Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Holy Moses. Its just the way I’m feeling:
Some Certainties in Uncertain Times
By Pastor Ricky Kurth
It is certainly evident that we are living in uncertain economic times. At such times, certain industries fare better than others. For instance, there will always be a need for people to work in the food industry, for people will always need to eat. There will also always be a need for health care workers, since people will also continue to get sick and need health care.
It is equally evident that we are living in uncertain spiritual times. At such times, there will always be a need for Christians who are willing to work to bring the gospel to the lost. There will always be “certain” among the lost who will actively seek salvation (Luke 18:18), but “certain” others will trust in themselves that they are righteous (Luke 18:9), so God’s people will need to reach out to them.
It is also certain that some will continue to oppose Paul’s gospel, “certain” of them opposing it on philosophical grounds (Acts 17:18), “certain” others because they are set in their ways and so naturally resist the new truth that Paul set forth (Acts 15:1).
Who will step up to meet these challenges? In Paul’s day, “a certain disciple… named Timotheus” answered the call (Acts 16:1). How about you, man of God? Why not consider enrolling in our Berean Bible Institute, “that thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed” (Luke 1:4). Then go out and “preach the word” and “do the work of an evangelist” as the Lord would have you do (II Tim. 4:1-5).
When Paul preached in Athens, “certain men clave unto him” (Acts 17:34), just as grace believers have today. But just as “a certain young man named Eutychus” fell asleep when “Paul was long preaching” (Acts 20:9), many long-time grace believers have fallen asleep under the ministry of Pauline teaching. If you fear that describes you, why not wake up and follow the example of “a certain man…named Justus” (Acts 18:7) and “a certain woman named Lydia” (Acts 16:14) who opened their homes to the ministry of Pauline truth and helped establish grace churches in their respective cities.
Many Christians are at a complete loss as to knowing what to do in these uncertain spiritual times, but that doesn’t apply to those who know the certainty of Paul’s gospel. We have the answer to the religious confusion all about us! If you’re not part of the movement that is bringing the solution to these poor confused people, you’re part of the problem.
One thing is sure. “We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out” (I Tim. 6:7). With that in mind, why not begin today to live with eternity in view?

Luke 8:18 ¶ And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
Luke 8:9 ¶ And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
Acts 7:18 Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.
Acts 5:1 ¶ And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
Acts 6:1 ¶ Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:
Luke 1:4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.
2 Timothy 1:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
Acts 17:34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
Acts 20:9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.
Acts 18:7 ¶ And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man’s house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.
Acts 16:14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
1 Timothy 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
Seriously cool. And to think, Joan can get these kinds of performances out of high-school kids! Not only is Joan (Juan) a splendid teacher, he works for one of the most pedagogically sophisticated schools in the world. The US has nothing to compare with what Barcelona can do. Wow. Just wow. . . . Thanks for posting this. 🙂
Have a wonderful Sunday, Treepers. Our Lord smiles on us when we speak to him. Prayer doesn’t have to be formal; you can speak to the Lord just as you would a trusted friend. He’s more than than of course, but he’s always happy to hear from you. Honest.
Yesterday (3/5), I received this interesting article from wisegeek.
Which Fruit Was Vital for the Mass Production of Penicillin?
Last Modified Date: March 05, 2021
The mass-produced penicillin used during World War II originated in a moldy cantaloupe from a market in Peoria, Illinois.
The world owes a great debt of gratitude to a neglectful fruit seller in Peoria, Illinois. Though his or her name is lost to history, the importance of a moldy cantaloupe being sold at the market wasn’t lost on Mary Hunt, a lab assistant who bought the melon and brought it back to work with her.

