Monday October 12th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

I have a copy of the original CD of this, 1986 release on Attic Records, ACDM 1227. I bought it in the late 1990’s, most likely mail order from Mapleshade. I also have “The Hunter”, ACD 1334, (1992), also on Attic.

I have sent links to song or two from “The Hunter” to my friend Shannon. Most of the time Shannon only gets links to hymns or gospel songs from me:

      Ephesians 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Warnes goes back to the 70s for me. “Right Time of the Night” comes to mind as one of her more popular numbers. I knew she was connected to Leonard Cohen, but I didn’t follow them much back then.

I always thought her voice was a slightly richer, slightly lower pitched and more sultry version of Linda Ronstadt….

  9. If we want a couple of hours of full-throated , red-blooded , All-American joy – we go to watch Tom Cruise in Top Gun – The Sequel. Great fun.
Notice that the leather jacket Tom Cruise is wearing has some flags on it , no Japanese or Taiwanese flags though , the Chinese Communist Party demanded those be removed – so they were dutifully removed, of course.
Other than that – let us enjoy a moment of American Exceptionalism.

    Precious Heritage

    By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

The book, We Americans, published by the National Geographic Society in 1976, depicts a family of eight early settlers, four of whom are holding Bibles in their hands. The caption opens with the words: “Book of books, the Bible, was the end and means of the education of early Americans.”

This is confirmed by the Encyclopaedia Britannica, which declares that “The New England Primer… for 150 years widely used as a textbook, was largely composed of Scriptural and doctrinal material. Catechisms were taught in the public schools and prayer was offered twice a day” (EB under School and Curriculum in the United States).

This does not mean that all our Revolutionary forefathers were saved, or regenerated by personal faith in Christ, but the evidence is abundant that they were, as a whole, God-fearing men, and this was bound to have a significant effect on their thinking and their conduct. And, indeed, there were among them many born-again believers.

Revolutionary times conjure up in our minds such pictures as Washington praying earnestly at Valley Forge, the members of Congress kneeling together in prayer for divine guidance, and the precepts of Scripture being pressed home again and again by those high in government, while the citizens in general trembled at God’s Word.

It goes without saying that our nation plays a strategic role in the affairs of the world. Our influence is great. However, America will not again exert the right kind of influence in the world until the Church of Christ recovers from her spiritual illness and our national leaders and the populace once more become at least God-fearing. The fear of God does not in itself save from sin’s penalty, but it is the first step toward salvation. Moreover, God’s Word declares:

“By the fear of the Lord men depart from evil” (Prv. 16:6).
    – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Proverbs 16:6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

    Thirteen Colonies, Thirteen Epistles

    By Justin Johnson

On July 4th, 1776, the Constitution of the United States did not yet exist. There was not yet any Bill of Rights. The Articles of Confederation had not yet been drawn up. The thirteen colonies of America were completely free.

In America, Independence day is the anniversary of when thirteen colonies unanimously declared their freedom as independent States from Great Britain. Underneath the throne of the British sovereign was believed to be the very stone that Jacob slept on at Bethel (Gen 28:19).

Many believed the British empire to be God’s kingdom on earth, and for some, having the stone of Jacob representing God’s house on earth proved it.

If God is working through any one nation today then he is not working through the church the Body of Christ, which has no national boundaries (Col 3:11). Those who thought the British empire was God’s empire were rejecting how God works in the dispensation of the grace of God.

Every place that rejects God’s grace, the rejection of freedom naturally follows.

    America’s Declared Independence

When the Americans declared independence they were standing against any perceived divine institution in the British crown.

America was populated, among others, by seekers of religious freedom who did not require any authority from Jacob’s stone (called the Stone of Destiny) under Britain’s throne.

The descendents of those religious dissidents signed the Declaration of Independence.

They rejected the idea that Britain was God’s nation to rule the world as revived Israel. They stood on a right to be free from the rules, contracts, and boundaries of the English empire.

