if need be and we start winning.
Cruise lines can finally get adequate medical support to be in the safe but pleasant cruise business or be bankrupt communist cruise lines trying to dictate.
I agree. Boycott these losers. They deserve to lose their MAGA customers. Maybe if they kept these ships clean in the first place, they wouldn’t have c-diff diarrhea outbreaks every year!
Someone tell these rocket scientists to fumigate their ships before cruises and keep Ivermectin, HCQ, AZ , Zinc, Vitamins C & D and Budesonide on hand in case someone displays Covid-19 symptoms.
Easy peasy.
Its amazing how ordinary citizens can come up with simple, effective, lower-voat solutions for almost anything…Better than gov’t in almost all things, always.
Govt are exactly what our Framers told us they were…Parasites that eventually kill the host.
They are truly parasites, we exist solely to provide them with money, prestige, income, pensions, power, etc. Just like livestock.
You’ll never ever fix stupid. Those willing to put up with that nonsense do not have the common sense God gave a goat. God bless Gov. DeSantis and all who fight through this evil.
It is far worse than just stupid. It is their ideological commitment to commuinsm that is the real problem.
Ever since I saw a report that they have only a few hours to change all the beds and clean everything, and load new food and take out the old, I have never wanted to go on a cruise. Sounds like a petri dish. No offense to those who enjoy cruises.
Vaxxed people can still get infected. The cruise ships have central air which moves air room to room. Not a clean room atmosphere. They are cleaner than NYC apartment buildings.
They can’t do that because they’d have to require that of all passengers as they can’t ask vaccination status. The vaccinated will be pissed having to get a test or wear a mask. Foreign flagged – they are all foreign flagged they still can’t do business in FL – which is really the best if not only option for cruise lines if they require passengers to show proof of vaccination. What could happen is passengers are not allowed to disembark in foreign ports or call without vaccination so they have to stay on the ship.
Not a smokescreen but a shinny object. Joe Biden is still installed and the cackling whore is In the #2 slot
Only when the entire administration and Congress is marched into Potomac should we the people be satisfied.
Does this mean the “unvaxxed” won’t be able to eat at the buffet tables, attend the shows etc? Maybe they will be quartered in the hold!
A needed VICTORY!! Thank you, Governor DeSantis!!!! ???❤️
Has he put into effect or thought about equal protections so that unvaxxed can’t be discriminated against while using the service? Because you know that’s the next step, “Oh, you’re not vaxxed? Then we’re going to make your time with us a living hell.”
Why in the name of all that is sensible would a sane, logical person want to GO on one of those floating skyscrapers?
Maybe the same people who are so proud about being “fully vaccinated” are the same types that go on those cruises.
I was hearing about horrible flu outbreaks on cruise ships way before the Coronavirus – deathly, deathly ill, ruined trip –
no way would I ever go on one of those claustrophobic nightmares!
Me and my wife went on 10 cruises. Never got sick, never had a problem, always had a great time.
I have never been on one myself booger but I have a LOT of family and friends that enjoy these cruises and have never gotten sick.
Many were repeat customers like you and love every minute of their time on these ships.
Lots of US citizens rely on this industry to put food on the table, especially in FL but across the nation as well. May not be your cup of tea but millions find it a great value.
The norovirus outbreaks are the ones that gross me out. Stories of whole areas of the ship reeking of vomit and worse.
“There Really Is a Cruise Ship Phobia –
The cruise ship itself can be a source of fear for some people.
Whether you are terrified by thoughts of the Titanic
or were raised by parents who are nervous around large objects,
simply looking at a cruise ship may make you nervous.”
I hear ya @ Suejeanne1. I have always lived near the ocean. I Iove sailing. I also enjoy the lakes and mountains. These are my happy places.
The thought of a cruise ship, however, goes against my nature. I can’t stand confined spaces or underwater cabins. And I’m not fond of elbowing my way through crowds of people. It would make me claustrophobic as well.
How would they know you are unvaccinated? If they aske for proof of vaccination they are fined 5k.