P.S. Uhhh, this is my first post since we underwent our site revision. It’s a bit of a learning curve. Didn’t expect the font to be as large as it is.
It is only happening on this Open Thread as far as I can tell…not sure why but I am seeing the same thing!
Paging Ad Rem…help!!
How to deal with critters under your house. With the cold snap here in Texas I discovered that my pier-and-beam 92 year old house had become an inviting space for sundry critters to do a little uninvited camping out. I suspect I have a population of roof rats, at least one raccoon, and an itninerant ‘possum who normally lives in or near the garage but who decided to join the under-house commune. All they needed were little tents to resemble camp-outs in Austin.
If you have similar problems I have a few suggestions to share with you. First off all, it’s a really, really good idea to not let sundry critters take up residence under your house. They are dangerous and destructive in all kinds of ways that you really, really don’t want to experience. But how do you get rid of them? The easiest way is to simply call one of the local get-rid-of-critter companies and let them do the work. They’ll generally do a good job, although of course they’ll be expensive. Here’s what to do if you don’t want to go that route.
The first thing to do is check around your house for signs of easy entrance. If you have a pier-and-beam house this is a task that requires regular attention. I thought I’d sealed all the possible access but, on looking the other day, I found that that the raccoons (probably) had torn away some wire and created an access hole. The solution is to close the hole. I have a supply of chicken wire that works well but a secondary problem is that the very last thing you want to do is have an angry racoon or family of angry raccoons destroying the underside of you house in an effort to get out.
The trick here is to think like a hunter. This is exactly what the expensive pest exterminator services do. The first thing to know is that the critters under your house are nocturnal—they sleep by day and hunt for food at night.
Here’s what I just did tonight. I’d identified the hole in my wire netting where the raccoons and other pests were getting in. I checked surrounding possible access routs and made sure they were covered with chicken wire. I left the most obvious entrance hole open. Then, just about dusk, I put some newspaper outside the hole . . . and waited. Starting about dusk I noticed that the paper had been disturbed. I replaced it and began checking every 30 minutes or so. I did this three time until about 7:30 when I went several hours without seeing the paper disturbed. This means, I hope, that all the critters were out looking for food. So my target time for sealing the hole tomorrow night will be 7:30. I’ll put down news paper again, wait until the critters are gone . . . then seal the hole more secure chicken wire. I’ve done this many times over the years and it always works . . . until it doesn’t and then you have to repeat the critter-hunter strategy. Good luck. And good hunting.
s
Put in thin gauge chicken wire or metal screen. Attach it only at the top with an appropriate weight, considering the size and weight of the critters, at the bottom. When they exit under the wire they can’t get back in. This one way door set up works for bats in the attic. Could work for your problem and eliminate the worry about trapping the critters inside.
If you have a skunk problem, large quantities of Lutefisk placed under house cures that. Still trying to figure out how to get rid of the Swedes. ;0
Diggers in the ground like woodchucks and Norway rats cannot dig through small pieces of broken window glass mixed in the substrate, best made in a metal garbage can.
Great where you cannot just use concrete, due to location or expense. Mix with fine crushed stone if you have a lot of holes to fill in.
Steel wool also works. At the corner of my pass door to my detached garage a critter had chewed a hole to get in, Before I patched the hole I stuffed it with steel wool. In the years since, no critter has even tried to get through there.
Oh, yes. I have done that in attached garage, were baseboard heating pipes go through walls.
I was thinking more of outdoor applications.
For both inside the crawl space and out, moth balls repel about everything, including spiders.
I’m a huge fan of Lyle Lovett. If you’ve never attended one of his concerts with his Large Band you really should go see him perform. He puts on quite a show—usually a good two hours of straight head great music. A few years ago now, he put together a double album set of music by Texas song writers. Looking back at it over the past few years it’s clear that what he did is an amazing accomplishment. “Step Inside This House” is the name of the double CD. It’s still available, I think, from the usual sources. If you like Lyle’s music, you’ll really like this CD. Here’s a great selection from “Step Inside This House” . . .
Garrison ,
I have seen Lyle with his Large Band in a Smaller Venue in Seattle ,, Absolutely the Very Best !!!
…….just me upon my Pony on my Boat ……. ?
🙂 He definitely puts on a good show.
I have seen Lyle Lovett live and he was wonderful, such a perfectionist performer. We waited 45 minutes while he and his band got every instrument perfectly in tune, then the performance began. Really was a great show, consummate performer.