Though most of the American independents did not fully understand the gospel of the grace of God, they declared unanimously that God was dispensing liberty to all men.

    Our Declaration of God’s Grace

Similarly, two thousand years ago Paul made a declaration of independence in his thirteen epistles.

According to the dispensation of God’s grace, God offered salvation independent from Israel’s laws, covenants, and boundaries. The gospel of God’s grace is salvation in liberty.

Inspired by the Holy Spirit, Paul declared the fall of the only nation God ever ordained, Israel, and declared salvation to all the world by God’s grace without distinction.

Where grace reigned, there was liberty (Rom 5:21; Gal 5:1). Where the dispensation of the grace of God was rejected, people were put back under the bondage of Jacob’s sons and Israel’s laws (Gal 2:4; Gal 4:9; Gal 5:1-4).

Paul taught that Christ made us free. If to live is Christ, then if we cannot live free in Christ, then to die is gain (Phil 1:21). Without liberty, wherewith Christ hath made us free, Christ died in vain (Gal 2:21), and our own life in Christ is vain (1 Cor 15:14).

Only within the framework of God’s grace does it make sense to cry “give me liberty or give me death”! Where God’s grace is rejected, so is liberty. Liberty stands where God’s grace is preached. m

    Thank God for His Grace

The pure preaching of God’s grace by Paul was short lived in church history as many began to turn away from him during his own lifetime (2 Tim 4:15). Liberty in the church became hidden under apostolic tradition, centralized church authority, religious politics, and ideas about being spiritual Israel.

Likewise, the American declaration was short lived, as American’s own rejection of God’s grace led to more and more laws, manifest destiny, expansion of powers, and the eventual degradation of freedom.

Freedom is a grace doctrine. Preaching the grace of God is preaching liberty in Christ Jesus. If liberty is to be preserved so must the pure preaching of God’s grace.

A celebration of true independence in our country that began with thirteen colonies should start with a celebration of the liberty granted us in Christ first recorded in Paul’s thirteen epistles.

Thank God for freedom, thank God for his dispensation of grace through Jesus Christ our Lord.

    USA’s Covenant with God

    By Justin Johnson

What’s that? You didn’t know God made a covenant with America? Apparently you have not seen the yard signs. If he doesn’t have a covenant, at least he has a pretty good commercial deal.

This Fourth of July USA Christian Ministries wants to lead our covenanted people in the prayer below hoping that God will uphold his part of the bargain.

Yet, I don’t think God is that gullible.

    One Nation Chosen by God

God has gone on record in the Bible as covenanting with only one nation. Unfortunately, that nation was not west of the Atlantic. USA Christian wants to claim a blessing for America through Psalm 33:12:

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” – Psalm 33:12

To find out the blessed and chosen nation we only need to skip to the end of the same book to find out:

“For the LORD hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure. “ – Psalm 135:4

“He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel. He hath not dealt so with any nation…” – Psalm 147:19-20

God never made a covenant with the USA. God’s covenants were always made with Israel. It is doctrinally devious to usurp the unique position of Israel, created by God, for a nation created merely by men.

Yet it is common for evangelical Christians to call America the “my people” in 2 Chronicles 7:14, and make the church today the “holy nation” of 1 Peter 2:9 and Exodus 19:6.

    Mercy to All Nations

Making America God’s covenanted nation must be quite an insult to Christians in other countries who would just as much like it if God made a special deal with them. The reality is that no nation on the planet today has a covenant foothold with God:

“For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.” – Romans 11:32

For the past 2000 years God has left off working through any one nation and has instead been offering forgiveness to all men freely through the gospel of Christ. This is called the ministry of reconciliation, and it is performed by ambassadors of a foreign dominion, not citizens of an earthly nation (2 Cor 5:18-20).

Covenant prayers like the ones from USA Christian Ministries can only hope and plead for forgiveness based upon their obedience to God’s commandments, just as Israel when they knew nothing of the mystery of Christ revealed later to Paul.