The cruise lines need Florida a lot more than Florida needs them.
Glad Gov. DeSantis held the line on this. But just don’t cruise. Problem solved. When their financial condition tanks worse than it already has they will change their ways. You don’t have to give your money to bad people or companies.
I’d like to think that the Cruise Lines are indeed running out of money, and simply can’t afford to fight this any longer.
Probably more right than you think!
The economy shed a record 22.2 million jobs in March and April after large swaths of the U.S. were shut down to curb the spread of Covid-19, according the Labor Department’s survey of business …
Cruise Lines create jobs. whats wrong with that……………………………………………………………………….?
Nothing, but I’ rather see the cruise lines lose jobs than oil and gas.
‘I’ rather see the cruise lines lose jobs’ like “Non-Essential Services,Entertainment, night clubs, bowling alleys, arcades, racetracks, indoor children’s play places, pool halls, adult gaming, and entertainment venues. Recreation facilities, including gyms and fitness centers, swimming pools and spas,……………?
Believe it or not, the cruise lines offered affordable vacations for folks like me. We had a cruise booked on RC and were so disappointed when we couldn’t go. They did everything they could to try & re-book at for a different time only to be disappointed again when it was cancelled once more due to the “pandemic”. They eventually ended up giving back 100% of our money. Believe me, that had to hurt financially and was no fault of theirs. I realize they’re not 100% perfect, but they employed a LOT of people and were a boon to many local economies.
I’m glad the Governor held the line on this as well and you certainly don’t have to cruise if you don’t want to. But keep in mind how this effects the economy and jobs. I believe it’s possible to operate them safely………..take extra cleaning precautions. And as someone said in another comment, make sure people are encouraged to stay healthy, take vitamins C & D, zinc, and the good doctor on board should be well equipped with Ivermectin to dispense as needed to anyone feeling even slightly ill.
Winning.
Truth, Justice, and the American Way!!
DeSantis is a star, but never forget, Trump went into the breach and made DeSantis possible. Remember, Gillum was a “serious” challenger. Not only did Florida dodge a bullet, but a star was born.
Absolutely correct sir!!!
I personally always thought PT plucked DeS from Congress and and nudged him to run for Gov. He endorsed him from the get go.
Me too. I remember watching them at a rally together (the one where Trump made him show everyone his muscles and emphasized he wasn’t fat, just built) and thinking that Trump had chosen him to be his successor.
I remember that too! Yep. PT picked him. No one knew him outside his FL district until PT….
Hopespringseternal202: I watched him in congress, and he was a fighter and obviously very smart. I was sorry to see him leave, but Florida was going to be in trouble if they elected a democrat governor.
In 2 short years, he got their corrupt election practices straightened out and many other America First propositions in place. In addition, he gained serious executive chops to add to his resume and exposure on the national stage.
He is one of the few Presidential contenders the republicans have that’s worth a flip.
Gillman came WAY too close for comfort. And this is the trend now.
Look at all the out of state money that came into TX (Beto), SC (Harrison), FL, etc.
The tyrants are BUYING elections now, Senate mostly.
Its obscene, and scary.
Now they need to take it a step further, and make sure they don’t charge unvaccinated people more. For that matter, they should make sure there is no form of discrimination against unvaccinated people.
Cruise ships are floating virus factories anyway. Does this law only apply to passengers boarding at ports in Florida? Cant see how Ron can enforce it at other ports of call. Anyway the law should go further and not stop with a fine. Board the ship and arrest the Captain and all senior officers. A few nights in the Miami county jail should set them right. “Come here sailor boy”
Now there’s a thought … Mr. Trump runs for Congress and (of course) wins and becomes Speaker of the House. Two years later, the Speaker of the House supports a Mr. DeSantis in his run for the Presidency and a resulting two terms. Now where can we find a kick-ass Veep to pick up the reins after those great eight years. Especially, need to keep those damn RINO’s on the outs.
I’ll only vote for Trump. DeSantis needs more time to prove himself.