From back when cartoons were worth watching.
Vincent Alexander on Twitter: “THREAD: Lots of us learned classical music from watching old cartoons, so I’m going to identify the pieces that frequently popped up. Those in the heartland to those in New England. Don’t let this period of descent weather lull you into believing winter is over. Old Man winter, like Hitler did in 1944, is going to launch one more great offensive and we have another bulge of cold and snow coming. So don’t be putting your winter warmies and snow shovels away just yet.
After this last shot then most of us should be out of the winter woods and seasonable or warmer than average temps should prevail.
OH, and BTW, expect this summer to be much warmer than the last few. And though I have already said this, I will reiterate because the long range forecast still holds, this years tornado and hurricane seasons are almost certainly going to be more active than average.
And I just took the snow tires off
Just stay home? Fortunately, you may have avoided the snow-tire-removel rush!
UNDAUNTED RADIANCE
“Nay, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.” Romans viii. 37
Paul is speaking of the things that might seem likely to separate or wedge in between the saint and the love of God; but the remarkable thing is that nothing CAN wedge in between the love of God and the saint. These things can and do come in between the devotional exercises of the soul and God and separate individual life from God; but none of them is able to wedge in between the love of God and the soul of the saint. The bedrock of our Christian faith is the unmerited, fathomless marvel of the love of God exhibited on the Cross of Calvary, a love we never can and never shall merit. Paul says this is the reason we are more than conquerors in all these things, super-victors, with a joy we would not have but for the very things which look as if they are going to overwhelm us.
The surf that distresses the ordinary swimmer produces in the surf-rider the super-joy of going clean through it. Apply that to our own circumstances, these very things – tribulation, distress, persecution, produce in us the super-joy; they are not things to fight. We are more than conquerors through Him IN all these things, not in spite of them, but in the midst of them. The saint never knows the joy of the Lord in spite of tribulation, but BECAUSE of it – “I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation,” says Paul.
Undaunted radiance is not built on anything passing, but on the love of God that nothing can alter. The experiences of life, terrible or monotonous, are impotent to touch the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Scenes Beyond the Grave – Marietta Davis
Chapter XVI – Address of the False Philosopher (Marietta visits Hell)
16:2
“What dost thou see, Marietta? Abandon thy thoughts of the empty Religion of the Bible, and behold the wonders of this sphere of existence. This is the Second Sphere. Around thee gather minds from the varied spheres of Earth, minds whose strength of intellect could not yield to the force of an imaginary religion. They were not awed into reverence by the priestly garb, nor sang the idle notes of psalmody, the heartless ‘music’ of the church.”
“These sing of nature, of which they are a noble part; and thus united, ascend the octave of mental progressive harmony.”
Here the spirit addressing me became greatly annoyed; and the nebulous appearance which encompassed him was agitated under the influence of successive shocks, which caused his very being to convulse and writhe beneath its influence. I could not perceive whence they came, and was greatly terrified, as I saw the whole scene changed at every successive touch, which was attended with flashes like broad sheets of lurid light, playing upon the cloud-like form which enveloped him.
I could also perceive that he was intensely struggling to overcome some power which was about to control him. Every energy was exerted to its highest capacity, to roll back the tide that was overwhelming him. Suddenly he groaned, as in the bitterness of one sinking to irremediable despair, and then yielded to the intrusive influence, when, lo! a vast arena opened to my view, in which I saw at one glance every imaginable species of vice, forms and fashions of human society, government, clans and all the varied phases and forms of worship, originating in every kind of religion, from the heathen to fashionable church-going people, who heartlessly worship under the name of the holy Religion of the Cross.

Livestreamed by the fabulous Baklykov. Live channel on youtube, from St. Petersburg, Russia….
” “Feel Yourself Russian” is a folk show at Nicholas Palace of St Petersburg which represents the history and cultural traditions of Russia.
Classical quartet is playing lovely melodies of the 18th century, two stunning ladies in crinolines and a handsome gentleman in a wig (ballet trio “Reverence”) are welcoming guests at the Gala stairs of the Palace like a guests of the Grand Duke! The folk show itself is represented with 3 professional folk groups. Classical performance of folk songs, lyrical romances and Russian Orthodox hymns.
“Maidan” is a Cossack song-and-dance group formed in 1992. The name of the group gets its origin from the place, where all Cossacks used to assemble in older times and where decisions were made “by the whole world”. The group skillfully reproduces on stage Cossack songs and dances in their original form.
The “Stars of St.Petersburg” is a dance group. The dancers are graduated from leading schools of choreography in Russia. It’s delightful to see that not EVERY nation on this planet HATES ITSELF as the US does.
Enjoy!
What if Jesus, in his glory, came to America? Walked the streets of say San Francisco? Or took a stroll through the capital while they were all in session? Any capital.
In revelations there is a description! Revelations 6:16. Desiring the mountains to fall on them.
You see when you die and leave your body you are without hinderance. If the lord was your love, you move to heaven. If you repel the lord, hell.
But, in a body you can’t find relief from his righteousness while his presence is near. (Why Christians are hated and killed)
“Will I dance or will I fall?”
When angels appear to men, they fall like dead men, unable to move or speak.
Can that be us today? Can Gods glory change our nation? Yes!
The glory of God brings revival, repentance, it is abrupt, and violent in its cleansing.
All those ‘desires’ are illuminated within a man, his ‘loves’ are laid bare. You do have a choice to leave anything unworthy.
I know many of you have experienced it individually, it transforms your life.
And, once experienced you chase it “like a deer panteth after water” that’s good because that is the path to God, to heaven.
Our prayer is selfless, “Lord May your glory rest on us all, on America, on
the people of this nation.”
Good morning, God Bless America. 🙂