Be reconciled to God and realize that God has already forgiven you in Christ Jesus through his redeeming blood (Eph 4:32, Eph 1:7). It is Christ that gives you liberty and makes you free, not a national document or covenant (Gal 5:1).

The gospel of Christ working in those that believe is the cure for our national ills. The Bible rightly divided is the cure to the doctrinal mess made by covenant prayers for America.

God Shed His Grace on Thee

    By Justin Johnson

120 years ago an English teacher, Katharine Lee Bates, wrote a poem about the beauty of America’s skies, pilgrims, heroes, and patriots. Everyone knows the song as sung by Ray Charles.

What you may not know is that the lyrics were put to the tune of an old hymn called “O Mother Dear, Jerusalem“. Samuel Ward wrote the music, but the words had been around for centuries.

America the Beautiful became more popular than the hymn about the heavenly Jerusalem, and its lyrics of “purple mountains majesty” and “amber waves of grain” evoked greater sentiment than the shining “turrets” and “carbuncles” of an unseen Jerusalem.

Like many hymns about Jerusalem, the writer wrongly confused the church, the body of Christ, with Israel and her earthly promises. Perhaps replacing Jerusalem with America in a national hymn was symbolic of American covenantalists wrongly replacing Israel with America from the pulpit.

Nevertheless, we can join Bates in singing about what our country needs more than anything else: “God shed his grace on thee.”

What will bring salvation and good change to this country is God’s grace, not better candidates and better laws.

This salvation and change by grace starts in our churches, and the duty to bring about this change belongs to God’s ambassadors of grace. Just as America’s heroes, the church needs men “who more than self their Lord be loved” and can “see beyond the years” to pledge their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to preaching the gospel of the grace of God.

God’s grace needs be preached from sea to shining sea. It is apparent we have much work to do.

Below are modified lyrics from the old hymn about Jerusalem written for a new band of soldiers of God’s grace setting their affections on things above. It is sung to the same tune as you in America the Beautiful.

O Christ do Thou my soul prepare
    For that bright home of love;
That I may see Thee and adore,
    With all Thy saints above.

My Lord, my God, my happy home
Would God I were with thee!
Would God my woes were at an end
Thy joys that I might see!

    Apostles, martyrs, prophets there
    Around my Savior stand;
And soon my friends in Christ below
    Will join the glorious band.

    America! America!
God’s grace be shed on thee,
    Of Christ alone, salvation shown
    From sea to shining sea

I just wanted to share something with you guys. I’m catching up with everything after a long trip home and stuff, and I see a lot of negativity concerning the Denver stuff and trying to warn people to not see things through a political filter when it comes to when you can use a gun and that who is the aggressor answers the question of who is the criminal, and having to explain how these people like Antifa think and why they are “so mean” or whatever and trying to explain that they are “patriots”, for the wrong cause. And it is just as easy for all of us to become patriots for the wrong cause.

It’s well and good to be a patriot, but a patriot for what will determine if you are the “good guy” or the “bad guy”. And eventually you will know it. Anyways, here was my response to someone, and I hope it helps you in your patriotism:

“He (the Denver shooter) was itching for it. In his mind he is a patriot for whatever thing he believes in. Could be communism. Could be one of a dozen bizarre ideologies floating around with made-up complicated names some asshole taught him to believe in.

Some day he is going to figure it out. Some day he is going to figure out he murdered a good guy.

I do not put this lightly, and I will even say I put it as a warning to all of us. Don’t lose sight of our principles. Our principles founded in blood at the birth of our nation, guided now by a Constitution written by the leaders left over from that fight.

Because the wellspring of our own willingness to fight and sacrifice and all of it, is exactly what these commie bastard professors have tapped into with guys like this.

It may repel you to read that, and think “nah he is just some idiot sick guy”, but no. A patriot is a patriot. Whether he is good or evil depends on who and what he is patriotic for.

