Gospel
Jesus took Peter, James, and John
and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them,
and his clothes became dazzling white,
such as no fuller on earth could bleach them.
Then Elijah appeared to them along with Moses,
and they were conversing with Jesus.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Rabbi, it is good that we are here!
Let us make three tents:
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified.
Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them;
from the cloud came a voice,
“This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”
Suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone
but Jesus alone with them.
As they were coming down from the mountain,
he charged them not to relate what they had seen to anyone,
except when the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
So they kept the matter to themselves,
questioning what rising from the dead meant.

Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well with my soul
My sin – oh, the bliss of this glorious thought
My sin, not in part but the whole
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
It is well with my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul
It is well with my soul (with my soul)
It is well, it is well with my soul
God’s mercy is upon those who trust in God.
Bishop Barron’s commentary on today’s gospel.
SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT
MARK 9:2–10
Friends, today’s Gospel presents the Transfiguration of Christ. What is the Transfiguration itself? Mark speaks literally of a metamorphosis, a going beyond the form that he had. If I can use Paul’s language, it is “the knowledge of the glory of God on the face of Jesus Christ.” In and through his humble humanity, his divinity shines forth. The proximity of his divinity in no way compromises the integrity of his humanity, but rather makes it shine in greater beauty. This is the New Testament version of the burning bush.
The Jesus who is both divine and human is the Jesus who is evangelically compelling. If he is only divine, then he doesn’t touch us; if he is only human, he can’t save us. His splendor consists in the coming together of the two natures, without mixing, mingling, or confusion.
This same Jesus then accompanies his disciples back down the mountain and walks with them in the ordinary rhythms of their lives. This is the Christ who wants to reign as Lord of our lives in every detail. If we forget about this dimension, then Jesus becomes a distant memory, a figure from the past.
Reflect: How does the reality of the Transfiguration and the Resurrection give you hope?
?. Such a beautiful reflection.
Thank you, Managerie, for sharing Bishop Barron’s reflection.
Michael Voris, church militant you tube. Speaks of Bishop Barron..check it out.
We happen to disagree. I am aware of what Voris and the trads think.
I’m a Trad, myself, and alas, Michael Voris knows how to burn bridges and create enemies. Not all Trads are that way, of course. Alas that every Trad doesn’t have the humor and good will of the amazing St. Philip Neri, who lived from 1515 to 1595. He was beloved for his kindness, good humor, and for being like Socrates, actually, able to start up conversations with people on the street and lead them to a better life. He used to like to say, “Well, brothers, when shall we begin to do good?”
St. Philip Neri was able, praise God, to “transfigure” the thoughts of average, everyday folks out to just get through the day, and support their families and who wouldn’t have — in the normal course of events — given much thought to religion. I always try to keep St. Philip in mind whenever discussing religion with anyone, and especially in faith seasons like Lent.

No one REALLY dies…
Our bodies expire but our Spirits are eternal…
We know Jesus is alive and well after His death and resurrection, but we ALSO know that mere mortals who have died are ALIVE also….
They were speaking to ,and advising, our Lord about his upcoming trial and death. Which means THEY were able to see things from a Heavenly perspective!
This lets us KNOW that those who have “died” aren’t spiritually dead…
No one is “spiritually” dead until our Lord wills it so at the final Judgement! That is what He meant when He spoke of “the second death”!
A favourite hymn for this day and Transfiguration Sunday.

Emulate the tiny ant; be an ant of God. Listen to the word of God and hide it in your heart. Collect plenty of food during the happy days of your spiritual summers.
You will then be able to endure the difficult days of temptation during the winters of your soul.
St. Augustine, Sermon 38,6.
Profound words during this time. This Lent offers us an opportunity to reflect on what we have allowed to happen to Our Country. May God have mercy on us.
Found in the bin…. 🙁
Thank you Menagerie!
God be with you and your beautiful family!
Almighty God, look on the humble desires of your servants. Stretch forth the right hand of your majesty and be our sure defense; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
Gives me a “living hope”, and a sure anchor of my soul. It gives me the assurance that even if my service to him goes unnoticed and/or disparaged by others, that my Father will vindicate me at Resurrection, because it will be widely revealed that He is Just, and the justifier of him who believes on The Son! ?.
WOW…..
They, to a degree, now bore what Jesus was bearing.
They knew something –for certain– that no others could truly imagine.
Yet, they would come to really know
~only after the Resurrection.
What a gift!
To witness –to know; without really knowing !!!
Yet, what burdensome confusion of multiple levels… (sigh)
What a perfect method of teaching; actually
I wonder what Jesus, Moses, and Elijah were conversing about…