Watch dogs, that aren’t dogs.
In Germany during the cold war the US SAM sites had high double fences around them. Between the fences they ran geese. Excellent early warning. I know, because my teams was tasked with testing the security at one of those sites.
Mules and Donkeys are some of best watch dogs a person can have. They really let you know when something is amiss and Mules are also great at defense. Bob Cats and Lynx don’t have a chance and even cougars are generally wary of them once they have had their first contact. About a 1/4 of a mile away from my house a couple has several horses and a donkey. I can hear that donkey and can tell when it is giving a warning.
Two houses down they raise their own chickens and their Rooster will let everyone know when any animal approaches their pen/roost.
Geese are fearless
Been whacked a few times with their wings and nipped too not fun.

Pandemic Blunder book link: Book project took six months.
Next column: medical history sanctified early action for illness and disease
Follow the science: myth or mandate? Recent national news was that just two out of 50 states were opening up completely – Texas and Mississippi. Others were maintaining various degrees of lockdowns, school closings, masking and small business limitations, for example. Can solid medical science explain such pandemic management diversity?
Are public health professionals following science or are politicians using their own judgments for public health decisions? If genuine, verifiable science was being used to determine what is done safely to protect the public, then major variations seen in the past year among states and local jurisdictions confuse people, seem irrational and cut confidence in government.
Reasonably, Americans are moving to other states that have safely opened up their societies more. Considerable evidence from a prestigious research group and from Stanford University have shown that onerous lockdowns have not produced better pandemic outcomes and do not curb viral spread. Many negative health outcomes stem from harsh lockdowns, like skipping cancer screenings and suicides among kids locked out of schools.
With pandemic wisdom, people go where they will suffer the least from both the COVID virus and draconian clampdowns on the economy and individual freedoms. Unlike so many of their “leaders,” they are literally following the science. And will not likely believe most future claims that science is being followed.

…Something wonderful
I guess it wasn’t wonderful enough to link to this weekend. Oh well.
So, How about something from Ace:
When I checked my MSN newsfeed this morning 3 out of the 33 featured stories were “Fauci says” stories.
It is abundantly clear that the scare is wearing thin and they know it. So Fauci is out there singing his
song of doom to all that will listen, trying to prop things up,
This is Orthodox Christian Sunday of the Last Judgment.
On this day we commemorate the day of the Second Coming of Christ.
Yesterday was the Saturday of Souls in memory of all those who have fallen asleep, reposed, in piety.
This day is also known as Meatfare Sunday because it is the last day, or farewell, to eating meat until the Great Feast of the Lord’s Pascha.
Judgment Sunday
Kontakion
“When Thou, O God, wilt come to earth with glory, and all things tremble, and the river of fire floweth before the Judgment Seat, and the books are opened and the hidden things made public, then deliver me from the unquenchable fire, and deem me worthy to stand at Thy right hand, O most righteous Judge.”
Republicans chasing down vote fraud.
Did Sundance put up a really heavy essay on our slip-sliding into elites- serfs and then pull it? Like the pancake recipe? I needed to read it two or three more times.
Scotch is my only vice.
What? When did this happen and how long was it up? I never saw anything?
Maybe 6 to 7:30, VM. I was about ready to comment that his elegant writing could be condensed into “There are some people out there that think their being is so much more important than the deplorable beings that they can excuse any of their actions.”
And what happened to word-wrap?
Must not have been up for long…I didn’t see it but am now VERY curious. Any other Treepers have any input? If there was another pancake post I would definitely like to get that recipe!
And yeah, something odd happened to the font size but only on the Open Thread?

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and his family as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