Objectively, without a doubt, the Constitution of the United States of America, the American People, and the belief in Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, the belief that all rights come from God and not Man, and that within each man exists a Manifest Destiny (not some weird floating woman heading west) to be greater than what he (or she) came into this world as, and that all men (and women) are created Equal, that all shall be equal under the law, that all shall be assessed by their character and not their race or creed or color, and that America as Founded is a great nation, a shining beacon on a hill, a place that can always be better, and will always be made better because it is made by people who strive always to be better and that the American People are a Family, and when you believe in patriotism and love of your American Family, there is no room for hate in your heart, is something you believe and are patriotic about, then you are a good guy. Every phrase is positive. Nobody is blamed for anything in any of those statements. It is all about being good as a person, and spreading that goodness wherever you go and with everything you do.

If you are patriotic about destructive ideologies that are manufactured by intellectuals to conserve power for an elite few. Well, you are a bad guy. And at some point you are destined to realize it. Because if you are the one doing the killing or the violence in its name, you will eventually be tossed aside. Because at no point were you destined to inherit any of the rewards. Those who work for evil always find out, before the end.

    Barring freak accidents I suppose.”

“Enoch walked with God.” Genesis v. 24

The test of a man’s religious life and character is not what he does in the exceptional moments of life, but what he does in the ordinary times, when there is nothing tremendous or exciting on. The worth of a man is revealed in his attitude to ordinary things when he is not before the footlights (cf. John i. 36). It is a painful business to get through into the stride of God, it means getting your second wind spiritually. In learning to walk with God there is always the difficulty of getting into His stride; but when we have got into it, the only characteristic that manifests itself is the life of God. The individual man is lost sight of in his personal union with God, and the stride and the power of God alone are manifested.

It is difficult to get into stride with God, because when we start walking with Him we find He has outstripped us before we have taken three steps. He has different ways of doing things, and we have to be trained and disciplined into His ways. It was said of Jesus – “He shall not fail nor be discouraged,” because He never worked from His own individual standpoint but always from the standpoint of His Father, and we have to learn to do the same. Spiritual truth is learned by atmosphere, not by intellectual reasoning. God’s Spirit alters the atmosphere of our way of looking at things, and things begin to be possible which never were possible before. Getting into the stride of God means nothing less than union with Himself. It takes a long time to get there, but keep at it. Don’t give in because the pain is bad just now, get on with it, and before long you will find you have a new vision and a new purpose.

This is a thought I tried posting yesterday on Daily Thread and Presidential Politics, but it never got posted for unknown reasons. I will try again here in this day because I think it beneficial.

Don’t underestimate the importance of the concept of “PROJECTION”. For those who aren’t aware, Projection is the action of accusing your enemies of what you are doing. “Almost every allegation the Left makes against the Right is Projection.” It explains a lot. Projection is a political strategy of winning for your side through devious, corrupt and evil means. It’s origin is unknown but has been attributed to such men as Marx or Saul Alinski, However, Hillary and Bill Clinton first used it as a practical strategy to both destroy their opposition and defend themselves from actually doing what they falsely accused their opponents of doing. We can learn a lot about those who use this political strategy, simply by being aware of when it is being deployed. And as an added bonus, those who use this strategy show us that they also are aware of their own corrupt wrongdoing. They show their own guilt in actually committing the very sins they falsely accused the other side of doing. To understand how corrupt they are when they use such a technique, one only has to listen to how they view the ramifications of the action(s) when that falsely accused their opposition. This technique was used sparingly 20 plus yrs ago by the Clinton’s making it difficult to see when it was being deployed. However today, one can find evidence of the strategy being used quite frequently by simply reviewing the various headlines of various articles throughout the media. The Left is overwhelmingly employing this devious strategy and it’s easy to see when you look for it. I am certain serious and objective academics if so motivated, could find this strategy employed by the Left consistently for most important political issues during and since the Clinton Adninistration. If they did so and were to make a detailed list of such occurrences detailing the particulars of how our citizenry has been manipulated throughout the years in thwarting the truth in various issues which came to light, I’m fairly positive that objective citizenry would be outraged. Anyone game out there to look into this other kind of “Rabitt Hole”?

