Here the story blurs. Some say Mrs. Mann loaned General Houston the oxen under the condition they be returned by a certain time where others say they were borrowed on the condition the General took the guns to Nacogdoches the route to Louisiana, NOT to Harrisburg and certainly not to San Jacinto where there was fighting. Either way, when Miss Mann learned which way the army was heading she armed herself with a pair of pistols & a bowie knife and went after them.
Eyewitness Robert Hunter said Mrs. Mann rode up to General Houston and said,
“General, you tole me a dam lie. Sir, I want my oxen.”
At the time, Houston’s cannons were bogged down in a prairie wallow, and the General pointed out he could not move them without the oxen. To this, Pamelia Mann responded,
“I don’t care a dam for your cannon. I want my oxen.”
Houston cried angrily;
“Madam, don’t irritate me,”. In response, Pamela Mann whipped out a pistol and her bowie knife and said;
“Irritate the devil. I am going to have my oxen.”
She cut the Oxen from their traces and drove them off.
General Houston’s men watched this performance in stunned silence. As Mr. Hunter reported,
“No body said a word as Mrs. Mann jumped on her horse and herded her oxen away”.
Later, the army’s wagon master, Mr. Conrad Rohrer, protested, saying they needed the oxen to move the cannons. He went after the oxen and returned hours later, his shirt ragged and tattered. When questioned why he’d returned without the oxen, he replied,
“She would not let me have them.”
When the soldiers asked Mr. Rohrer;
“What happened to your shirt?”
He replied;
“She needed it for baby rags.”
So ended Sam Houston’s defeat. Fortunately for Texas, he fared better against General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna.
I believe this has been the mission of CTH all along. I really see this as simply continuing on.

Yes. There’s a cumulative impact from the never-ending limitations to normal activities.
For what it’s worth: I’ve found it useful to make a distinction between isolation and solitary. (I’m in solitary in Oregon) Because of email, Skype, and telephone I do not have to feel or live isolated. However, I also find that exercising the effort to prevent a sense of isolation requires discipline. As I shared with my brother recently, my regular Skype contact with a Minnesota friend is both luxury and discipline.
There is, very often, little I can do about others’ actions; however, I do have the opportunity, ability, and some learned skills with regard to my response. Not preaching at you, M. Mover…..just sharing my thoughts about lessons learned. And I do not always apply those lessons effectively–not at all.
You may want to step back and turn it all off for 24 hours. It’ll be here when you are able to step back into the House again and then, if you want, you can sort of stand near the door in case you want to pop back out for a bit. For what it’s worth – in terms of endurance, don’t require something of yourself that is not workable right now.

re #1: I interpret stewardship to mean the careful and responsible management and planning for a group or a community. A great stewardship role CTH can play is helping Treepers around the country and around the world to connect. Not just here on the website, but in our towns and neighborhoods. As 2.0 continues to evolve (and it will, now that you’re free), creating “communities” within CTH would be a worthy addition. CTH ensures that community leaders buy-into the 5 principles above, and the community leaders build their local neighborhood, town, city and state Treehouses to keep everyone connected locally.
A huge vacuum for us that needs to be filled is a trustworthy source of information about local initiatives, community events, rallies, etc. Here in Colorado, the “Recall Polis” initiative was intentionally diluted by posers, fakers, or just too many people demanding to be in charge. If they want the CTH seal of approval, they would need to consolidate, show organizational discipline, and filter out the Democrat/Uniparty-run fakers intended to dilute money and support. I don’t know precisely HOW to do it, but I know local footprints are needed and they should be somewhat limited in number. Why limit it? The Tea Party Problem: the Tea Party (MAGA now) keeps getting coopted because we don’t have a filtering mechanism to keep out the posers and the kooks. The 5 principles above serve a tremendously important purpose: filtering.
This would go a very long way towards helping people to Walk Away from the status quo of D.C.-centered politics, the usual fraudulent games, the utterly fake news, the contemptible “public servants”, and focus on our communities, our families, and our friends and neighbors.
People ask me “what comes next?” I think what comes next is similar to what Rush Limbaugh described – a cultural secession. We walk away from the people who hate us. They lose a lot of power over us when we no longer pay them more than passing attention. When you’re free, really free, that stuff has a lot less power over you. It’s like paying off your mortgage and getting out of debt. When you don’t owe anybody anything, there’s not much if anything they can do to you.
Part of getting free means walking away from what has become a cancerous, dysfunctional, cesspool of modern society: the media (including a lot of “our” media which doesn’t serve us well), social media (especially Twitter/Facebook), and the usual bullshit games played by the Uniparty. They only have power if we agree to play along.
Everything around this election is going to start to collapse in the coming days. The court cases will continue to be tossed for standing or too late or too soon or just moot. Those hoping for a shooting/insurgent war are not going to get their wish. It’s time to walk away.

They issue licenses, building codes, pay the police, give orders to the military, issue tax bills, lock us up for failing to obey orders, etc. We can’t walk away from them.