Leon Brozyna: I like it, but the question is would Trump? I’m thinking not so much. Trump will either run again or be the ultimate King Maker.
I was so happy to just see him in fine form yesterday, but whatever he decides is OK with me.
DeSantis is a true American Patriot. Too bad every governor is not like him for we might then be able to stop the criminals in DC from completing their goal to destroy America.
Voco Veritas: More governors are following his lead. There is hope!
Imagine if that other guy won FL in 2018: Biden would’ve carried FL, the state would still be locked down and vaccine passports would be the norm!
Eric C. Shudder, perish the thought.
Question is whether the ships’ medical officers know squat about treating viral illness effectively now.
Those of us who knew IV vitamin C in the Klennerian range and megavitamin D3 antiviral effects before 2019 weren’t so panicked by CV19 as the idiots running the madhouse. Ditto early data on early use HCQ triple therapy, and adequate ivermectin.
DeSantis is starting to move like Trump. Trump DeSantis Dream Team
We need him in FL.
When Germany ravaged Norway in 1940 they demanded all teachers join the Nazi union. Most refused. So Hitler shut down the schools. Look at how they’ve tried to shut down our lives, all because we defied them and chose the America First agenda. They’ve made us shut down our businesses. And if you don’t act like a good little sheep and fall in line and get the vaccine they’ll shut down your travel, you’ll be ousted from your job and ostracized in society.
We’re dealing with horrible Nazi’s all over again. Thank you, Royal Caribbean. Hopefully others will follow suit.
Amazing what happens when your plan is winning.
OK…. ‘Royal’….Now Do ALASKA !!!!!
Leadership
Thank you, Gov. DeSantis! Bravo!
Does this mean that airplanes taking off and landing in Florida cannot require vaccine passports, either?
These “rules” should be struck down as unconstitutional. The passports violate freedom of movement and association, they remove the “voluntary consent” necessary for all medical experiments and they also violate federal HIPAA and ADA laws. Not that these fascists give a fig about human rights.
Cruise lines lawyer up and focus on many legal issues we don’t know about.
They legally require your voluntary written consent before they can even ask if you had Covid or vaxx.
Boats are very clean. Sunlight is a sanitizer, Central forced A/C ductwork is the problem. When people get sick on a boat, hundreds get sick. The first boat in Asia where someone got sick and many more infected, the people should have been taken to port and quarantine. I knew the A/C system is a spreader.
I have worn masks in surgery over 10,000 hours.
I have never been or would I go. I enjoyed watching all these ships going by from my uncle’s living room window while visiting him in Pompano Beach Fl.
Glory Be and Hallelujah! Love me some DeSantis. My sister is a Floridian that despises him, too bad, so sad for her.
Miami cruise biz is a complex supply chain with warehouses for supplies, large lodging contracts, shuttle service contractors. Passenger movement is massive. They can’t just move to another port. There are many tickets for air travel that are expensive to move. The 5,000 is a strong signal.
The cruise lines knew they were going to be in hot water if they mandated customers had to be given an experimental non-FDA approved vaccine. Same goes for all the other businesses thinking they can demand it. Everyone of them needs to be threatened with lawsuits. They will back down once challenged. I read Israel and another country are no longer pushing vaccine passports after the pushback.
DeSantis is smart, smooth, and doesn’t back down. The next presidential election can’t come soon enough.
Those pushing fascistic mask mandates, lock downs and vaccinations are bullies.
Note how they back down when confronted.
I like Desantis a lot but that bill he signed a few weeks to fine tech companies for censorship was pitifully weak when you delved down into it. Not the game changer it was hailed as. Still, he’s a lot better than most Governors.
I’m torn, as I would hate to lose him as my Governer.
Onthedrop: Just reelect him in 2022 and don’t worry about it. He can accomplish a great deal in the next three and a half years.
*Future President DeSantis
But mask is still required onboard (except in stateroom only because they can’t go inside to check) and that is the one thing that had me not signing up for cruise, just yet. I love cruises but will wait it out. If I don’t wear mask for flu or cold, I will not wear mask for wuhan virus.