    – Michael Moore stated that overturning roe vs wade is an act of violence. Here, Roe v Wade obviously permits the violent act of abortion, not it’s overturning.
    – Biden accuses Republicans of distraction when they ask his position on packing the Supreme Court. Even worse, they accuse Republicans of packing the Supreme Court by nominating and confirming a conservative candidate before the election implying it’s unconstitutional, when it is anything other than that.
    – Russian Collusion: It was Hillary All Along
    – Biden accuses Trump of not accepting the results of the future election. Trump says no such thing. He is silent on this regard. In not answering the questiin, Trump is protecting his options should he find that the Left has stolen the election. Yet, regardless of what Biden claims, the Democrats are the ones who will not accept the results if they show Trump to be the winner. Thru their various actions re mail balloting issues and comments, they show their intent to steal the election.

Next time we see an article where the Left accuses the opposition of what they are doing, let’s remember that they are practicing the very devious strategy of Projection. Explain it to the Sheeple if you can and care to as well.

Reading today on love! Not the love you may recognize but is all you are, for you are love. Created in love by love, to love, energized, empowered, animated by love.
Your primary ‘love’ is what motivates you in life (life is eternal never forget that) every aspect of life is motivated by your ‘love’. If your ‘love’ is for our lord, which is the highest of aspirations, your life is always pointed towards heaven. If your ‘love’ is for self, life is turned from our lord. Our ‘love’ is what attracts us to others, or all things in our life. In this you can see it would also repel us from others or from issues not fulfilling that ‘love. The absence of our lord is hell.

A question for everyone is….what is your primary ‘love’? A mondo for you this day!
Finding that answer means unveiling and understanding who you are. Being honest with yourself is mandatory, just that part alone is enlightening, it is our true nature.
Your ‘love’ has many parts, subordinates as it were. Loves that flow from your primary ‘love’, in that our attributes are formed, personalities. Just like a drop of water on a hillside, it can choose many paths, so we are formed in that ‘love’.

    Why would this matter?
When we leave this world there will be no shelter for or from this ‘love’ it is who we are. Our spirit will be free to, unhindered follow that desire. The Bible is an instruction book! It gives all these answers, how and why. The Holy Spirit is essential in anything of our lord, given freely by our lord.

99.9% of the normie voting public never heard of them. They saw their commercials but had no idea who was behind them.

    That changed Sunday night.

Now the useful idiots who made a deal with the DNC have been put in front of millions of TV sets.

    Total set-up.

Some or all of these clowns are going to be taken to task by regular people or Seth Rich’d by DNC operatives.

The narrative of course will be formulaic.

60 minutes did all but a 100% dox. On prime time tv.

Talk about being the loneliest people on earth. The leftists who funded them will immediately consider them liabilities after the election. For supposed “smart guys” they’re pretty dumb.

I searched through past articles and didn’t find this so this is a question to folks.

In 2015 it was reported that security clearance paperwork (SF86’s and resulting files) on 18 million people, mostly US citizens, was hacked from OPM. For each person this would have included many pages of personal information (medical, addresses, relatives, friends, financial information, drug use, criminal charges, lawsuits, organization memberships, etc).
I note that it was first broken by a NYT reporter, Schmidt, who was involved with pushing the Russia Collusion narrative and that Comey and Clapper were leading efforts “investigating” it.

Given what Sundance and others have discovered about the MO of these individuals (accuse and frame others of doing what you have done, cover it up with the “investigation”). Is anyone aware of any work looking into whether this “hacking” by the “chinese” has an substance or whether it may be the same cast of characters doing something nefarious?

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

A prayer for Justice Kavanaugh and Gen. Flynn:

    Prayer to St. Michael

    St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
    May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,
    by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
